I love the fact they did not antagonize her by turning her into an enemy with Donna. Or made her character less smart or amazing like others.
And have just the right amount of sass, combined with experience and rational thinking. Awesome character and acting.

Well, Donna was the one who built the list. She probably put Gretchen on there because, as she says in season 8, Gretchen is the only one with deeper contacts sin the industry. So basically, Donna admits that Gretchen is better at some things than her.

That first scene is a great callback to how he hired Mike… they all looked like they came out an assembly line and he went straight for the person who stood out on the spot.
The list was from Donna. She stacked the interview so Harvey would pick Gretchen.

The little smirk on Harvey’s face after Gretchen says: “well, if you have to ask…” haha. I always rewind it and replay it several times. Loved how fierce, yet gentle and proper she could be.
He did get it, though. Anyone who feel they have to tell people they have certain qualities usually don't have them, or they would show without needing to tell...

Gretchen is so loyal and supportive towards Harvey in a strong maternal way. She is there for him without being an overbearing busybody.

One of the best scenes with Gretchen was when she, Jessica and Rachel meet at the executive kitchen/canteen and she says "this firm got a whole lot blacker" and Jessica and Gretchen secretly bump their fists😂.

I love when Gretchen secretly says to Harvey , about her panic attacks, and how she doesn't have them anymore, was a sweet moment. She was quietly giving reassurance to Harvey, that he can overcome them, sweet moment.
Gretchen was always my favorite secretary on the show. Knew her role and didn’t overstep like Donna or Rachel did.
What about amy
Rachel was a paralegal-not a secretary. She had her own office and later became an associate.
Then Harvey would've never developed and turn into the man he became. He needed Donna and most secretaries tend to overstep from time to time lol

The chemistry among all the actors on this show was incredible, and Aloma Wright just fit right in when they added her. I agree with so many other posters: wish her character had been part of the show from the beginning.

I feel like Gretchen was kind of a waste with Louis. Didn’t get enough screen time and dialogue. Definitely could’ve improved the show with more interactions with her. Nonetheless Gretchen is 10/10
Aloma Wright was awesome in this show. Just loved how she put both Harvey and Louis in their place several times when a scene called for it. A true 'lightning-rod' in every sense of the word. Excellent casting call.
Laverne and Gretchen are what this world needs.
Acting wise and substance wise, this actress was the best in the entire cast. Effortless presence without being arrogant or abrasive or angry.

Gretchen was seriously one of the best characters in this show. Almost every one of her scenes left me smiling.

Sometimes we are so afraid of losing something or someone because we feel as though it is the best we can have, but what we don't know is that once we let go of what we want to, there is so much better waiting for us.

Gretchen was great for Louis. Its true that she didn't get enough screentime to do her justice but Louis deserved a secretary that rivals Harvey's.
This scene was so cute. I fell in love with Gretchen after this episode.

I'm not sure it wasn't more along the lines of thinking that a secretary even remotely like Donna would make him feel adulterous somehow. I think the first secretary he interviewed made him nauseated more than allured because of that. He wasn't afraid he'd catch feelings, he was disgusted and resistant at the prospect of trying to move on from Donna.

He picked someone he knew could do the job because he was impatient, uninterested and wanted to move on (it parallel’s his associate interview when he hired Mike despite not having a law degree just because he didn’t want to continue with the interviews). People assume it’s because he didn’t wan5 to hire someone pretty because that’s what Gretchen said, but this show often has characters state things that are untrue.
Gretchen blows Donna out of the water
The moment they introduced Gretchen I was floored by her sassy and confident personality. She stands out on her own in the firm against these strong willed lawyers. I love her! She always has something hilarious to say.

Such a GREAT character! Suits has real rhythmic dialogue and Gretchen's timing was unmatched! This was one of my all-time favorite scenes.

Abigail came off as incredibly arrogant and cocky and the fact she tried flirting with him at the end tells you all you need to know about her. I'm glad he went with Gretchen.

That’s not what bothered him, Mike & Donna had the same qualities. Harvey admires ppl who are confident of their skillset, the only reason he didn’t choose Abigail is cause he might end up sleeping w her & it’ll be like the Donna situation all over again
I don't want to take anything away from Donna's character or the actress, but it seemed like an impossible character to replace and not only did they do it, they didn't absolutely fantastic job of it. Gretchen was fantastically written and acted.
2:05 is one of the most sassy n savage scenes in entire Suits. Never gets old or not funny. 🤣

@@Lampalot It's easy to like Donna more because she was one of original cast members, but when you think about it she caused a few problems because of her ego. And there were times were she was irritating because she had an inflated sense of her own importance.
Gretchen on the other hand consistently delivered. There wasn't a single time where it was unpleasant to see her on screen. She's not much of a looker, sure. But it feels shallow to even make that a criterion for comparison.
Overall, Gretchen is the kind of person you want in your corner. Donna is the kind of person you want in a commercial.

Well but there is a effect ( which name I unfortunate forgot , but it is named in How I Met your Mother) that , non or less how unattractive your secretary may seem to you , at one point you will start find her more and more attractive.

It’s actually because it’s all business you will her more attractive. Her job is literally to make life easier for you. If she does it very well, the attraction will be there.
But she is old, quite old compared to Harvey. I think the nature of attraction can't be romantic in such case
Mike and the entire firm should be thankful to Gretchen. Mike wouldn't have gone to jail and turn out to be a real lawyer if she didn't publish the article in the first place.

I LOVE Gretchen! She was like "grandma" of Suits. She even put Donna in check more than a few times.
She's the best. I think her and Dona are comparable. They are beyond competent and have an attitude that challenges and makes Harvey better at his job. They aren't meek and are quick thinkers . I'd say tho, since Gretchen and Harvey did not smash, their working relationship seems much less charged. As a secretary, Harvey is better off with Gretchen.

Abigails whole thing about how great she was came across as arrogant and trying to convince herself it was true while Gretchen's was more "Im offended you even asked".

I love this woman and her character. She played her role super well. It didn't matter who she was working for. She was on her game
Its disappointing they barely used her. But instead kept shifting the focus on Donna and the rest. I got annoyed after awhile that Gretchen was so rarely shown or included on whats going on. Its like they needed a colored person to be in the show after Jessica left so the threw her in just to tick a box. After Jessica left take Gretchen out all you see is white. Seriously they put her up as someone that can kick Donna off her super secretary position but dont show her at all. Seriously wasted potential.
