Baby Joey was a doll modeled after the son of Mike and Gloria Stivic from All in the Family. It was marketed (briefly) as the world's first anatomically correct male doll.
There were many different dolls in the 70s with special features or abilities. These dolls were named Baby (and then whatever feature that made them special.) I had Baby This 'n That and Baby Come Back. Because I had older brothers, who were not gentle with my toys, neither doll's special features survived for long.
That was a great look back! I remember most of the toys. You are right, some of them were creepy but what really stood out to me was how they reek of programming. I love your sense of humor!
That "Great Moves" commercial starred three well known 70's TV actors: Roz Kelly (Pinky Tuscadero from Happy Days), Fred Berry (Rerun from What's Happening) and Peter Isaacson (from CPO Sharkey).
Hey! Wasn't that Rerun from What's Happenin'? with the whiteboard? I had an Inchworm ride-on when I was little. The plastic outer shell eventually broke away but the metal interior/support and wheels were still going strong. We played on that until we couldn't fit on it. Good times!
Does anyone remember the Straw That Broke The Camel's Back game? It had a plastic camel that was hinged in the middle and had little saddlebags that you put sticks into. Whoever added a stick that "broke" the camel's back lost. If i remember correctly, you either spun a dial or drew a card that told how many sticks you had to add.
Good Morning Rhett.🙋🏽 Some of those things I never heard of. But I HAD some of them. Thank you for sharing this with me. Have a awesome day ‼️😃👍🏽 I never realized just how creepy a lot of them were.
Wow, you always come up with the best things in your vintage videos. I don't remember many of these things, my first child was born in 1974 and then the next year we moved to Germany for three years so I was not in the loop for most of these toys. I remember a few but I don't remember buying any of them. Love seeing these videos!
I had the Ice Bird! It did NOT work! As hard as I scraped it, nothing happened. both of my parents even tried. All because they didn't want to buy me the more expensive Snoopy machine. So instead, they wasted money on something that didn't work.
I remember shaving my knuckles RAW trying to get that stupid thing to work....the Snoopy one was fun though. My nephew used to then 'sell his snow cones' on the corner for a nickel. Richard
Remember the Flying Turtle? It was a triangle shape close to the ground with wheels and handlebars that moved side to side to get it going fast. I rode that thing everywhere. I also thought you might have Stretch Armstrong in this compilation.
Having it with syrups really is the best way to go. We didn't have that but we did substitute kool-aid on them. Of course we also made Kool-Aid popsicles as well. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories my friend!
I had the Snoopy snowcone machine too and I never could get it to work right. I would struggle to grind down one ice cube for awhile and then just lose interest. 🤣
I was born in 1972 and this brought back many happy memories of my Jimmy JJ Walker doll that had a pull-string activated "Dyno-mite!" Or almost shooting my own eyes out with my giant Shogun Warrior figures.
Hi Rhetty. was just little in the 70's being born in 71. I remember that the older Boys would like to put together model kits..A line that seemed quite popular was Hollywood Monsters ie: Wolfman, Frankenstein and the Count plus others. Any thoughts on the popularity of all of the sudden?
The monster kits were mostly from a company called Aurora, and originally came out in 1960's. They were re-issued around 1974. Mainly movie, and TV models, a few originals in there like 'grave robber's reward'(you can probably guess). Some company did kits/dioramas of giant preying mantis, and giant spiders, etc., attacking towns - the towns would be, I think, like printed scenes on cardboard. Am sure there were more around 1974/1976 period.
I had a Tiffany Taylor doll. Her scalp rotated so you could change her hair color from blonde to brown. Also Stretch Octopus. They had a blue and pink one. No one remembers them. And in one of the doll clips you showed Mrs. Beasley. I wanted her so much and never got her. She was from the show Family Affair. Buffy's doll.
Lol..great video ❤️👍🏻I was born in 71 and remember a few of these esp the Jaws game ,it's one of my fav movies too , and the Snoopy Snow cone. That laughing doll would def be chucked in the trash real quick ..I'm sure she did inspire Chucky 😂🤭
I had a baby alive in the early 70s and u could feed it and give it a bottle and it would go potty lol I ran outta the food so shoved real food in her mouth and ruined it lol I dont remember most of the toys on here except for the Jaws game...great video Rhet!
Lol! My friend had that Baby Alive,& her parents would only allow her to feed it "special pretend baby food", which we were thoroughly cautioned never to taste...it was powdered laundry detergent, mixed into a paste! I didn't like baby dolls, so didn't care if its 'food/poop' was blue, but we both agreed that it was a good idea so the thing wouldn't end up smelling bad...😂😂
@@thomasmorano7779When my father died suddenly(I was 7yrs), my mother remarried,& I recall being subjected to a shocked & appalled scolding once, because we cut Barbie's hair,& colored her black with shoe polish...We named her Harriet. We were very confused about the angry scolding, as my late father had always had Julia as a nanny/housekeeper. My grandfather kept her on until she was ready to retire at a fairly advanced age,& made sure that she was always provided for. When she moved down South to live with her daughter, he paid off their home and established a monthly annuity for her. Julia was FAMILY,& we loved her dearly, dearly! They didn't MAKE black Barbies then; we made Harriet because she was an important part of our play - household, always there to solve problems and calm down anyone who was having a tantrum...Adults can be very stupid, sometimes. 😕
I was born in 79 😊 one of my favorite babies had a string in its back and when you pulled it she clapped, she also had a drop seat and when you gave her water she peed!! I played with that doll til one of her arms literally fell off!! Lol the 70's and 80's were the best!! Then came the 90's with the big hair bands and their monster ballads!! Oh how I miss the good Ole days!! Kids these days just don't know what they're missing!! But then kids aren't really kids anymore either 😥😥
I had the Sunshine Family and they were fun. What was so cool about them is they came with directions on how to make items using what would be generally junk. For example I remember you could make a seat using lids of cans, a couch using a milk carton and a playpen using a strawberry container. The bean babies look familiar to me as well but not sure if I had them. I didn't have it, but one year for someone's birthday me and a friend combined money to buy the Jaws game. I remember playing it (maybe with the person I bought it for) and it scared me because it had a loud noise. I haven't gone to a kids birthday in years but I wonder if kids even get toys from their friends at these parties anymore. It was a big deal getting toys I never would have gotten otherwise.
Oh my goodness, until you mentioned the Sunshine Family crafts, I had forgotten all about that part. Suddenly remembered making the baby playpen from a strawberry container! Thanks for that memory. : )
I loved my Sunshine Family! I had all there stuff... Thanks for including them... I loved my dolls.. Can you do one on just 70s dolls? There were lots of different barbies that came out then. Regular Barbie, Malibu Barbi and Quick curl Barbi. The Dawn Dolls, Tiffany Taylor, The Locket ones thy smelled like flowers and lived in their plastic locket. I also loved the ones named Peace, Love, Hope etc.... I tried to find the Peace set but the only one I found was Love.
I was finishing up high school in the early 70s and am pretty much unfamiliar with most of these other than the Cabbage Patch dolls, a few of which my sister had. Mom asked me if I wanted one, since even grown women were collecting them, but I said no thanks. Lol. I'd imagine quite a few of these items (if in pristine condition) could make a collector some money (?) I was never much into dolls (other than Chatty Cathy and Barbie for awhile,) but of the ones you showed, the Baby Beans dolls would be ideal for little girls (makes me think of the old homemade type dolls).
I remember Cabbage Patch dolls from the 80s, which is when my 2 daughters would have been old enough for them. As it was, we couldn't afford to buy them, so I found a pattern for soft-sculptured dolls in JoAnn's and made a couple of them. You could even individualize the facial features (my older daughter said she wanted an Asian doll) by adjusting the threads. My friend told me that some of the other kids' mothers refused to believe that I had sewn them. Too bad.
@@miriambucholtz9315 My mom and all my aunts made us kids the homemade Cabbage Patch dolls! I never met anyone else who had one of these, but me and all my cousins had them. And they did the hair and eye color to order for each of us. I don't remember being offered any other unique features like the shape of the eyes or skin tone, but I still loved my doll. I was older and got a large sized doll and my little sister got a smaller size doll, like the ones in the store.
Thanks for bringing back some good memories. Back in the 1970's I had that Hugo doll and it creeped me out with its blank stare. My favorites were Hot Wheels cars and the orange track.
There was Ants in the Pants game, Don’t Break the Ice game, Creepy Crawler gummy candy making kit, Shrunken Head apple sculpture kit, Mr. Potato Head Tooty Fruity Friends. Shrinky Dinks, Stretch Armstrong & Stretch Monster.
I had the Jaws game, Milky the Marvelous, and my sister had Gobbles the Goat. I also had Ice Bird and the Snoopy Snow Cone makers. Both were a lot of work for not a lot of payoff. I also had the Snoopy plush toy. They sold various outfits for Snoopy. One of my favorite toys was 2XL, the talking trivia robot.

That was a great look back! I remember most of the toys. You are right, some of them were creepy but what really stood out to me was how they reek of programming. I love your sense of humor!
The only toy I had from the United States was a barbie. I was 11 then. Thanks Rhett for sharing 💐
That "Great Moves" commercial starred three well known 70's TV actors: Roz Kelly (Pinky Tuscadero from Happy Days), Fred Berry (Rerun from What's Happening) and Peter Isaacson (from CPO Sharkey).
I thought that was Rerun!
Hey! Wasn't that Rerun from What's Happenin'? with the whiteboard? I had an Inchworm ride-on when I was little. The plastic outer shell eventually broke away but the metal interior/support and wheels were still going strong. We played on that until we couldn't fit on it. Good times!
That was him, all right.
I concur it's him.
I spotted him right off to! Lol!
Definitely was Rerun
Somebody now needs to do a story on, Who was Rerun? He was loved and he sure isn't forgotten. ☺
Hey Rhetty just enjoying Sunday n a Rhetty vid drops ..Perfect
Happy Sunday and thank you for watching!
This was great, and you covered some that don't usually make these lists! Milky, however, should ALWAYS make these lists!
I don't remember many of these things, my first child was born in 1974 and then the next year we moved to
Germany for three years so I was not in the loop for most of these toys.
You literally said toxic milk caplets without missing a beat ! Lol
I remember these toys! Thank you for the stroll down memory lane!
You forgot the Shrunken Head Apple Scupture kit and Gre-Gory the Bat. Stretch Armstrong was also pretty weird.
I LOVED the Sunshine Family.
And, we can’t forget about The Honey Hill Bunch…and, their treehouse!
I bought in the 70s or early 80s the snoopy snowcone machine. There was a store near where I lived that sold syrups
Having it with syrups really is the best way to go. We didn't have that but we did substitute kool-aid on them. Of course we also made Kool-Aid popsicles as well. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories my friend!
@@RhettyforHistory We did the Kool-aid Popsicles in the 50s and 60s. They were a great part of several generations of kids.
I had the Snoopy snowcone machine too and I never could get it to work right. I would struggle to grind down one ice cube for awhile and then just lose interest. 🤣
@@BangBang-hk4rg I like snow cones and had it in my 20s, it needed a better crank for sure
You can still buy it. My son (born in 89) also had one when he was in elementary school.
I was born in 1972 and this brought back many happy memories of my Jimmy JJ Walker doll that had a pull-string activated "Dyno-mite!" Or almost shooting my own eyes out with my giant Shogun Warrior figures.
OMG! I had both the Hugo doll with the glue-on facial features AND the Jaws game! Amazing that they are remembered!
I still have a Hugo toy and a Pulsar action figure from my childhood. Great memories! Thanks for this one!
I owned the Jaws game. It was actually a lot of fun to play.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memories of Jaws!
When the battery runs down on the baby laughs a lot… horrifying 😂
Hi Rhetty. was just little in the 70's being born in 71. I remember that the older Boys would like to put together model kits..A line that seemed quite popular was Hollywood Monsters ie: Wolfman, Frankenstein and the Count plus others. Any thoughts on the popularity of all of the sudden?
My brothers did model cars a lot and the green army men battle fields.
Oh wow …I remember those…had the Frankenstein I believe …from what I remember the base was a grave or tombstone or something..
@@stevesutherland6232 Yes, he's walking in a graveyard for the base.
@@starmnsixty1209 👍🏻
I had 4 of those things growing up. Fun trip down memory lane!
Loved Tiffany Taylor. I think the names were Ollie and Olivia Octopus.
Both my wife and I had a Jaws game . I loved it
My mom had that Jaws game and I wish we still had it because that was a lot of fun.
Great vid Rett!
I had a baby alive in the early 70s and u could feed it and give it a bottle and it would go potty lol
I ran outta the food so shoved real food in her mouth and ruined it lol I dont remember
most of the toys on here except for the Jaws game...great video Rhet!
I had a Baby Alive, too!
Haahas shoved real food.i used to give dolls haircuts.lol
Baby Laughs a Lot is scarier than Chucky!
Love this channel!
I'm glad you are enjoying the channel and I appreciate you watching!
I’ve never heard of a few of these like the ‘Ball Buster’ game, some others sure brought back some memories, pretty fun to look back at this stuff 👍
I use to love playing with some of these toys.
Thank you for watching!
My dawn doll was the world's greatest gymnast ... even when her 1 leg broke off! 😂
I remember the inchworm ride on and the Sunshine Family ♥️ Two of my favorites!
Awww man! Great video! This took me back to a happier time in my life, Thankyou.
Thank u so much for making these videos. Really relaxing at night to binge your channel. Amazing work.
Thank you and I'm happy to know that you are enjoying the channel.
I had the sunshine family. I loved it
Thank you for watching Sandra!
Thanks for bringing back some good memories. Back in the 1970's I had that Hugo doll and it creeped me out with its blank stare. My favorites were Hot Wheels cars and the orange track.
......AND getting whipped with it from our Dad! lol. Child abuse now....lol.
I had the Snoopy sno-cone maker and the Jaws game.
I never had the snoopy snow cone maker but I knew people who did. It was really a good one. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories.
That Jaws "Buckaroo" brings back memories.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Recognized a lot of toys that actually survived into the early-mid 80’s, many of these are downright terrifying. 😱
Loved 2XL with the 8 track tapes! I saved my allowance for it.
*Aww, loved my inchworm! Mom and Dad got it for me for Christmas when I was age 4, what a happy time!* 🐛🐛🐛🐛
I was born in 1973. I had some of this stuff. Lol. Man, those days were great.
Me too!
I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I always LOVE to see what you are going to put next in your Retro Vids!.....Love ya Rhetty! I was so surprised that you did not have Clickety Clackers in this one.....I cannot tell you how many bruises a kid got from those damn things! But I had them in every color.....
Richard
Born in '65, remember all of these, owned a few🤪Thanks for stirring up my old brain cells 😁
What a time I remember waiting for sears and JCPenney Christmas wish books. I was a gi joe and planet of the apes fan and still have all my stuff. It was a golden era of toys
Thank You the 70's had a lot of strange things going on 🌹
Thanks for the great videos. Loved growing up in the 70s! One to include next time: Crissy Family Dolls with their "growing" adjustable hair length was one all my sisters and gfs wanted.
Those certainly were some bizarre toys back then. 😁
Tom Baker!
I had the Inchworm & Snoopy Snow Cone Machine. Good time👍😄😎 Got another one 2 yrs ago (I'm 48) for my Birthday 🎉 Made me 😭 Had such fun memories making snow cones for all my friends in the heat of summer 🥵 Those laughing dolls freaked me out though😵💫👎💀
Hugo was the best!! I love his guest appearances on the Uncle Floyd Show!!
you may have to be old enough and from NJ to remember that one!
So your doll basically keels over and dies.
