    I remember an anecdote from the guy who designed that specific Street Shark: apparently he was rushed and, when time came to design the character's shoes, he looked down and just copied the Doc Martins he was wearing.
    Also, the rubber main body was so you could move the hard plastic fin behind the head up and down to make the toy "bite" with its ginormous maw. That was honestly my favorite part of the line, you could make them eat other action figures.

      Troll dolls were a single piece of hollow plastic with the hair rooted into the head, so they would've had to do some extra work to make it into an action figure head, but that's still possible.

    The first rubber figure is called a dangler and they were sold allover Blackpool and those type of places. The reason batman has the sort of furry styled skin is because the original figure was actually a Wolfman/werewolf and they reused the body for batman.

    "Troll Force" is probably one of the greatest bootleg lines. For those unfamiliar they took knock off MOTU bodies (from the "Freedom Fighters" branch of the "Galaxy Warriors" family tree) and stuck troll heads on them and themed them from various 80's pop culture things. There was a pair of wrestlers (one of them a rip off Hulk Hogan) a pair of generic ninjas, a pair of super heroes (rip off Superman and Incredible Hulk) a pair of generic soldiers, a pair of "medieval warriors" (one of which is just in a BDSM outfit) and a pair of "Future Fighters" (a cyborg and a rip off Terminator)

But I was better at crying, than I was at counting, and all I can remember is crying and being scared and cold, also the balloons may have been blue or green. 06:10 Thats right Stu, Captain Power and the soldiers of the future. There was a line of figures, and a line of interative toy vehicles that came with a VHS tape that you could play and shoot flashing pink things on your old CRT tv screen (doesnt work with anything else of course) with your powerjet, or striker, or interlocker, whichever vehicle you had, and avoid flashing yellow things or you'd take hits, and if you ran out of powerpoints then your vehicle's pilot would eject from the vehicle to show game over. Or you could put the vehicle in 'room' mode and shoot a little shiny target instead. Hours of fun. Well, about an hour, thats how long the tape that came with my powerjet ran anyway I think.

    Interesting fact about the Secret Wars toy line. It actually partially inspired the iconic Symbiote arc in the Spider-Man comics, on account of Mattel being a big fan of being able to sell two identical spider-men in two different colors, it convinced Marvel to keep Spidey's black costume around longer, leading to the Symbiote arc and inevitably to the creation of Venom

They may have been targeted to boys but I like them because they're still ugly-cute like regular troll dolls, but the Battle Trolls were just plain ugly. And I don't get why they thought troll dolls were supposed to be for girls, I remember boys liking the Thomas Dam-type trolls in the 1990s as well. Although the writing on the packaging for Battle Trolls was amusing: "To make sure your Battle Troll stays happy, just follow these simple rules: DON'T feed him, DON'T be nice to him and KEEP him hidden in a dark, smelly place. With the proper neglect, your Battle Troll should stay mean, cranky, and ready to fight anyone or anything for years!"

    That batman-ish figure reminds me of an odd pointless toy I had as a child. It was a plastic batman figure with arms, legs and head that didnt move, Tied with some easily knotted string to a yellow nylon 'parachute'. You were supposed to be able to wrap it up, throw it in the air, and watch it float down. It didnt work on any level.

    • @witchwaynow7572
      @witchwaynow7572 2 года назад +1

      I remember those parachute toys, the only way to get them to work was to throw them off of a very high building. Like a multi storey carpark. Twelve floors high works okay but only if you are lucky enough to manage to not tangle up the cords which is practically impossible.

    Hairy Snakeman almost looks like they took a mold of one of those rubber monkeys, and then carved Batman clothes into said mold. I've definitely seen this sort of thing done with other GeneriCo toys.

    Back in the 90s my brother and I had military trolls with short hair like a bristle brush. His had a black ninja-ish outfit and mine had full body green camo. Arm and legs were articulated and they had the muscly superhero bodies and rubber heads.

    Fun fact about Captain Power, it’s actually the first place to mention Babylon 5. One of the heroes says he got his cyborg bits there.

    • @lutherheggs451
      @lutherheggs451 2 года назад

      Captain Power is from 1987...Babylon 5 is from 1995....Straczynski also wrote Spider-man One More Day/Brand New day and the only good episodes of The Real Ghostbusters before the hot garbage 3rd season and beyond....

    • @somoneelse3488
      @somoneelse3488 2 года назад

      @@lutherheggs451 This is correct. Babylon 5 was mentioned in Captain Power long before it was its own show. Presumably Stracynski either had the base of the idea even then, or he just reused the name..

    I didn't realize I had that Kang figure until you mentioned the harness, and that sent memories flowing back. Weird how that happens. I am not even sure why I had a Kang action figure. I don't think I had any other Marvel figures as a kid? And while I enjoy Kang he's not like my favorite Marvel villain or anything. Probably something my parents bought at a garage sale.
