I am so glad I found out about this series!!! I am a Romany from America, and it saddens me to see how our people are treated. Especially how our children are treated. But I love this show and I am so fascinated how it betrays a lot of what our lives are about. Thanks to the writers and the people who made this show. 💝
I feel really sorry for kizzy when she was having that dream when she was sleeping and when she shouted “don’t let them take Jo” and when the admiral said “no no never.”
I was 14 when I saw this on BBC television 1976 I recall the other children at school who also saw it and they like myself were on the the little gypsy girls side as we were country children we often encountered real Romany gypsies and the gypsy child as we were children at that time we were curious and venterd up to were the gypsies had made Thier camp and we soon made friends with the gypsy children in fact no one could keep us away from them as soon as school was out we were straight up we often brought them gifts of clothes and toys and books and the gypsy children were egar to learn to read and mostly they favoured books with pictures and some of the children could already read they said when they had stopped off in other villages and small towns the local young girls would play school and that's how they learnt the wagons were beautiful like a fairy tale quality sometimes we were aloud to sleep overnight and it was beautiful on a rainy windy night to here the rain pattering off the wagon roof and in turn some of the gypsy children stayed with us over night and when this series was shown they watched it with us they loved said it showed them in a good light and also how cruel regular children could be but they said most of the places theyd stayed at very rarely they encounterd nasty children we felt really privileged to have real romany. Children as our friends and in our house but it was heartbreaking when they moved on but what a beautiful memory and in the hot long summer of 1976
I don't remember this story?? But i was a fan of other Rumer Godden books as a kid, I'm American n always thought it an unusual name 📚 my favorites were about the Doll's House n "the Rocking Horse Secret" 🎠

I remember this from my childhood. A trip down memory lane courtesy of RUclips! And ritchbitchcazz of course!
I adored this show as a kid and have read the book several times.
One of the great serials ever made.

This is an early version of three men and a little lady lol
Brilliant series xx
Pure class! start to finish
My grandmother also worked as a nurse and then a midwife at Cameron Hospital which was in hartlepool in the north of England.
Good tv series👻
I'm so tickled at the reversal of roles in the women thinking men couldn't care for a sick child. #🌡
This was transmitted four days after my uncle named Jeremy’s birth and my mum was three.

I don’t think she would have seen this though at the time.
I wonder how long this series runs?
My goodness, the people in that village are nosey! #👃🏿
And utterly spiteful to boot.
Well said.
Most are horrible too.
I'm intrigued as to where you got these from with the countdown and the timestamps did you rescue them from being destroyed at the BBC? 😊
No I didn't rescue them x
That mrs cuthbert and miss blunt (sometimes) do need to watch themselves
And everyone should keep their noses under control so nosey.
