This is the first time I've seen this video, though I have known Dennis's "Pua Hone" for years and years as performed by Dennis, his son, David, and countless others. And I am feeling doubly blessed by his introduction to the song here: First, because of the precious years that I spent in college at Kaua'i Community College and UH Manoa in the early '80s, and for what I learned there as a student of Hawaiian culture, song, hula, chant and aloha, and from my dear and brilliant classmate and now lifelong friend, ki ho'alu artist, Paul Togioka. Second, because before and after my time in Hawai'i, I have made my home, for the most part, in Kasilof, Alaska, just a few miles from Kenai, to which Dennis refers in his introduction here. I can imagine how hard it was for Dennis to have to choose one locale over another in which to make his home. I have learned so much from living in both places, my all-too-short time in Hawai'i, and my 40+ years in Alaska. Mahalo nui loa to all my Hawaiian friends and teachers for taking this haole under their wings and accepting me in their hearts. And to Dennis and David and so many of Hawai'i's artists, dancers and music makers. You have changed my life and spirit for the better. I owe you all so much. Dennis, you are sorely missed, but your music and spirit live on in the hearts and minds of all those that you have blessed with your music, kindness and inspiration. Me ke aloha pumehana from one of your many, many admirers. Mike Morgan, Kasilof, Alaska.

I'm sitting in Boise, Idaho and it's 5 degrees outside. Going through all these great videos of Hawai'ian music. Thanks to all you guys for sending me your gift of Aloha from back home in the islands. Not my birthplace, not where I currently live. But y'know that home is where the heart is.
    What about my eyes?
Oh. That's just the Hilo rain...
    Aloha,
