    Peter, You raised some very good points. For all we know, there might even be people watching this video who are currently between engagements and watching every penny.

    I own an 08 Prius as well, but only 76K miles. It has been serviced at the dealer all of its life, but I’m looking for a good, trustworthy mechanic such as yourself here in New Port Richey, FL, as I believe my dealership is grossly overpriced. I’m looking forward to more videos on this car, as I’m not afraid to do basic repairs and maintenance, but I also want to increase my knowledge so an unscrupulous mechanic can’t take advantage of me. Your videos are a godsend for someone like me. Thank you for sharing them with us.

    Checking the air filter at every oil change is common place for me. I just throw a new one in if needed BUT I blow out the filter with compressed air at the inspection if not changing. Cleaning the intake pathway is just plain logical too. MAF sensor and throttle body cleaning is something I look forward to doing! 🥳 A joyful day when all are cleaned.

    Very, very GOOD POINT regarding shortage of funds. Everyone should review their Owner's Manuals and determine when routine maintenance is required. Some people, older like me, grew up hearing to change motor oil and filter every 3,000 mile. However, my 2019 Toyota Tacoma Truck recommends this procedure every 10,000 miles. Adhering to this schedule will save money on unneeded maintenance. Peter is such a smart and talented mechanic, he always thinks of his customer! Thank you for sharing this information.

      I personally go by time myself; every six months for oil & filter. But that's only because the filter is super easy to get to on my old Camry. With 200k miles or so, and with mostly short trips, that's the one piece of maintenance I don't skimp on. But you're right, newer vehicle with less miles, probably won't need to be as frequent.

      The better the oil and filter, the fewer changes will be necessary.

    Great video. Very thoughtful of you to prolong the life of the air filter in this tough times. thank you. Not all mechanics are so considerate.

    I like your low mellow merry way of educating us, on the proper maintenance required. So, I subcribed, have 2015 Prius, great car close to 100k w/o a problem.

    The OEM cabin air filter on my 06' 4Runner is original. I did the same thing, vacuumed, and noticed the material was cotton fiber, so I wash it in warm water and dawn dish soap, rinse, and let dry. Still using it. K&N for the engine air filter.

  • @paulparoma

    I installed a K&N filter in 2008 and have not had to buy a new one since. Washed and re-oiled once.

      I don't like oiled air filters. The oil can mess up the mass airflow sensor

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 3 года назад +1

      @@slalomking It can theoretically, but it would have to be very heavily oiled to do that.

    turn the lid over and vacuum the VOC filter on the inside lid top. It gets dirty and blocks air flow if not cleaned.

    MAS cleaning and new Toyota/Denso air filter every other oil change... (BTW, I don't wait for 10k miles, even with full synthetic and a high mileage filter. I want my car to last.)
    PCV valve every 6 oil changes (they're cheap enough).

    • @slalomking
      @slalomking 3 года назад +1

      SeanPopify your pissing your money away. I change my Toyotas air filters every 30k with only Toyota filters. My PVC's are metal, I changed them at 200k, they still looked good, rattled freely. The Camry has 260k the Matrix has 240k. I do oil changes at 5k and use Mobil 1. I use Toyota oil filters.

      It's fine. I'd say the bigger priority is that misfire code. A coil might be on the way out, and if does, the engine will more than likely shut down entirely to avoid damaging the cat, leaving the owner stranded. It's not always the visually obvious stuff that can get you :)

    240k miles is it still on the original battery ???? &
    💡now take your dirty air filter and throw it in the dishwasher and Boom you just saved so much $$$$$$$$ hahahaha....
