About a year ago, when I found out I needed braces, I started watching braces videos and I found this one to be the best. Then I stopped because I kind of forgot about them but I had my impressions taken today and my orthodontist said I'm getting them on 12th December so now I'm panicking all over again and so I'm watching all these videos again and yours is still the best! Hey it's me again. 17 months later and I'm getting my torture contraptions off in two weeks!! I am so happy with how straight my teeth are now. Even with them still on, I can see the massive difference in my mouth. I live in England and the orthodontists I go to doesn't offer colours so I just had to live with silver but that was okay... I had to wear bands too. I had one of the loosest type (called Zebra) and I had to wear them all the time for about four months and I followed your advice about wearing them religiously. They really did help!! I have a friend who had to wear bands too but she really couldn't get the hang of putting them in the right place (they used to randomly ping off and hit walls etc) and because of that, she's having to wear them for like six extra months... torture
Yeah, can do... I think this video covered most of it pretty well, but the main tips I have would probably be; 1. wear your bands (srsly, even though they look bad sometimes, and its a pain to have to keep taking them out when you eat, it does take a lot of time off your final 'sentence') 2. make sure to clean your teeth really well, get in between each bracket and really clean your gumline every time 3. don't be scared to smile. This was a big one for me because I was looking back through my old fb profile pictures a while back and realised that for every photo of me from the times I had braces, I had my mouth closed, apart from in one, and that one turned out to be the best photo. Unless you naturally smile with your mouth closed all the time, it can look forced and awkward and despite the braces, you'll look more natural and happy if you show off your teeth. 4. this is a big one! WEAR YOUR RETAINER. OR YOUR TEETH WILL MOVE. Also, once the braces are off, don't get sloppy on cleaning your teeth, because they still need love... Foodwise, I didn't stop eating anything in particular. I didn't bite into anything hard, like apples, but I didn't avoid popcorn or pizza crusts or anything... They say you're supposed to give up fizzy drinks but hell no, diet coke is my life so I didn't follow that rule. One final tip, take lots of photos of your teeth before, during (once a week for the first few months and then one a month) and after your treatment. I did and it's actually amazing to look at and see how much your teeth change. Wow, that was a lot more that I though I was going to write... Anyway, yeah, in all, don't stress, don't stop smiling and embrace the brace! xxx

Watched this video the night before I got braces on, and it really helped me. 5 years later, tonight’s the last night I’ll have braces. Came back to this video again tonight and I get them taken off tomorrow!
This video was VERY helpful!! I'm 11 years old and i am getting braces on Monday October 17,2011. I looked up a lot of videos on people getting braces and talking about braces and this one was by far the best video about how they work and how to deal with them. I just got rubber bands yesterday and they hurt soo bad i couldn't sleep but im keeping these rubber bands on as much as possible, so I can get my braces off!! My teeth are pretty much already straight.
Mine are perfectly straight and the dentist made me wear bands cuz of a 20% over bite and the hurt very bad good luck with yours tho I got mine off already 😆
I have brown eyes and if had braces for 4 year. Personally I like black with a pastel green color, or I suggest bright colors. Hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck with your braces!
I have braces, honestly the best colors is just silver or black. They match with anything and they make your teeth look good :) I have silver right now
The over bite is gonna treatment is just having bands,(which hurt sometimes😁),and if ur teeth have gaps then you'll be getting a (chain) which hurts even worse so good luck hopes yours goes well !! But it only hurts for a few days don't worry 😊
Does it pull the jaw and teeth backwards? i know that braces damage faces, especially if you had extractions by pulling the teeth backwards on the free spots of the missing tooth, reducing the volume and making the face flatter? by the way didnt had any tooth extraction but i am aware of the brace elastic thingy does it harm your face in anyway?
Not only wearing your rubber bands, but not brushing or flossing properly can delay the treatment as well as chewing on stuff that will probably break your bracket, biting your nails, pens, pencils too
I have to get braces soon and I will have them for such a long time because I don't have crocked teeth!! But my bite is 12.5mm and a regular size bite is 8mm sooooo yeah!!!
+Shireen AM If you have just a slight orange or greenish in your eyes you could use green or orange. If you do, that color will pop out of both your braces and your eyes.

Waterpik! This thing is saving my life. Seriously I'm neurotic about having clean teeth, so using my waterpik with a little peroxide really helped me feel like I'm getting everything cleaned even though I have all this junk in my mouth lol
What I recommend since your skin color is light go for the more darker colors (since its fall time yeah why not?) like dark red, blue etc.. Hope that helped :)

I've had my braces on for 2 years and now I need to have jaw surgery, and keep them on for another year! If this is the case for anyone else I'll be making video's of my journey, and I found watching vidoes really helped me. Drop me any questions if you're curious :) Great video btw!

I'm getting them on Tuesday! My teeth are crazy crooked and I'm actually exited! I'm getting only top braces at first but then I'm getting full mouth. I'm also so scared of the pain! I already went through a full year of top and bottom ex panders but I'm still so worried about pain!
I had my braces on 5/19/2016. My teeth looked straight but the Dr said sometimes your teeth may look straight but need braces more than people who had cricked teeth. I took medicine before getting on the braces. This is my second day, it doesn't hurt at all. All I can feel is the braces moving only tiny bit which didn't hurt a bit. Everyone said it will hurt on the second day but some how my teeth is fine. Hint, take medicine for the first two or three days to help hill. if you don't need to take the medicine after two or three days, don't take it until you are desperate, so that the medicine will work better when you desperate need it. People who have braces should appreciate that their parent or who ever pay for them and for you to wine and not take care of them is a shame. For people who take care of them, recognize and appreciate, keep going! They could use the money to go on trip and buy what ever they want and need with that much money but instead, they were willing to pay for the braces just for you to have a nice smile. My parents sacrifice so much for me!
Simply bcos gum( ANY TYPE) bends the shape of the arch wire ,therefore lenghthening ur treatment type.bending of the arch wire by the cause of gum causes the teeth to move into UNWANTED positions
They hurt badly for about 2 days, but they start to get better, I'm on day 5 with spacers, and I can eat regular foods now. Take pain killers, and use a ice pack.
I got mine on Friday, so I have like a week and a half before school so that's good. I'm just extremely self-conscious about them. /: Were you ever like, not made fun of, but did you ever feel like people maybe thought of you in like a negative way/stop talking to you a lot at school? also there a mouthwash by act called braces care i reccomend you guys use it because it helps prevent cativies and picks up stuff u miss while brushing

@BrittSoung4 At first rubber bands are suuper tight and can be really painful, but the more you wear them the less they'll hurt. I'm pretty sure you are supposed to take them out when you brush your teeth, and I know you're supposed to leave them in when you eat, but they always snapped, so I just started taking them off when I ate, and as long as you put them on right after it's not a big deal. Hope yours feel better soon :)
@EricaArthur15 well hopefully the baby tooth will fall out on its own, but if it doesn't yeah, they'll prolly have to pull it. but don't even stress, getting teeth pulled is not bad at all, they numb you up and the next thing you know you're at home drooling uncontrollably and icing haha. and I'm sure braces can fix whatever you have going on. But till then, don't be self conscious, i'm sure your smiles beautiful! embrace your uniqueness!
@MsMalloryLove I never did, but I talked to my orthodontist about it and he discourages it because he says it makes your teeth move quickly but it's not as permanent.
yeah I got mine taken out. It really wasn't bad at all, honestly I don't remember much because I was so drugged out, but if it will make your braces go faster I would seriously consider it.
dont worry. i was scared at first then when they were putting them on i was like hey this doesnt hurt at all. i just got mine yesterday (7-19-2013). and my teeth are a little sore but dont worry. :)
@blahblahblah77630 trust me, it gets SO much better. your mouth with get used to it, and getting them off is a LOT less painful, especially because you're so excited to have it done ;)
mine didn't hurt at all, in fact I don't even remember really feeling them. But it will really depend on how close together your teeth are. Good luck!!
my teeth are way more messed than yours and i got my braces a week ago and my teeth didnt hurt AT ALL! im so lucky, i could eat anything i wanted (not just yogurt) from day one! the only pain i had was the metal rubbing against the inside of my cheeks
I get my braces this morning and I'm scared AF :'( I will take some med before I go to the back just to make shore.. And also I have to wear rubber-bans so thanks for tip. I will wear them everyday .. What I'm not looking forward to is the pain :'(

You are soo cute!!! you have never seen my nightmare of a story. have you read the book smile? well mine wasn't as bad as that but BAD! I got mine in 6th grade but before that I had a retainer thing that they glued in my mouth that my mom had to crank EVERY DAY TO LITERATELY BRAKE MY JAW!! My mom couldn't pit her pinkie to the roof of my mouth it was so bad! Before that they put spacers in like the blue ones in the video. they F*****G HURT and don't say they don't because that is a LIE. I have had mine on for THREE YEARS now I am now a Freshmen in High School. I do ware my rubber bands religiously but that is only the last bit of this. they had to pull one of my teeth because the root didn't dissolve. One thing i got was a water pick which is a device the shoots jets of water (or mouth wash) to get the gunk out from between your teeth. THIS IS A MUST YOU CAN GET THESE AT BI-MART, COSTCO, WINCO, WALL MART ECT. but no the glue TASTES LIKE S**T. and you apparently have never been the the dentists office since THREE IN THE AFTER NOON and it is now FIVE PM because the bracket came off for the third time. You can eat any thing you prity much want but SALT WATER TAFFY IS A HUGE NO( i learned that the HARD WAY). I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. you in my mind are a wonderful person but you just don't truly understand what i looked like. I LATTERLY LOOKED LIKE A RAT
Hi I have a question, I also just got braces, and I'm wondering, how do they actually go about fixing the "fang" look of the canine teeth? Cuz mine are sharp like that too. How do braces change the shape of them? I know they straighten crooked teeth, but how do they change the shape of "fangs?"
@dancer85432 I seriously recommend that you look into the problems extractions can cause. They can cause you problems in the future like a sunken in appearance and jaw problems! I had mine extracted and wouldprobably do things differently if I could. Look into getting Damon Braces! Do your research! I know it's time consuming but it can definitely pay off!
I have a had all but 2 of my teeth extracted so I am pretty good with mouth pain. I get my braces next week and right now I have BLUE spacers! Pain all depends on the person though. For me, it will probably ache a little bit after. I plan on getting teal and bright pink. They go great together and I have blueish-green eyes. Different orthodontists have different colors. I have neons, pastels, and metallics. Don't be scared to get braces. They are like a really cool fashion accessory! And you can change the colors pretty frequently. Coolio!
Anyone soon undergoing brace treatment should invest in a waterpik, they're WONDERFUL. I use one, and it's super effective in reaching the nooks + crannies. Once i used one and discovered lingering old, dated bits of food. Gross, i know.
I'm getting braces pretty soon. I'm 13 years old and I have a 8 millimeter overbite. So far, that is the only issue. However, I will have to get two teeth pulled for my braces. Also, I will not be able to get bands until I'm about 8 months in. I'm only going to have braces for about a year and a half, but I'm going into the 8th grade which means in a year and a half I will be officially in high school. I would like to have my braces off before high school is there anything (besides wearing my bands the few months I'll have them) to get my braces off quicker? Another question I have is has anyone had any issues with bullying whilst they have had braces? I've never had issues with bullying so I would like to know. Thanks!
You don't have to worry about anyone bullying you. They would just be bullying you for getting prettier. Besides many kids your age are probably getting braces or already have them. You have nothing to worry about. And the only thing other than wearing your rubber bands is to just follow your orthodontists instructions carefully. It is a waiting game but it is well worth it to get them off. In time you will be looking and feeling better than ever. P.S. Take a pain medication the first week or so, they will hurt a lot, but it's temporary. Good luck!
ive had 9 teeth pulled out and 4 of those were adult teeth, and 1 was a tooth in my gums. you have it way better. i also had severe overcrowding but the teeth pulled out helped it so...yeah. but im getting my braces on in 2-3 weeks and i cant wait because i my teeth are so fucked up
You are good. Yes I have had braces for awhile and exactly right-wear your elastics. You have done well hitting all the points. I think the one you said that all should know is...it really does go by fast. The time that is. Really, that is the thing I have found most true. You will be happy if you decide too.
Hey, guys! So I got braces on about a year and a half ago, and I'm getting them off in less than a week. Okay, so I thought I would add to some things. If you get blue, sometimes it does look a little stupid because it adds unwanted attention to your braces. I think silver looked good, and depending on what kind of pink you got, it looks pretty good. It makes your teeth look yellow the whiter the color because it's comparing your teeth to the white color. Also, I was bad about wearing my rubber bands, but the only reason I got them off on time was because I wore them at night which kinda made up for the missed time during the day, so that's why I'm getting them off on time. Flossing is a pain, and my friends with braces told me that I wouldn't floss and give up and I sad I wouldn't, but I did. But, you should get the Christmas tree looking flossers that cleans out the brackets.
I've had my braces on for a year and a half...my bottom teeth moved quickly I started seeing results within the first 6-8 months of having them on. Im just barely seeing results with my top teeth. Only because I had to have a surgery to bring a tooth down from the top of my mouth. That took forever and most people wont have that problem. They are in the process if realigning my front teeth then moving them back. And I should have them off un another 8 months or so:)

First month is always the worst :/ I recommend only eat/drink liquids the first few days (like soup, ice cream) or very soft foods. First thing I ate was a banana.
i waz suppose to get mine off, so i got really hipe because i wont have to deal with them anymore but one of my brackets came off and i didnt get it back on so one of my teeth is just slightly off centered, now the orthodontist said i have to have them on for about 3 to 4 more months, so what i guess what im trying to say is when a bracket comes off, get it put on ASAP, i learned that the hard way...
I've had perfectly straight teeth all my life. I'm 13 and that's when wisdom teeth start to become a nuisance. They pushed the bottom left moulers out of alignment. my teeth still look straight but now i need braces because of it. I was so pissed when I found this out.
I have braces and when I first got them on they didn't hurt at all! But like an hour later by whole mouth was aching so bad! Eat soup and everything! The pain only lasted for a week! Never eat curry that has a lot of turmeric in it because that stains your braces because it's colouring! When I went to get my braces tightened my teeth didn't ache at all after! Only one tooth did for a couple of days and that's it! But my teeth were really bad! I had really bad fangs but my teeth look so much better now they are straighter:)
I got mine like a year ago and I eat anything I've broke 3 brackets which ain't that bad and the thing that hurts the most is the zig zag bands and the chains hurt really bad and the video was good I'm getting mine off in a few weeks bc my teeth was already straight just a 20% over bite 😆😆 luv ur vids thoo

Personally, when they put them on it was really cool :D It took them an hour (it felt like 5 mins...) I think I was having fun. But I was a bit worried when they had to try twice to get the last one on :/

Also to everyone asking about spacers they really don't hurt. They are sore for a two days or so and then they don't even feel like they are there

Not only wearing your rubber bands, but not brushing or flossing properly can delay the treatment as well as chewing on stuff that will probably break your bracket, biting your nails, pens, pencils too

+Shireen AM If you have just a slight orange or greenish in your eyes you could use green or orange. If you do, that color will pop out of both your braces and your eyes.

Waterpik! This thing is saving my life. Seriously I'm neurotic about having clean teeth, so using my waterpik with a little peroxide really helped me feel like I'm getting everything cleaned even though I have all this junk in my mouth lol
What I recommend since your skin color is light go for the more darker colors (since its fall time yeah why not?) like dark red, blue etc.. Hope that helped :)

I had my braces on 5/19/2016. My teeth looked straight but the Dr said sometimes your teeth may look straight but need braces more than people who had cricked teeth. I took medicine before getting on the braces. This is my second day, it doesn't hurt at all. All I can feel is the braces moving only tiny bit which didn't hurt a bit. Everyone said it will hurt on the second day but some how my teeth is fine. Hint, take medicine for the first two or three days to help hill. if you don't need to take the medicine after two or three days, don't take it until you are desperate, so that the medicine will work better when you desperate need it. People who have braces should appreciate that their parent or who ever pay for them and for you to wine and not take care of them is a shame. For people who take care of them, recognize and appreciate, keep going! They could use the money to go on trip and buy what ever they want and need with that much money but instead, they were willing to pay for the braces just for you to have a nice smile. My parents sacrifice so much for me!
I don't get why orthodontists say you can't eat any type of gum, but sugar free gum actually helps.

They hurt badly for about 2 days, but they start to get better, I'm on day 5 with spacers, and I can eat regular foods now. Take pain killers, and use a ice pack.

@BrittSoung4 At first rubber bands are suuper tight and can be really painful, but the more you wear them the less they'll hurt. I'm pretty sure you are supposed to take them out when you brush your teeth, and I know you're supposed to leave them in when you eat, but they always snapped, so I just started taking them off when I ate, and as long as you put them on right after it's not a big deal. Hope yours feel better soon :)
@EricaArthur15 well hopefully the baby tooth will fall out on its own, but if it doesn't yeah, they'll prolly have to pull it. but don't even stress, getting teeth pulled is not bad at all, they numb you up and the next thing you know you're at home drooling uncontrollably and icing haha. and I'm sure braces can fix whatever you have going on. But till then, don't be self conscious, i'm sure your smiles beautiful! embrace your uniqueness!

@MsMalloryLove I never did, but I talked to my orthodontist about it and he discourages it because he says it makes your teeth move quickly but it's not as permanent.
yeah I got mine taken out. It really wasn't bad at all, honestly I don't remember much because I was so drugged out, but if it will make your braces go faster I would seriously consider it.

dont worry. i was scared at first then when they were putting them on i was like hey this doesnt hurt at all. i just got mine yesterday (7-19-2013). and my teeth are a little sore but dont worry. :)
@blahblahblah77630 trust me, it gets SO much better. your mouth with get used to it, and getting them off is a LOT less painful, especially because you're so excited to have it done ;)

I usually just go through the pain, it really hurts sometimes, but I just don't believe or like taking pain reliever for it :)
mine didn't hurt at all, in fact I don't even remember really feeling them. But it will really depend on how close together your teeth are. Good luck!!

my teeth are way more messed than yours and i got my braces a week ago and my teeth didnt hurt AT ALL! im so lucky, i could eat anything i wanted (not just yogurt) from day one! the only pain i had was the metal rubbing against the inside of my cheeks
Having cleaner teeth and flossing you teeth helps to get them off quicker. If your teeth are cleaner, they move quicker

I got mine in 6th grade but before that I had a retainer thing that they glued in my mouth that my mom had to crank EVERY DAY TO LITERATELY BRAKE MY JAW!! My mom couldn't pit her pinkie to the roof of my mouth it was so bad! Before that they put spacers in like the blue ones in the video. they F*****G HURT and don't say they don't because that is a LIE. I have had mine on for THREE YEARS now I am now a Freshmen in High School. I do ware my rubber bands religiously but that is only the last bit of this. they had to pull one of my teeth because the root didn't dissolve. One thing i got was a water pick which is a device the shoots jets of water (or mouth wash) to get the gunk out from between your teeth. THIS IS A MUST YOU CAN GET THESE AT BI-MART, COSTCO, WINCO, WALL MART ECT. but no the glue TASTES LIKE S**T. and you apparently have never been the the dentists office since THREE IN THE AFTER NOON and it is now FIVE PM because the bracket came off for the third time. You can eat any thing you prity much want but SALT WATER TAFFY IS A HUGE NO( i learned that the HARD WAY). I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. you in my mind are a wonderful person but you just don't truly understand what i looked like. I LATTERLY LOOKED LIKE A RAT

Hi I have a question, I also just got braces, and I'm wondering, how do they actually go about fixing the "fang" look of the canine teeth? Cuz mine are sharp like that too. How do braces change the shape of them? I know they straighten crooked teeth, but how do they change the shape of "fangs?"

I seriously recommend that you look into the problems extractions can cause. They can cause you problems in the future like a sunken in appearance and jaw problems! I had mine extracted and wouldprobably do things differently if I could. Look into getting Damon Braces! Do your research! I know it's time consuming but it can definitely pay off!
I have a had all but 2 of my teeth extracted so I am pretty good with mouth pain. I get my braces next week and right now I have BLUE spacers! Pain all depends on the person though. For me, it will probably ache a little bit after. I plan on getting teal and bright pink. They go great together and I have blueish-green eyes. Different orthodontists have different colors. I have neons, pastels, and metallics. Don't be scared to get braces. They are like a really cool fashion accessory! And you can change the colors pretty frequently. Coolio!
Anyone soon undergoing brace treatment should invest in a waterpik, they're WONDERFUL. I use one, and it's super effective in reaching the nooks + crannies. Once i used one and discovered lingering old, dated bits of food. Gross, i know.

I'm getting braces pretty soon. I'm 13 years old and I have a 8 millimeter overbite. So far, that is the only issue. However, I will have to get two teeth pulled for my braces. Also, I will not be able to get bands until I'm about 8 months in. I'm only going to have braces for about a year and a half, but I'm going into the 8th grade which means in a year and a half I will be officially in high school. I would like to have my braces off before high school is there anything (besides wearing my bands the few months I'll have them) to get my braces off quicker?
Another question I have is has anyone had any issues with bullying whilst they have had braces? I've never had issues with bullying so I would like to know.

You don't have to worry about anyone bullying you. They would just be bullying you for getting prettier. Besides many kids your age are probably getting braces or already have them. You have nothing to worry about. And the only thing other than wearing your rubber bands is to just follow your orthodontists instructions carefully. It is a waiting game but it is well worth it to get them off. In time you will be looking and feeling better than ever. P.S. Take a pain medication the first week or so, they will hurt a lot, but it's temporary. Good luck!

ive had 9 teeth pulled out and 4 of those were adult teeth, and 1 was a tooth in my gums. you have it way better. i also had severe overcrowding but the teeth pulled out helped it so...yeah. but im getting my braces on in 2-3 weeks and i cant wait because i my teeth are so fucked up
You are good. Yes I have had braces for awhile and exactly right-wear your elastics. You have done well hitting all the points. I think the one you said that all should know is...it really does go by fast. The time that is. Really, that is the thing I have found most true. You will be happy if you decide too.
Hey, guys! So I got braces on about a year and a half ago, and I'm getting them off in less than a week. Okay, so I thought I would add to some things. If you get blue, sometimes it does look a little stupid because it adds unwanted attention to your braces. I think silver looked good, and depending on what kind of pink you got, it looks pretty good. It makes your teeth look yellow the whiter the color because it's comparing your teeth to the white color. Also, I was bad about wearing my rubber bands, but the only reason I got them off on time was because I wore them at night which kinda made up for the missed time during the day, so that's why I'm getting them off on time. Flossing is a pain, and my friends with braces told me that I wouldn't floss and give up and I sad I wouldn't, but I did. But, you should get the Christmas tree looking flossers that cleans out the brackets.
I've had my braces on for a year and a half...my bottom teeth moved quickly I started seeing results within the first 6-8 months of having them on. Im just barely seeing results with my top teeth. Only because I had to have a surgery to bring a tooth down from the top of my mouth. That took forever and most people wont have that problem. They are in the process if realigning my front teeth then moving them back. And I should have them off un another 8 months or so:)

First month is always the worst :/ I recommend only eat/drink liquids the first few days (like soup, ice cream) or very soft foods. First thing I ate was a banana.
i waz suppose to get mine off, so i got really hipe because i wont have to deal with them anymore but one of my brackets came off and i didnt get it back on so one of my teeth is just slightly off centered, now the orthodontist said i have to have them on for about 3 to 4 more months, so what i guess what im trying to say is when a bracket comes off, get it put on ASAP, i learned that the hard way...
I've had perfectly straight teeth all my life. I'm 13 and that's when wisdom teeth start to become a nuisance. They pushed the bottom left moulers out of alignment. my teeth still look straight but now i need braces because of it. I was so pissed when I found this out.
I have braces and when I first got them on they didn't hurt at all! But like an hour later by whole mouth was aching so bad! Eat soup and everything! The pain only lasted for a week! Never eat curry that has a lot of turmeric in it because that stains your braces because it's colouring! When I went to get my braces tightened my teeth didn't ache at all after! Only one tooth did for a couple of days and that's it! But my teeth were really bad! I had really bad fangs but my teeth look so much better now they are straighter:)

I got mine like a year ago and I eat anything I've broke 3 brackets which ain't that bad and the thing that hurts the most is the zig zag bands and the chains hurt really bad and the video was good I'm getting mine off in a few weeks bc my teeth was already straight just a 20% over bite 😆😆 luv ur vids thoo

Personally, when they put them on it was really cool :D It took them an hour (it felt like 5 mins...) I think I was having fun. But I was a bit worried when they had to try twice to get the last one on :/
