M240i hacking update: I traded up to a G87 M2 (and promptly took some cute fursuiter out on a track date uwu). This is one of the first laps I ran. Car has ~1,400mi on the odometer here. Car is completely stock except for Kenda KR20A (275/35/20) on the factory rear tires. All DSC systems off. NOT XDELETE! XDelete required pre-june-21-ish DSC module which was upgraded in the middle of iDrive7. Some 2022s can work. NONE of the iDrive8 ('panoramic screen') models will support it... Possibly ever... I'll go into detail soon.

I'm looking to buy an m240i with xdrive, its 2022, how do i check if its compatible with xDelete? The vin checker dumps "compatible" on every model, even on 2024 and i dont believe its true.
@@FifaRafa-r3h It isn't. The VIN checker I suspect is only checking the type code (characters 3-6 of the VIN if recall). Only a very small number of '22s work - I've only heard from one person. You can download the app and it'll tell you, for free. But when I post my walk thru of how to do it, I can promise you it will work just fine. Just be aware that the XDrive models have narrower rear axles than RWD models to save/offset the added weight. It isn't a problem on stock power levels but just good to know.

Are these cars hard to transition? I notice that when transitioning, you bring the car back to center first before swinging it to the other direction, instead of making it one fluid motion. Too much grip?
@@DennyHong-v7c Just gonna out myself and say that out of about 30 laps, these two (the third and fourth lap in the car ever 🤔) are the only laps I didn't spin or have to restart. Way, way too much grip for this yeah. I had 275 P Zeroes up front from factory that would become uselessly greasey after 3 consecutive laps. 275 wide Kendas out back because SimpleTire straight up forgot to ship the other set (245 Kendas). Last event of the season and wasn't gonna sit it out. I have PTSD from a turbo Miata that makes it almost impossible for me to stay balls deep on a sweeper; but I know that's what I need to do. I'm lifting at the worst time - then grip up right as I'm too late to throttle out. Sometimes it straights instantly. Sometimes I let off and I'm riding it out sideways for 20-50 feet (!). I'm straight up doing something wrong and trying to fix it lol.
@ damn it sounds tough, maybe some camber plate upfront and less way less grip in the rear helps. But yeah I’ve heard these ediffs are unpredictable.
Before anyone asks: I'm not gaslighting you. I have filmed and am working on the M240i/M340i XDrive-to-RWD flashing. Right now. No - I will not do it for you. No - I don't want you to DM me or worse, No - you aren't going to pay me for it. I've recorded tutorials for any-Gseries-BMW-to-M2/M4CS audio amp/fake engine sound. On my instagram (xPyro_G87) I have shorts showing that in action. Those tutorials open the door to flashing your M-Lite XDrive car to RWD by showing you how everything works under the hood. It takes 30 seconds to switch between XDrive and RWD but if I show you the LITERAL *ONE BIT* (not even BYTE!) that controls it, without first walking you through how to create partial backups to mix-and-match XD/RWD configs, you could end up in a pre-crash subroutine that thinks you're an AWD car while configured as a RWD car - thus the DME's torque reductions are halved; or, twice as much torque is sent to the rear wheels in treacherous conditions. It's important that you don't just "follow the steps" but you understand what you are changing while doing it. This comment has nothing to do with my G87 drifting video - I'm just answering you because I know you guys have been waiting over a damn year for me to tell you how. The only reason I haven't done so (I have, in comments lol) is for safety. Too many G20s getting trashed in wrecks. We have to do better. 😭 PS: Everything I know, I learned from Vehicular DIY. Just saying.

I have the 2025 LCI DME software on my ‘24 G87, in combination with the CS transmission software and CSL diff/steering software. Runs smooth without codes etc. Would really recommend this!

I've watched your other videos and am really intrigued by the m2 cabin sound on your m240i. How doable is it to get that firmware onto an m240/m340i?
@@gavin9627 Without hesitation, it is the easiest thing to do of all the mods. Once I get over this throat bug preventing me from speaking, I'll do make a how to on putting M240i sounds on my M2 to demonstrate it 😂 The audio amp firmware, like all other ECUs, have signature validations. I challenged a very skilled hacker friend of mine (who is prominent in the Nintendo emulation development community - hint, a lot of analog signal processing; Active Sound Design is generated on the fly, it isn't sound files!) to reverse engineer it to allow customizing of the sound it generates. So far he's extracted all of the audio alert sounds and has figured some checksums out. But a lot of work remains.
@@gavin9627 Huge update. I put the M240i engine sound on the M2 and I didn't hate it. Then I put the M4 CS firmware on and almost came LOL. And you can run the CS firmwares, too! Have all the steps/process recorded.

@@gavin9627 Year has no bearing in firmware. :) I have a 24 M2 running 25 M4 CS audio amp firmware for the engine noise change (not only a newer year, but requires a different bootloader which I didn't do, and that M4 is iDrive8.5 and I ran iDrive8 firmware). The only thing that will stop you cross-polinating firmwares like this, is bootloader signature validations. The firmware must be written by BMW & it must be compiled for the same "HWEL" (Hardware Electronics, physically).
How did you install that gear shifter?
Pull the old one out, drop the new one in! :) Get an iDrive7 "Pre-LCI" gear shifter knob. The module is known as a "GWS" ECU (the EGS7 is the trans controller itself). Any iDrive7/iDrive8 BMW shifter can be interchanged across any models. Just get one with the buttons that match to your features (parking radar, 360 cam, etc). If you do what I did and get a BMW M shifter (this one is from an M4) you won't be able to +/- shift which is the whole reason I got it. The buttons are also misaligned so you lose access to sport mode without wonky Body Control Module coding. Just getting an iDrive7 non-M shifter will give you the full functionality. I have heard rumors that someone who is working on a groundbreaking Finland-only service in the US 👀 has solved how to get +/- shifting working when using an ///M shifter in an M-Lite car, but I haven't spoken to him directly.
Any reason the cs csl flashes are not going to work on the g87 like the LCI does ? are those totally different dme tables vs the stuff done in the LCI update?
@@torentmonkey At the end of the video I flashed the M4 CS SWFK onto my G87's DME. It immediately failed with the drivetrain malfunction error on the infotainment. The banter about the error code at the end of the video (and my pinned FSC code comment) are how BMW is using certificate cryptography (the same stuff that HTTPS is based on, loosely - good, secure tech) to give you a sort of "license" for running that calibration. The car would start and drive but I didn't bother. Those calibrations won't work because BMW servers have not given my DME the FSC code. It isn't something that can be generated. Requires BMW private keys. I do question if an M4 Comp XDrive calibration would run. Fraction more power and weight. But I dont know if an FSC code is required for that category of vehicle. Again, I'm sure someone else has already tried it. Maybe I'll try it later. Shrug.
Would you be able to load M4 CS software with your DME unlocked?
@@stekkis With an unlocked DME, it is not impossible that one could modify the firmware binary file to not perform the FSC code check. But you would very much be on your own. It's a lot safer to just stick with off the shelf remaps.

how do you get the m2 center console UI on your car? I can't do it through bimmer code and I love the m2 UI more than anything. Wish the M240i had a special center console!
You can code the HMI Theme variable to "BMW_M" but like you probably saw, it won't boot (properly) as the M graphics files are not present in the firmware. You need to _flash_ the head unit; not just _code_ it. Working on the tutorial by converting my M2 to an "M2 CS." I know you didn't ask, but: recommend you switch to ProTool as Bimmercode abstracts everything away. "Too easy" and doesn't encourage you to learn about how the car works under the hood.

I have the cs trans software, I think the G87 will survive that no problem if you arent abusing launch mode. The differential software I will not play around with, the hardware and mounts are much stronger. Looking forward to a tutorial on the M2 LCI flash. You've been saying tutorials since the G42 but still we are waiting 😊.

A "Private" staff-only day at Lake Erie Speedway; hence no barriers or cones were out. Track ownership gives a small group of ~20 of us free reign of the property so long as we're respectful/safe about it. Disclaimer: I am not staff; but I have done media for their 3-day "MatsErie" events. If you ever get the chance, definitely check it out. Amazing atmosphere.
**Update: do NOT attempt to launch the car with this setup!** 1) So that 1F2102 is an error caused by FSC enable codes not being present on the DME to "unlock" the extra power. Totally reasonable. This was the "limp code" I saw people mentioning and it does apply to the 2 series DME. FSC codes are PKI/certificate based so that entire approach is a write-off since I, unfortunately, don't have a quantum computer. 🙄 2) The M4 CS transmission firmware raises the torque limiters in 1st gear (and probably others?) enough that, when I tried to launch the car, torque climbed to 313ft/lbs, up from ~220ish ft/lbs when stock. If you assume a 2x torque converter output on the 8HP-76, this means 740 (out of 760, hence "8HP-76") newton-meters made it to my input shaft. If you calculate 5:1 ratio in 1st gear and 3.15:1 final drive ratio... Launching the car with this setup sent ~9,800ft-lbs to my rear axles. The back end started bouncing even tho I stood on the brakes. At 0mph, boost spiked to 19psi. The M4 CS surely has beefier driveline components vs. a base model G87 (I haven't checked part numbers yet). So in that regard, you have to be GOD DAMN careful launching your car. It is not out of the question that my back wheels started to slip because the DSC module pulled pressure off of my rear brakes to stop me from snapping something. But that's just speculation.

how do you have the new HUD and screens but the old shift stick? Did you swap it in?
Shifter is from an M4, not from the "old" diet-M cars. You can, however, just swap it in. It is a drop in replacement, no configuration needed.
Question.. I have this but 2024.. when it says warmup. Do you wait till it’s off to drive?
I never see "warm up" because I remote start it before I head out, and you should too. 🤭
@murkman_D I built mine and forgot to add remote start so i purchased it after but got used to not using it somfor ur question i live in ny and it be cold af I always wait for the warm up to disappear and then drive but I think if u got extra 2-3 mins u should wait for the whole engine to warm up

Yes, you can bash limiter all day in M mode (pretty sure in D mode too). Yes, it has the same LSD as the G87 M2; but with a couple less clutch disks since it makes less power.
Without a doubt every single time I used to wireless charger in my 2024 M340i my phone overheats and barely charges. BMW refuses to fix, after I spent $62,000 on a vehicle. Quite disappointing.
@@luke9173 The charger itself never got warm in my experience but three Android phones have also overheated when using it w/ AAuto. Nor was it, or the built in Type C charger, enough to *actually* charge the phones during. Wired only outputs 10watts. I can't think I agree with you about the overheating, unless you mean without car play as well. But what I can agree with you is disappointment. This charger is so goddamn flaky and how come our dorky panoramic screens can have a cute internal cooling fan, but nothing to blow a gently breeze to keep our phones cool? 😭

@@Bigguns761 I drove probably half of the 27k miles I had the car, with it off. It's a software hack to force a config from a different car.
the M8 is not Xdrive ? and why did he not use launch control ? I have a 2023 m240i xdrive. love the car.
@@Bigguns761 All "M" "Competition" models are XDrive including his. BMW does not allow you to use Launch Control until the first oil change has been performed after 1200 miles. His car was still very new.

I've been trying to find some sort of diagramming software to make it easier to understand how everything works. Just haven't found the right thing yet. Sure. It's not what you might think actually, haha. I had muuuch better control with the M240i. 😬
A better tire solves that problem. The two tire options they give you on these cars are both subpar traction wise for a car with this much torque.
