    They teach that:
    - Your relationship with God depends on them.
    - Your knowledge of scripture can only come from them.
    - Salvation depends on your support of... you guessed it... them.
    - Your life depends on field service.
I don't see how people can say that they haven't inserted themselves into God's plan of salvation as an additional requirement that has no scriptural basis. I'm sure the usual suspects will be along shortly to tell us where/how we have it all wrong.

@@Mr.DC3.1914 Not a really good example, albeit I knew one would try to defend the rendering of this passage.
There’s a specific reason why 2 Cor. 5:20 is not rendered “substitute” vs. “on behalf of” or “for” by the overwhelming majority of bible translation, b/c the word “substitute” in Greek literally means to ‘stand-in or to replace’.
The Gospel is all about Jesus Christ & no where would The Apostle Paul remotely hint at “standing-in or replacing” the One he was preaching about. Therefore, he availed himself as an ambassador coming on “behalf” of Jesus, not substituting for him.
Ur example of a substitute teacher is actually a poor one, simply b/c a substitute teacher can either follow a curriculum set before them, or if a teacher is expected to be out for a while, create their own curriculum & standards. So the word “substitute” is a very slippery slope & is an unhappy translation per 100% of credible bible translations.

You know, I struggled so long with spiritual issues, and got sidetracked by cults and all kinds of Satanic distractions, and it's really only because I had never actually studied the Bible, in spite of going to religious schools. I thought that I knew the Bible. I thought (perhaps narcissistically) that I had an enlightened understanding of Christianity that normal Christians just didn't get (I read G.K. Chesterton and Joseph Campbell, studied Buddhist and Hindu texts, listened to Alan Watts, lit a bunch of sage, and became a pompous ¶ss about the 'deeper concepts of the Christian myths'.) So I didn't need to open it. But then I got sucked down the cult path, and the only thing that freed me from spiritual bondage was actually reading the Bible. The cults are there ready to make you lose your way, and the way they do it is by convincing you that there are more enlightened people out there with a special connection that you just have to 'tap into'. But really, you have to READ and UNDERSTAND. God's word is plain and available to all men, and the only thing Satan can do is make you doubt that--that's his only trick. And he's got a million variations on that one trick.

@@RowanTasmanian It is more than astonishing that there is a serious dispute over whether or not Russell's behavior and teachings meet the criterion of idolatry.
The answer to this question does not require any personal interpretation, but results conclusively from Russell's own fiefdoms and statements.
1.) Russell propagated for more than 30 years that the invisible presence of Christ began in 1874. The doctrine of invisible parousia is, in Jesus' own words, a hallmark of the "false prophet." Matthew 24:24, Luke 17:22-24). The Apostle Paul earnestly exhorted his confreres in Thessaloniki not to follow anyone who spreads such a message publicly. (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3). The term "parousia" was demonstrably used by the apostle Paul exclusively in the sense of the personal or sensually perceptible presence of a person. The term "invisible presence" satisfies the criterion of a paradox, as if a father were to seriously use the term female son. A son is by definition a male child, just as "parousia" in ancient Greek represented the personal or visible visit of a person or ruler to his subjects.
2.) Russell announced over 3 decades the prediction that in 1914 the end of this evil world will take place and all Christians will experience the rapture to heaven at that time. For the year 1914, not the outbreak of the 1st World War had been predicted, but the beginning of the thousand-year rule of Chisti. The doctrine of a second class of Christians who would survive Armageddon on earth was not provided for in the curriculum of Russell and his followers. This prediction has demonstrably not been fulfilled.
How can one pretend to love the God of the Bible while disregarding His basic commandments?
According to God's clear rules, an Old Covenant believer was forbidden to follow a confrere who had spread false predictions among his compatriots in the name of God. (Deuteronomy 18:22-24).
In this sense, according to the rules of Yahwe, Russell should have been removed from office by the end of 1914 at the latest.
Jehovah's Witnesses disregard this rule by granting false prophets a privileged position and status as saints within the Brotherhood.
3.) Russell had described himself as the mouthpiece of God. Not even the apostle Paul claimed such a designation for himself, even though he had been called by Jesus Christ Himself. (Galatians 1:11-12).
Rather, the apostle Paul was content with the term "slave and apostle of Jesus Christ." (example: Galatians 1,1-2, 1. Corinthians 1,1-3, Ephesians 1,1-3).
And in this capacity as God's mouthpiece, Russell had also publicly proclaimed his predictions.
If, in the name of a God who cannot lie, one repeatedly spreads predictions that prove to be a blatant error, one should be aware of the consequences. In this case, not only the reputation of human propagandists, but also the trustworthiness of the Bible and the God attested to in it is damaged in public perception.
For this reason, Jesus Christ personally stated that the determination of end-time dates is reserved exclusively for God the Father. (Acts 1:7). After that, Jesus forbade His apostles to explore end-time dates, let alone proclaim them. This commandment applies to all Christians at all times. Those who disregard this commandment disregard the will of God the Father.
After the doctrine of "the generation" had to be abandoned in 1995 (see Watchtower article of 01.11.1995), this doctrine was revived years ago in the form of the overlapping generation, although this doctrine is in absolute contradiction to the statements of Jesus in his end-time discourse.
4.) Russell's followers publicly appeared as "Russellites" with the approval or acquiescence of this Mr. Russell, although Paul in his 1st letter to the Corinthians declared such a practice absolutely inadmissible. (1 Corinthians 1:10-17).
5.) Russell publicly stated that if you only read his scripture studies, you would remain in the light and fall into darkness if you only read the Bible.
This truth was accepted and acknowledged by the Russellites and publicly disseminated in the form of scripture studies, etc.
How truthfully this statement is to be evaluated in retrospect can be deduced from the fact that no library in a local community contains Russell's scripture studies and other works. In the case of inquiries about these „historical testimonies of truth“, the respective brothers are referred to the current publications by the responsible elders.
6.) Russell was a representative and propagandist of the "pyramid doctrine". He claimed that the Great Pyramde was to be regarded as a stone witness of God. To this end, Russell traveled to Egypt and studied the inner passages of the Great Pyramid to legitimize the calculation of his end-time dates, especially in relation to the year 1914.
Every Christian is aware that the pyramid is to be regarded as a pagan object and served the worship of the pharaohs as god-like beings.
As a Christian, how can one seek the truth in pagan objects or places of worship when the Bible is the only Word of God passed on to man through the apostles of Christ?
7.) These scripture studies were decorated with pagan symbols on the obverse, as a sign of his glorification of the pharaoh cults. (Eagle wing of the sun god Ammon-Ra).
8.) Russell was buried next to the miniature replica of the Great Pyramid. This monument was recently removed. Masonic symbols were also engraved on this monument. ("All-seeing Eye", "Tilted Cross with Crown"). On his grave, Russell immortalized himself as a messenger of Laodicea of Revelation.
Does such behavior testify to modesty and appropriate self-assessment?

37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 Upon these two commandments hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”
This is about loving God, loving brothers, loving your fellow human. Notice how it’s the basics of survival you’re providing, food, water, shelter, first aid, clothing, and adding compassion
Jesus says what that looks like in Luke 10:25-37.
Nothing in Matthew identifies “Christ’s brothers” to only be referring to a special class of people we must submit to in order to be saved. Think about this, the same people telling you, that your life depends on them, also said this verse was about them, and you aren’t allowed to disagree.

Don't you think this video is a bit pedantic and hypocritical? You also believe that Christianity has certain doctrinal parameters, and if you go beyond those, then you are no longer safe/saved, correct? The only difference is that because JW's are the ONLY ones that believe what we hold to be true, then we think you need to remain a part of Jehovah's Organisation, whereas you think someone could possibly leave whatever denomination/group you belong to, and find another one that's not dissimilar. That's the only difference as far as I can tell.
Or were you saying you don't need to belong to a group at all? As long as you believe all the right stuff, you don't even need to leave your house. How do you reconcile that with Proverbs 18:1?

    • @LightoverDarkMinistry
      @LightoverDarkMinistry  Год назад +2

Doctrinal parameters? Well yes, and no. If someone says they’re a Christian, and lives a life opposite of how a Christian should, I would say they aren’t one, a false convert, and they are either fooling everyone else or and themselves. That includes unrepentant sin, practice of sin, holding beliefs that are contrary to core doctrine, like for instance believing There’s a mother God or Jesus isn’t the only way to eternal life.
Speaking on church, For the Christian, it really doesn’t matter what Christian believers you associate with. Whatever church you attend (obviously being real and not apostate) will help build you spiritually and Shepard your faith, as well as support you socially, mentally, finically. But that church doesn’t save you.
True Christian doctrine should be approached like the lone survivor on a desert island. If you Matt, let’s say you’re an atheist, find yourself stranded forever on a desert island alone, and all you have is a Bible, can you be saved spiritually? Of course. Repent, call out to Jesus. Now, there is no one to baptize you, no doors to knock on, no one to preach to, no church to join. But still saved because Your salvation depends on Christ alone, (without people involved) that’s the Gospel.
As a true Christian, you want to profess faith, you want to associate with others, you want to tell others, but those acts don’t save you, Christ does. Those works are desires that come a changed heart, that originated from the saving work of the Holy Spirit.
      Make sense?
