Lots of very good info on how and what works for you. Also liked the that you explained what did not work so well and the process you went through to get the best results for yourself. As a new Fuji owner your post was most helpful with much solid information. Will be looking for more episodes as you more forward here on RUclips.
Just as we published this I received my X-T4 which we will do a video on very soon! Please let me know if you have any questions about the video rig :)
This is an outstanding debut RUclips video! Really informative content, excellent production value, and very personable presentation. Thank you for making this video ... You've got a new subscriber!
Thanks, I really mean it! I’m working on episode 5 now which is behind the scenes of a video shoot, hoping to get better presenting to camera as time goes on 😀
It’s 2023 and I still film on the XT3 and I don’t plan on upgrading. Comparing the specs to current cameras, the XT3 still holds up and it will continue to hold up for a few more years.
Honestly you are 100% right when it comes to image quality for both photo and video. Like X-T4 literally isn't any better IQ and the 40mp X-H2 and X-T5 might technically be sharper but I don't care and don't use them in 8k mode. I did enjoy using the X-T4 and having IBIS and bigger batteries though, but if you can live without that (IE: stabilised lens or tripod/gimbal etc) then yea, absolutely no point in upgrading.
Wonderful video. Thanks for this brilliantly informative piece. I am going to take your advice and instead of buying the smallrig top handle, I'm going to go for 2 side handles.
Building up my rig this weekend when the parts show up. I'm building it with the X-T3 because I already own it. I'll get another camera with IBIS someday, but most of the time it's me sitting in front of the camera on a tripod, so net super essential. Need to figure out what software to use, any time I shoot 4K in anything over 100mbs my Sony Movie studio can't show me the video, I only get audio.
I'm a huge fan of my fuji XT3 & soon XT4, and I especially love supporting smaller channels. I find they don't try to sell you the latest new gear as often, but have real on the ground experience to share. I'm a small hobbyist but keep getting asked to shoot video for different people so I keep absorbing information to round out my skillset. Outstanding video tips, and liked how you explained why you used what you have now with your rig/gimbal setups and showing what didn't work and why. Would love to see some behind the scenes video of a shoot showing some of the decisions put into gear placement and shot development. I'm hoping to put a small rig on my XT4 so I can get a more "live" feel than tripod for some of my interviews and just got a atomos ninja as well for a music video someone wants to do. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together, I know it can be a lot of work. Oh - and the broll footages you shared looked really awesome!
Thanks, the next video coming out is an X-T3 and X-T4 kitchen shoot BTS. I hope to have it out in a few days. I agree on the smaller channels often having a better signal to noise ratio 😀
Greetings, excellent, to be your first video on RUclips, it is quite good, I congratulate you, the voice is somewhat warmed but I imagine it is part of the nervousness of the first time .... I have subscribed to your channel, so you have a new follower ... Thanks for sharing the information on the xt 3 with all those video accessories, I'm getting mine and I'm learning how to use it, I come from nikon d750 and the change is quite nice but you have to learn to master it ... Greetings from Venezuela.
@@Isaac_Insoll Thanks friend, I am taking my first steps with fuji XT3, learning to interact with it, I love the world of video, I don't have much experience, but I have been practicing and studying a lot to be able to understand and have a professional criterion which allows me to grow As a videographer, of course we are open to learn, it will always be of interest for my growth, I have simultaneously acquired a ronin sc and a feelword 6s plus monitor to support my entrepreneurship, thank you I will be attentive to your teachings and videos Greetings.
Great video. I recently inherited xt3 because my wife just got an xt5, and I wanted to create better video content using fuji instead of a GoPro. Look forward to seeing your next video maybe on editing and what software you use. Subscribed!
Awesome, thanks for the sub and feedback. I did a “X-t4 for videography” video a few months ago which is 2 years newer than this video. It would 99% apply to X-t3 as well so I’d suggest that and I’ve added “editing software” to my todo list but it’s basically “davinci and generate proxies as I shoot h265 on Fuji and like fast scrubbing” 😀
Always fun to see other’s rigs. Thanks for sharing brother! And I agree with the monopod movement over tripod when possible. If you like the 23mm length, give the f2 version a try. I have both versions and as many other will tell ya, the 23 f2 is one of the best for autofocus. Subbed to show my support. Cheers man! Tuan
I bought a 23mm F2 as my wife kept stealing the 1.4. I found the AF better but not enough to compensate for f1.4 bokeh and “magicness” of the image so I ended up selling it.
The first small rig is something I'm looking to do. I have the xt3 and for my job, I'm mainly photos, but when I want to switch over to video for bts, I want to make sure footage is stable. That sound sounds great plus having the neck strap.
Sweet, yea if you want to do both photo and video it will definitely be a “best compromise of both”. I did a “long term X-t4” video recently that includes a mini build if you haven’t already seen it. Thanks for commenting 🔥
@@Isaac_Insoll So when you're hand holding it, do you still get a bit of shake or is it noticeably better compared to without? I understand that the added weight is a large factor. Can I get away with not having a handle on the shutter side?
Yep, I have the side handle on about half the time. I think the secret to more stable handhold (aside from technique) is half “more weight” (eg cage, battery etc) and half “better balance” like even just adding a battery grip to my X-t4 made hand holding smoother as it’s a bit more weight *and* it’s in a good spot
Just put the 18-55 lens on and you should be OK in terms of stability. It’s not the best OIS, but it’s good enough. Also the 2.8 up to 20mm it’s really great, not to mention the small size.
Good point, that’s a great lens and actually the lens I started with. I think IBIS from a more modern camera plus the 16-55mm is a nicer solution though as you get constant f2.8 all the way through and 16mm is noticeably wider than 18mm when you are working indoors. But yea the value of 18-55 can’t be beat 😀 Thanks for watching!
Thanks man. I love the grips as it’s all in one with no extra wires or anything. On my x-t4 I haven’t purchased a grip yet but it’s definitely lasting much longer!
@@Isaac_Insoll haha! I hear ya. I'm not sure if youve seen all the other vids on the subject but yours is the most practical and well broken down. Essentially because of you, myself and probably thousands to come will save/spend money because of you. If you had affiliate links for all these products you would've probably made a good chunk of cash by now!
Thanks Mike. I’m planning two videos soon: X-T4 IBIS vs gimbal vs no IBIS handheld and a “grading canon log and Fuji log together”. Is there any fuji content you would like to see?
Great, I’m very interested in learning how well IBIS works on the X-T4. I’m using a Moza AirCross 2 with my X-T3 and I still have challenges getting smooth footage, even with a OIS lens. I’m not exactly Ninja man, but I’d expect better. While not Fuji content specific, I’d really like to see an analysis of HLG vs. F-Log using the X-T3/4. I’ve played around with HLG and gotten decent results, but it’s hard to get any definitive information. It does seem to have better dynamic range, but the downside is the relatively high ISO minimum (1k).
@Mike McNelly I only ever shoot log and have never used HLG before but I have been curious about it so I’ll do a bit of research and then make a video with my own testing. Thanks 😀
Yep for sure. I upgraded from X-T3 to X-T4 and the battery life and IBIS both made my life way easierfor videography. I think you still get better results when you combine IBIS with “good handheld technique” and rigging it out a bit to add some more weight, but I’d say it goes from unhandholdable X-t3 to easily handholdable X-t4. I’ve got an X-t4 video on the channel and a multi brand IBIS comparison if you are interested.
besides the fact that you end all of your sentences on a high note, like you're asking a questions, this video is cool haha. For those who haaven't bought the grip yet, I'd recommend you buy the Anker Powerbank recommended by Fujifilm themselves. It makes my camera last forever, up to 8-10 hrs shoot with 0 issues. The grip will only make u last up to 2 hours max
That's what I've got on order. Forget the grip and those tiny Fuji batteries, even the small Anker batt gets you 10,000 mah of power and it can clamp right to your rigs cage with the smallrig power pack clamp.
I’ve got the grip and the anker bank. I love the grip as it lasts me a whole shoot and adds weight in the right spots. I’m now on X-T4 and the grip is great coz it gives you the headphone output that got removed from the body.
Thanks for this video. How long time do you take to move from the first set up to the gimbal set up? I ask this question as during a wedding shooting, we have no time to loose... Second question maybe, how long time do you take to remove the dsrl inculing grip and lens from the first set up? Thanks!
I have two cameras so one is set up for gimbal and one is fully rigged out for handheld work. So I just put down one and pick up the other. I would hate to be switching on and off gimbal during a shoot as there isn’t time
