If I could bring back only one smell from the 70s it would have to be the original Clairol Herbal Essence shampoo. Anyone who remembers it knows what I mean.
Yes, I agree. Also the Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific.
I used both and I agree about the scents!! I also had a solid perfume in a compact the smelled like clover
Jr. High dance, first kiss, Stairway to Heaven playing and that fragrance in the air. I'll never forget that moment.
I was thinking the same!
Umm. Yep. So agree.
The smell of the mimeograhed test papers will always stay with me!
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories!
I remember the smell too.
We would always smell them in school when the teacher handed them out!
I was an obedient student so I always got chosen to put the mimeographed papers together. Free buzz.

I’m so glad I was young in the 70’s.
Thank you for watching Debi!
We did grow up in a wonderful time. If only we had a time machine.😊
The 1970s and 1980s were the best times. Things are now brutally vacuous, prurient, degenerate and iniquitous.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the smell of the Shampoo “ GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC!” “AGREE” Shampoo smelled really nice and so did “Jean Nate”
In high school I was sitting in the bleachers in the gym and my friend was sitting about 2-3 seats above me and she said, " Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific! LOL
I remember a comedienne saying that the makers of "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" was planning on created a line of feminine hygene products. 😲
Jean Nate after bath body splash, I forgot all about that!!
Dolls on Christmas morning always had a distinctive smell.🎄 👧 🎁
Yes!!!!! We always got dolls for Christmas and it was the best smell ever!
Yes! They were Vanilla Scented! I had totally forgotten that.😊
@@sandydee8003i dont remember vanilla scents (which sounds awesome btw) but i think it was the newborn/preemie edition of the cabbage.patch dolls i had....their little bald heads smelled of baby powder lol. I loved it
Absolutely loved that smell
@@paulyledrew4498 Yes They Did I was just telling my Teenage daughter this!!! Christmas was so special for me. I always loved the smell of my plastic dolls🥰 out of the Christmas wrapper
To me, the smell of Noxema means one thing-sunburn, usually a bad one…
Oh yes that too ..
My mom used Noxema every night until she passed in 2004. That smell definitely reminds me of her.
👍🏻👍🏻
Yes!!
Yes! It was cooling though!
That picture of everybody in the classroom smelling the mimeograohed paper cracked me up. We all did it.
We did it too! The teacher would have a stack of freshly-ditto’d papers with purple ink and said take one and pass the rest. I swear every kid took one and immediately held it up to their face! LOL!
I remember the joy of smelling those copies with purple ink. The teacher would make the master copy with a kind of thick carbon paper with purple ink.
I'm pretty sure that particular photo is from the movie "Fast Times at Richmond High".
The smell of ditto sheets, I'll never forget. I can smell it now!
Smelt so good and sometimes warm
Remember being allowed to go outside and play after a thunderstorm. The smell of fresh rain hitting hot pavement in the sweltering summer. That's when kids used to play outside and not stuck on video games!
We actually lived outside skipping lunch & continuing to ride our bike all over the neighborhood & then some.. I truly can't remember being inside ever in the Summer we definitely didn't miss dinner & off we went again!! A neighbor had a 26 Ft. Round pool 2 doors down & we were allowed to swim in that amazing pool anytime!! There were not many families that could afford such a huge pool with a deck like that back in the early 70's
I grew up in the country so it always smelled like wet dog but we still played outside after the rain.
That smell actually has a name - petrichor.
I can actually smell the scent of everything you talked about. It is crazy how our brain remembers things.
Smells are our oldest memories!
60's, and 70's were the best times for kids to grow up !
Thank you for watching!
Big Bell Levi's , denim not courderroy and black platform boots
You bet!
Yes ! We hitchhiked & skinny dipped,, we were the last of the little rascal generation kids are nerds today
Not really, the 70s had a lot of child abductions kids went missing all the time and most never found . And then you had the serial killer trend. some of the most well known murderers in America all from the 70s. It was a cool era for music ngl
Oh the memories. If only I could time travel back to the 70’s and 80’s. I have never felt so strongly about that than now with the way things are today.
Can I please come along? 😄
Oh, how I completely agree! I am so nostalgic for my youth. I love reminiscing about those years, but it is always bittersweet, as I so wish I could go back! 😢
Me too.
If you find a way, let me know!
I never thought I'd long for even the 90s!
Who remembers Wind Song perfume? That was such a popular perfume back in the 70's. New Doll Smell was one of the best smells outside of New Car Smell! My older siblings had a Thingmaker. That was the coolest thing and definitely had a distinct smell. Sadly, I can't handle fragrances anymore (probably not helped due to all the toxic chemicals in things back then) but I can still enjoy the "memory scents".
I remember Windsong! Years later, I still wear it.
“ Your wind song stays on my mind” 😊
“I can’t seem to forget youuuuu….your windsong stays on my miiiiiind…”
Jajajaja I remember!
And Heaven Scent....
The Clairol Herbal Essence shampoo smell from the 70's was incredible!
I ordered a bottle of oil off eBay that they said smelled like the original Herbal Essence shampoo. I was so happy to discover that it actually did. Every so often, I take it out to enjoy
I loved Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific....so good! I ordered some from a catalog awhile back ...maybe 10 years ago and it just wasn't the same.
𝚆𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚊 𝚋𝚊𝚕𝚜𝚊𝚖 𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚋𝚊𝚕 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚊 𝚐𝚘𝚘𝚍 𝚘𝚗𝚎
@Toni B. I loved that shampoo and the smell was great
I remember that smell. It smelled very green.
I was a kid in the 1960s and 1970s, entering high school in 1978. There was NEVER a better time to be a kid and there is NOTHING I'd take in trade for the years of my youth. 😃
Ditto
God bless! true!
Same here 😃
so true! i believe i was truly blessed to grow up in those two eras.
Same it was the greatest!
The Sears Christmas Wish Book! It would arrive on our doorstep in the winter - it always seemed to be on a day with fresh snow. You'd have to shake the snow off of it before you brought it in and it crackled when you opened it but it had a distinctive smell.
There was a shampoo called, "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" It smelled like strawberry's. It left your hair very soft and the smell hung around for the full day.
Not strawberry, another good smell.
Loves Baby Soft and all of the Avon Fragrances ( Sweet Honesty, Candid) were classics that extended well into the 80's.
Hawaiian White Ginger scent and Spicy for men.
Avon is selling some of the classics once again. Sweet honesty, I bought a bottle of candid, timeless, and topaz. There's a couple of other classics they're selling.
Love's Baby Soft is a fragrance that I am trying to remember. In about 6th or 7th grade, I had a girlfriend that use to wear it all the time. It would
always cause me to remember the first puppy love / crush and trying to sneak a kiss in the hallway between classes ! Such a sweet, sweet time !
I remember Loves Baby Soft and I don't think it was Avon but I remember Wind Song perfume. I bought it for my mom one Christmas.😊
🎶 I can't seen to forget you
Your Windsong stays on my miiiind
Can we just pause and appreciate how cool 1970’s packaging and type fonts were?
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Yeah I'm the perfect age to appreciate all of this at 52
yes.
51 here and I agree. I had a young person say to me that they don't care for it because it's not nostalgic for them. I can understand that. So it takes a special kind of young person to see the 70's style as cool instead of decrepit.
I was designing toy packages in the mid-70's for Mego. The fonts were pretty crazy for proprietary toys, but since we did a lot of superhero and Star Trek toys, their logos were, of course, already set.
I thought of one that I think was missed: Ten-O-Six lotion. It was a brown liquid in a clear bottle and very astringent. The smell was unique
I remember that
Right!
Oh yeah...Bonnie Bell!
I loved 10-06 lotion.
Ohhh ten-o-six, my mom used that LOL, ya with a cotton ball they would sit in the bathroom trash basket and smell the whole room up hahahaha
I always loved the smell of the inside of a brand new little golden book as a child.
And was shocked to discover that freshly printed money has the same scent!
Paste! Who here remembers the wonderful smell the white paste we used in kindergarten?✊😁 Or the smell of the old Fun with Dick and Jane books we used to learn to read with?
paste, mine smelled like wintergreen 75% .
Or brand new crayons.
@@pjc7351 Yeh the paste had a stick spreader attached to the top.
Rubber Cement in Art Class!
It smelled minty!
I always remember the smell of the tiny little Avon lipstick testers, since my best friends mom was an Avon lady.
Omg! I remember those. The colors were always so bright and bold. Did you know Elvis's mother gladys loved Avon and you can see some avon lipstick testers in a bowl on her dresser inher bedroom at Graceland. Elvis wore Avon cologne too!
Thx for that reminder ! My Mom wore Avon , I swiped the samples 😅
I had a few of those! My aunt sold Avon, and always had them laying around. I was a kid, but felt so grown up when I got to use them. 😊
I miss Come Summer perfume by Avon
@@SusanChristmas Are you sure? I liked soft musk but after smelling it again (an avon rep had a bottle at a market/fair last summer) I thought to myself, wow - my body chemistry must have changed because that does not smell good! It's either that or the perfume was old or more likely, I've developed a fondness for more subtle perfumes. The one that never changed for me though was Gucci #1. Whenever I find a vintage bottle, no matter how old - it smells so good on me that both men and women ask me what I'm wearing. Now that I think about it, never mind - hope you find a bottle and it smells as good as you remember!
The smell of the glass hot lightbulbs on fresh Christmas trees. The smell of fresh copies from the ditto machines. I remember everything you mentioned as a 60s kid
OH YES ON THE CHRISTMAS light bulbs!
That dark green bottle of Herbal Essence shampoo was heavenly. I've never stopped longing for it. GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC was another favorite.
The smell of the decade for those of us who were kids in school has to be freshly printed mimeograph paper.
It tasted awful. 🤣🤣🤣
Mixed with bad BO.
It's fascinating how spoken words about smells can trigger our memory of how some things tasted or smelled.
Flex shampoo and conditioner. Jontue, Heaven Scent, and Tabu cologne. Bonnie Bell did a compact with three different scents like jasmine, honeysuckle, etc. The smell of paste is also memorable.
I used Flex. I had great long hair, and the chicks loved it. 😉
@@johnwilliams1223, Flex was actually a decent product!
Heaven Scent still smells nice. K-Mart sold it before they closed.
L’Origan and Wind Song
@@DontStepInTheGrease, now considered a classic scent. 🙃
As a girl I had a cap gun but it was so poorly made, it couldn't advance past the spent cap & refire, so I unrolled the strip of gunpowder dots & struck them with a rock. Love that smell.
I remember that green glass bottle of Campho-Phenique liquid antiseptic. My mom would "go for the campho" for every scratch, sore, bite, or burn.
With us it was Bactine. I vaguely remember the red iodine too. Was 6 and had tonsils out, I had to slowly breathe ether to be put to sleep for anesthesia. Horrible smell. When my mom would polish furniture w Scott's liquid gold, I couldn't stand it. Smelled like the ether.
CamphoPhenique is still available
@@deedeemooreco.2304 I have some 😆
That or iodine, we definitely had a different an I believe better world
@@deedeemooreco.2304 Is the bottle glass or plastic?
For me the best smell of the 1970s was the newsstand where I bought my comic books. The smell of newsprint, magazines, comic books, paperbacks, candy, unlit tobacco.
Those were some great smells! Thank you for watching and sharing some more.
I just read an old Jack Kirby "New Gods" comic and it still had that 70's smell, lol
I remember the smell of Sweet Honesty. It was similar to Love's Baby Soft, but more intense.
Omg I uesd to wear that lol. I forgot all about it.
Scratch n sniff stickers were so fun at school! I miss Flex, Agree, Vidal Sassoon, Wella Balsam and other shampoos and conditioners so much and I wish they’d bring them back because I would stock up for sure. I recently bought my granddaughter some Loves Babysoft and Heaven Scent colognes but she hasn’t used them at all so I just smell them occasionally and reminisce about the magic and wonders of growing up in the 70s and 80s. I so wish the world was still sane like it was back then! My childhood was spent outdoors on my bike, my rollerskates, playing hide and seek, swimming and creating our own fun. I am blessed to have had those days.
Sounds like we had the same childhood! 😀
The scent of opening a new album is STILL my favorite scent.
❤
Hey just going to check out the new records (that's what they were called, not vinyls) was exciting. I remember getting my first Beatles white album, it was so good.
👍
@@lindamills6192 And replaying "I Will" over and over, thinking that that most stunningly simple, but beautiful love song was the lovliest thing you had ever heard. Still one of my all-time favorites!
Born in 1963.I remember the 60's,70's and 80's as I was growing up.All of my senses are still in my memory of these times.
Dame here!! ☮️
Me too! 😎
Great time to grow up!
I'm another one! Best time to grow up!
1963 me too!
I remember asking my mom to buy me the 64 color crayons when I was in elementary school, these were such a big deal back then.
OMG!! They most definitely were a huge deal back then.. We were semi poor only my Dad worked at the time mainly because my Mother couldn't speak English very well.. So on that note obviously just one income & I personally always thought that the kid's who had the Deluxe Jumbo Trumbo Crayola's were Rich!! Amazing what our minds think when we're so young& naive!! I loved growing up in the 70's Best memorable times of my life I could write a book about my adventures I was considered kind of wild 😂😅😄😅
Nothing like the smell of a fresh new box of Crayola!
Yeah! The big box with the sharpener built in.
My mom bought me the 64 box crayons I took to school on my first day of kindergarten 1973.I felt so special😆
Born in ‘63. You’ve captured so many smells of my child/teen hood! The fresh ditto pages were the best. A smell and feel that can never be duplicated. So glad you put that in here.
Anyone remember how good ColorForms smelled? I was so excited to see them back in stores about 20 years ago, I ended up buying a set; I was supremely disappointed that the didn’t smell the same.
Wow. Just hit me with a huge sensory memory. I loved the smell of those. And you’re right… bought some for my grandsons and they are not even in the same ballpark.
yes!!!!❤
Loved those so much! Thanks for the memory Maryanne! 😊
Yeh...a plasticy type of smell, I liked it.
Yes!! Had the KISS Colorforms and the smell is total summer ‘79!

My grandfather was an old spice man, I still love the smell of play dough at 60 years old. The best was the smell of popcorn popping at the local Woolworth.
My dad always wore Brute. I still love that smell.
Remember jiffy pop popcorn you made on the stove.
Grandpa wore aqua velvet!
This is so true. I was walking downtown in the late 1980's and I smelt a perfume in the crowd that my high school girlfriend used to wear in the early 1970's. It took me right back to that time in my life. It was very nostalgic.
I Really Miss the 70's. My Childhood. The best TV, Music & even some Movies. Help Us All. Bring the 70's Back.
I’m a child of the 1970’s. This checks all the nostalgia boxes for me.
Thank you for a wonderful trip back to the 1970s! 😊
All the musk perfumes and colognes, but mostly Coty’s Wild Musk Perfume Oil. I wish Coty would bring that back.
I loved that perfume. My mom liked it too and she would sprinkle it on lightbulbs. When the lights came on the smell was heavenly.
The plastic smell of the accessories in Ideal Growing hair dolls like Chrissy or Velvet was so distinctive. Occasionally I'll buy a comb or plastic toy that smells like that, but it's not often.
I still have my Chrissy doll and she's in good shape.
@@sharonholmes6083 Jealous! I loved those dolls.
I graduated high school in 73. Heaven scent perfume is one smell I will never forget. Love it still, very difficult to find now if not impossible.
Heaven scent smelled like baby powder. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
My aunt wore it all the time. I found some for her online a few years ago.
Did you watch The Exorcist when released in theaters after Christmas?
My first perfume! Received it for Christmas around 1971. Still recall the scent!
@@leegrigoris863 Do you still have it?
Lemon Pledge, the furniture polish that my Mom always brings back memories for me!!
They still have lemon pledge
When I smell lemon Pledge, I always get an image of when I was a child in the 1970's,my sister polishing the furniture on a Saturday, for some reason.
I bought a candle the other day kit reminded me of my Mom using Lemom Pledge
Yes My Mom Dolores always used Lemon Pledge. Loves the scent of it. I use it today. Following my Mom's tradition of using "Lemon Pledge".
@@oooh19 Of course they do
I remember the smell of Shrink-E-Dinks toys "baking" in the oven, the yummy smell of the paste my Mom used when hanging wallpaper, and Emeraude perfume.
We had a plastic pumpkin for trick-or-treating that had a very distinctive smell inside. I think Easter grass also had a smell. Others have said paste, and I’ll add Johnson &Johnson baby shampoo, Vicks vapo rub, lemon pledge, and my grandpa’s pipe.
I love the vinegar smell of coloring Easter 🐰🐣🌷 ✝️ eggs.
I remember buying "Agree" shampoo just for the scent,I loved it! I was a teenager in the 70's,great time!
I still remember the smell of Prell shampoo. We could never have Agree because my mother used Prell so we had to use it also.
I always had two favorite shampoos which were Gee, your hair smells terrific & Yucca Dew.
My mom used Prell, still remember the smell, and it was green.I bought Agree with my babysitting money becuz I wanted to smell like it,lol.
I loved Body On Tap, but Agree runs a close second. I believe The Vermont Country Store sells or did sell Agree.
Lemon Up & Finesse
Love's scent was unmistakable. Remembering so many forgotten products from the 70's, thank you! One other not included was Musk oil perfume! How many remember that?
Yep.
Oh yes, I loved it soo much

I loved the jovan musk!!
Love's Baby Soft and Heaven Scent were my favorite perfumes when I was a kid in the 70s. I remember all these smells! This is nostalgia at its finest! Thank you so much!!! ❤

This was GREAT. Does anyone remember fruit scented stationery that had gingham patterns?🍓🍇🍋🍊
Yes, and scratch and sniff stickers and scented erasers.
Does anybody remember the soap bars that had a tiny plastic toy in the center?
@@tammylewis9324 Unfortunately,never heard of that..Sounds very interesting
@@beezertwelvewashingbeard8703 I remember having scented pens, and the smell of the ink combined with the fruit scents was so distinctive.
No, I don't remember that, but I do remember scented stationery in general. I also had several different types of colored stationery when I was a kid. It's something that's sort of obsolete, now.
Not only do I remember the smell of the film but also the smell of the ice cube flash you had to stick on top! 😂
So annoying. You could only take 4 flash photos, then you had to take off the cube and replace it with a new one before you could take another 4 flash photos. How did we EVER deal with those Kodak Instamatic cameras?!! Lol...
I loved the smell of those cubes, hated the smell of the instant Polaroid film.
Magicubes were better, you could take them apart and set off the bulbs without any electrical current
@@serenatwilite4005 Your comment brought back memories of the old pull and peel Polaroid films. If I recall, on pulling apart the emulsion had a somewhat fishy odor.
Tres Boujay, I remember those cube flashes, my dad had them all the time. But when microwaves came out, it didn't take long for kids to realize the true thrill of that flash. Pop one into the microwave and wait, in about 5 seconds it would trigger all 4 sides to flash at once..lol that's another thing, growing up meant getting into things. There wasn't all the worry and fear there is now. I was born in '61 and I remember all these things.
I loved the smell of Prell Shampoo. I still use Prell, but I Really miss the Prell Concentrate. They quit making it years ago. Wish they'd bring it back.
It's strange how smells can take you back. School was never fun for me, so I always dreaded the first day. There was absolutely a smell. Old books, paper, ditto sheets, even rulers had a smell.
When I took my son to his first day, I got a whiff of the distinct
smell and my heart started pounding. Fortunately, he loved school.
Doll's hair always had a distinctive smell that I loved! Gosh, I miss those days! It's miraculous how our brains file away these smells and scents. I could remember most of these smells with just the mention of them. Great Video! Thank you!
I posted the same thing!. First thing I do is smell doll's hair when I've brought first my daughter and now my granddaughters. It doesn't smell the same. I still smell the hair of dolls when I see them in antique stores looking for that smell.
Oh i absolutely loved "gee your hair smells terrific". 😎

The smell of coppertone reminds me of my childhood when we would go to the beach 🥰
The smell of cover girl liquid makeup. When I was finally able to wear makeup this was the brand I bought. The color Ivory.
Yes! Coppertone had the best smell of all suntan lotions.
Yes, Coppertone! Philosophy’s Amazing Grace reminds me of it! When I 1st smelled it I bought a bottle coz it reminds me of the beach!
I had long hair in the 70’s, and I washed it with Flex Shampoo. It had such a distinctive smell to it. It’s one of the smells of the 70’s I remember.
Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories of the 70s John!
Me too. Revlon Flex Conditioner. For years now I've been asking them to bring it back. It worked and smelled better than anything I've ever used. Nothing else like that scent.
I was born in the 1960’s this was a blast from the past…. So many I had forgot…. What a pleasant re-wind! Thank you for the memories. The good old days are definitely gone!
I remember my grandfather smelled like Absorbine Jr and Listerine. Love's Baby Soft cologne and my favorite perfume Anais Anais. Sea Breeze astringent had a great smell. I never used it but remember the commercials for Enjoli - "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan, and never, never let you forget you're a man..."
I just got some Love’s Baby Soft and Skin Musk from Rite Aid the other day. Amazon carries like a beauty supply size of Sea Breeze. I picked up their Amazon brand version of it, it smells nice.

The one thing I didn’t see was something else I used as a child. Tinker Bell cosmetics for girls. They had a little powder compact, nail polish and chapstick. I remember a lot of the products listed and used a lot of them. Thanks for being back my childhood memories
I loved getting the Tinkerbell sets! Especially the lotion and bubble bath.
Bonne Bell Lip Smackers were another one for girls. There were so many flavors, mine was watermelon and my best friend loved pineapple/coconut.

I enjoyed those products. I had the perfume and a couple colours of the brush on peel off nail polish.
I was soooo excited by the see through pink nail polish ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The old White Rain shampoo was great. Also, the Bonnie Bell lip smackers in the tin with the slide top
Somw things i remember that weren't mentioned: Aqua net. Moth ball scent on coats when it turned cooler and everyone pulled them out of storage. Grapette soda. Lava soap. Johnson and Johnsons no more tears detangler spray. Monkey blood disinfectant. Typewriter ink.

Zest and Tone soap, Aramis men's cologne, and Musk women's perfume....(I LOVED the musk perfume!) 😍
I know the smell of almost all of these. There was also Yardley of London,Strawberry Lip Smackers, and Dep styling gel.
Do you mean the O De London products? I loved Oh de London bath bubbles. There was lip gloss in light pink, blue and yellow!!!! There must have been some adventurous girls looking like ZOMBIES with those last two shades. Actually, this was in 1967 for that lip gloss.
my mom used to spread the 'love my carpet' powder all over the carpet prior to vacuuming and afterwards i'd crawl around the house sniffing the fresh carpet. i could still smell it today, i'm sure from all the residue still stuck up in the nethers of my olefactories 😆
🤣🤣🤣
In shag carpet that was either harvest gold, avocado green or burnt orange. We had a special carpet rake to fluff up the shag. 😂
I Loved the Original Herbal Essence Shampoo! Bring it back!
I totally agree, I loved the smell!!!🌿💚
The smell of Capt. Crunch's Crunch Berries will always take me back to my childhood. I don't think they smell or taste as powerful as they did in the day, but it's still there.
That's how I am with Fruit Loops cereal. The old movie theatre I used to frequent in NJ had a urinal cake or cleanser that smelled exactly like that cereal and sick as it sounds, the smell brought me back to my childhood. As for Captain Crunch, the entire line was my favorite cereal. Still is. My favorites were Plain, Peanut Butter and then Crunch Berry, with a thin margin placing them on my favorite to most-favorite ranking.
that's a good one that I forgot, thank you
No,they tasted MUCH better then I think.
@@bighuge1060 I don't know if you are, but I'm old enough to remember when Cap'n Crunch had a vanilla flavored cereal, called Vanilly Crunch, probably in the mid- to late '70s.
Always liked Cap'n Crunch, especially the Crunch Berries, but they really tear up the roof of your mouth...
I remember wearing my favorite Charlie perfume as a teenager in the seventies. I stuck with it because people said it smelled good on my skin. It's still around these days. :)
Body on Tap (shampoo with beer in it); Avon Sweet Honesty; Babe, Jontue and Enjoli perfumes; English Leather, and Jade East men's cologne; Aqua Velva; Williams 'Lectrosol after shaves, Vitalis hair tonic. I kept my Silly Putty in an empty film canister; They were good to keep a little change in, too. The plastic jack-o-lantern Halloween candy pails had a nice, sweet smell to them back in the 70's.
I loved the smell of musk perfume but my favorite smell of the 1970s was hashish.
When the teacher handed out mimeograph papers ( Everybody took a sniff off the papers ). I also remember the smell of the white paper paste when we did projects in school. Our sense of smell is very powerful indeed. Thanx for the memories. 👌

I was a Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific girl! Also love Ban de Soleil tanning jelly! My favorite cologne in the early 70's was called Blue Jeans. I would give anything to smell it again. 🥰
This was a surreal sensory-packed presentation for sure. My brain was actually smelling through memory the majority of these examples. It’s fascinating how many of these specific things or products we subconsciously store beyond immediate memory, then remember immediately upon sight.
Herbal Essence shampoo takes me back. I used to wash my hair with it. I'm grateful I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Soo much Fun! I had an groovy childhood!
Dippity-Do had a smell that i liked as a kid. I think this hair-setting product still exists but I’m sure it doesn’t smell the same as it did in the early 1970s
Thank you for watching and helping us to remember another item.
Ah yes, Dippity-Do I used it every night to straighten my bangs 😂
@@julenepegher6999 Despite it being over 50 years ago and my being four years old, I can remember my mother using Dippity-Do to set my cousin Sheila’s hair
I remember Dippity Do and the ads were cute.
I saw Dippity do at my local Big lots. My sister used it to set her Farrah hair style everyday with hot rollers. I dont think hot rollers are as big either.
The smell I remember the most is that pink soap powder they put in the dispensers in my grade school bathroom. When a kid threw up, the janitor would come along and sprinkle some on the puke to mask the smell(didn't really work). Also, the hot carbon paper from my LITE BRITE, the chemical smell of that green slime novelty toy that came in a plastic trash can, and the smell of cherry flavor Chap-Stick. To this day, the smell of summer for me is a mix of tan lotion, chlorine, and new-mown grass.
My girlfriend used to love halston perfume in HS in the 70s. l also loved the smell of vidal sassoon shampoo in those brown bottles. And all the Vita-bath products.
There was also the smell of Radio-Shack stores that was really memorable. I don't know why but they all smelled different from any other store. It might have been the the dark red carpet that lined their floors or the batteries and electronics, but it definitely is something that I miss.
Huh? Never heard or experienced this one. Maybe your local Radio Shack had an issue?
Prove me wrong. Please! ;)
I know exactly what you mean
Definitely the electronics smell. Now almost all new electronic items have a noxious, burning smell.
I think it was the smell of the cables or the vinyl and plastics used for things like headphones. Maybe it was the packaging. There was a Radio Shack a half block from where we live, we went a couple of times before it closed for good.
@@user-mv9tt4st9k I know it's going to sound a bit crazy, but while I didn't buy much from them, I still miss the old stores. Remember their "battery of the month" card?
Yes! Noxzema ❤ Charlie was my signature scent in junior high school. I wonder what it would smell like to me now 😂
My dad used Noxzema to shave with
I wore Charlie in jr. High too !
You know what? I just ordered a bottle of “Charlie Blue”, which is supposedly the original scent. 3.4 ounces for less than 9 bucks on sale 😍 I want to see if it smells like bug spray to my adult nostrils
Noxcrapia !
@@Vcaser do report back !
Two of my favorite smells were English Leather and Windsong. I also loved the smell of a new lunch box ( 60’s) and the smell of a new text book. I miss the 70’s.
You can still order "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" and Lemon up from the Vermont Country Store. In the 70's we wore "Babe" perfume/cologne and you could order that today too.
Those were the good old days & I'm grateful to be in my teens in the 70's.
There's a shampoo in a brown Vidal Sassoon bottle that smelled like cherries. It was amazing. Never smelled it again.
My gosh, I forgot all about that!! Yes, it was a nice shampoo.
Cherry Almond yes!
As I recall the VS shampoo was in a dark brown bottle and the conditioner was in a light brown bottle. I LOVED that cherry scent. My wealthier cousins used it so I always associated it with luxury. The design/marketing of those plastic brown bottles was genius.
That was one of my favorites! Also Flex shampoo and conditioner, Wella Balsam, Jerri Redding Milk n Honey, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific…..loved them all and would buy them now if they came back, especially Flex or Agree!
They still made it in 2015, popular abroad
I was hoping you would mention Herbal Essence Shampoo! I used that constantly. And Jean Nate! I loved this video!!! Thank you!
I have a photo of it in the video but didn't talk about it. Thank you for watching!
I’ve wondered why Herbal Essence doesn’t reintroduce their original scent.
I still love jean nate
And Revlon's "Aquamarine" shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. I, too, miss the original Herbal Essence dark green shampoo. It smelled wonderful.
My Mom wore Jean Nate splash, and my Dad wore Aqua Velva aftershave. That was in the 1950's and 60's. In the 1970's Mom wore Shalimar and Dad wore a horrible musk.
I had a summer job at a donut shop in the 70s and will never forget the smell of donut grease, mixed with cigarette smoke, mixed with coffee grounds..that not very pleasant scent is a strong memory! But my favorite 70s scent was from when we would visit relatives in early summer on an island...the salt air, mixed with the scent of wild roses and honeysuckle is the best combination of smells and takes me back to carefree vacation fun. This was a great video! Thank you for bringing those years back through scent! ❤
Finger paints! Kindergarten in 1969. Plus cracking into the school supplies on that first day of school! Loved " Gee your hair smells terrific" and "Agree"! I worked at a drug store and we sold all those good smelling products! Lol! Jovan Musk, Windsong, HI Karate, etc!
For many teen girls in the 70s, it was either Bonne Bell 10 0 6 astringent or my fav was Sea Breeze. But, def, the Clairol Herbal Essence original was my favorite smell of the 70s.
Loved all these! And watermelon lipsmackers. You can still find it, but it's more like fermented watermelon. Not the same. Not yummy.
10 0 6!!!! Haven't thought about that in years.
You can still get 10 0 6 and Sea Breeze!
I used Bonnie Bell. Was my favorite.
I loved going into hardware stores when I was a kid. I loved the smell. I still love that smell.
Nothing beats the smell of lumber! Thank you for watching!
Yessss
Our local store smelled like sawdust.
Yeh it smelled like wood mixed with peat moss.
I remember them smelling like a mix of rubber and WD-40.
I remember the scent of the 70s and early 80s lotion "Rose Milk"...that smell has stuck with me on up until today! I wish they'd bring it back...IMO it was the best smelling fragrant lotion ever...LOL!!
There was another lotion from the min 70's called "Raintree"- it smelled so good.
As a young teen in the 70's I remember strawberry lotion, strawberry shampoo and strawberry lip gloss. Also loved Love's baby soft, it was my fave!
Beauty products and fragrances that I loved in the 70s: Eau De Love, Love’s Fresh Lemon, Jovan Musk, Slicker Lipstick, Cover Girl liquid makeup, Cornsilk face powder, Flex shampoo and conditioner, Jergen’s lotion. One toy that I recall having a distinct smell was a hard plastic Duncan Yo-Yo, fresh from it’s packaging. When the first mall opened nearby, I remember the smoky-cheesy aromas from Hickory Farms, and also the sweet smell of their dried banana chips. The 1970s malls also had at least one leather shop, the leather goods had quite a distinctive smell. Usually, there was also at least one pseudo hippy-stoner shop, selling posters, tie dye clothing, etc. Most of these shops also carried a large variety of incense and essential oils, certainly more scents than I had ever experienced.
You can still get some of those things, it's a Vermont website they have some of them, the lemon 🍋 shampoo , gee you hair smells terrific, dif smell thought and teaberry gum , and clove gum
I just got some Jergen’s lotion with the original scent. Takes me right back to my mom’s kitchen. She kept it right on the counter.
Jovon Sex Appeal I loved it, smelled so good on me
Not sure if they've changed, but used to love the smell of brand new school books! 😁
And how good the school smelled on that first day back along with the bus.
Yes
That new doll smell! Dolls today don't even come close. Also the smell of all the vinyl toys, like Barbie's Country Camper, Matchbox cases and playsets, the smell of Colorforms and pool toys. Gift shops in tourist areas like Wisconsin Dells and Gatlinburg has that cedar smell because of many souvenirs made of cedar.
I'll never forget the smell of the plastic liner in an above ground pool. Bandaids had a smell back then too. Also, original Chap-Stik.
