I think that is a pretty solid result for less than $100, that was a great deal for a 6th gen i5, not the greatest CPU, but for older games it is great. As for the video card, I keep my eye on cheap 1050tis and 1650 variants, the 1050s I pick up from time to time at $25-30, 1650s when I can get them for $35-50, once in a while I see a 1060 6GB for about $50, but that is rare. The RX580 8GB around here can be found for $40-45, but in your situation it requires too much power. Honestly, on ultra budget builds the 1050 is hard to beat, unless you get lucky and score a 1650 at about $40, which is something you find every day. Honestly, on a short timeline, you did pretty damn good for the price, I am not coitizing, just sharing what my experience is, and I have to mention I am patient, I will take six weeks to put together a low end build, and months on a higher end.
If the 6th gen costs more than the 4th gen, you're wasting money because there is very little performance difference across 4th, 5th and 6th gen. In fact, even 7th gen isn't a huge improvement. 8th gen is where you start getting to the point it is worth paying more than Haswell prices. Also, non-HT quad cores just don't cut it in 2025 for esports.
@@rrq Marketplace, I meant to say you don't find them every day for $40, it takes patience and some negotiation, it also helps if the seller is impatient. Right now I would barely take a 1650 for free, I have four on hand, and haven't put together any low end systems for a while. Right now there are no video cards in my area that are reasonable, but a just before Christmas I got a 3060ti for $125, and a 1660 Super for $60. In November I picked up two RX 6800s for $175 and $190. I almost passed on the 6800s because around here systems with AMD graphics cards are hard to sell, RX 6600 cards typically sell for $100-120, RX 5700 XT or non XT go for $75-100, but you have to wait for the seller to get thirsty.
These cheap builds are ideal for someone who has a console, but wants to dip their toes into PC gaming to see what it is all about without breaking the bank. Would love to see how performant these systems would be with emulation.
It's a great build for that price. The office PC's that become available seem to get better and better, I can't wait until we can get gen 1 Ryzen stuff. Same for the cards, a 1050ti that doesn't need additional power would be perfect for that build

Thank you for the video. It's a very helpful comparison for me because I build PC systems to make money and of course as a hobby. I've been lucky enough to get over 70+ Lenovo SFF i5 4th gen to 6th gen over the last year or two for free. All with 4-8GB of RAM. Tossed in 240-512GB SSDs for under $30 each time and a cheap graphics card. Sometimes, bumping up to an i7 equivalent Xeon. I've sold so many locally and people are super happy to get a budget PC for $80-140, often times with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I absolutely love seeing videos like this. There are so many systems out there that still have tons of potential with just a little bit of love, even if you have to buy all the components. It's very satisfying to get one of these gaming.
Microsoft has just straight up dropped the TPM 2.0 requirement for 11. But you still need AVX2 support. There is no work around for that. Haswell or newer for intel and Excavator or newer for AMD. A non-HT quad core really doesn't cut it these days and is a great way to make sure your PC stutters a lot, especially when you aren't setting framerate caps, which is necessary to achieve the smooth gameplay you said you wanted.
I think for super budget build 4th gen(haswell) is better. You buy the cheapest prebuild(celeron,i3) and slap a xeon E3-1240v3/E3-1270v3(which ever is cheaper~ 20usd or less). Better single core performance than i5-6500, 8 threads like an i7, also has AVX-2. DDR3 is dirt chip, 2X8GB 1600mhz sticks are ~15usd on aliexpress. For gpu i think GXT 1050 is hard to beat, almost 960 2GB performance but doesnt need external power. RX 6400 and 1650 even 1050ti are better of course if you can find em cheap. Liked the video ;)
cheap builds can be fun! I have the 950 in a boneyard build i use as a spare or for when i run the games room at the local con. Best part is the 950 had no fan and so i had to kinda graft one onto its cooler with pennies as spacers, and the only two wires were power and ground so it runs all of the time at one speed. Its paired with an i5-2500 and 16gb of DDR3 to back it up plus the obligatory 128gb SSD (Toshiba) and a 1tb 2.5" HDD (Seagate Barracuda) both in a 3D printed dual 2.5" to 3.5" bay adapter plus a removable hard drive bay, all in an old Japanese AOpen mini mATX case. Im getting away with running Space Marine 2 on Quality in 720p so its not a bad time. May use it at an HTPC eventually but yeah these cheap/salvage builds are damn fun :)
I made an i3-7100, 8GB ddr4 ram, 256GB SSD and GTX 1050 config for 25 euro. PC was a Fujitsu Esprimo D556/2/E85+ which I paid 40 euro from, but Windows update corrupted the BIOS, I reported that to the guy I bought it from and he told me to keep the PC and gave me my money back. I reflashed a new BIOS thru the mobo recovery mode.
Nice build! I managed to build something better using local deals and saving on shipping this way. My PC had an i7-2600, a GTX 1050Ti and a 500GB SSD. Only weak point was the 8 gigs of ram but since it only cost me 80€ i could have still upgraded to 16

Well, when it was released RX 460 was considered as a rough equivalent (slightly better) than GPU in original PS4. Thus, card is enough for 1080p gaming of PS4 ports. In some later games PS4 actually runs on 720p, so you could use Magpie/Blinue to upscale if the game does not have this option. In any case, games like Witcher 3 run at 1080p med with 30-40 FPS, so console experience. If you buy a used item you get taxed. If you sell that item the next day, the buyer gets taxed. If Buyer 2 sells that item a day later, Buyer 3 gets taxed. You see where I am going with this. How can the same item be taxed multiple times? It is a broken system. Yet, somehow each state says that it is out of money.
In the US, we are taxed on our income, charged a sales tax when we buy something with our already taxed income, and then taxed again on the property that we paid tax on during the sale that we bought using our taxed income
@@bustergundo516 there must be guides available online. It's been a long time since I've made install media in Windows. So I'm not the guy to ask. Although if that system can boot off USB I vaguely know how to do it. You need an image writing program called Rufus or UNetBootin. You'll need a flash drive too. If you're new to Linux Mint is a popular distro to start out with. You might want to spend some time running live sessions just to practice some. I think Mint's install image is also their live image too? I run native Linux so I don't have a whole lot of experience with sessions. I was a newbie once myself though so I know what that's like. Linux takes a bit of getting used to. Good luck!
It's remarkable you managed to nail this, but at this price... You just buy a ps4 or an Xbox one... This quality is just terrible... Even CS is pixelated. You literally ruining your first-time experience with any game you playing on that PC. If you really have to go very budget, 300-500 dollar is the bare minimum you should invest in a pc. The tax thing is always boggling to me. They tax you on almost everything. I am okay with shipping, but to tax you on a used item is really weird.
@@RobertFixit Really messed up system. No wonder everyone is struggling. Especially considering how much money goes on military.
In the US, we are taxed on our income, charged a sales tax when we buy something with our already taxed income, and then taxed again on the property that we paid tax on during the sale that we bought using our taxed income
That's the US for you. Tax tax tax!
Maybe you could help me with 11$ to get a cpu and complete my setup
Now install Linux on it and see what it can do.
I hear you guys say that a lot. I can't even install Linux on this Dell Inspiron 5558. Any idea how I can do it?
Good luck!
triple a gaming just isnt for people who dont want to spend 300+ $ on their pc, just get a ps4 pro if you have 100 bucks
here we go again with this pc more affordable & better than consoles stuff....... it never ends
got better for 130$
It's remarkable you managed to nail this, but at this price... You just buy a ps4 or an Xbox one... This quality is just terrible... Even CS is pixelated. You literally ruining your first-time experience with any game you playing on that PC. If you really have to go very budget, 300-500 dollar is the bare minimum you should invest in a pc. At very least you have to get an rx 580 for the task, with a Ryzen 3600.
It was just a fun challenge. Like I said in the video, I wouldn't suggest most people do this unless they know it would suit their needs and they really want to maintain a low budget.
You're no fun
literally nobody cares you can get better specs for $50 from an HP T740, get a $50 GPU and you're set
ah yes, a gaming pc to run solataire. and quake. and maybe half life...
Valorant, GTA5, Fortnite, ForzaHorizon 4/5, CS2, WorldOfTanks etc, runs fine.
