Thank you for shedding light on such a genuine, kind, loving, accepting regardless of your disabilities and abilities, community. As a sister of a brother who had Down syndrome (RIP Matt), I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for those guys and cheering them on. You have no idea how bad I wish to omit the negative stigma society has on the special needs community. There is so much to learn from them

Growing up, one of my friends was an older boy with downs syndrome, man we had so much fun together, and he will always have a special place in my heart. He taught me from a young age, that being different is ok, and he taught me about love and acceptance. I miss him.

So my little brother is severely autistic and isn't much of an athlete at all. In our household we always make sure to praise him for walking faster than usual, haha. But in all seriousness, I'm an aspiring special education teacher and have worked with kids that made it to nationals in the Special Olympics. Watching them work hard to achieve their goals is what makes me want to wake up in the morning. Seeing so many people volunteer for things like this is beautiful and I wish it was happening more. So I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you to anyone who is involved with making the Special Olympics be what it is today

As some who doesn't comment much on videos I'm commenting on this one because it hits right at home. I've grown up with 3 people in my family with Speical Needs and I volunteer at my high school as a teachers aide in one of the Special Ed classrooms. I'm going to be a senior this year and I love it and I'm actually volunteering for the special ed summer program this year to help out. And this makes me so happy that people care for these kids and would love to cheer them on and encourage them. I actually want to go to college for special ed and get my masters in it. I hope the Special Olympics will grow so much in our world from this point on.

I coached Special Olympics volleyball for 3 years through my college and I loved it. Interacting with the athletes was the highlight of my day and I consider many of them friends. They aren't kidding when they say that Special Olympics is the center of their social universe. I had the joy of watching many of our athletes grow friendships and relationships and even get married. I know there are many college students who watch this channel, so if you don't have a Special Olympics volunteer organization at your school, consider starting one. Trust me, it's worth the work and you can really make a difference.

I love this video! My aunt participated in the Special Olympics in Tucson, Arizona. I loved going to cheer her on. The thing I loved the most when we would go was seeing every participant cheering each other on. They didn't care about teams of groups. They were all in it together. Hannah, you are such an inspiring person, and I want to say thank you for all of these wonderful things to do for your community. They may seem like small impacts that you're making, but really, these things are huge. A lot of people in the world only care about themselves. They walk right past the volunteer people collecting money for good causes and don't even think about putting a few cents toward people in need. And it's amazing to see people like you making the world a little brighter.
I'm in Leo Club (leadership, experience, opportunity) at my high school, which is a smaller version of the Lions Club. (Liberty, intelligence, our nations safety) I think it's a worldwide organization. I really enjoy helping others and volunteering. It feels good. And when I see you doing these things and helping out (and also showing the world that you are more than a hilarious drunk girl making food), it gives me hope. You are a great role model. Thank you for HAHD. 💕💖☀️

    Hey Hannah!
I just wanted to write a thank you to you for making a video about such a great cause! This cause is actually very close to my heart because my sister has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, meaning she has trouble walking, talking, eating, and drinking while also having occasional seizures. But, she participated in the East coast special Olympics this year and I was her unified partner. She said she had the best weekend of her life, spending time with me, her friends with other special needs, and participating in a sport where she could actually play. She absolutely adores you! She and I love your cooking videos and all of your Have a Heart videos. She always ends up laughing so much when she watches your videos! So, when she was browsing your channel today, she found this and immediately showed me. You have absolutely made her and my day for giving such a wonderful cause some time in the spotlight. As a big sister of someone with special needs, I want to say thank you for being such a wonderful, understanding, and caring person. I hope your book release is extremely successful!
    Thank you again,
    -Anna

I had the opportunity when I was in the 8th grade to volunteer with my girls basketball team at the local event for Special Olympics. Thank you for highlighting such a special event....I first volunteered for Special Olympics in high school and loved every minute! All that is required is a smile, some words of praise and encouragement and maybe a hug or two. I encourage everyone to volunteer and join in the fun. Thanks for bringing this to your channel!

I have no idea if anyone will see this, but I don't care. This was such an amazing video, my sister is an athlete with Special Olympics. I don't know why, but to see you go out there and cheer the athletes on really got to me. The athletes are amazing people, and I think you have helped some people understand that. Thank you so much for volunteering and documenting it. It means the world to my sister when someone she doesn't know cheers for her and wants her to do her best. Thank you so much for this!

I know too how much of an influence Special Olympics can have on you and the way you see the world. I have coached Special Olympics for three years and I went to my first State Summer games in Mount Pleasant Michigan this past June and it was the most amazing thing I have ever done. Keep up the amazing work you're doing Hannah and thank you :)

thank you so much for this video Hannah!! my brother participates in the special Olympics. he is in the Autism spectrum. he is awesome. The special Olympics is just a emotional day for my family and I bc we are so proud of him and he looks so happy. It's emotional because of the fact we aren't the only family living with a member that has special needs bc it can be very very hard sometimes. That's what all the families have in common that we will have hard times and good times with them. We all have our own stories with them and we love them so much. thank you so much!! 💕

This makes my heart so happy. I have been working with kids with special needs for years and they really just need someone to be positive toward them. I know that you guys going to this event meant the world to them. Literally, you are probably their heroes now. Thanks Hannah for organizing this!

I did Special Olympics when I was in 11th and 12th grade. I did Cross-Country Skiing 100 ft and 500 ft dashes. I earned bronze, silver, gold medals over the two years. I've had arthritis in 30+ joints since I was 8 years old. Participating in the S.O. was extremely rewarding, but there's a lot of stereotyping towards the S.O. A lot of people make jokes about it and it's made me not share these accomplishments with a lot of people. For a long time, I threw my medals into a box and didn't show them and was embarrassed if my mom boasted about my wins.
Now, 12-13 years later when I hear someone joke about the S.O. I look them in the eye and say, "I did the Special Olympics in high school." Most of the people look instantly sorry. There's a stereotype that only mentally challenged individuals participate, but it's for anyone with a disability, be it mental or physical. I use the opportunity to teach people about the S.O. and hopefully get them to stop making jokes about it.
Hannah, seeing you support them and go out to an event is incredible. Seeing all that excitement brought me back to my racing days. Thank you for spreading the word about the Special Olympics.

i did, and I'm disabled. i thought it was kind of cringe worthy. i know Hannah tried though and I'm not gonna fault her for that. i just kind of felt that this could have been done better.

    • @josephinev.catlady5182
      @josephinev.catlady5182 8 лет назад +5

Well at least she's trying to bring awareness so they can get more volunteers and so other disabled ppl know it's out there. I personal loved seeing all the happy faces and anything on RUclips could be better but at least she has a good heart and it's not something stupid.

+OurPeanutGallerie Great question. My son and daughter are mentally disabled and i find it amazing she cares about important things and her channel isnt about just drinking cooking but awareness to other ppl and their lives.
