    In this unsponsored video I share with you a 3 night/4 day road trip to Amsterdam in my Audi S4 TDI Avant. There are unfortunately 3 technical video glitches in this video that come about due to an incompatibility with Apple's video format and Adobe editing software, hopefully these do not affect your enjoyment.
    This trip came about because I'd booked a ferry to report on the new Clubsport reveal on 31/5 but decided against it. This date coincided with UK half term and DFDS were slapping on a £100 surcharge onto their £99 short break ticket right at the end of the booking. This led to me to look at alternatives via a price comparison website which led me to Irish Ferries. They were great when it came to swapping the dates over and adding a passenger and this positive experience continued on board. Highly recommended.
    www.irishferries.com/uk-en/Tr...
    Now they are fully run in, there will be a full review of the Turanza 6 tyre where I compare it to the sportier Bridgestone Potenza S001 which was originally on my car and consider many more factors than just fuel economy.
    This video can be divided into the following sections:

    Interesting comparison. We did that trip a couple of months ago in our old A4 B7 TDI Estate (2.0 Avant with 170 bhp) and we averaged just over 50 mpg. I can't wait to get one of these S4s... almost the same mpg as my current wagon, but soooo much faster! :) 70 mph in our car is 2k rpms in 6th.

    Great video as always. MPG was outstanding for the S4, puts my Ateca 1.6tdi to shame although admittedly I haven't taken it on a long run in a while. I liked the detail as well re location, Irish Ferries and the hotel. Keep up with the fantastic content.

    Hi Andrew and Kate a great video as ever and looks like you have both had a great time I would love to visit Amsterdam sometime I’ve done Maastricht and valkenburg and loved them and also Rotterdam and all interesting places looks like the Audi transported you both well and with great economy! Definitely a great way to travel must try the ferries again have been on euro tunnel in recent times but was always something about getting the ferry
    Not sure if you were aware if you staying near Dover the white cliffs are national trust and it’s great to see them and some lovely walks we’ve done it when holidaying in the area all the best to you both Daniel

    Love these car / travel vlog uploads Andrew. Keep them coming. Given me a few ideas for a few summer excursions to the continent with the family in our 23 A4 Avant 40tfsi Black Edition. Don't think we will achieve anything near the S4's mpg though. 😃

      Hey Richie, thanks for your support. I’m sure a steady cruise in Europe will get your petrol A4 pretty close, especially as someone got 39.8 mpg out of an RS4 (in another comment) !

  • @julianpalmer4674
    @julianpalmer4674 20 дней назад +2

    I have an RS4 on an 18 plate, on a good run (ambient temperature dependant) i have got 39.8MPG so 50MPG from your S4 should be easy.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  20 дней назад +2

      That's impressive for that car especially without the mild hybrid system of the S4.

    Not bad and good for me to know. I have a B9 2.0 tdi Avant Quattro as my daily and it's long term average is 44.5mpg. A trip like this would probably see 58-60mpg in the Netherlands at 60mph. UK to the tunnel/ferry would see 52-55mpg. Most of my driving is rural A and B roads and probably to a similar style to you - mostly stick to the limits with a little bit of occasional fun thrown in. Considering the S4 has an extra 140hp and 300NM of torque your figures are very impressive indeed.
    I look at the S4 as an upgrade from time to time, though as the type of owner who keeps the car for 5-8+ years I worry about the inherent mechancial issues (cam gears) with both the 3rd gen 3.0 V6 TDI and the 3.0 TFSI (cam followers) both require engine out to fix.

    I have a 2023 S6 Avant and just this week achieved a best commute (just over 40 miles) of 58.5mpg. I’ve seen over 50mpg regularly and long term average is about 45. I know there was some sort of update to the engine in around 2022 but don’t know if that’s what made the difference. It’s incredible for a 2-tonne estate car with this performance.
    My usual cruising speed is 75mph on the motorway, rather than trying to be madly frugal. But I do use the predictive cruise control most of the time.

    Nice trip but £75 just for parking! Think id rather have filled up with £75 worth of fuel and just had a good out n back blat somewhere nice in the UK........

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  20 дней назад +5

      You have to look at the bigger picture, the hotel was cheap and the car park was very secure (you couldn't walk in off the street). A good UK trip is to have a blat in Scotland but I did that last year, I will return but just knocking off all the easy destinations in Europe first. A big difference is that it's generally a lot less frustrating to drive around Europe than anywhere in the UK as anyone who has returned to the UK and driven up the M20 will attest.

    Is the efficiency not pretty unimpressive? Doesn't seem worth it for what you lose.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  18 дней назад +3

      What do you lose? It’s a seriously quick car when you want it to be (same torque as C7 RS6 but lighter) and it does over 50 mpg when you don’t. Plus it’s got a high quality interior the like of which we won’t see in an Audi again, loads of space, classy understated looks. It’s also EURO 6 emissions compliant so no charges in clean air zones any where in Europe, and low Co2 than equivalent petrol so less harmful to environment.

    • @MrMr1ish
      @MrMr1ish 18 дней назад +1

      @@volkswizard I'm sure it's a lovely wafter, just don't think the efficiency is particularly impressive. You lose the sound and driving experience of a proper petrol engine, there's more to just going 'quick'.
