    For most people, how you wear your hair is part of your personal style and expression. But that is not the case in some of Thailand's schools. Thai school regulations on haircuts have become a human rights issue. Al Jazeera's Veronica Pedrosa reports from Bangkok.
    At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. We bring topics to light that often go under-reported, listening to all sides of the story and giving a 'voice to the voiceless.'

    As a boy who has gotten detention before for my shoulder length long hair, I find rules based on haircuts in school absolutely disgraceful. Hair grows outside of school so it should be your right to have hair of whatever length you want.

    I am a student in Thailand. I used to be in public school I still remember the day that I got hair cut by teacher! She was walking around with the scissors in her hand, ready to cut student's hair. Now I study at in Private Catholic school but it's actually the same. I need the reason and more freedom in this country. Somebody please make this to be world news. Not only the hair style but the schooling systems also. We can't do what we want. We must follow teachers all the time :(

    As a fellow Thailand Student, from Montfort College Secondary Section. I extremely disagree not only just the restriction of hairstyles/haircuts. But there are many things schools in Thailand is doing wrong. For example, the punishment for the students, some of them still uses violence and that's not okay. "They say it's for discipline", I rightfully disagree.

    • @routeman680
      @routeman680 5 лет назад

      If you lose discipline, schools in Thailand will become like many schools in Britain - unruly, rude, violent students, and decent students not allowed to learn. South East Asia has nothing to learn about education from the west. SIngapore is a better model for other countries.

      @routeman680 4 года назад +2

      @@CosmicHowlerx It doesn't limit you to be yourself. If you look at countries which don't have school uniforms, the students all try to dress the same anyway with tracksuits and hoodies, except that they try to have designer labels to show off. Creativity comes from your personality, talents and abilities, not from hairstyles or the clothes you wear.

    There's a big obstacles in changing this hair rule: a conservatives usually says that Thailand is located at tropical climate and undergraduate's pregnancy rate will be raising. It's about time to change Thai education's key word from "discipline" to "respect others" so we can solve this social shit in Thailand.

  • @artpoem1487

    Let's put it straight, as long as these military people determine how you breathe and live the rule that forces the students to cut their hair at a certain length and style will always be there. Just like the students are also "asked" to fulfill their scout duties during the school semester

  • @swanasen
    @swanasen 11 лет назад +4

    I think shorts make sense for Thailand coz it's very hot and humid here. Would you rather that men wear suits and ties to work everyday and crank up air conditions so you won't sweat and smell rotten by the end of the day? In usa/australia, college students wear shorts and flip flops to classes in the summer coz it's too hot for long pants.
