  • Venues of Indiana High School basketball. A basketball fanantic's quest to see an Indiana High School basketball game in every one of the state's 92 Counties.
90 of them were taken at a high school, some of the gyms now no longer being used. Vigo County's photo was at Indiana State's Hulman Center at the IHSAA Girls State Finals, Knox County was taken at Vincennes Univ. while hosting a holiday tournament.

Thanks for a great trip down memory lane. Back when I played basketball in Indiana, the big gyms were nice, but the small ones were the most memorable. People packed the gym on game nights, literally hanging from the rafters. They sat so close to the playing floor that you might trip over a fan's foot. One time a player was running so hard he couldn't stop and fell through the door and ended up in the parking lot. Small gyms have character.

    Nice job -
But I need to say, it looks like with a few exceptions (Evansville / Richmond) you picked the smallest schools in each county to show. That's not all bad, but folks should remember this as they are watching this. Indiana has such a reverence for HS basketball that even the smallest schools consider their gyms a shrine for the great events that unfold within them. Since the travesty of single-class in 1998, is is basically impossible to relive the emotion of Friday and Saturday nights in these gyms, but once I am able, I may try to get to EVERY high school gym with a 10mm lens, and document every gym that still plays. It will not be the same as in the heyday, but it will still be better than anywhere else.
Only in Indiana does high school basketball reign supreme.

As an avid Indiana high school basketball fan (Highland grad, by the way), I enjoyed this video. I have to agree with Thomas Bork (below) that Crown Point is an odd choice for our Lake County. Crown Point's gym is nice, but quite new, with little character. Personally, I would have selected the Hammond Civic Center, where many Lake County schools played sectional games throughout the years.
