The old goofy orks were amazing, same as WHFB were you could lose because your orcs decided to brawl among themselves and your goblins been eaten by their pets, flattened by a high goblin with a demolition ball and just run
Oldhammer is the besthammer. If you won, it was great, but even if you lost, getting there was a blast. I just don’t understand the mindset that wants to min-max their army lists, sucking all the fun out of what should be storytelling, not winning at all costs.
@@robinblackmoor8732 same, I also had a tie with a skavens player because he blew up almost his entire army while mine was fighting and running. It is still one of my fondest Warhammer memories
@@gosonegrIt was fun. I had a group I played with. The Orc guy had the worst luck in some games. It was so much fun. I mostly played Ultra Marines. This is one of those games where even if you don't win, it is fun when things go sideways. I did play Orcs in Epic a lot. That was a fun game too.
I do hope they reprint Khorne's Stormboyz. This was from before Stormboyz had jump packs and were just organized orks (still with the same, uh, aesthetic of the later ones though.) It was in an old issue of White Dwarf along with the normal stormboyz.
Back in the early 90s, my brother played Orks while I played Eldar. Since he was a bit younger than myself, I painted his army. I painted his squad of Ork Kommandos in a traditional camo pattern. However, I DID pick out the little Swiss army knives on their belts! Silver, a red side, and a little white cross. Yes, that cross was molded in!
The old lore was that by the 41st millennium the boltgun was such basic technology and had been mass produced on such a huge scale that it was widely available anywhere in the galaxy, so even Orkz could easily obtain them. It made more logical sense than modern Orkz magic sluggaz, but less fun I guess.
I just got the idea that either they were using boltguns, or that they were firing custom-made weapons that were directly comparable to boltguns in sheer recoil, size and power, so it had a similar weapon profile regardless
The real reason was money. If everyone (except Eldar) drove around in Rhinos, you could buy a couple Rhinos and be done. If Tau need hover fish and you can't glue the extra bolters from orks onto your Guard officers, well, you'll just have to buy more stuff I guess, oh my.
Wish they would release the classic Stormboyz like this, they were always my favourite. I've long since lost my Commandos so I'll definitely pick them up via made-to-order.
I definitely found this video entertaining for sure watching you paint up 2nd edition Ork Kommandos. There uniforms sure are bright red and definitely wouldn’t be seen in the battlefield for sure 😂
@@Miniscape-wh40kI always felt the same about my painting. But for the last three years, I've entered my local GW Christmas secret Santa competition. Unfortunately for GW those appeared the same day as photos of the upcoming Lego galaxy framed art, so sorry boyz, you got outbid...
I'm almost always nostalgic for Made to Order stuff until I see the prices they set on it. Would I get a set at $40? Probably, yes. Is it more likely to be $50-60 and at that point I'd rather buy a different plastic kit that's easier to alter or kitbash or customize or expand by continuing a paint-scheme? Alas, the answer is yes.

I don't play orks, but I'm going to budget in a set of those kommandos just to show GW that people will buy Epic/2nd era stuff if you reprint it (and if you don't, someone will probably make STLs, so you might as well be the ones getting the teef for it, right?). If they redid the original pattern vest and helmet Guard, I'd probably use my entire year's hobby budget on them.
