This is my favourite song from this new album. I listened this like 200 times already. Beautiful and technically very difficult to sing. I wish I was good enough to sing it that well.
Just saw Josh here this week in Syracuse ... What really moved me about this song was the piano .. his pianist played this finger to nothing on this song .. the piano part to this song is like constantly moving ... I shouted out to give accolades to this pianist .. which he did...what I would had like to ask is to for the pianist to play a portion of that song by himself just to hear the moving progression of that piano part.. the ladies next to me thanked me for the wanting of precognition for/to the pianist. I came to this video just to hear it again .. ( I HOPE YOU SEE THIS POST JOSH !!!) He nicknamed his pianist and guitarist "angel fingers"
Hope you play George in your Broadway musicals ahead, because your vibrato and acting gift would be such an extraordinary plus Love that play, many thanks, sweet rest Josh🌠🌃🗽🌌⭐️✨🌟💫🙏
Josh Groban would be FANTASTIC in the role of George! He is such a great singer and actor and his voice is perfect in this, as in everything he sings. 🎶
Yes, she looks for me - good. Let her look for me to tell me why she left me As I always knew she would. I had thought she understood. They have never understood, And no reason that they should. But if anybody could... Finishing the hat, How you have to finish the hat. How you watch the rest of the world From a window While you finish the hat. Mapping out a sky. What you feel like planning a sky. What you feel when voices that come Through the window Go Until they distance and die, Until there's nothing but sky And how you're always turning back too late From the grass or the stick Or the dog or the light, How the kind of woman willing to wait's Not the kind that you want to find waiting To return you to the night, Dizzy from the height, Coming from the hat, Studying the hat, Entering the world of the hat, Reaching through the world of the hat Like a window. Back to this one from that. Studying a face, Stepping back to look at a face Leaves a little space in the way like a window, But to see - it's the only way to see. And when the woman that you wanted goes, You can say to yourself, "Well, I give what I give." But the women who won't wait for you knows That, however you live, There's a part of you always standing by, Mapping out the sky, Finishing a hat... Starting on a hat. Finishing a hat... Look, I made a hat... Where there never was a hat

As someone who does art, you really do get sucked into your work sometimes and forget the outside world. It's like you have blinders on and all you can see is the composition in front of you. Everything he describes I've felt and "the world of the hat" is so eloquent, and "look I made a hat!" has such child-like connotations and joy, coupled with "where there never was a hat," is very philosophical as well. It really is about life being a vacuum and broad-spectrum lens all at once. Details + the bigger picture constantly.

If you're good enough to sing it AT ALL, you're doing better than most.
Lucas MacCloud that feeling when your voice differs too much
Ditto!
Mandy's performance is impeccable. Josh does a great job with it as well.
"Beautiful and technically very difficult to sing" Sondheim!
Okay , I'm not a big Josh Groban fan.
I stand corrected , and in awe
This album showcases his voice to utter perfection !
BRAVO Josh !!!!!!!!!!!
I'm listening to the new album while I work from Home. So relaxing and dreamy his voice. Makes me want to invite him over for tea and a biscuit.
would invite him over too - but not for tea or biscuits 😊
+Elizabeth Johnston Oh my goodness, Elizabeth, you're too much!
I listened this song some days....
Fantastic.
What a Voice!
Power and Sensibility....
The Best!!!

Gahh.... I'm melting....

Finishing the hat, is there magic here?
Yes, she looks for me - good.
Let her look for me to tell me why she left me
As I always knew she would.
I had thought she understood.
They have never understood,
And no reason that they should.
But if anybody could...
Finishing the hat,
How you have to finish the hat.
How you watch the rest of the world
From a window
While you finish the hat.
Mapping out a sky.
What you feel like planning a sky.
What you feel when voices that come
Through the window
Go
Until they distance and die,
Until there's nothing but sky
And how you're always turning back too late
From the grass or the stick
Or the dog or the light,
How the kind of woman willing to wait's
Not the kind that you want to find waiting
To return you to the night,
Dizzy from the height,
Coming from the hat,
Studying the hat,
Entering the world of the hat,
Reaching through the world of the hat
Like a window.
Back to this one from that.
Studying a face,
Stepping back to look at a face
Leaves a little space in the way like a window,
But to see - it's the only way to see.
And when the woman that you wanted goes,
You can say to yourself, "Well, I give what I give."
But the women who won't wait for you knows
That, however you live,
There's a part of you always standing by,
Mapping out the sky,
Finishing a hat...
Starting on a hat.
Finishing a hat...
Look, I made a hat...
Where there never was a hat
Can someone get the instrumental version of this song.. I love it so much
( ruclips.net/video/9phN2QEtgEY/видео.html ) this is different & has a harsher sound to it but...

does anybody know what exactly means "finishing the hat"?
I was curious about this song too, I looked it up and found out it's about life. :)
(Hence, "Finishing The Hat")
Thanks!

i love your comment.
It's from Sunday in the Park with George, a musical about an artist who was too invested in his work and neglected his wife, family, and friends.
Still prefer Jake Gyllenhaal..
