I remember when I first started FF14 asking "How long exactly is a 'Yalm?" and some absolute legend responded with "It's the length of a Lalafell lying down."
It's even on the wiki. And an ilm is the length of a hyur thumb if I'm not mistaken
@@rasrandir If I recall it was created by using the thumb of a merchant (or maybe a pirate?) who was trying to scam people over fabric by arguing what an ilm was.
For anyone who is interesteds reference...
Ilm: An adult Hyuran thumb; a ripe rolanberry
Fulm: An adult Hyuran foot; a grown chocobo tailfeather
Yalm : A b sword blade; an adult Lalafellin male
Malm: The distance an adult Elezen can run in a tenth bell; The approximate height of O'Ghomoro
Onze: An adult Hyuran thumb; a 100-gil coin
Ponze: A merchant's scale stone; a block of kukuru butter
Tonze: A fully matured goobbue; 600 bottles of Wineport red (1 standard overseas shipment)
@@lordkrauser The lorebook has such a cool story on that:
Eorzeans measure length and distance in ilms, fulms, yalms, and malms. The ilm is a fundamental unit of measurement, roughly equivalent to the length of an adult Hyuran thumb, with the longer fulms, yalms, and malms calculated using the ilm as a base. Needless to say, as the size of body parts can vary from person to person, these units were somewhat imprecise in the early days of their use. While this would rarely be a problem in close-knit communities, confusion quickly ensued as trade and commerce spread across the realm.
Matters came to a head in the year 986 of the Sixth Astral Era, when a pirate who had come to Limsa Lominsa to procure sailcloth from the black markets became enraged when his purchase fell short of the length for which he believed he had paid. Though contradicting accounts of the incident exist, most agree that the ensuing scuffle left some fifty men dead or wounded. Admiral Agatzahr Roehmerlsyn of Limsa Lominsa took swift action, promptly arresting the pirate who had caused the ruckus, lopping his thumb clean off, and declaring that it would henceforth serve as the standard measure of an ilm throughout the land. Cast-iron replicas of the buccaneer's severed digit were produced in bulk and distributed around the realm to serve as one-ilm rules, and disputes over vague measurements soon became a thing of the past.
The moral of the story: Don't fuck with the admiral of Limsa Lominsa
On one hand, I get it. Some Lala players want their OCs to be taken seriously. On the other hand... It is pretty funny
I'm sorry but I just can't take lalafells seriously at all, during ARR I legit couldn't hold in my laughter at times when a lala would appear in the cutscenes
I could never take small races seriously. Especially gnomes, goblins and vulpera in WoW. You'd get squashed to pulp by the average tauren hoof, lol.
well i mean - it's a virtual game. you can choose your race - if you'd ACTUALLY want to be intimidating and or taken seriously - choose a not so cutesy race in that case?
there's a big disconnect in both wanting to look childlike AND want to be the most respected hero in the world.....
people need to realise that they have no control over others minds and how they will percieve you - only how THEY react to what the world does
@@markrobless6245 You need to look up Yuyuhase's Japanese voice. It's a riot.
it was an uphill battle. Ingame flavor text has made it canon they are comparable to potatoes. Its just not gonna happen. The day that happens is the day RUclipsrs make videos about how Teledi Adeleji was a better villain than Emet Selch.
Him just laughing at this nonsense was the appropriate reaction.
was running MSQ at this point and got the "Such Devastation" speech right then
If the frikken Sultana of Ul'dah, a serious character, can sit on the shoulders of a full-ass grown man, then you can sit on this chair with a straight face and like it.
Only thing id want in this chair is different wood colors, so i can have that black wood with golden cushions.
Im glad we have it though, now we have something we fit in without requiring people to sit at a tiny table
Everyone: "Lalas small"
Lalas: (Pulls out gun) "Say that again. I dare you."
Me: Nice cap gun kid
You damn right bro... you're just too tall😂
Reminds me of Lalafelon from FF14 in a Nutshell
You say gun, I say pea shooter
This drama is another example how the FF14 community has so little to whine about that this shit becomes huge drama. It has been getting crazier and crazier since 2019. People are just making huge shit out of absolutely nothing burgers...
Less ‘the community’ and more ‘some players in the community’.
yeah especially after ffxiv have blown up in popularity recently
I'd take this over sex offenders and retention systems to squeeze player wallet.
"someone had an opinion"
"OH SHIT REALLY BOYS IT'S DRAMA TIME TIME FOR DRAMA HAHA ITS FF DRAMA AGAIN EVERY WEEK WITH THESE GUYS"
Yeah... it's pretty jarring.
to be fair... nobody looks good with this chair. Throw the description aside, you know this is a bad design when you basically design an item based on the largest character models (Roe's) and have everyone looking small sitting in it if you aren't a giant.
There is one Lala who actually doesn't make me think she's childlike. Her name is Tataru and I'm pretty sure she owns my soul now.
The fucking Ultima Weapon music playing as Preach enters Braggart’s room and is sitting at the table across from the empty Lala chair got me hahahahaha
I legit have tears in my eyes seeing it
I hope lala players complain more so SE gives up making furniture for them and focuses on the real issue…. Viera hats.
👏👏👏 all of this!!
I don’t think Vierra would wear hats. It’d interfere with their ears in an uncomfortable way.
@@lawrencebarber8583there are several hats, hoods and even helmets that already work.
Hear hear!
@@lawrencebarber8583 And that’s exactly why the Viera hats that SE does let you wear just chop off your ears. No more pain 🥴
Forgetting about lalafells a moment -
Furniture, tables, counters are too big to make sense for even miqote and au ra women, let alone lalafells.
Whoever makes housing has made everythings scale massively oversize.
That apple is the size of my head!
Can we just have a size slider for furniture? from 50% to 150% :p
stuff looks sized for roegadyn, lemme make it small enough for my max height miqo damn it.
Unfortunately, that seems to be game design in general. Especially in a game where there's a variance in a character's height. This is more apparent in doors in not just FF, but videogames in general. I'm no developer, but far as i know there's some invisible mumbo jumbo involving the game physics that needs to fit that door too along with your character.
@@Reaper1722 It's also because it's an MMO that needs to account for high player traffic. Having a normal size door is nice until more than five players are going through it at once. Then it feels crowded and silly. Things like hallways and buildings also need to not just to account for the player model, but camera positioning. Players need to see the things around them from a 3rd person perspective and having the camera zoom up to you the moment you enter a building is a terrible feeling.
I'm a baby programmer but from what I know it might have to do with camera clipping and variance in player colliders etc. Even my Miqo boi feels a bit small at times...
As a lalafell player, I find it hilarious that there are people who get mad over the item IN THE VIDEO GAME. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that item, miqo'te have a similar one.
I sincerely offer to all those offended people to touch the grass and care about something better than just an item in the game.
I love my cat tree in my Miqo'te living room ❤
Man, the reason that regular lalafel players get allegedly so much grief is because the ones that want to RP their childlike characters in adult scenarios are so loud.
To be fair, the game does a lot to put them in "adult" scenarios. The first thing that comes to mind is Teledji and the bloody banquet. None of the politicking, backstabbing, and scheming some lalafell characters get up to screams "child-like", despite their appearance.
99% of Lala players I know play them for trolling, so I see nothing wrong with a little trolling back at them.
One of my lala friends said it simple “I play lala because I’m dead inside”
honestly well deserved, W for se
Must be nice to have so few problems in life that this is one of them.
I feel like this is mainly a r.p. problem. Because I been playing a year and I only been called a child once and that was the appropriate baby sitting joke in a dungeon because there was three lalafell, and one tall as hell bunny Amazon, it would be a waste and a shame to not make a baby sitting joke.
Of all the drama in 14 this year so far this is Definitely the funniest one
You know what they say: if you cant beat them, join them! They create their own drama to dramatise that they have nothing to drama about.
As a lala I find this hilarious. Also i really don’t think i have enjoyed msq any less being a lala. On my alt, i went through msq as hyur and idk I missed my lala in the cutscenes.
The best part are lalas whining like children, to be treat as an adult, and on top of that, Yoshi P is a lala. KEKW
whining*
As Xenos says, and I don't always agree with his takes 100%, if this is all they have to worry about then my God it must be nice to have no REAL problems in life.
Xenos is cringe
before this "event" in ffxiv history, i never realized lalafel players were so sensitive. i got hints of it here and there but this "drama" really opened my eyes.
I do like playing the gnomes, asura and my ff14 char is a lala. I also think the lala's in FF14 act a lot more cute and childlike then gnomes and especially asura act in the other mmos. I mostly mean their emotes etc.
because we (as our characters that are lalas) dont have knees.
I wish I had the lack of issues in my life needed to give a shit about a meme about a race I choose to play in a bloody video game. Just ignore it and enjoy yourself, if anyone give you crap in game for it, block and/or report them and move on. There are thousands of other things you could be spending energy on giving that much of a crap.
If I could wear or beard or wrinkles on my lalafell, I would. I just think playing a lalafell through the MSQ is hilarious, it makes every cutscene funnier.
I don't play Lala, but I've seen streamers who do and without spoilers there is a certain climactic fight scene that is absolutely absurd if it's a Lala.
Some Lala face choices have beards and mustaches, or am I missing something?
There's also the ShB Dwarf outfits
@Wastingsometimehere absurd? It was the best thing in the game and it made it at least 10 times better for me. It also makes me like the other character in that scene a whole lot more because it shows they don't care about such things
@@Vokoca I was entertained. Don't get me wrong.
Mad because small.
fucks sake this feels like the south park episode with the midget and cartman unable to not laugh
I play a lala precisely because of how ridiculous they are. They're great! But I do find it equally hilarious that RPers ban Lalas because it breaks immersion on their super serious RP.
Lala's are just the little people of ffxiv, not children.
In theory, yes. In praxis, as preach already said, they are children. They look like children, talk like children, walk like children.
Exactly, they players saying that they are children are just weird and should maybe take a look in the mirror.
It's not that they don't know they are child-like, it's that they don't want to be. I've seen a lot of lalas hating on their own animation because they look like penguins while walking.
It’s literally a high chair so that Lalas can sit and the grown up table without having their faces blocked.
And before anyone goes, just give them a small chair and table, that doesn’t fix the problem of them sitting at tables with other races.
Who cares? just add the option.
@@spacejunk2186
Option? That isn't an option, that'd be an entirely different piece of furniture.
Someone out there is going for chemo tomorrow and these people are mad about a chair that isn't real. Let that sink in.
I don't get it. It's just a normal wooden chair with a shortened back.
If I had to complain about something it would be the lack of pattern on the upholstery. Adding some detail would make it look much nicer. Maybe a flower pattern if it's fabric, and if it's leather some rivets/nails to give the cushions a more interesting shape.
Also, why can't furniture just be scaled to fit small/large characters? Why the need to make furniture that is race specific when size is the only relevant variable?
Every piece of furniture in this game is made for Roegadyn. No, I am not joking. I started as mid and was very annoyed that all housing items looked oversized. About a year ago I fanted to roe and lo and behold - every piece of furniture is scaled correctly to my (max) height and size. Every single one. I guess it’s because it’s easier to make every object big and then make animations fit to it rather than making individual set of animations for different sizes and making sure no animations look wrong.
Also, I find entire thread being hilarious because first thing that lala players should do so peoples stop treating them like babies is stop behaving like ones.
when i went for my prostate exam they asked 'do you want a male or female doctor?'
to which i rpelied 'i don't care, just send the one with the smallest hands'
Complains that the chair makes them look and be treated like children. Yet goes to the forums and acts like children by complaining about something so trivial.
I honestly hope every race gets a joke item in the game. Miqo have a scratching post. Why can’t Au Ra have special beds with a little hole for their horns? Why can’t Roes get oversized chairs? Why can’t Viera get a veggie bowl? These sort of things are awesome!
8:22 --- I mean, its true: kids in the game are taller than lalas XD
I'm sorry, but this entire thread looks like kids being upset they cant eat at the grown-up's table... XD
I like my Lalafell main, and I think having a sense of humour about it is important. Any sensible person can see this chair is a non-issue.
At the same time playing Lalafells means getting hate along with the humour. Head pats are fine, but being trolled or treated like an infant is not. Babysitting jokes are fine, but being called a creep just for playing a Lalafell is NOT. Miqote girls get creepy messages and we all understand it’s not the their fault. And yet Lalafells get little to no community support. Some turtle up and start hating _anything_ that points out how short they are. It’s not the right way to handle it, but I wish more people could appreciate how that persecution complex developed. 90% of players reading this have an animal tail/ears. That doesn’t give me the right to call you a furry or make jokes about you liking animals “too much”. Because that’s not joking anymore, that’s just being an asshole. Besides the developers made different playable races for a reason: because different people have different tastes. Judging people for that is stupid.
Tldr: have a sense of humour, but don’t be an asshole.
I want Cider Spider's take on this now.
Mad because small... But for real.
I'm a professional Lala and this is amazing. The rest of these clowns should be stuffed in the bird cage until they develop a sense of humor.
Hear, hear. Been a lala since 2020. This shit is hilarious. Not being able to laugh at yourself and taking everything as a personal offense against you is a goddamned disease of our times.
Ah Bacallala. I approve
Just got recommended this, and, lalas are high pitch dwarves to me.
I've never seen them as children, they're too weirdly proportioned to see as a child.
And some of my friends that played lala have been abused in dungeons because of it.
I haven't played since the end of Shb though, so I didn't even know about this, and I'm sure I would have a stronger emotion if I saw my friends go through it repeatedly while the drama happened.
Imagine Lolorito sitting at one of these eating his applesauce and scheming
we didn't see people shitting themselves over the cat tree for miqo'te
now we just need a sun rock and heat lamp for au ra
I have been laughing for five days straight, this shit is too funny not to be real.
For me with the chair, it's the colors. The colors are something you'd see in a little girl's room. That said, as a lala, I think this chair is funny. I do want lala sized furniture so my decorations can actually look like I live there instead of rent from a Roe. Lalas look like toddlers for sure. It's the face and body proportions. The large head, potato body, giant eyes, big forehead, small nose, etc all combine to make a creature that resembles a child.
I don't know why, but the "rent from a roe" part gave me a good giggle.
They probably chose those colors to go with the moogle, tonberry, and sylphic themed furniture.
when they realize that yoship plays as a lalafell
I play a Lala and I bought four of these for my house LOL.
I read this thread. Its 9 posts long, With most of the posters either being irritated they couldn't get a true starch creature sized housing item, or concerned that this item is liable to be used to fuel the "meme hate" of Lalafells and their players within the 14 community again. Which it seems they were right and it has tbh, given how much attention this thread has gotten.
Pretty much certain that it isn't the chair that is causing the "meme hate" but the lala responses themselves which is causing the "meme hate."
Hopefully Square Enix finds a way to pacify these concerns in a later patch. There are too many Lalafell players making a rattle to ignore it. These issues have been bottled up for too long.
Im hoping the lalafell community can be the bigger man in this situation and forgive Square Enix for their lack of consideration of others
I think the bigger issue is they don’t want to be called a pedo because they play them. I think pyro said something about lala players are pedos because they are child like. I believe it is deleted so hard to double check.
I like how most of the people on the forum complaining are from the Crystal Data Center. 😂
This is something we needed theses days
The Lalafels got their baby lifter instead of Chair sized for lalafel 😂😂😂😂
This is hilarious and the name should remain.
I do agree that additional dye options couldn't hurt, though. lol
I just wish the wood would dye too... like... white is a nice color but does not go well in some astetics of homes. otherwise I think the chair is great. no more eating the table when I sit at a cafe
His laugh is probably everyone's reaction to this fucking nonsense. 😂
I can't imagine the WoL being a Lalafell it just feels like playing the game with comical cheat codes turned on back when you could unlock big head mode and shit. like there are some cool lalafell npcs but i just dont get picking one as you canon WoL
lala is literally just a troll race and a mascot... for the weirdos who want to be childlike
Dunno, I played the whole game as lala, and it never made things any less serious for me. If anything, I really enjoyed how expressive they are and how personalized some of the cutscenes felt.
I still think back fondly to the time Asahi leans down to get into your face to talk shit, loved that extra effort on his part lol
I don't really see lalas as children, but the chair is hilarious.
@@Vokoca i mean, if you think playing the msq as a lala or a normal race makes no difference in tone, you are honestly delusional xD
@@Kenzaii tf does that even mean? If anything YOUR the weirdo for thinking that.
They’re funny. They’re cute. It’s really not that deep guys.
This reeks of manufactured nontroversy. The rest of the community outside of this small handful of folks arent bothered. It was a 9 post reddit thread...
I wish Yoship would show up in this thread and just comment WeirdChamp
ALSO - it's a JOKE by the devs that Lalafells look like kids. Learn to take a joke instead of getting upset at anything remotely negative about you
And the chair looks still to tall for Lala's :D
Have to put the Lalafell step stool next to it XD
im confused why preach has such a hard time understanding that small does not equal an actual toddler in tastes and behavior. lala players have stood at the same place at the edge of existence and smitten down the physical manifestation of despair. they wear weapons and kill every mob in sight with extreme prejudice just the same, only to then be reduced to "you look small, so you have to sit in a chair designed for babies who lack the motor skills to not fall off anything else" i can see why lalas are mad
I do think there's a certain degree of projection when someone says they can't see Papashan or Pipin as anything other than children.
It's only because they are small you say? Did you miss the part where he said that gnomes aren't childlike?
You are deliberatly not mentioning the lalas walk, talk and emotes because you know it's not in your favour.
Why are you so adamant to make people think they aren't toddlers. No one cares. They are small and cute. But don't think they don't look like toddlers, because they do. Regardless of what they do in-game. It's irrelevant.
@@pavfeiraThe good old "You criticize me for being a pedo so that must mean YOU are one"
@@MrCarlWax yeah no i 100% agree they look like toddlers, all im saying is i wouldnt wanna put a toddler with the ability to kill god into a baby chair tho lmao
@@MrCarlWax Odd, you pinged me with a reply but it got deleted. Was probably very upset, whatever it was.
It would be funny if FFXIV just came out with even more furniture to piss off the extreme RPing Lalas. I mean, Yoshi P plays a Lala. You don’t see him complaining. Next we’re going to see NA Viera players complaining about Vieras being sexualized. Hrothgar players crying at being called furries.
I’m a lala main and have been for 8 years now. Do I like this chair? No. Do I care enough to be angry at it? No. It just won’t go into my home or my apt. Problem solved. People who are gonna use it to troll lalas already hate lalas and troll them anyway so who cares? These people need thicker skin. 🤷🏻♀️
My lala in my mind is an adult, but I see where people think they look like kids. I play a lala solely because I think my character is cute and she makes me smile.
Edited to add: Boris has my lala’s voice. The man has good taste :)
If ppl hate lalas then they already hate them not because of a "highchair" so to me it doesn't matter what type of furniture lalas get. That seems to be the point that people are missing...ppl hating lalas is a COMMUNITY issue not SE...I say this because in the JP server NOONE is complaining about the chair or making fun of lalas in general so this is purely an NA issue.
So where's all my Roegadyn gym equipment, SE?
I thought the whole point of the lalas is that they resemble nes from earthbound for somereason
I'm in tears
i must say as someone who plays a Lala i would wish for more Lala-sized furniture like beds etc. because laying in a bed that is more than twice the length than the Lala height looks wierd but. i find that "lifter" quite funny.
there just short people, that's all they should be period.
Ser Braggardt saying 'I can't tell, I'm too high up.' as a fellow max height Roe-man, I felt that. I can barely see my own damn minions unless they fly >.>
I hear there is a scratching post for miqo'te as a housing item. Don't know if it true, I am still only messing with the wall and light of my apartment at the moment.
Can't we make jokes about any fictional races in games? Hyurs are being joked to be always plain, boring and very basic. That doesn't make me mad. I don't care. It's a joke.
This is a problem with people not having the ability to disconnect reality and fiction.
I personally don't mind Lalas because there a lot of situations where they are funny, but people complaining about being treated as a kid when their playing as a Lala are actually delusional. And those that are complaining about not being allowed in RP situations, especially ERP need to be put on a list. I see them as walking potatoes, but still, the thought of people ERPing with them is fucking disturbing and if caught should be banned.
It's the PLAYERS that make lalas weird. When it comes to the NPCs, i see them as just very small adults with their own duties like everyone else.
As someone who plays on the JP servers, whenever I see the western server people complaining it seems to be over the weirdest stuff.
As lala player i think those child like furniture are funny and i will put them in my house. I wasn't happy when they delete the chair.
“There has to be a way for this to victimize me somehow….” WTF even.
Potato on a booster seat.
OMG! I would love that thing if it had the tray table for dindin!
Proof that some individuals are willing to go that extra mile just to make themselves feel like a victim.
Deep emotional insecurity is on full display.
If you are going to play a Cabbage Patch kid, at least own it. Lala players...
/me making lala sized apartments all the time with super cozy low ceilings
I don't mind oversized stuff to be honest I think it's super cute with my lala
The OP must be shitposting lmao this can’t be a real “drama”
Idk what this dude's issue is, the chair is hilarious. That said, I also think it'd be funny to have miniaturized furniture that only lalas can use, like in that house in Tomra.
I just made a lalafell lifter church haha
You know what is the funny part to me? That chair feels too damn high to sit on for a lalafell, you need to put the lalafell stool next to it if you want to reach the top realistically lol
The extreme delusion level of cope I can see coming off the statement "Wanted to play the short race." makes me almost Ill, I refuse to believe that the number of people who picked lala for only their height exceeds double digits. If you wanna be short, be the shorter human with the slider set to 0 bro, you picked lala cause they're either funny, cute, or some other emotional response dependant on the person, to pretend you picked it to be short is insane to me, there is short, like 5 feet tall, and there is lala short bro. Cap.
While it's not the best that the thing they custom rigged is a High Chair.... as a lala this is extremely funny to me all the same.
i mainly like Lala height as an extra Disconnect from Reality.
this also helps with meeting other lala's is with other races i can't help it wonder who that person is behind the computer. but with lala's i don't care as i dont want to know more.
AND it keeps me away from potential ERP which i want to stay far far away from.
That said i don't consider myself a Lala. im a Dwarf, the only (sub-)race to actually have beards. 😎
also this controversy is just a big joke.
Anything that mocks Lalas is always a good addition to the game and every non-lala player would agree!
I'm a lalafell and this is funny.
Idk i still think its a shitpost
Players complaining about a lack of content don't know about the latest Lalafell tantrum
Im a lalafell player. Its a chair, get over it
Lalafell are never childish in the lore/story so it's pretty jarring to get infantilised I imagine.
Are.. are there really Lalafell players that are under the delusion that their characters don't look like chubby little toddlers playing dress-up? It's a joke race. They aren't supposed to be taken seriously.
Why are major story characters lalas then? Some of them having dramatic story beats associated with them. MOOGLES are a joke race, if you want an actually good example :D
They arent a joke race. They an integral part of the lore and a core part of much of its story beats.
@@ich3730 You're getting way off topic. The conversation is about appearances, not story significance.
keep the chair and remove the lalafells.
Hang on, the fact that larger races can't use it very well is actually more enraging to me than the cutsey nature? What they need to do is change the dye areas.
Tbf if people wanna have the kid lala talk, their gonna also need to accept the models of normal male n female humans n cats look like teens X3 n no one wants to go down that road. So let's say it's short people in an anime style yeah? Doubt people want them to be represented by gnomes
Lala's looking like kids is stated in lore, it's canon. There's nothing in canon saying every Miqote and Hyur look like teens. I don't think the male and female models for cats or humans look like teens anyways. Look at Ystola or Thancred and try telling me they look like a teenagers
@@Miriam_J_ the lore at the character creator only states childlike stature (or height) afaik. It does mention they have a youthful appearance, but youthful =/= a child, Lolorito I would say looks youthful, but does not at all strike me as a child.
Encyclopedia Eorzia mentions the following: "stocky and squat of stature, the Lalafell are by far the most diminutive of Eorzea's races. Typically maintaining a youthful appearance even in advancing years, a Lalafell's true age is ofttimes difficult for members of other races to ascertain"
Please drop the next msq chapter yoship this is what your people have become
Some people really need to go outside more, maybe tamp down on the victim mentality just a hair. I mean did any of these people seething and malding over a CHAIR might consider that maybe, just maybe, it was *intended* to look ridiculous?
Humor is truly lost in this day and age.
these weirdos are mad because it reminds them of reality
