Dang, I had one of these, it was a great little laptop. Used it alot for work. It was ahead of its time. Hard to believe how far we've come in 20 years.
That's awesome! The Snow G3 is a classic and having one in immaculate condition is quite a treasure. It's great to hear that you love it. These vintage machines have a unique charm that modern devices often lack. Keep enjoying your Snow G3! 😊💻✨
I find this video oddly satisfying and entertaining, despite not knowing anything about electronics. Watching these restoration videos gives me a sense of calm and relaxation, which I always appreciate before bed. I am grateful to the creator of this content and hope it continues.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the restoration. Bringing old devices back to life is always a rewarding experience. Your support and kind words mean a lot! 😊💻✨
CDs possessed a unique charm when one placed the game disc into the CD reader and heard the sound of it spinning. It was a distinct pleasure. Unfortunately, modern laptops no longer include CD reader.
Why, unfortunately? As a last resort, you can buy an old laptop and insert CDs into it. Just what should be on them that cannot be downloaded from the Internet?
Ah, the nostalgia of hearing that CD spin up! There's something undeniably satisfying about the tactile experience of using physical media. The sound of the disc spinning, the anticipation as the game loads-it's a sensory experience that digital downloads just can't replicate. While modern laptops have moved away from CD readers in favor of slimmer designs and cloud storage, the charm of physical media still holds a special place in many hearts. For those who miss it, external CD/DVD drives are always an option to relive those moments. 😊🎮📀
You make a valid point! While it's true that many things can be downloaded from the internet nowadays, there are still some unique aspects of physical CDs that people cherish: Nostalgia: For many, CDs hold sentimental value and bring back memories of a different era in gaming and media consumption. Collectibility: Physical copies of games, especially older or rare ones, can be valuable collectibles. Special Editions: Some CDs come with special editions that include exclusive content, artwork, or other physical goodies that can't be downloaded. Offline Access: Having a physical copy means you don't need an internet connection to access the content. While buying an old laptop with a CD drive is a practical solution, the charm of using original hardware and media can be a unique experience for many enthusiasts. 😊📀
I used these back in 2005 and 2007 they were so cool! And I had the eMac. I wanna get the old MacBook or something again. Last Apple TV streamer is what I used.
I would use paste on the CPU and thermal putty on the chipset and video card chips. Also instead of superglue on metal parts use something like JB-Weld.
Nice restoration! Im allways restoring those old laptops Adding max amout supported RAM and Fastest SSD drive available at market. Laptop speed is improoved a LOT 😏✌
That's awesome! Upgrading old laptops with maximum RAM and the fastest SSDs can indeed breathe new life into them. It's amazing how much of a performance boost you can get with those upgrades. Keep up the great work! 😏✌

Ah, the good old days of Toast and iTunes! There was something special about those times when you could burn your own CDs and manage your music library with ease. It's amazing how technology has evolved, but those nostalgic moments always hold a special place in our hearts.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that you find the video satisfying. Your support means a lot and motivates us to keep creating great content. Stay tuned for more! ❤😊
The sponge is called magic eraser, the white stuff is foam cleaner (maybe blow off), and the shining plastic is plastic polisher. I don't know what specific brands they use though.
These were an absolute pain in the butt to take apart. Definitely not for a newbie at all. Sooooooo many different types of screws for everything. Great job on the restoration. I would have maybe found a faster hard drive than the 4200 RPM drive that came in it.
I remember using those laptops back in elementary school, playing games on like phonix 2b super star, reading comprehension, and also using it for school work as well.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the restoration. Bringing old devices back to life is always a rewarding experience. Your support and kind words mean a lot! 😊💻✨
Doing all that work and not replacing the capacitors is a huge error. Im also surprised the magic eraser didn't destroy the letters on the keyboard keys. The CD drive sounded like it needed a little love. The G4 came out beautifully otherwise....
Removing the thermal pads and applying thermal paste is a wrong process, it will not make good contact with the cooler, even though those pads are 25 years old, the effect is the same as the first day.
Thank you for your input! It's always valuable to hear different perspectives on restoration techniques. For older devices, Some enthusiasts prefer to replace old thermal pads with new ones to ensure optimal performance, while others might opt for thermal paste. Both methods have their merits.
I didn't know about those pads, maybe some apple related tech. But paste would also offer a cooling technique, but maybe not as the original design was intended for.
How nostalgic... I would definitely trade my Macbook M3 Pro for this one if I could go back to 2003 🥺 PD: Plus I could still play my music CDs without any issues
Very useful video! Thank you for sharing! Could you please provide the name or type of the sponge you use, the one you cut with a knife? Also, what's the name or brand of the foam you use to clean the keyboard? Thank you so much. I have one of these and would love to restore it to its original look.
I still have my iBook G4. It hasn't yellowed at all, and still works perfectly (though it's very slow). The most annoying thing about it is the extremely narrow viewing angle of the TFT screen.
At the time it was the next gen wifi networking from Apple. It was what they called 802.11g which supported up to 54Mbps versus the original AirPort...aka 802.11b which only supported around 11Mbps WiFi networking. Basically AirPort just a marketing term Apple used for its wireless technology.
Detachable laptop keyboards certainly had their charm! They offered flexibility and convenience, especially for those who liked to switch between a laptop and a tablet mode. While modern laptops have moved towards more integrated designs, the nostalgia for those detachable keyboards remains.
Screwpocalypse. I opened up my 12" PowerBook G4 to replace the HDD with an SSD and re-paste the CPU, never again, such a pain in the ass, and I have 5 screws left over even though I followed a tutorial, WTF?

You know you feel old when you see "2003" as "Vintage." I still have my Mac Classic from 1984.
I was thinking the same thing! This was my FIRST mac! Vintage!
You mean 1990.
It is not vintage. Vintage would be 1995. Today
Does it still spin up?
@@dannil9878 nah, 1995 it’s just old
1975 is vintage

Also Iagree absolutely
This was my first laptop 💻 in 2005. This video made me reminisce about the past when everything seemed better.❤
Impressive work! It's amazing to see how you've managed to breathe new life into such an old MacBook. Great skills and attention to detail!

What is the white sponge and spray you use to clean the yellow plastic? And also the product to make the plastic glossy again
The white sponge is likely a Magic Eraser (melamine). They are pretty amazing for cleaning.
The sponge is called magic eraser, the white stuff is foam cleaner (maybe blow off), and the shining plastic is plastic polisher. I don't know what specific brands they use though.
I worked on one of those at my one of my first jobs, thanks for making me feel old. 😅

High capacity DDR1 Ram sticks are not that easy to find anymore so you did right upgrading that little Apple machine now
Removing the thermal pads and applying thermal paste is a wrong process, it will not make good contact with the cooler, even though those pads are 25 years old, the effect is the same as the first day.

I noticed that also, and agree with watercraft. The ppc g4 cpu runs pretty hot. The pads are there for a reason...
You are 100% correct. Apple would not of used thermal pads if paste was better. Hopefully he will refit the pads after reading this.
The layer of thermal paste is too thick, thermal pads were there for a reason. I agree.
I didn't know about those pads, maybe some apple related tech. But paste would also offer a cooling technique, but maybe not as the original design was intended for.

On a 2003 laptop, running a 2001 game on average settings is of course sad, that is, even then the laptop was weak.
