technically he could just boil it to death. they used to do that back in the 1300s with meat that was rotting so it was edible. but the pace of this is much faster anyway. no one would starve to death in a few days. plus, meat in a cool place would take longer to decay. if kept in newspaper at a cool temp it should last a weak without preservation.

There's nothing more wholesome than Matpat talking about Ollie, and there's nothing more terrifying than a potato calmly breaking down the science of starvation.
I can't help but think it's weird how you alone are different from all of them. The way they didn't give you any tasks at the begining, the way they don't seem to expect you to do anything other than cook. It's weird
The atmosphere this game creates is bone chilling. When you have your first dream you aren’t expecting the “spoopy jumpscare” but once you get a tolerance for it those just stop and everything gets a bit to real. That line about the “meat going bad” is so good
One thing that I don’t know if anyone noticed but the squirrel that was on Anatoly’s shoulder is gone in this episode. Maybe they DID eat the squirrel. Or this just shows how less lighthearted this game is getting.
I choose to believe that the little guy realized that an I'll wind was coming and ran into the woods. He has a squirrel wife and squirrel babies and is very happy.
It's probably the MC's cabin, and the chompettes are previous victims of ours whose spirits haven't moved on. Probably also that we regularly lure and eat people in this same cabin. That's just my guess
Potato also asked the mc why they were keeping those humans around. And that potato and the ""others"" (whoever potato was with when they were alive) didn't even get the same treatment as the current humans... Potato seems strangely salty about that XD
I can handle any horrific game as long as he's the one presenting it- every other channel just seems to keep it terrifying and dark, somehow I'm not as scared even though it's definitely scary, somehow it feels safe ♡ bless this online theorist family home
20:24 I like how karin looks impatient sorta like "we want more food" Anatoly looks ashamed because deep down he knows what he ate but still wants more And Gregor is just simply sad, he knows what the meat was and he knows that Mariah is gone but he's accepted that this is the way it has to be
I like how, dispite the possible supernatural elements, what's truly terrifying are all real world things. Starvation. Isolation. Mental deterioration. The fight to survive. Can't wait to see where this goes!
Fun Fact: It's implied Gregor had feelings for Anatoly. If you make a certain choice, and you do something on New Game+, you learn more about him. And on the route you're going, you'll learn more about Karin too.
I think the character is a cannibalistic witch (perhaps Baba Yaga) and she had been defeated by people she tried to eat too many times (as told in her nightmares). Hence, she chose the long wait tactic of starving her companions instead of using force.
That ending of "I'm gonna go eat some meat. Eat well." threw me off so much. He said it without his usual happy tone that he ends every video with... I'm glad I ate before this, because I'm not sure I'd want to eat after this.
"I'm gonna go cook up some meat" being the first thing you think of come lunchtime is cognitive dissonance at work. It's the same reason people are ok with eating "livestock" animals but think eating dogs or cats is revolting.
Isn't it interesting that the chompettes and the main cast share name colors? Raspberry and Karin are red, lettuce and Gregor are green, onion and Anatoly are blue, and bread and Mariah are brown. It could be a red herring, but it is still an interesting correlation nonetheless
I'm starting to suspect that this is all in the MC's head, replaying the same scenario, and the chompettes are versions of Karen, Gregory, etc mixed with MC's conscious speaking to him.
Im laughing so hard because the protagonist saw Anatoly crying about his crush being gone and told them a depressing story about a farmer and a cow having poor surviving skills and when they saw it (obviously) didn't help the situation they just left
Sometimes I forget matpat was a theatre kid, and when he voices characters I completely forget it’s his voice and imaging the game just fully voice acted 😂
Matt, the vegatables are the ones giving you the complicated food recipes, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they're the actual reason for the food being so poorly rationed
I've played Dark Souls, I've played Bloodbore and I'm now playing Elden Ring. None of the literal piles of corpses in those games, nor any others I can think of have made me feel as disconcerted and uneasy as this game has.
I have no clue if you've thought or talked about this since I'm typing this during the video, but obviously we killed Mariah. Based on how Gregor asked, "have you heard her cries too," and how we can't go into the basement, I'm guessing that Mariah might have been in the basement tied/chained up with us potentially slowly cutting off her body parts. That's also why we say that we have the meat "preserved so that we can ration it better." However, the main flaw would be how we ended up getting her in the basement if she was in the flood water.
I don't know if anyone's noticed this yet and I don't know if it has always been there, but on the title screen of the game, above the cauldron it says "голод" which is "hunger" in Russian and Ukrainian, which makes a bit of sense with the references to Ukraine, Eastern European food, and the Eastern European names.
You're 100% right, the willingness and barely even reluctant enthusiasm they have for what's happening is so much more sinister and worse than what we expected to happen. And don't even get me started on the faces.
I love this series so freaking much. It’s up there with Doki Doki. Not quite FNAF or kindergarten S-Tier level. But solid A-Tier. Also MatPat. Please. You and Steph take some time off. You guys are so busy and do so much for us. Don’t worry about prepping videos. Just relax.
Fun Fact: There is no “law” in the US about Cannibalism however how you got said meat is what will get you in trouble. Thanks Couch Q for this wonderful information in high school
@Ky Atonic I mean, there was one guy who had to have his leg amputated, but was able to keep it and he cooked it into tacos and ate them with his friends (they all knew). So... I guess if it's your own flesh. A law *specifically* forbidding caniballism would be a bit redundant, as the act would pretty much ALWAYS involve desecration of a corpse.
@@kyatonic1 Ya actually. You can buy like amputated parts (legally of course) that are meant to be used for practicing surgery and such. It's pricy but I mean if you're rich, weird, and curious you could actually be a legal cannibal.
I'm pretty sure that's the implication, later he dreams of "working" with "another one" right after Anatomy left, and mentions the cracked glasses. Next thing you see is having more meat
Pretty sure it isn't. Especially with how Karin suddenly KNOWS what you're doing, implying that she might have been the one who sneaked up on you in the last dream. Also, as Ghirox says, the cracked glasses seems like a dead giveaway.
@@IAmVianca I believe all of the dream sequences are connected to the creature called Likho. The first one and the BlackSmith one can be linked to the Likho easily, the other two I'm not so sure

Yeah… I started watching playthroughs after the first video, and it only gets darker from here, and even though it’s horrifying, it’s just too good not to watch
Does each cabin member have a corresponding chompette sort of watching over them ? Cabbage - mc Raspberry - Karin Bread - Gregor Potato - Mariah Onion - Anatoly They also use the same name tag colours.
Haha, same! I still am so curious about that recipe (and don't want to see other people's playthrough) considering what Potato said before handing it over.
at 23:37 when MC looks out of the window there's definitely movement next to the tree on the left when the whispers start. Almost as if something is slinking back behind the tree.
Did anyone else notice that Anatoly's squirrel randomly disappeared?? I'm not even sure when it went missing but maybe thats one of the sources for the mystery meat
Holy crap those faces in the one conversation (you know what I'm talking about, I'm not timestamping it) actually creeped me out farther than any game he's covered has
Don't know if anyone noticed this but at 23:40, if you look very carefully at the closest tree on the left, you can very faintly see Mariah's face staring at you before fading away
Interesting comments about things you missed, and interesting Deer Dream Studios is here as well, saying there’s books or something you have to read to get all the lore. I didn’t think it would be lore outside of the game, probably should have guessed that
Honestly before I watch any other Cooking companions playthrough, I have to watch this one, if I don't I'll know the Endings and I'll complain bout Matpat missing an ending
I love this series since I saw Manlybadasshero's full playthrough. Glad you like it so much and I hope we'll see a video soon if u finished it. This is the most unsettling horror game out there for me tbh.
I suspected it from the beginning and now I'm really sure: the chompettes must be the characters in some way. Or parallels to them. Onion was very interested in protecting Anatoly, bread is very interested in protecting gregor. To stop history repeating itself I think
When I watched a playthrough of this game the first time, i literally could not sleep the night I watched it. I couldn't keep my eyes closed for more than a few minutes. Actually, I even messaged the creator on twitter to applaud them for making such a scary game, and scold them for keeping me up all night. They said that they were just as terrified of games before this one and that the best way to get through your fears is to make a scarier video game yourself so that you get the chance to scare the heck out of others ^^
Well. That was concerning. And depressing. And horrifying. I think it's worse than DDLC in basically all ways... 11/10, very fun game, compelling story, cannibalism.
I couldn’t help watching an entire play through after the first episode. I really enjoy the commentary that goes along with watching GT Live with Matt and mirror Matt!
I'm sorry but I haven't seen anything, even with low speed and multiple tries, care to give us a timestamp and indications ? At this point I'm wondering if I should start thinking about glasses
chompettes are very closely related to individual members of the group. raspberry to mariah, onion to anatoly, bread to gregor and maybe cabbage to karin. you are potato.
42:00, OMG THIS INTERACTION WITH POTATO!! From not being able to flip the pages anymore, to not getting the same treatment as the leniency the main character is having towards their bunch.
Also there was a comment about eating Mice...
I choose to believe that the little guy realized that an I'll wind was coming and ran into the woods. He has a squirrel wife and squirrel babies and is very happy.
I noticed
It's probably the MC's cabin, and the chompettes are previous victims of ours whose spirits haven't moved on. Probably also that we regularly lure and eat people in this same cabin. That's just my guess
Potato also asked the mc why they were keeping those humans around.
And that potato and the ""others"" (whoever potato was with when they were alive) didn't even get the same treatment as the current humans...
Potato seems strangely salty about that XD
P.s. pun not intended at the end oops lol
Matpat is my horror game comfort blanket. This game is so wonderfully unnerving. Please do all of the endings!
Yes!! Please do all the options and all the endings!
I needed my comfort blanket too with this game, more often than I needed!
@@fragrantbloom knowing him he probably will (probably)
I can handle any horrific game as long as he's the one presenting it- every other channel just seems to keep it terrifying and dark, somehow I'm not as scared even though it's definitely scary, somehow it feels safe ♡ bless this online theorist family home
20:24 I like how karin looks impatient sorta like "we want more food"
Anatoly looks ashamed because deep down he knows what he ate but still wants more
And Gregor is just simply sad, he knows what the meat was and he knows that Mariah is gone but he's accepted that this is the way it has to be
I like how, dispite the possible supernatural elements, what's truly terrifying are all real world things. Starvation. Isolation. Mental deterioration. The fight to survive.
Can't wait to see where this goes!
The "crunch" sound could be caused by the spear going straight through the eye, poking some bone in the process.
You do also have some hard stuff in your eyes, so it could be that instead
It said the poker went through the skull itself though, so the skull crunched
Was very surprised to hear Mariah singing on 33:00 in russian! She says: "Better sleep with two eyes open".
Oh, you have to translate all the other whispers! I can’t even tell if they’re English or not 🥲😭
Yeah, there are more. On 49:50 she says "not found yet"
There something on 23:41 but its hard to hear because of Matpat
@@orliag218 found another walkthrough with no commentary, there I figured out that she says "They will never forgive you" at 23:41

"Let's save the recipe for the end!" *Doesn't look at the recipe*
Fun Fact: It's implied Gregor had feelings for Anatoly. If you make a certain choice, and you do something on New Game+, you learn more about him. And on the route you're going, you'll learn more about Karin too.
Fr gregor sounds so in love with anatoly
Wasn't there one part where they were out outside for something and when they came back in it said that Gregor was blushing?
He was just embarrassed at being scared of a marmot
@@Wizardcat0901 I mean he did say he had something to tell him so its a possibility
@@LevizzzDOTcom I think it's not when they're out, but it's when they're doing stuff with the maps in the room?
I think the character is a cannibalistic witch (perhaps Baba Yaga) and she had been defeated by people she tried to eat too many times (as told in her nightmares). Hence, she chose the long wait tactic of starving her companions instead of using force.
Let's go!!! Another episode of Cooking Companions! Time for the spoopies!
That’s true; however, so believe that these are five previous victims, considering that there were “five in one night”
I'm starting to suspect that this is all in the MC's head, replaying the same scenario, and the chompettes are versions of Karen, Gregory, etc mixed with MC's conscious speaking to him.
@@neolithiumproduction that’s a good theory! where would potato fit into all this tho
@@lolkayleen2757 I think Potato is the MC's version of himself.
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FACE IN THE CABINET AT 20:08
Im laughing so hard because the protagonist saw Anatoly crying about his crush being gone and told them a depressing story about a farmer and a cow having poor surviving skills and when they saw it (obviously) didn't help the situation they just left
So glad to see mat continue this series brings me back to the days of Doki Doki
RESPECTFULLY
The cool thing is, even though it seems to have the style of Doki Doki, it still makes it unexpected
19:30 "You slowly opened the door"
I had a moment of panic right then and there
Same I was thinking of sayori from that 💀
Sayori moment
The PTSD was astronomically strong right there
Sometimes I forget matpat was a theatre kid, and when he voices characters I completely forget it’s his voice and imaging the game just fully voice acted 😂
Same here!
Mats save slot managment has to be the most disturbing thing about this game
Ever since their faces started becoming all creepy I have kept my eyes LOCKED on the text.
I've been down in the comments or putting the video in mini player 😅
SAME LMFAOO💀
If you keep watching it over and over again, it gets less scary.
@@thenotoriouspizzajon2677 yeah obviously that's kind of how it works
This game scares me so much-
Matt, the vegatables are the ones giving you the complicated food recipes, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they're the actual reason for the food being so poorly rationed
The recipes they give you aren't the ones you cook in the game
I've played Dark Souls, I've played Bloodbore and I'm now playing Elden Ring. None of the literal piles of corpses in those games, nor any others I can think of have made me feel as disconcerted and uneasy as this game has.
IKR SAME
20:06 You feel someone's piercing gaze in the kitchen, judging you for your sins.
That's also why we say that we have the meat "preserved so that we can ration it better." However, the main flaw would be how we ended up getting her in the basement if she was in the flood water.
i wonder if the basement is the same as in the demo
I've seen multiple playthroughs, and I still think there are some things left to figure out. I hope they manage a theory video.
Karin did point out that "They always come back". The MC most likely meets them at the door when she (and Anatoly) swim back in the night.
When she leaves it says you dream of desecrating a corpse. Her body probably washed up somewhere near the house.
Another problem is actually getting a piece of "meat" that big of a person the size of Mariah or anatoly. Think about that one.
Whispers in game (except title screen) are in russian as well. For example Держи глаза открытыми (derji glaza otkritymi) -> keep your eyes open
*TGT:* “Iʼm so hungry that iʼm seeing things...”
*Me:* _relates too much to TGT while starving at 3AM._
@Don't read profile photo Thanks man almost did that
@Don't read profile photo good thing you stopped me. I might’ve read that. your doing good
You're 100% right, the willingness and barely even reluctant enthusiasm they have for what's happening is so much more sinister and worse than what we expected to happen.
Wait then is there a legal way to acquire it is that a thing cause that’s nuts
@Ky Atonic
I mean, there was one guy who had to have his leg amputated, but was able to keep it and he cooked it into tacos and ate them with his friends (they all knew). So... I guess if it's your own flesh. A law *specifically* forbidding caniballism would be a bit redundant, as the act would pretty much ALWAYS involve desecration of a corpse.
@@eddieravenwood true but it’s an interesting fact to know
Yep laws fun.
@@kyatonic1 Ya actually. You can buy like amputated parts (legally of course) that are meant to be used for practicing surgery and such. It's pricy but I mean if you're rich, weird, and curious you could actually be a legal cannibal.
“You dream of desecrating a corpse” what if it wasn’t a dream
I'm pretty sure that's the implication, later he dreams of "working" with "another one" right after Anatomy left, and mentions the cracked glasses. Next thing you see is having more meat
Pretty sure it isn't. Especially with how Karin suddenly KNOWS what you're doing, implying that she might have been the one who sneaked up on you in the last dream. Also, as Ghirox says, the cracked glasses seems like a dead giveaway.
That's what I'm thinking too, honestly
@@leona067 It kinda sheds a whole new light on all the dream sequences we've seen, doesn't it?
@@IAmVianca I believe all of the dream sequences are connected to the creature called Likho. The first one and the BlackSmith one can be linked to the Likho easily, the other two I'm not so sure

The way that the companions start getting weird after eating the meat reminds me of the Wendigo myth
Gtlive has helped me be less frightened of scary games, but man it is really being tested today.
You know Matthew considers us his children when he gives us a full performance of Oliver’s bedtime story.
I am like three years younger than Matt and I still see him as a father figure
Did anyone else see something in the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen at 20:10? It is behind the text Matpat is reading. It kind of looks like a face maybe? It vanishes before the next bit of dialog. Spooooky!
I saw the same thing when i played it.
My pants have never been more shatted.
"OHHH cooking COMPANIONS. like we're cooking the companions. it's a play on words. i get it now. "
Love that chapter name.
The spooky preview, Mirror Matt's great impression, and MatPat doing all sorts of voices in the Witty Banter... this is gonna be a good episode.
from what I gather, the tale about the fox is folk tale from hungary iirc. The fox kept swindling people and ended up getting killed pretty similarly to the story in this game.
The fact i convinced myself I eat dinner watching gtlive when actually i am always finished before witty banter ends and then i'm just loitering through the gameplay segment of the video
Just a random thing you need to know, yes the meat is Mariah, the "Leaving the Cabin" is basically one of the companions giving up themselves for meat

Yesssssss

The meat clearly came from Anatolys squirrel, idk what everyone is talking about 😀
Yeah. Totally the weird squirrel thing.

Yeah its tooootally the squirrel. Definitely not in complete denial¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some of it did.

yes very big slab of meat from a small squirrel!
Did anyone else notice that Anatoly's squirrel randomly disappeared?? I'm not even sure when it went missing but maybe thats one of the sources for the mystery meat

Interesting that Anatoly doesn't have his squirrel friend this episode. I wonder what happened to the little guy.
Little squirrel friend is okay, squirrel friend ran away when things got bad. He's living safe in the Woods. He's fine.
