It’s a WW1 Austrian Stanhelm reissued for WW2 before the M36 took its place. And they also had swastikas on them when Hitler went into power during 1933 and before. All mostly for political uses. Although many did see combat in the early stages of WW2 and other army’s mostly Nordic like Finland and Norway used them all throughout the war.
@@L4CKYSTR2K8 it’s an Austrian. You can tell cause of the height of the chinstrap lugs. That’s the main difference. They’re higher up than the German model
I recently bought a Austro Hungarian M17 painted in Äpfel grün, it has a Sharpnel hole and I still having some of the paint on it, it was found in Stalingrad
Nice video, I just bought an m16 stahlhelm just recently it was used in the Reichswehr after ww1 and has a dent on the side, possibly from a shrapnel. Greetings from Austria
Hey man, I have a transitional M17 Stahlhelm from a KIA soldier from Leningrad, it has a shrapnel hole and a lot of surface rust, it also has a lot of its painting. Should I follow the same steps as you? Did you only cleaned it using detergent?
Franklin 098 The decal is not gone just overpainted. It would have also been an National Shield and not an SS Decal. It’s in general better to leave the helmet as it is, as it is now still 100% Original, any fake decal would ruin that.
This model of helmet M17 was used by Germany forces at the World War II. I decided to recreate the model of the helmet that was used by the Wehrmacht troops after the Anschluss of Austria in 1938. www.militarytour.com/blog/the-german-m1935-helmet-history/ www.wehrmacht-militaria.org/shop/austrian-m17-heer-double-decal-transitional-helmet/
Yes you are right, it's helmet of World War I but it was reused by the Wehrmacht during WW2. It was produced around 1917, lost in 1943 and found again in 2018
No offense intended but if this is a restoration then I restore my dinner dishes every day. I guess I was expecting the dings knocked out, the rust removed, the holes filled, new paint, a new headband, a new chin strap, and replacement decals.
@@wwiituberestoration1011 it wasn't. It has the big lugs on the side of the helmet, which was an exclusive feature to the ww1 version. It is also slightly rounder which was another feature of the ww1 version.
Woah there. That's a gem right there but shouldn't it stay buried since the gunshots implies a lethal headshot? Then again, there were more than one shot, may be implying that it might've used as a bait for sniper fire. Good video tho, keep it up!

This helmet was found in German positions 1943 year.
Austrian reissue? After anschluss then?
Christopher Until 36 when the M36 stanhelms came out this was standard issue. So it could be many things.

@@wwiituberestoration1011 Can you advise on something? If so how would I contact you?
"Restoration" with superglue?
This is very nice, but it is Austrian WW1 M17 (doesn’t mean it wasn’t later an SA helmet or possibly given to the Wehrmacht due to some reason).
Ghostface879 they were reissued to the SS, and Wehrmacht
Toby Roth true, it could have been a transitional helmet as well.
Ich denke das es ein ww1 helm ist, der von den freikorps benutzt wurde
I think, it is an ww1 helmet, which is need by the freikorps after the first ww

I thought M17 Kuks were only issued to the Western front in WW2,
It seems the one who used this helmet on war died in a quickly and mercifully way.
WW1?
Yeah, but used during WW2
I think the guy who painted over of the tri-colour shield decal maybe got shot in the head
Is WW1 not WW2
