Howard had left and Jesse, he was the lead singer on their very first album, took back over. This track is monumental because they invited Howard to sing on this song. He’s been gone for a few albums now. People argue who is better, Howard or Jesse, this song answers that question. It’s both.
Howard is an incredible vocalist both on the record and live, Leach is no match for him, Leach only sounds good on the record, but can’t do anything live ... Return Howard, Howard is Killswitch Engage !!!
Jesse leach was the first singer. He left the band suddenly fighting a major bout of depression. Howard jones was brought on for around 9 years, but had to quit due to his type 2 diabetes becoming unmanageable from the constant touring. after howard left they brought Jesse back on.
Jesse’s depression stemmed partially from the fact that he kept blowing out his voice. He’s in a much better place now, especially considering he had surgery last year to remove a polyp from his vocal chords.
@@dickvandyke1209 that and they were constantly touring at that time and he had just gotten married and I believe had a kid and wasnt able to spend the time he wanted to with his family and it took a major toll on him
T2D Warrior Howard has about the same case of depression as Jesse and left cause of that. He was on the edge of suicide and Adam D suggested he leave cause he hated touring. After i bought the cd and listened to this song for the first time in the truck i about beat my dash of the frame lol. Both of them together is what we KSE fans have wanted for along time and it did not disappoint
So glad you’re getting into this! So Rose of sharyn was a ballad written about the guitarist (I believe) mother. But they’ve always been aggressive and they’ve been around for 15+ years. The white guy was the original singer. He left and Howard stepped in, and they blew up. Then Howard left and Jesse came back, and they’ve done a few songs featuring either of the other singers.
They are amazing live I've seen them a dozen times. Been side stage in VIP at one show for first 3 songs. I've seen both Jesse Leach and Howard Jones perform. My favorite band of all time. They've helped me through ruff time. My favorite line is from Strength of the Mind " I've seen rock bottom and I smashed my fist against it"
Howard Jones has type 2 diabetes, a condition he has struggled with for numerous years. He cited his diabetes as the reason for his leaving of Killswitch Engage in 2012 and a year later, claimed it put him in a 3-day coma.
I saw them live December of 2018 before the album with this song was released so they didn't play this but the songs they did play....man it was an amazing performance!
Going to see Killswitch and Howard’s band Light the Torch in Philly on March 13th. I’m so pumped to see this song live with both of them! I’ve loved KSE since 2002.
Listen to as daylight dies. This band has always been very heavy, just always have beautiful bridges and breaks. This band literally saved my life as a person and as a musician
This band has been around for about 20 years. They had 2 singers in the band come together as one where they both have long tenures with the band. It's the best song and video the band has ever done.
I’ve seen them twice, once with Howard and once with Jesse on vocals. Both are amazing and to see them together on the same track and absolutely unheard of. Love this track and it just shows the brotherhood of metal.
Jesse was the KSE original singer, he left and started a band called times of grace with adam the guitarist, Howard had to leave due to health reasons so Jesse came back to KSE. Howard now has another band called light the torch that's completely badass.
This new album has great energy and excitement with it. Having Howard back was a big surprise for the fans. We still love him and the dual vocals make this a hit.
My hometown boys done good. They've been aggressive as hell for their entire 20 years. I DEFINITELY recommend seeing them live. It gave goosebumps to see my boy Howard

This is probably THE MOST MONUMENTAL moment for old (Jesse original vocalist) fans, old (Howard, second vocalist) fans and new (Jesse again) fans. Absolutely the BEST collaboration in music history.
Not only is this song amazing which you pointed it out....you reacting to this song doesn't give you the true nature of how amazing it really was having him back after that long! Always been agressive
They have always been heavy and aggressive. The song you did was a different version for the music video, maybe for marketing reasons or radio play because the original version is way heavier.

Because he’s been steady killin it with his group Light The Torch, formerly known as ‘Devil You Know’. Also a side project with guitarist Jarod Dines called ‘SION’ with full lengths LP. Howard is a true once in a lifetime true legend, and his work needs to be spread like the gospel. Much love brother🤙
Also, check out some Jesse stuff you may like from the Killswitch catalog: My Last Serenade, an early song. Then check out In Due Time, it’s a song from the album that marked Jesse’s return.
Dude you're going to LOVE Killswitch live! They are the most consistent players in the game when it comes to touring and keeping the same consistent energy from show to show. True athletes.
Theyve always been aggressive but a different type of aggressive. Jesse needed his time away and grew so much to be deserving of taking the spot back. Since coming back theyve had some amazing songs. Howard went hard and smooth too. And what I loved about this song in particular besides them coming together is that this song also was an fusion of both era's of killswitch. Styles collide.
Jesse was vocalist for their first two records Killswitch Engage (2000), and Alive or Just Breathing (2002), but he left because of his mental health. Howard joined, and they rose to prominence with The End of Heartache (2004), and As Daylight Dies (2006). After their 2nd self titled album Killswitch Engage (2009). Howard left in 2010. Jesse came back in like 2012, and he's been vocalist for 3 more albums now. Disarm the Descent (2014), Incarnate (2016), and Atonement (2019).
Rose of Sharon. The song was dedicated to Howard's mother who passed. That's why it was a bit lighter for a rock song. Yes, look at all their songs. You will be surprised.
Killswitch has had the good fortune of having not only 2 of the most talented vocalists in the genre in the band at different times, but also an absolute genius of guitar harmony and production in Adam D as well. Just a fantastic band who has put out nothing but good music. I recommend you check out both Howard and Jesse's other work as well - Howard is in Light The Torch now but also fronted a very aggressive band called Blood Has Been Shed in the early 2000's, and Jesse had a band called Seemless when he was out of KSE in the mid to late 2000's .
I've also seen them live a bunch of times, most recently just last month. I have a few videos that I shot on my iPhone on my channel of their performances from the last 5 years or so. Check it out.
Few things, looks like people have cleared up the lead singers for you.... got to check out the entire new album which is insanely sick!!! And lastly what a great song and video for all colors and walks of life to come together and enjoy. Ive loved hard rock and metal my whole life while listening to other forms of music but by for hard rock and metal is my favorite and over the last year I’ve been watching a lot of black people do reactions to music like this and most are jumping on board and falling in love with it which is awesome to me and then you watch this video and see the two singers representing both sides it just seems like a great song and theme for all of us watching and enjoying together. 👍 But I feel like we’ve been waiting for this song to come around from somebody and KS absolutely nailed it
The other song that features both singers is "irreversal" from the end of heartache album. When they recorded it they left some jesse parts in it but it's one of my favorite songs by them
Killswitch Engage was formed back in 2000 and Jesse was the vocalist. He was with the band for 2 years then left. Howard Jones replaced him and was with the band for 10 years and put out 3 albums with them and was nominated fir a grammy. Howard definitely helped make Killswitch big during his time with them. He then left in 2012 due to health and personal reasons. Jesse rejoined the band and of course, the rest is history. Howard has a new band called Light The Torch. Definitely check them out.
Been a Killswitch fan for 10 years, man. Always a quality heavy band with a very empowering, positive, message. Try the song "My Last Serenade" from their first album Alive or Just Breathing.
Kse is one of the ONLY "metalcore" bands of the genre that hit hard in the early 2000's has progressed so much in so many ways but always maintained n stayed true to there sound..and they are still putting out positive motivating tracks with devastating metal merit.... I have loved them since the first time I heard alive or just breathing...love Jesse miss Howard. I really wish they could just have both..I always say if there has ever been a reason for a band to have 2 singers... this is it. One.
WOW!!!!! THIS WAS UNBELIEVABLY GOOD PEAK THEEE HOWARD JONES!!!!! One of the best KSE songs of recent memory, I can't put into words how great it was to see/hear HJ appear on this track! Brought so much, and the video added so much too having him there was incredible, plus that classic Howard scream right at the end. Wow, such a great track. This competes in the top 10 already. #Impressed
Jesse left the band after Alive or Just Breathing album. Howard was hired and started End of Heartache album. I believe he left the band in 2012 for medical reasons and then Jesse came back. I'm stoked about this song. Both singers are amazing! To combine them into a single is amazing. They've collaborated before live doing eachothers songs but nothing like this. Imagine a tour together!!!
Any album Jesse is on is the more heavier stuff. Their first album (2000 self titled) is very heavy, as is Alive or Just Breathing. While Howard is a heavy dude too, Killswitch did get a little more, probably not the right word, melodic, with his albums (nothing wrong with that). When Jesse came back on as vocals, they started to embrace more heavy again, excluding a few songs of course, Jesse does some of their slowest songs too, haha. Rose of Sharyn is certainly the more mainstream popular song, seems like it started you off on the wrong foot which is a bummer. So yeah, maybe you'll like Jesses stuff rather than Howards. Solid vid/reaction.
Jesse was the first lead singer but he had gotten sick and took a leave while Howard took lead singer for 7 years. Jesse got better and wanted to come back, Howard agreed and that’s history. But Howard killed it with Jesse in this collab, this is my new favourite song. Badass.
Dude, KSE has always been aggressive and hard. Listen to their debut album. I'm not even a metal-core fan but I have a special place for KSE. I purchased their first album in 2005 and been a fan since. The first vocalist you see is Jesse(KSE first/original singer) and Howard(bald guy) is the second vocalist. This really is something special. It would be as if Bruce Dickinson and Paul Di'Anno did a song together.
They are amazing live!!! I've seen them probably 15 times, every time it's awesome! Their energy onstage is great, they always go all out in their live sets. They have a great catalog of music that you should definitely dive into more! One suggestion, stay away from the actual music videos of their songs. This one is an exception but a lot of their older songs were radio friendly and they added a lot of clean singing to them likely a label suggestion or requirement. I'd stick with lyrical videos when it comes to their older stuff, except maybe My Last Serenade, I think that music video has the album audio in it. Their lyrics are usually really deep and hit home with a lot of people, which I feel is what makes them so likeable. Seeing Jesse and Howard together on this video made me fuckin cry, I love how they only titled it as Killswitch Engage, and there is no featuring Howard Jones on there. Shows that they still treat him as one of the family, as they did with Jesse when he came back to the band after Howard left. Jesse and Howard have gotten pretty close recently too, which just fuckin warms my heart. They are a great group of guys and make some awesome music! Sorry for the long comment, definitely check more of them out and catch them live for sure!
100% everything you just said, man. They are ridiculously good live and they have such good energy. Yeah metal is aggressive but with Killswitch it's channeled in such a loving, positive, fun way and it really shows. I'm not just pumped they're working together on this but that after all the depression and anxiety they dealt with separately they've come together stronger for their individual challenges. God, I'm gonna cry again lmao
“When did they become so aggressive and so hard?” Oh dear friend, you have not heard anything. Listen to the entire first two albums with the original vocalist, Jesse. And then listen to the entire album of As Daylight Dies with Howard. And then look back at this as them just getting back into their familiar, old groove. Heh... To kickstart this though, here.... Come try this slice of pie. ruclips.net/video/4_i9SlWmmQo/видео.html
I have been conflicted between jesse and howard for the longest time.. i was a huge fan before howard came along and he won me over but jesse being back brings me back to the early days.. I love both vocalists in their own way. Life to Lifeless is where its at. sick reaction!
I stop listening to rock/metal back in 2002 or 03 . Around the time nu metal died. I've been listening to korn, deftones , manson and linkin park on repeat for the past 20 years.

It's crazy cause the white guy is the original singer. Howard was the second. So this song was huge moment for the fans. And the bands always been aggressive. Check out holy diver, my curse, and a few other just make sure you don't watch the music videos version for resending evil. It differs from the studio version.
Trust me on this. Huge KsE fan since their debut. You want to listen to This Fire Burns, Take this Oath, Wasted Sacrifice, Bid Farewell, Fixation on the Darkness (Both Jesse and Howard versions) When Darkness Falls, Daylight Dies, My Curse, In Due Time, Upraised (Embrace the Journey), Element Of One, Reckoning, Light In a Darkened World, The End of Heartache and Just Barely Breathing. These are just a few big hits, IMO.

👍 But I feel like we’ve been waiting for this song to come around from somebody and KS absolutely nailed it
Awesome reaction!! Killer track!
You should check out a lot of their other well known songs to see more aggressive stuff they've done. They deserve more listens and reaction videos!
Killswitch are the Gods of this style of metal
My first time watching your reaction videos. I gotta say I'm glad you don't pause the video every 15 seconds haha.
Yea I hate that shit
Another shot ..Rose of Sharon is a badass song, they've always have been Aggressive
I really wish they could just have both..I always say if there has ever been a reason for a band to have 2 singers... this is it.
One.
I recommend listening to all of killswitch engage, with both singers. It will make you appreciate this song even more.
WOW!!!!!
THIS WAS UNBELIEVABLY GOOD
PEAK THEEE HOWARD JONES!!!!!
One of the best KSE songs of recent memory, I can't put into words how great it was to see/hear HJ appear on this track! Brought so much, and the video added so much too having him there was incredible, plus that classic Howard scream right at the end. Wow, such a great track. This competes in the top 10 already.
#Impressed
Great review!!!
Howard Jones is in the band “light the torch” now!!!! He’s so badass
Solid vid/reaction.
they also did one song together back when jesse was about to leave. it was to introduce howard. it was my last Serenade and it was live
Adam Dutkiewicz is my favorite musician!
Howard has a new band called light the torch, and they are great!
Man watch the live killswitch dvd. Amazing!
This is the epitome of Killswitch's signature sound.
God I love killswitch
Yea dude. They go hard
I have been conflicted between jesse and howard for the longest time.. i was a huge fan before howard came along and he won me over but jesse being back brings me back to the early days.. I love both vocalists in their own way. Life to Lifeless is where its at. sick reaction!
This band has been around for well over a decade lol where have you been?
I stop listening to rock/metal back in 2002 or 03 . Around the time nu metal died. I've been listening to korn, deftones , manson and linkin park on repeat for the past 20 years.
The Adventures of TNT they started in 99’ I believe but I know for sure that they had an album in 2000. Either way my friend, they are a great band and I’m glad that you finally discovered them. Nu Metal is making a comeback. Korn has released new songs ❤️
It's crazy cause the white guy is the original singer. Howard was the second. So this song was huge moment for the fans. And the bands always been aggressive. Check out holy diver, my curse, and a few other just make sure you don't watch the music videos version for resending evil. It differs from the studio version.
This song just came out and unleashed is a new song too and a good one to look at and if you have not looked at The End Of Heartache is damn good to
Trust me on this.
KSE. Metalcore gods. Glad u enjoyed.
Listen to "Embrace the Journey... Upraised" by Killswitch Engage. Its my favorite track off of their last album titled "Incarnate."
If you havent already, Jinjer released their BRAND NEW single Judgement and Punishment
Killswitch Engage - My Last Serenade 🤘🤘🤘
