bout to get mine as its waiting to be transported! Biggest upset for me was the lack of a center console gear lever. Can you do a video on the retrofit?
Will do! I don't recommend it until I get the DriveLogic software working. I have a short posted about this swap. It only introduces issues and shifting up/down using it does not work. It is an M4 Competition shifter; if you want to get up/down shifting, get a regular pre-LCI shifter from a 20-22 M240i, M340i, or M840i. It is a direct, drop in replacement. There is a common problem with removing the trim though. The center piece does not want to come out. I'll cover it.
how do you get the m2 center console UI on your car? I can't do it through bimmer code and I love the m2 UI more than anything. Wish the M240i had a special center console!
You can code the HMI Theme variable to "BMW_M" but like you probably saw, it won't boot (properly) as the M graphics files are not present in the firmware. You need to _flash_ the head unit; not just _code_ it. Working on the tutorial by converting my M2 to an "M2 CS." I know you didn't ask, but: recommend you switch to ProTool as Bimmercode abstracts everything away. "Too easy" and doesn't encourage you to learn about how the car works under the hood.
It isn't (just) coding to swap to id8. For the infotainment you have to also flash the M2 firmware; the M theme/graphics/etc files do not exist. The gauge cluster ("DKOMBI8" module) is encrypted and requires a BMW server (... insider) to generate configs for your car. The cluster also requires a man-in-the-middle hardware module - and wiring changes - to emulate CAN bus msgs only present on a real M car. For the infotainment I'll post a tutorial soon, along with my triple zone ambient lighting, M2 fake engine noise, and more.
None. I have a YT short posted about it. Just be aware that you won't be able to up/down shift with it. The packets it sends for that are not compatible. Just get a diet-M-car pre-LCI shifter. That too, can drop in, no coding.
@@xPyro_G87 I've get a 2024 M340 coming so I'll definitely look into the pre lci shifter. do you know whether the pre lci shifter would function like it did in the pre lci? for instance, would you be able to shift the shifter to the left and have it switch into manual mode/sport transmission? or would it still function like the lci where you'd have to pull down twice to go into manual mode hopefully that question makes sense lmao
@@earthquake125_ I'm pretty certain it will function as a pre-lci shifter. The way the trans firmware (and any ecu firmware design) works, it's pretty flexible. But the whole point of the pre-lci retrofit isn't just for looks; it's for the +/- functionality. So up/down movements are handled properly from what I can tell. Let me know how it goes if you do it!
@@xPyro_G87just bought a 2024 M240i. I am so glad I found this. Will you ever make a video with the gear shifter that’s able to shift up and down as well?
Hey bro also have G42 i have my full screen coded by a guy from Asia to M cluster I’ll upload video soon but how did you get the M2 sounds from the speakers
The receiver audio module has to have it's firmware (not coding - firmware) replaced with G87 M2 flash files. I'm working with a friend of mine to allow uploading of custom audio.
Ok you’re the second person ive seen with an M gear selector in a non M car, kies motor sports had the same set up in their 330i. How do you do this? I cant imagine you just unplug the stock selector and install the new one without any coding.
In the Kies video they have a M*40i shifter, not an M car shifter! If we're thinking of the onramp drifting video haha. The iDrive7 shifter will fit right in. Same size, connector, CAN busses/data packets, etc. No coding required! I'm running an M4 Competition shifter. Drops in but the firmware on it is totally incompatible. Works for basics, but not up/down shifting and the M car buttons don't map properly to diet-M car drive mode buttons. Don't do what I do. Get a 2019-2021 non-M-car ("pre lci") shifter!
Has the M2 ADS been coded using bimmercode? Any way you could show us how it's been done? Got an M440i but I suppose it's the same principle for me to get the G82 sound.
A video is in the works. It cannot be coded; no. This is a full system firmware change, not just coding. I'm slowly learning more as a tweak and fuzz around this implementation. I've got "M2 brap on lift" working in my car purely by accident lol. It's entirely just the subwoofer but it's so convincing I thought it was real lmao.
Hi, I have a 240 just arrived in Italy. How did you get the gear lever? Is it stock or it's an after market part? Indeed I hate the small item they put into my MY.
Stock M4 Competition gear selector, 2022, from eBay. About 400 USD. Using it for a personal project. If you want +/- shifting you can just drop-in a gear shifter from a 2020-2022 model M240i, M340i, M840i, possibly others.
@@xPyro_G87 thank you so much! Did you make the swap by your self and or you needed the help of a tech guy? I know it can be an easy swap, only afraid of electronic incompatibility, light flashing in the dashboard etc.. Thanks again
@@andreapaglia4255 for a diet-M car shifter you don't have to do a thing - just drop it in. Same protocol, same coding, same connector, hell pretty sure same firmware on it. 😁 As for a "real M" shifter like I have, don't do it, too much stuff is incompatible. Have to do a lot of hacky coding in the body control module just go get Sport modes back 🙃
You cannot pay me - the reason I'm working on all this stuff is because too many people on Instagram have been asking for the same. But I work in cybersecurity and it's a bit wild to just let some instagrammers open a VPN tunnel to your computer lol. The process for swapping the M theme is very, very similar to the AWD/RWD switching; and it's not something that can be done with coding alone. The factory diet-M firmwares do not have the theme files necessary. Coding it will just cause your infotainment to not boot. I'll tackle the cosmetic stuff first since it's easier. I might be trading this car in for an M2 soon and if I do; I'll absolutely be posting it before then.
In very short since I fucking hate gatekeepers lmao: using eSys you more or less do a software update on certain modules in the car but flash incorrect firmware files by changing your vehicle descriptor and/or editing your flash procedure ("TAL") file to use the software ID numbers of real M cars. Vehicular DIY's "M-Track Module" video covers this process similarly-enough.
In the M-lite firmware it's only in the infotainment screen under Adaptive Content; but the instrument cluster widget is rendered by the infotainment and that's just a coding option. Do note that turning that on breaks a couple other features like shortcuts to Sport Individual; the ability to control Iconic Sounds (I have that on a shortcut to close the valves in sport mode when cops are around). etc.
The microphone is built into the Insta360 Ace Pro (and is OK but the dynamic compression is AWFUL!!) All modern BMWs pump in a TON of fake engine sound. You basically can't hear the engine over the radio at just 1/3 volume without it.
Would love to hear this with no asd, period!!! cannot find any videos with it off. The fake engine noise sucks but the fake upshifts are absolutely unbearable.
I just recorded a tea run; had M2 ASD on going there and shut it (FULLY) off by improperly configuring it. You might think it's annoying but mate, with stock exhaust, the road is louder than a downshift to 5000 RPM lol. Even with my rear seats folded down to hear better. It's rough. With it off I hit rev limiter a LOT taking off from a stop if I have music on. I forget it's in manual mode and can't hear/see/feel a THING.
