The great thing about the fan translation of this game is that the team made two versions: A traditional accurate one and one that took the same "throw out the script and just go crazy" approach the U.S. iteration of the show used. Inspired.

The fan translation also replaces the opening theme with the American song, which was a B-52s pastiche.
Tecmo lives up to their reputation for cinematic cutscenes and ninjas here.
They really missed a trick not putting this out in the US, since the anime was pretty popular at the time.

@ocpmovie I don't think I would've figured out that it was a the B-52s pastiche but I can totally notice it.

Weirdly enough, this is one of those obscurities that really caught on in the "Famiclone-centric" regions of the world. For example, it's considered a classic in my home country of Poland and is better known here than many of the Western NES heavy-hitters, like Mario 3 or Castlevania.

Yeah, I have relatives from the countries formerly behind the Iron Curtain and this game seems to be one of those titles, alongside Mitsume ga Tooru (an awesome game too) and some other action-y games like that. RPGs/adventure games on the other hand weren't really a thing. Due to the language barrier, the pirates usually didn't bother with them, as far as I'm aware.

being on bazaar and seeing a cat on pirate cart label could mean two things, it's going to be either this, or Rockin Cats

In Vietnam, people seems to be remember the anime more than the game, though the anime itself remained on PayTV only for 15 years (that version used the English dub). Fortunately there has been an attempt to translate the original Japanese version of the anime to Vietnamese (one of the very few old anime to do so in my country).
The game is definitely something people wanted for the collection, not just for the license, but also for how good it is. It certainly helps that it is one of the many titles that are more popular in Famiclone countries, especially Russia.

AFAIK this game was fairly popular in the countries with Famiclones in particular. It's a good game, especially if you know the source material... but I gotta say, it might be one of the top 10 easiest action/platformer games on the system. Playing through it without losing a life is super easy from what I recall. Still, it's definitely worth a playthrough!

Loved Samurai Pizza Cats when i was a kid. It came on before Pokémon on TV in the morning. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The game is enjoyable too. Glad we got a fan translation.

This was a really neat game when it came out. The show just adapts well to becoming an 8-bit Nintendo sidescroller. I'm glad it had long cutscenes too, since a major draw of the show is the silliness and that's hard to do with just gameplay (at least back then.)
While the english show was never a huge hit when it was initially translated in the early 90s, the reruns for the show ran from 1996 to 2000 in the US, so it must've done well enough to fill a timeslot like that for so long!

Yeah, this is one of my favorites. I *adore* SPC, and the fact that it’s a good (and easy) game is a great bonus hahaha

Such a nice game, one of the favorites in my childhood. This could even be the first one I've beaten 😊

I was kind of scared that you'd say this game sucked, as I'm kind of a big fan, so I'm glad that your only real complaints were "it's too easy" and "the levels are huge but there's no reason to explore." BTW, the lead cat's name is Yattarou, not Yatsutarou.

One of my favorite Famicom games, strangely never beat it but it's one I enjoyed a lot : )

The show was a bit before my time, but I did play through this because I got a pirate copy as a bonus with a few other cartridges I ordered a while back. It's a good one to play if you want to destress I think.

I think I vaguely remember the cartoon? I had heard the story about its translation, though. as for this game probably played a level or two via a ROM but never actually finished it.

I saw a few minutes of an episode of the show once, and I really didn't get it
