there is no way to ensure starting with a hammer, or what hammer upgrade you get (without the assistance of mods). certain weapons really like starting with hammer (beowulf, achilles), while some actually prefer to start with a boon (funnily enough, hera is one of these. starting with a hammer isnt the worst, but you really want your cast boon early). so no, speedrunners never reset for chamber 1 hammer. however, very often in unmodded we DO reset for a specific hammer upgrade (charged shot on beowulf, flurry jab on achilles). hera is one of the more hammer flexible weapons (flurry is ideal for me, but triple and twin are great as well. my first sub6 started with point blank lol). to be honest, resetting for a specific hammer is a real pain and one of the main reasons people started playing modded categories more frequently. personally, its why i always stick to something like hera or hestia when playing unmodded; those weapons can roll with a variety of hammers so its not too bad. as an aside, the worst odds for ideal starting hammer upgrade is beowulf with charged shot, which is i think a 3/13 chance to get in your hammer? dont remember exactly but tht feels correct

what's the reason for pausing at the beginning of chambers? especially in the temple of styx. I assume before entering a chamber it's to decide without time pressure but why after?
its a little bit sweaty but for styx chambers i pause to quickly figure out how i want to route through the room; small mistakes really add up in those chambers. i also do this in asphodel sometimes since the difference between being able to hit an enemy before it jumps vs missing as it jumps is quite big

There are a couple of reasons why we choose these specific heats. Extreme Measures 2 (EM2), makes the Lernie arena much smaller and makes it easier to 1) group heads together to kill them simultaneously, and 2) simply traverse from one head to the other. It does increase the Fury's health slightly, but this is usually not a significant issue and is outweighed by the benefit of EM2. Forced Overtime (FO) is used primarily because it speeds up enemy spawns, shortening the time in between waves. While this isn't relevant on Hera, some aspects utilize boons such as Static Discharge (status effect Jolted), which procs damage when enemies attack. As a result, faster attacking enemies means more damage. There are a few other similar boons that benefit from FO. FO1 vs FO2 is up to the player generally; FO2 won't be faster if you end up just getting hit more and having to play safe to not die. However if you can handle FO2, it is recommended for almost every aspect. Hope that clears things up!

L1 cast is also very common for cast weapons like hera or beowulf, makes loading a lot easier. i dont actually know how common the two bindings together are, but it works for me. hope that helps, and thank you!
i do not, this is an unseeded run so i have no knowledge of the run going in (thats what the death at the beginning is there to show). unseeded runs are pretty much going in blind. pausing is mainly to make decisions without passing In Game Time (IGT), as well as sometimes to wait out my lag lol. pausing has nothing to do with the rng in the game. if you'd like to see an actual seeded run where people use a known seed and manipulate rng to get a near perfect run, check out this incredible run by vorime, the current seeded WR: ruclips.net/video/BmSBaC4-Kds/видео.html

In the beginning you had the reflection that reduces your cast to 1 and then you start the run with the reflection that gives you 3 casts. Is this faked?
the previous run that the video starts on has Routine Inspection 4 on to make resetting easier; it wipes the entire mirror so my cast number goes back to the default 1. Before I start the actual run you can see me take off all Routine Inspection from the Pact, which reactivates Infernal Soul on the mirror and gives me my 3 casts for the next run
fiery presence, chthonic vitality, death defiances, greater reflex, boiling blood, infernal soul, deep pockets, thick skin, family favorites, dark foresight, gods pride, fated persuasion. for reference you can also see which mirror options i have picked at the victory screen in the end, its all listed in a small bar at the top. let me know if you have questions about any of these!

Survival rooms actually pause the In Game Timer (IGT), so since this run was an IGT speedrun, we want survival rooms. If you watch any RTA (real time) speedruns, those take Tight Deadline to avoid survival rooms for the reason you mention though
@@croven2103 I see! That’s why I asked cause I new I could’ve missed something. Good shut!
@@croven2103 even your sudoku is meta 😂
can I ask what your mirror is?
fiery presence, chthonic vitality, death defiances, greater reflex, boiling blood, infernal soul, deep pockets, thick skin, family favorites, dark foresight, gods pride, fated persuasion. for reference you can also see which mirror options i have picked at the victory screen in the end, its all listed in a small bar at the top.
let me know if you have questions about any of these!
@@croven2103 tysm!
Wow. Just got my first sub 10 min run (09:53) and thought it was good. I need to keep improving... 😂

How do you shoot so far without changing?
this is due to my hammer, Flurry Shot. It allows for arrows to come out instantly just by tapping the attack button, which is very useful on Hera.
@@croven2103 neat!
why 9 heat instead of 0?
What is any heat wr?
He has 9 heat though...
The category "Any Heat" means 'complete a run with any heat settings you would like'. It's basically the Any% equivalent for Hades, just finishing one run. A 0 heat run, a 9 heat run, or a 64 heat (lol) would all be eligible for this category
@@croven2103 thank you! Wouldn't that become pointless if people were going for record time right. I mean... Every one would pick no heat to try and rush it...
@@calaiart Actually, some heat settings are preferred to help go faster. I posted a comment about it below so I'll just copy and paste it right here:

why do you keep pausing?
most of the time its just to see what the next room rewards are and make a decision without wasting in game time. sometimes i use them to scope out a room and see which enemies/where they're placed before i clear them out
Stop. I was upset enough by the Beo run.
This is too much. I demand you quit so that I can keep my T100 spot T-T
if anyone can do sub 5 its croven

"Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about?"
It is a shame you used family favorite over privileged status. You had two status effects right there and would have shaved off around 30 secs.

speedrunning any game will always be a joke competition unless it's done with witnesses or at a public arena.
why?
@@DragonD_Dojima because its too easy to cheat, like with hades anyone can go edit the script files to adjust the base move speed by just a little bit
@@johnbigelson7471 sure I guess but there's always people trying to cheat no matter the competition
@@DragonD_Dojima yeah but if its a competition in a public place its not like people can bring their own pcs,
The issue with that is that it makes speed running much less accessible. I agree that it is an unmoderatable thing when done from peoples homes, but a majority are not doing this for money and just for fun. If we limit speed runs to just those who have a “speed running moderator” or whatever in their area, I don’t think many people would actually be interested. Like, there is games done quick but that’s a charity, but otherwise I can’t really think of any speed running events otherwise. Idk just seems like it’s not worth it
