    Cool! California Cars are based on the design of the Superliners, as are the Pacific Surfliners.

    Great catches! CDTX 2012 and 2013's K5LAs sound great! 2012's reminds me of what ex-Amtrak 455 used to sound back in the day when she had her good K5LA.

      Average_ Joe Thanks ! Yep, #2013 and #2012 were definitely one of the many nice ones ! It was doubly nice to catch #2013 twice because of the deadhead moves. The F59PHIs up here in NorCal do bring back some fond memories of the sounds of the Surfliner F59PHIs that were around not all too long ago.

    Awesome Video:) Oakland Jack London Square is an awesome place to railfan with the many street runnings, deadhead Amtraks and horn echos. I'm glad you finally went to one of my favorite hotspots in NorCal and got some great train action as well.

    Awesome video of bay area rail ops. Wishing Kato would produce Amtrak California paint scheme in their N Scale passenger cars!

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  5 лет назад +2

      EspeeMike Thank you ! Yeah, same here but for HO scale. There’s been lots of talk about manufacturers making the bi-level cars for years but never an actual production of them so far unfortunately.

    You gotta catch 8306, it’s a one of kind piece of Amtrak equipment with a New cast P5

    • @superbaddy4
      @superbaddy4 4 года назад

      8306 is actually out of proper use right now. For some reason, it's facing the wrong direction and being used only as a regular coach.

    Thanks, really enjoyed that. Was last in Jack London Square, Oakland in 1996 on a vacation to the US. Lots of powered F40s still on trains and filmed a stopped SP freight. UP Had their own lines some distance away I understand but not sure what happened after the merger. Was lucky enough to catch the old Amtrak switcher, an SW1 I think.

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  4 года назад

      Thank you ! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the video ! Sounds like you saw some great action back then; especially with the F40s and SW1 !

      @midlandcompound 4 года назад +1

      Thanks yes, long time ago now! You can hear somebody in the background commenting that it's an ALCO but it was an SW1 alright.

    6:03 The very last crossing closest to the yards had early activation. In fact, it seems like almost all the crossing had an early activation problem, as well as late resetting at the time.

    Were their freights you didn't film? I live along the line further east and it is almost exclusively passenger until late at night after the CC trains stop running.

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  3 года назад

      Nope. Video represents the continuous train action during the time I was there. I did however catch a freight the second time I visited, specifically in the evening.

    Thats not fair, how come San Juaquins still gets to use F59s but Surfliner doesnt

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  5 лет назад +3

      The F59PHIs used on the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains were originally purchased and owned by California’s Department of Transportation (Caltrans). These F59s will still be around until at least 2023 since they were all overhauled in 2012, which is nice to know. Unfortunately, the Surfliner F59PHIs were not purchased, but rather leased by Amtrak and were all returned at the end of their 20 year lease and transferred to Metra.

  • @MetxsightseerRailfan
    @MetxsightseerRailfan 5 лет назад +1

    Is Amtrak California still using F59PHI

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  5 лет назад +4

      Predaking Savage Yep. The state of California owns these F59PHIs and they were all overhauled around 2012. They’ll still be around on the Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains until at least 2023, which is nice to know.

    why this track never elevated?

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  4 года назад +2

      Oscar W. Money and necessity are mainly the reasons. There has also been talk of a railroad trench as well, but the City of Oakland hasn’t yet invested the resources to look into the feasibility of such a grade separation project yet.

    • @GamingRailfanner
      @GamingRailfanner 4 года назад +1

      I don’t think a trench is needed in my opinion because trucks don’t come down the road here ( if this is true ). And there is not a lot of cars here too
      Mostly pedestrians
