  • The inaugural Toyota electric SUV earmarked for India is scheduled to debut in the latter half of 2025. As an evolution of the Urban SUV concept, this production model will be closely related to Maruti's eVX.
Last year, Toyota provided a glimpse of its forthcoming midsize electric SUV through the Urban SUV concept. Essentially akin to the Maruti eVX, it marks Toyota's entry into the Indian electric vehicle market. Anticipated to follow Maruti's EV launch by March 2025, Toyota's rendition is confirmed to arrive six months later, with showroom appearances expected by September-October 2025.
Sharing the 27PL skateboard platform with the eVX, the Toyota Urban SUV will be manufactured alongside its Maruti counterpart. Envisaged with two battery pack alternatives offering up to 550km of range, the Urban SUV promises a compelling electric driving experience.
In terms of dimensions, the Urban SUV mirrors the Maruti eVX, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, with a shared 2,700mm wheelbase. Stylistically akin to contemporary Toyota EVs like the bZ compact SUV concept, it features crisp lines, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and a rugged SUV silhouette reminiscent of the eVX.
While interior details remain undisclosed, similarities with the eVX are expected, providing ample space and a wealth of creature comforts, safety features, and technology.
Utilizing the 27PL skateboard platform, the Urban SUV will join the eVX in production at Suzuki's Gujarat facility in India. It will offer two battery pack options - a 60kWh unit with 550km range and an entry-level 48kWh variant with around 400km range. Toyota plans to offer both FWD and dual-motor AWD configurations for select markets.
Upon its release, Toyota's midsize electric SUV will contend with rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and its sibling, the Maruti eVX.
