- When substituting yarns, you likely know that a gauge swatch is necessary. Sometimes though, you can meet stitch count and not match row gauge. When is that row gauge important?
Kelsey walks through when you need to be concerned about row gauge and when it's ok to not match it, provided of course that your stitch gauge is correct. With a couple of specific examples, this video will help you know when you can substitute yarns with confidence.

Thanks, Kelsey- as a long time knitter of pieced garments and accurately measured directions, I find myself more and more careful about yokes and such. My row gauge is significantly longer (fewer rows) making longer mittens, deeper beanies, finally realizing this consistency in myself!
Thanks for the information😊
Thank you for your tips 👌🙏💝🤩
I guess I never thot about when u sustitute yarn the row gauge can b way off even if the stitch gauge is correct. This makes a lot of sense & now I'll remember that ("trick") useful piece of info when changing yarn in a paticular pattern. I can see how inches vs rows (rnds) is important!
I like these short info sessions u do (even in the regular podcast). I'm learning a lot. Some things I "know how to do" but not always "why" I need to do it that way. Really interesting!
Thank you, Kelsey. I appreciate your help and expertise ☺️
I just appreciate your knitting tips so much, Thanks !
This was helpful! :)
If a pattern gives you gauge, and only gives you the number of rows to knit, you can calculate the inches with the gauge. Therefore, you would know the inches per row but would have to calculate it yourself.
