- Pokémon by and large is easy, you build a team of insanely strong Pokémon and destroy every trainer you come up against. It isn't always like this though... sometimes you're met with an extremely tough battle that you weren't expecting. So, this video will be going over the top 5 hardest trainers in Pokémon history, if you agree with our list, make sure to leave a like on the video, and if you didn't, let us know in the comments where we went wrong!

i always thought gary from red&blue was the hardest since you have to battle right after your battle with lance & don’t get the chance to heal up between.
I can see that in concept. However, his movests just are not good and depending on your starter he can have 3 flying types. Tho to be fair the Alakazam can be tough.
My order would be:
5) Red (purely because of levels of his team)
4) Iris (Challenge Mode lvl 80s Rematch, B2W2)
3) Ghetsis (BW) and Crasher Wake (BDSP Rematch)
2) BDSP Cynthia (final Rematch )
1) Volo
Cynthia in diamond pearl and platinum isn't too bad but she is definitely the most overpowered trainer in BDSP because she has a full competitive team WITH FULL RESTORES!!!
Bro I beat her second try and bdsp was the first Pokemon game ive ever played.
I would say the remake definitely made her far harder, but I don't think diamond/pearl/platinum Cynthia was that hard.
People are always throwing shade at Ice types, but if you want to sweep Bertha and OHKO Cynthia's Garchomp in gen 4, bring Abomasnow with Blizzard and Wood Hammer to the affair and watch the health bars drain away. 😏
I believe if you’ve played the games before and remember typing and prepping all of these are easy.
But gym leaders like Winona & Norman from R/S, Lt. Surge & Whitney are extremely difficult if you’re a beginner.
Overall nothing beats the Emerald or Platinum Battle Frontiers
Surge was never hard but the others can be run killers as a new player/kid
I love these lists. Everybody's experience is a little different. I don't remember gen 4 Cynthia being so legendary for me, personally, but I always brought at least one Ice type to that Elite 4, and ice types obliterate Garchomp if they can survive a hit from it or outspeed it and then nail it with Blizzard or Ice Beam. I have not played BDSP, though, and that might not be enough in that game's case. Also, a gimmicky strategy for her spiritomb is to use Foresight DynamicPunch No Guard Machamp. Fun to make her "no weakness" mon take super effective damage, hehe.
But Red in generation 2 got me good. After losing and realizing how much grinding I would have to do to level with him, I just kinda quit.

My list would have been a bit different than this gentleman's, but I wouldn't put it in the top 5, maybe the top 10, though. Tough enough, because paradox pokémon have high base stat totals and if you didn't study their types beforehand, mistakes could be costly, but Prof's levels aren't significantly higher than previous late-game fights, and you can't fail the battle with the other ride pokémon. If you actually had to play that battle like a normal one, it would be very hard, though.
Side note: My hardest Scarlet/Violet battle personally was actually Arven's at the end of the Titans quest. It's the only battle in my playthrough where I actually got completely wiped out and had to rearrange my party and grind up a bit to win. I also fought him a little earlier than I think I was supposed to, though, so it might have been just that simple. I almost swept him when I retried.
@@gargervon8697 I went into the Arven final battle completely clueless of what he has in store for me.
When I saw his level 58 Greedent, I was like, oops. My team is only like on the 55s.
I still won that one, but it wasn't easy and I have to spam Dragon Dance with Gyarados.
I think if you put Cynthia on the list it should be a specific battle since all battles are different to some extend.
Cynthia 3 in BDSP would be my pick for Cynthia battle. With the held items, movesets and investment in her Pokémon's stats it is the strongest Cynthia has ever been. Outside of that my order would be different and some picks not even here, but that is subjective.
6:26 Cynthia: You thought it was Leon but it was me Cynthia. Leon is the 2nd best in the Pokemon universe but not in the game.
3:09 Wait till a Decade or 2023 for Gamefreak to make the Black and White, Black and White 2 or Unova Remakes for them to add in the Fairy Type. With the console comes out with Graphics and remastered music to listen to.
I found onix was a good way to counter Whitney. It's incredibly slow and a real grind, but onix hardly takes any damage from moves like stomp and rollout due to its high defence and typing, and it's not difficult to get it on your team by Goldenrod City. You do have to set aside about half an hour at least if you use this method, though.
A female Geodude can get the job done, too. Use a defense curl and flip the rollout script on her. Start it with Clefairy, and by the time it beats Clefairy in one hit, it will probably beat Miltank with what's left. Milk Drink can't save it from a 960 base power STAB attack, and if the geodude is female, Attract wastes her turn.

My strategy between each gym was to evolve my Pokemons by 10 levels each time. So, by the time I'd face Cynthia, I'd be at least at level 70.
I honestly think that there are a few things that could be tweaked for some of them, and even though I managed to beat Cynthia in Platinum and BDSP, this was after she beat me on my first tries and for Shining Pearl, due to my impatience and frustration, several attempts at my plan to beat her. I did manage to beat her in her rematches, but I barely stood a chance. Volo took a few tries, because I wanted to record the battle, but the one that destroyed me more than Cynthia when I was a kid was Ghetsis in Pokemon Black, since I wasn't very good at Pokemon at the time, and I tried so many times to take him down to no avail, save a few bits of help from some friends, I did manage to beat him more consistently as I got older and tried again, and he no longer haunts my memories since USUM when I whipped him down a notch with my Ultra Moon Team, but they're still pretty painful memories.
I stomped every one of these and never realized they were OP because type match ups are OP and honestly need to be adjusted. Only time I ever struggled was against May on my way to Mauville in Saphire and up against someone's Milotic.

That was intentional; they wanted the Giratina battle to leave far more impact than the 6v6 before it.

I think the may 2 fight in emerald is a nightmare battle. The one right before watson. As a kid did that fight like 3 times and I know speed runners have difficult times with it I don’t know what they did to pump that one up but it’s hard
I agree. That Route 110 Rival fight is a sudden jump in difficulty.
Though it's emerald; a game of difficult battles.
I don't think I have ever seen a game where gym leaders from 3rd to 8th, without skipping any, are all difficult.

Eri of team star gave me a lot of trouble
The Fighting Starmobile was able to max out its Speed and I totally forgot I had Clear Smog until then so I had an unnecessarily hard time with her too lol
I think the Team Star Quest was definitely the hardest quest line in general before Area Zero. Those starmobiles are a different beast altogether.
The fight in legends arceus is hard even if your pokemon level are in the 90s. It took days to beat him with all legendaries including arceus. I beat Cynthia first try. In both games. Shes definitely the 2nd hardest of all time

That goes the same for me i did beat Red in both gold/silver and remakes and Cynthia in one go, Whitney however did posed a roadblock for me for a bit
I dunno why people whine about Miltank. If you can get friendship super high on an evolved Golbat right before the fight then you can easily win with Cross Poi/Conf Ray
1v1ed hydreigon with Mushuana. Lucky to get hidden power fighting. Hydreigon for some reason is not carrying a dark type move.

1)volo
2)cynthia(bdsp without the affection thing that ruins the game)
3) usum guzma(since the first encounter he can be annoying if you are not preperad because he has a fully ev-trained team with good natures)
4)ghetchis from bw2 hard mode
5)iris bw2 hard mode
Hard mode is a joke. It has a glitch where the levels increase actually dont increase the stats. Of you are playing nuzlockes, its literally easier.
It took me 2 hours real time to beat cythia in bdsp. Hardest battle ever

Mega garchomp is honestly pretty mid, the loss of speed destroys it's speed tiering, and it already has enough dmg to ohko without the mega

@@lamptowel that’s the thing, they probably wouldn’t give you any megas outside of maybe the kanto and hoenn starters before the post game (just like with LGP/LGE)
@@ypob2007 it's way easier to play around an ai though, you could lose 2 maybe to trade for the mlucario, idk maybe Alakazam Gengar would do enough, maybe burn from infernape would help survivability

Cynthia is way overrated and definitely not as hard as gsc red, volo, or even emerald Steven.
True. I mean, her fight is hard, but is not NEARLY as hard as most of the people make it out to be. She's still a challenge, but she's easily, eaaaaaaaaaaaasily the most overrated battle in the entire franchise
I think it's more that the difficulty spike is steep rather than it being high.
You can breeze through most of DP with your brain off, but if you haven't at least somewhat learned how to play the game (or over leveled) by the time you get Cynthia then she can potentially punish you pretty hard.
For players who were young at the time that's an experience that sticks out in your memory more than the objective details of how good she actually was.
@@IronicHavoc Pretty sure that has to be it; the nostalgia that sticked to most people. That might be the reason why I didn't feel it was THAT hard the first time I faced, mostly because I was like one of two people that chose Turtwig as their starter, and ran a Leech Seed, Synthesis, EQ Wood Hammer for the fight that got a 1v1 against most of her team. That might be the reason why I think it is overrated since I had no trouble with her. Lucian tho
I'm pretty sure that this fight is hard if you chose Chimchar, which most of the people did.
Also, to keep the fight hard they had to up the difficulty in the remakes, so people wouldn't complain I guess
Absolutely not overrated. Her team is well-rounded and had the highest level for a Champion in the Diamond/Pearl up to that point. It's a hard fight, hands down.

lmfao wrong red is stronger and harder and originally had moves that were really good combos in gold/silver
Gen 2 Red is one "big" trainer battle I never managed to win. I tried, but at about a 10 or 15 level deficit, because the grinding required to match his levels in the original gen 2 games is staggering. Kanto's trainer battles don't even get you close. I did defeat him in SoulSilver, even with a similar level disadvantage.
