One of the lessons I learned from both BB and Buddy Guy was to listen to other instruments - saxophone, keyboards etc, and also singers. BB said his guitar playing was influenced by jazz singers, and Mikhailia Jackson, a gospel singer, was a big influence, one of his favourites.
He made a three video instructional set some years ago (I had it on VHS - gives you an idea of how long ago!), where he really broke his style down and with demonstrations with his band (sans horns), and that was some of the best blues playing I've ever heard from him or anyone else. I picked up some of his jazzier runs from that and I've incorporated them into my own playing ever since. Haven't learned anything quite like it from anyone else. He was definitely about more than just the "BB King box"!
Nice little study you've done here, and good to point out to upcoming players that there is much to be learned from this legendary blues icon.

BB's band was the best rehearsed band I've ever heard. The first time I saw him the least tenured player in his band was the bass player at 28 years.
