  • Some shots of the Euclid/GM TC-12 dozer, at the 2014 Canandaigua Pageant of Steam. This is about six minutes of the TEN HOURS of video I shot at this year's pageant. Leave a message if there is some aspect of the pageant that you are interested in, and I can probably post video of that activity or exhibit.

    It was disassembled into three pieces for transport. After the blade was loaded, the tractor was loaded onto two low beds, connecting pins were pulled and the two halves were loaded.
    Hearing two Detroits harmonizing under load is best sound ever.

    I used to operate machines with twin 6-71 engines... USN Mike 6 boats. No electricity, Hydraulic starters with accumulators to store energy for starting. Used as landing craft to take marines and equipment to the beaches in the early 1970's. USS TULARE LKA 112.

    wow what a machine back in its day and being a old guy I remember them and didn't see many but they were the best back then for sure.
    the same as I drove White Freightliner tractors with the v 12 detroits and they were so powerful back in those years.

    I have owned two 8240 Terex dozers with 8v71 Detroits. Other than the track frames being a weak link,they are a productive comfortable machine to operate. Definitely have a lot of push to them.

      lawnfarmer the guy running the dozer is a fucking arrogant idiot. I watched fin park a grader on a 10• slope pointed towards a whole crowd of people idling at the Father’s Day show in Sharon springs and walked away for 20 plus minutes. I told a couple of younger kids to get off of it because they were climbing all through it. He was probably half drunk in this video

    I recall as a youngster a TC12 and a D9G have a pushoff blade to blade.
    TC12 just pushed the D9 backwards.
    Mind you , the TC12 had a very belly compared to its width so had a habit of getting bogged in soft going.
    Beautiful machine non the less.

    Two dozers connected into one machine, with one operator. Brilliant idea. But Euclid was not the first to realize this idea. Two Allis Chalmers HD19's were connected into one machine in 1949, on the Garrison Dam project in NDakota. Maybe Euclid stole the idea?

    I think it's cheaper to use a crawler loader. The dozers just pick up the amount of dirt they can push, and pushes it wherever. Lotta diesel used. If you pick the dirt up with a big loader , it's probably cheaper to pick the dirt up and move it vs pushing it.

    • @lewiemcneely9143

      @ShootsStudio  8 лет назад +3

      +James Pendergrass Yes. One engine for each track, each with its own throttle so track speeds can be controlled independently. Also, the forward/reverse control on each track is independent, so they can turn in opposite directions. The whole machine can be split down the middle for transport. It's an amazing machine. Thanks for watching!

    • @SummitAggregates
      @SummitAggregates 6 лет назад +2

      Actually not really...a 6-71 under full load is burning right at 5 gal/hr x2, 10 gal/hr, which is right at what a current D9 burns...keep in mind, these dozers are roughly 80k lbs without the blade, which makes them up into the 90s with the front attachment - a current D9N/R is about 105k, while A D8N/R is about 84k...very similar to todays machines.

    • @SummitAggregates
      @SummitAggregates 6 лет назад

      A newer version, called a D800, produced from Mid80s, through roughly early 90s when Terex dozers were phased out, due to GM's financial status and market conditions is a really nice comparison to a D9N/R...with a single ripper and semi U blade, weighs about 108k, 12V71T, derated to 370 horse, drinks about 20 gal/hr...granted is much more than the TC12, but, more weight, significantly more pushing power and cooling. You may notice my picture...we have owned ours since 1999. Great machine...hard to find parts for...
