!!A little clarification!! To add to the part about blackwashing. After reading through some of the comments, I agree that in some cases changing a white characters' race would be wrong. For example, if that character is used for commentary on racism/power imbalance/privilege and things like that. In that case if you change them from white to something else, it would go against the message and purpose of said character. This didn't cross my mind during scripting, but it's important to mention as well I think. Other than that I still don't mind if people edit/redesign characters for fun, don't try to "fix" them or act superior because of it lmao.
I think that there are some white characters whose remaking black would be stupid (for example Snow White from Disney because the strong part of her identity was that she has veeeeery light skin) but for the most time its compleatly fine and its stupide to complain
I see Pinkie as a short, black, chubby girl but also I see her as a tall, silly, red head with freckles. I've made HCs of characters (e.g: Dipper pines and Dib membrane) and I've gotten people tell me I'm "chronically online" because I made them autistic and gave Dipper PTSD (and if you've seen the show, he probably does).
What annoys me is when people make stereotypical headcanons (like for example a headcanon of a tomboy girl being trans) Or when people headcanon a guy who is feminine as trans
this, i see it a lot with flamboyant/feminine guys being headcannoned as gay, even if they have zero even remotely romantic interactions with another male character
i absolutely DESPISE headcanons based off blatant stereotypes😭 not every bubbly energetic person is pansexual and not every strong, sassy woman is a lesbian
My problem with hcs is that I've seen plenty of people who claim that their hcs are canon. It can be annoying because they are spreading misinformation about characters. There was this one person shipping IzuOcha (Deku X Ochaco from MHA) and some other people started going off on them because "Deku/Ochaco is gay/lesbian". It's never been confirmed, Ochaco literally has a crush on Deku. I'm all for hcs so long as you don't go out harassing people and calling them "homophobic" for not having the same exact hcs as you. I hc Ruby Hoshino from Oshi no Ko as bi, yet you don't see me going around forcing it down people's throat.
yeah, it's some kind of "death of the author". if I spend so much time writing a character, or use my life for inspiration and some 16 year old comes along and put their "interpretation" on it, somehow their view trumps mine
I just think if a person’s headcanon is something like a person’s sexuality and race it should only be done if the person DOESNT have a canon or heavily hinted one
My thoughts exactly. Personally I think just slapping these traits onto characters that already have their race or sexuality officially established shouldn’t count as representation at all.
Canon sexualities are an interesting topic because often, sexualities aren't confirmed within the canon because heterosexuality is supposed to be assumed. Nowadays though, creators are realizing that people are GayTM and are actually giving their characters canon sexualities. That's definitely a step up from just forcing people to assume, and then getting mad when different people assume different things.
This literally happens to Leon Kennedy So much, he's legitimately hinted to be heterosexual, he's SAID it himself in resident evil 4 remake, yet people headcanon him as trans and gay. Delusional
@@T0xiCthEw0lf Headcanons won't make him canonically gay and trans. Just enjoy the canon and follow the people who have similar headcanons to you. I do think canon sexualities should be respected, but I also think that fan spaces are the way a lot of queer people express themselves.
@@T0xiCthEw0lf You realize you can be trans and straight right? Being trans has nothing to do with being gay. I've noticed with Leon, the people headcanoning him as such are trans men themselves, so they're only trying to relate with him.
idk i just think racewashing characters in general is super weird and in my opinion it won't hurt u to leave a black character black like just leave their race alone 😭 but in the end i really don't care what u do in ur free time and at the end of the day as long as ur being respectful ab it i dont mind but i probably won't fuck with u if u racewash tho 💀
YES. like a headcanon could be like, it would be cool if this characters was tan because they spend a lot of time in the sun, thats fine. But completely changing a characters race is really bad, especially whitewashing.
One type of headcanons that i noticed is when someone headcanons family dynamics. Like headcanoning two characters as siblings or parent/child dynamic. I like some of those. But it gets annoying when that headcanon gets so popular that if you ship these caharacters in a romantic way youll get tons of hate.
I headcanon Balloony and Cloudy as the parents of Rocky (in BFDI) and Rocky doesn’t even talk in the show (he’s not mute because he can make some sounds) and acts like a baby so I can still get mad at people for shipping him with anyone (or drawing nsfw of him like that one user wth)
just now I watched a video of someone rant on a tiktoker who made a video about Alastor from Hazbin Hotel being black coded or whatever and then I was like ok and then I saw a comment that says she reminds me of those sonic fans that attack artists for making knuckles white and saying that she's woke
when i draw humanized nonhuman characters, i usually do as much research as i can and if a race isnt implied or explicitly stated i take the characters canon “skin” tone and try to find out which skin color’s value matches up to it ^_^ 21:40
Self indulgence is confort food for many artists, sometimes they wanna see themselves as a character too so they change certain aspects of a character to fulfill their fantasies.
I personnally find headcanons cool but those who posts those headcanons on Pinterest saying that the character is zoophile or a p€do and add a lots of "pride" flag that don't even exist (I saw headcanons on a MINOR saying that they're plushies sexual like whattt) 😭
Guys what about the headcannons where they hc the chara to have emoji pronouns 😭😭 ( if you don’t know what emoji pronouns are they are: 💚/💚self basically)
8:17 Chihiro Fujisaki from Danganronpa is a male and I’ve seen a lot of ppl hc him as a mtf or gender fluid or non binary and I find that rude to the character development bc the main thing was that he was a man who was bullied by the public for being a feminine looking boy so he put up and act and in the game he wore a skirt and acted like a female Edit: I wasn’t expecting this to be popular
@@SirLuckySlime I know right I’ve seen so many fan fics where he is a girl and it annoys me like I understand if it’s during the time where everyone thought he was but most of the time it’s not
I 100% agree, I never understood the "transphobic" thing with chihiro that the danganronpa haters use when these no transgender stories at all in Chihiro story-, like if it was written to be like "Chihiro wanted to be a x (girl, non binary or anything) but forced to stay as a boy for the others but eventually had to courage to become the person he want to be" that would made senses but no, it isn't that at all...
I remember seeing a HC for Nico di Angelo from the Percy Jackson books (note that there are no movie/TV show actors for Nico) and it had him with a disability and he was using arm crutches. I personally think this is a great idea because I have mobility issues (I have dislocated my knee multiple times and have had issues with mobility in my knees, I also have several problems with my joints anyway) and I love to see HCs of characters that the author wrote somewhat to our interpretation in regard to disability, sexuality, gender identity/expression, etc. Rick Riordan for example has many LGBTQ+ characters, disabled characters, characters with different ethnicities, etc. he also co-wrote a book with a queer author (Mark Oshiro) to "get a better representation of the characters." I honestly love that Rick knows how much of an impact he has on his fans, especially his younger "audience," and that he genuinely tries his best to get the most representation he can, if he needs help with showing representation, he asks for help.
I find headcanons really fascinating and it's nice to see people relate to characters but I feel as tho sometimes people throw around the word "headcanon" a bit too much. Like I've seen headcanon designs for characters on pinterest but they usually end up changing the character, and sometimes even affecting the character's story and making their background completely different and it ends up feeling like an oc I generally don't have a problem with headcanons but if it's stereotypes that are racist or offensive to neurodivergent people l stay away from the headcanons as it seems a bit harmful. but, headcanons can be a way to express yourself and feel scene in a community!
Headcanons are only 'bad' if they are fueled by a stereotype. If (for example) a male character were to wear feminine clothes, have long hair and/or painted their nails or wore makeup, that doesn't make them trans or gay. If you headcanon a certain character solely based on their appearance, background, etc. with no further justification, that's a stereotype. There are real guys who like to wear that kind of stuff and aren't part of the LGBTQ+ community, and you can imagine how much they get made fun of already because of the very same stereotypes you follow when headcanoning characters. Another example would be headcanoning a 'cold' character as aroace just because they're closed off. How...why is this a stereotype in the first place? Some people who are closed off and prefer being alone might want to be in a romantic relationship, but were treated harshly and now keep to themselves because they don't want to get hurt again. Aroace people can be expressively full of love - just not romantic. This is what some people mean when they say headcanons are 'offensive'. If you told me you headcanoned a character to be trans not because of the clothes they wear, but because of the struggle they went through with their identity in the past (i.e. I headcanon _____ as trans because they canonically have gender dysphoria, and dress in clothes of the opposite gender because they feel more comfortable with it) then it would be fine. Its realistic, its heartfelt and it isn't stereotypical. To put it in simpler terms, don't headcanon one character to like eating dogs because they are Asian. Headcanon another character to like eating dogs because they have expressed at some point in their dialogue that they like eating dubious animal meat.
I completely agree! Another point was in the mha fandom people got really mad when the anime changed uravity to the standard anime body type. Many people have now been giving her a chubbier(for lack of a better word)appearance. I personally love this! And i like to see more body type representations in anime and tv shows( being a chubbier girl myself) loved the video btw❤❤❤
Something I try to live by: "As long as it isn't morally questionable or purposely harmful, do whatever you want." It can apply to basically anything; art, movies, real life, etc.
That's actually really good, that's what I do for my Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia rewrite I either do things that I would've done if I made the show, or something that I just think would be an interesting spin on the character
unless it's like a ship between a minor and an adult or something similar like that, because that is 1. illegal and 2. could genuinely harm/trigger people
I think a good example of this is Gwen Stacy from Atsv, I’m a trans man and when I watched the movie I realized how EXTREMELY Trans coded she was to the point that people argued ( and still argue) if she’s trans or not… I personally thought and still think of her as trans and I felt like it would fit her character if she was. The pain she felt hit so close to home and seeing the “ Protect Trans kids” flag made me tear up. I’m not gonna be mad if she is confirmed as cis I just feel like it’s a very good opportunity for the writers to show really good Trans representation but if she isn’t she’s still a Trans Ally and I’m glad it makes Transphobes mad 😊
Oh yeah I remember when I think the trailer came out and the flag was there for like a second, so many people were mad and every third video on my fyp was about that. Like damn💀
Dude I'm going to be real with you if it wasn't for the Protect Trans Kids flag, and the color coding in her big allegory speech, the fandom would totally be saying that she's a lesbian, given they used the generic "queer allegory speech". But honestly she's just queer coded in general, so my personal headcanon is that she's bi and the Peter from her universe is a trans guy, the flag she has up in her room she made to attend a trans rights rally with him.
I absolutely love headcanons. I curate my experience very heavily, and hang out in fandoms like DC or GOmens, so it surprises me to see the hate for them sometimes. Headcanons are harmless (usually), and even the non-harmless ones are a product of the person who made them, not headcanons as a concept or thing. There's definitely a lot to be said about people pushing their headcanons on others, but again it's an issue with those people, not headcanons. I make headcanons because I just think they're fun, and the fact I and others can relate to them is even better.
I think that race and sexuality headcanons should be done for fun or personal comfort of the person and not just to go against other headcanons or to “fix it” it implies one race is better then the other. Also it often takes away representation of other people. I’m indigenous and Mexican (mom indigenous and dad Mexican) and I headcanon pinkie pie as those things. Of course you can be black and those things but I am light skinned so I make pinkie pie light skinned and been attacked for it. I have hair much like pinkie pie. I love black pinkie pie but I think it shouldn’t be used against other peoples head canons thank you for reading
I guess HC’s ARENT that bad but some people just over-do it and they like try and insist that their HC’s are canon or smth and they’re just really annoying about it😭😭
i love making silly headcannons to make people upset (mainly with the cod girlies community) and then have serious headcannons with close friends/mutuals
I'm fine with headcanons but I do have some types that I don't tolerate such as 1. Anything that's borderline racist or just really biased (like that miles is a shoplifter one or sexuaility hc based solely on stereotypes) 2. When it gets treated as Canon or what the writers "totally" intended 3. When it's a redesign/ rewrite that gets labeled as a headcanon 4. When it becomes ridiculously popular (widely accepted fanon) 5. Mischaracterization or just wrong (I can tolerate this kinda but man it grinds my gears)
I do small redesigns for characters so they look like my hcs, but I don't deviate at all from the og contents, is that bad? I usually only change parts of the cloth or add accesories. the only ones where I could say I completely change characters is when I make aus.
That's an interesting question you've got there. I'd say it depends. It's always fun to have your own perspectives and interpretations of a character, and I think there's no harm in making headcanons to give a fresh twist to a story or character. However, I also believe that sometimes people can take headcanons too far, to the point it becomes more like a fantasy or an obsession. Maybe that's where the real issue lies. also i LOVE your voice and video keep up the phenomenal work!!!!
8:15 when thinking of misguided gender headcanons, mizu definitely comes to mind. i remember having a conversation with someone online who headcanoned mizu as a trans man, and they’d be blocking anyone who tried to speak on how the headcanon was problematic. when asked to explain, they pointed out how mizu used he/him pronouns and never corrected anyone, completely disregarding that she was forced to live as a man purely for her own safety, that she’d more than likely be murdered purely based on her gender. at a first glance these headcanons could also be read through the lens of it being based on masculine woman = trans stereotyping, but that also ignores the fact that mizu was literally at her happiest when she was married and living as a woman. although i think it says something that although their stories share similar themes, mizu is frequently headcanoned as trans whereas you never see the same in her more traditionally feminine counterpart akemi. and again, even if i can see how some elements of her story could be relatable to the transgender experience (e.g binding, using different pronouns, etc) she did it because SHE’D LITERALLY BE KILLED IF SHE DIDN’T. overall, i feel like the whole headcanon just really misses a big point of the show, that being the injustices and lack of rights for women in the time the story is set. simply writing all that off by just saying ‘mizu is trans’ is both ignorant and outright disrespectful to the very real stories blue eye samurai was meant to portray.
i make so many hcs abt my interests, most of them being self projection. but i love hcs so much and i already made my point but everyone else made amazing points too!! i agree with all of them one way or another. i still stand with my “as long as its not harmful or weird, idm” lol
This reminded me of something i see alot in the Omori community- alot of people make headcannons about sunny being autistic (i headcannon this myself, since i'm autistic and can see myself in him) but alot of people make it weirdly steryotypical. alot of peopl;e who HC this also HC sunny to be completley helpless and childlike for his age (This is a sterotype of autistic people, espeically autistic adults, that people with autism are ''basically just infant's/very young children emotionally'') Another thing i see alot is with Basil (who is implied to have stuff like BPD, anxiety and possibly schizophrenia?) and this is sort of in the cannon but never specifed, but alot of fanfics sorta remove all his problems and make him into a perfect neurotypical guy ig, which i sort of find a bit iffy since it IS heavily implied in cannon (
Yes, I absolutely hate it when characters are hc’d as autistic just for being ‘silly’ or childlike, bc those are harmful stereotypes, and even if we seem ‘childlike’ it’s the way we express ourselves yk
Notice how most of the ppl who have “cringe” headcanons are either queer or neurodivergent. I think ppl who hate on headcanons are usually inherently queerphobic or ableist bc it’s literally just a silly headcanon 😭 Anyways I’ll continue to headcanon my silly South Park kiddos as queer bc it’s fun 🥰
Exactly, like if I see a character I relate to heavily (I’m autistic) and I can notice some very clear, non stereotypical autistic traits in them, I find it perfectly fair to hc em as autistic. Unfortunately, ppl (usually allistic) absolutely hate when I and others do this, and it saddens me, bc you have no right to speak on this when somebody is projecting personal experiences onto a character in a completely non-harmful wat
Agree so much with this! I love hc’s, and I have little ones that don’t really affect much. Ex-[insert character] would cry when nobody is there, and shows anger rather than sadness in public. (One of my actual hc’s). I use this one because it relates to the character and feels canon, since the character is seen in sad situations and still hasn’t let out tears. Sorry, I’m ranting. I don’t like when people take it too far and completely change the character. I also don’t really like when they insert their self as a character (like in South Park). My point is that head canons can be used, but I don’t think they should change a character too much.
So! I have a fun story about this. I used to be one of these ppl who cared waaaay too much abt art headcanons and it basically stemmed from 1)radicalization 2) cringe culture. I grew up during the time it was complety ok to just take people's o.cs redesign them and claim them as your own if you didn't like the artist for whatever reason (see AkaiDahlia and PrincessElizabeth13) and the fear of that happening to me became severely deep rooted so much so like with many perpetuating thea most toxic sides of cringe culture. Anything that wasn't conforming to canon or (which at the time I didn't know exsisted but tried abiding by bc of these ppl) conservative values was bad. It was AWFUL I was miserable because of this because I wouldn't let myself or others have fun. After growing up a bit and learning to not care I realized how much more fun being self indulgent with fanart is. Sure it might not be canon, but it's fun! If people aren't drawing something illegal why should it matter what they headcanon? Let the SP boys be a little gay, Link from Zelda a little trans or something wacky asf like idk the Pelican from Nemo fucking loves caffeine. Art in all forms should be first and foremost about self expression! And denying that is to deny art in of itself Let loose and have fun yall!
I once saw a post of a drawing of Luffy from one piece, and the artist gave him more tanned skin than he has in the show and people were commenting stuff like “bro got a spray tan 💀” and some other kinda racist things, even though the creator said that if he was real, he would be Brazilian and as a Brazilian myself, I really like it. Just don’t know why people can’t just let others be sometimes :(
I’ve seen people say some HORRENDOUSLY racist stuff when it comes to stuff like that and I just sit there and think do y’all not realize how racist you sound are you not ashamed of the jokes your making like it makes no sense
man head canons- onistly i love and hate them. for me its just really how the person acts over it. some headcanons are always safe and chill (example being mugman being shy) yes its not true but its quite harmless. some are well ehh for me, more or less the ones covering heaveier topics. it also depends on how people act about it. of corse someones not going to like your head canon if your shoving it in their face or getting mad at people if they dont use it. plus some people go around trying to claim that their headcanon is "fact" which sometimes leads to creators of that media telling people its not. onistly feel bad for the creators of the media the fandom senters around as man that must be annoying. but all and all to me headcanons are fine as long as the creators are not uncomfterble with it. for something i do with headcanons tho is that i make seprit aus to put them in. this really helps to me as it can let ya have a open mind when looking at other peoples things or the main midea. which also reminds me that sometimes i see people fight with others about things that achally have bine confermed by the main creators ;-; .... at the end of the day its not worth fighting over fictional charaters over the internet their pixils at the end of the day ;-;... tip: one tip tho is if you wanna get into making head canons i do recomend making a au as it can help keep a open mind of others headcanons. yes i know their not aus but to me thinking of them as such can really help people keep a open mind ;w;-
I don’t really care about headcanons I do it myself from time to time but if it’s my own personal Oc’s it bothers me on a personal level I don’t know how to explain it
i have a perfect example for a character whose gender is important to their character: hifumi izanami from hypnosis mic! he has a crippling phobia of women due to unspecified trauma (its heavily implied that he was s/ad, but nothing has been confirmed). he started working at a host club to try to get over this phobia, but ended up developing a second personality of sorts where hes super flirty and perfectly fine with women whenever he puts this specific jacket on. his gender clearly is very important to his story but ive seen people headcanon him as a trans woman for some reason?? which makes ZERO sense with his character. ive also seen people headcanon him as transmasc which isnt as bad, but it has some icky implications that im not a fan of... idk. people r really weird about him in general and it annoys the hell out of me
1:27 bro I can confirm this. When I first started getting into a podcast called the Magnus Archives I kept seeing posts about this one ship. I saw so much that I genuinely thought it was a canon relationship when it isn’t. And I’ve seen so many other fans saying that they had the same experience. It’s not a bad thing imo, just a bit disappointing
I’ve actually had a similar experience in other fandoms, think ppl have a problem where they just say everything is canon, which can mislead fellow ppl such as myself
I also see people headcanoning characters being gay or les and harass artist drawing those characters being straight ect. Like cant a character be bi or pan for everyone be happy and not harassed.
Right? Idk and the hatered people get breaks my heart. I was in VC and someone made a rp sheet of Sombra and he was straight on the form and someone in VC started to rant about how much they hated that they made Sombra straight and wished the person who made the Sombra sheet would off himself. The fact someone hates another sexuality so much to the point of thinking of harming others breaks my heart. I just wish everyone knew were all not perfect and we're all different. I wish people would beokie with things even if they don't agree :(
Yeah dude, it’s upsetting to see. It genuinely annoys me when I, as a gay man, ship sum straight and another person gets all mad over it, bc they ship that character with a person of the same gender (they usually deny my sexuality bc of it as well). I see it happen the other way as well, and it upsets me (esp since I’m a multi shipper 🤑). Honestly, I don’t necessarily like bi/pan hcs on characters I project onto, but it’s fine bc their sexuality is usually ambiguous and I can see the hcs. I don’t think characters should be bi/pan to make everyone happy though, not just for the reason I stated, but I know that sadly nothing makes everyone happy.
Imo, it just depends. I dont mindpeople doing headcannons but the issue i have is when its starting to be forced. For example, if someone made a headcannon as pinkie pie as black thats fine. But say someone else headxannons her as white but the person who headcannons her as black cones and attacks that oerson because of their headcannon even though theres no real cannon to what pinkie piecould be and the closest thing she would be is amish. I also kind of dont like headcannons when they go against the cannon. Like say a character is only straight or only gay confirmed but someone comes in and start to change things about them like their sexuality. I also hate when people get violent about it too like "no they would date >:(" even though theres no chemistry. I got attacked befuase my headcannon is pinkiepie would be skinny and honestly healthy due to how much she constantly moves and biunces. But then a hoard of people who head cannoned her as chubby would start attacking me and calling me names and even telling me to kill myself, thatswhen i draw the line. Like its not okie to attack someone like jesus. I do believe even if it is your headcannon, people SHOULD be allowedto say what they feel and if they dont like it. Mainly express how they feel about it, and i think that should be okie even if someone doesnt agree. I also wanted to note rq, i really dont like the "race coded" thing personally, mainly because it heavily raises and makes stereotypes more of a problem. Like say someine grew up poor and had to work non stop to hekp their druggy mother, sone would stereotype thst as one rajse when in reality. Most races go through it. Because were all human. We all live a life. Your skin tone does not determine your life and actions. Same with the word poc. Poc is such a dumb word and so.. separating
im east asian and have no idea why ppl hate it when ppl make black edits of anime characters like. who even cares... its not erasure when the vast majority of anime characters are japanese anyway
that is good you are ok with people race bending fictional people. I wonder if anyone would loose their mind if someone took an anime dog and turned the characer white. or whatever. I bet people would.
Most of the time when I make headcannons I project parts of myself onto characters, (I don’t force these headcannons onto other people) as an autistic person who struggles to identify my own thoughts and feelings sometimes, it has helped tremendously in helping me discover and understand myself better
This reminds me of how some people headcanon Shiver in the splatoon community as trans, I don't have a problem with it at all infact i love it but some of the reasons i see artist for doing so is cause she's wearing a chest wrap when Shiver is based off the Japanese culture and the women would wear chest wraps to flatten the breast when wearing a kimono and im not sure but in that way of artists just saying she's trans because she wears a chest wrap rubs me the wrong way since its more of a traditional thing, but then again im not so sure so maybe its just me.
an example of a character where gender/sex plays a part in their story is margot verger from nbc hannibal! a plot during the show was her literally trying to get pregnant in order to get her families fortune💀 shes also a canonical lesbian, and ive seen SO many people say shes bisexual because she sleeps with a man (for the previously mentioned pregnancy)
Personally ive always seen pinkie as white (probably bc I was a white kid with blue eyes and curly hair) so i think i kind of saw my own appearence in her but i do think pinkie being black is a really cool headcanon Edit: to add i mean i also had blond hair (Its darker now)
I had to take a moment to focus in on the colors and cutie mark of the pony at 15:09 and watched the whole drawing of that pony up to that point like: “twilight doesn’t have brown hair..?” and then it clicked and I was like “OHHH THEYRE DRAWING THEMSELF AS A PONY!”
for me personally i love projecting on to any character i like. many times i just really see myself in them and relate with their experience. which has lead to me headcanoning soooo many charcaters as bi (not any characters that are canonically les or gay ect though) and this is probably a hot take here but i really don't think there's a problem with lgbtq headcanoning canon straight characters. the difference between canon straight characters and canon gay characters is there's so little lgbtq characters while there's tons of canon straight characters. i don't think it's a problem if some people headcanon them as something else since there are already so many straight characters out there for straight people to feel seen by. my only exception is if their sexuality plays a large role of the story and is integral to the plot. (not just like a running gag of them being a simp or smth like that ex. sanji) ++ also this is just a rule of thumb for anyone but NEVER force your headcanons on people, so much in fandom i see people saying "YoU CaN'T sHiP THAt thIs chArACTeR IS ________". also pleaseplease respect authors, showrunners, mangka ect, and never harass a creator over a god damn headcanon you heathens
27:07 Yaay, That's me! I honestly enjoy and love hearing about what other's think about this topic! I feel like my comment was a tad bit, weird now, cause I say that at the end. But, I've enjoyed the horror side of the MLP fandom and how people made the crew very psychotic. So, That could be a flaw, but then again, that's more of an AU the a HC
Yea, hcs are fine as long as it wasnt created with a negative intention. One of my hcs is that Romilda Vane from Harry Potter is actually black-white idk how to explain it. I always pictured her like that when reading the books and the overall darkness of the movies made me think she was black. When I found out she was white, i was actually kinda shocked lol..
The way I see it, the skin colours the ponies have in Equestria Girls is their canon skin colour, and their races are either unicorn, pegasus or earth pony. That's what I think at least. A headcanon basically.
(3:30) totally. like- if ur gonna make so many changes to a character to the point that it's basically an original character, just make it an original character
This video was quite good! I honestly tend to instead of raceswap make the characters half something, one of my fave cs are Dazai (Bungo stray dogs) being half latino, since i am latino myself i like to hc him as half chilean, but i agree a lot with you! most of my hcs of him are just me seeing myself in him
Headcanon is a fan activity to expand the character or show their own view. BUT making headcanon that have nothing to do with the story or the theme of the work is frustrating. It's common to assign any sexual orientation on the characters 7:15 but there are more to explore than this. 1:25 This too. Fan would ship everything even if the canon say otherwise. 5:13 The Mayor claim they are heroes but do nothing to save the Mane 6. Would be best if Twilight present us Ponyville. 6:27 Fixing imply that the artist doesn't agree with the author vision. This imply that he/she don't like the author. 7:46 Ha, you are redesigning C. A. Cupid! 21:38 Pretty much in a nutshell 27:42 A character or a series has an intention, CONSIDER IT!
Usually for me, when it comes to headcanons, I find a character quirk I like and build upon it, that's mostly it, and if I want to change the story of a franchise I like, I just make an AU instead of trying to squeeze my version of the story into canon
sigma from BSD gets head cannoned as mtf ( or other way around ) a lot! some people who disagree with the hc say its just because he has long hair, but most who hc him as trans say its just to project/relate with one of their favourite characters !! ^^
i really dont get why people hate headcanons sm. like just let me make Kyle chubby and short, everyone keeps getting mad about it cz people say "kyle is the the tallest" THERES NO FUCKING CANON HEIGHTS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
my only issue is when u dont say hc on ur headcanons. like i fr saw someone saying "rodrick facts!!" and said "he is a homosexual and he is transgender and actually uses she/they/xe pronouns!!" and nowhere, not even the caption, did they put "hc" or "headcanon" and they got mad that they got hate for it. like pal, you said that as if jeff kinney decided that, not a 13 y.o. on tiktok. so yea, if u have headcanons that go against what the character was written as, (rodrick is OBSESSED with women) please put the fact that its a headcanon bro its quite confusing for new people in the fandom 🙏 btw i have nothing wrong w that headcanon, but i dont personally agree with it 😭😭 edit: the creator meant homosexual as liking men only, along w being a transfem im pretty sure. cuz they drew him a bf so idk 🤷♂️
That's also why I usually clarify it on my posts, and on top of that I noticed a lot of people on tiktok tend to misunderstand things and start arguments because of it💀 I think on one of my MLP tiktoks I forgot to do that and someone said "you literally just made up your own versions of them and drew them in your style :|" Like yeah??? Context clues???? T___T
I write fanfics just for the fun of it and i do use very popular headcanons just for the story, But I do think people do it way to much and it can get very weird very quickly
Everytime someone mentions Mha I feel like crap bc i have a lot of hearcanons for probably straight cisgender characters. For example, I headcanon Kirishima as a trans man bc I relate to him and his struggles of wanting to be "manly" (as a trans man myself) and being super insecure. I'm not gonna say he's canonically a trans man but it's disheartening seeing people hate on it so much. Also w/ the whitewashing/ blackwashing thing, ppl in the Mha fandom sometimes draws the canonically Asian characters black. Im not Asian or anything so idk if i can say anything, but it feels so icky redrawing an Asian character as black :(
Btw I know Black Asian ppl exist, I'm mostly talking about ppl taking already East Asian (Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc) and make them black. I do wish Anime represented other races more however and can see why people do it.
I wouldn’t use the word “icky” in tangem with describing redrawing a character black… not an attack!!! Just might read as a bit odd or questionable to say.
@@thelingeringartist Well. I just don't understand why someone would wanna take away Asian representation and redraw them as black. I'd rather see more black characters in Anime, yes. I know many East Asians don't like it when ppl "fix" anime characters by making them black. It seems like redrawing a person of color as another person of color, which doesn't feel right.
@@NerdialYT Yeah. Tho she was a troll probably, so I wouldn't say she did it bc she genuinely wanted more representation in anime. She did it to get a rise out of people. If ppl are drawing themselves as an anime character I don't rlly see an issue no matter which race, but redesigning an Asian character to be another POC bc "it's better" is weird.
My favorite headcannon is that Edward Scissorhands is non-binary:) I’ve met a lot of fans who agree but some random i meet get mad, like, it’s a headcannon, I’m allowed to have it. Also, I have actual reasons too! Like let people have fun
I like headcannons a lot! The show how people view a character but sadly people can go overboard. And people that agree that a headcannon is wrong or bad start to hate on them. But if there's no bad intentions to it then i love them. I think good headcannons can bring a fandom together! Like with mummy joe and people agreeing bubby os a red head!
I feel like if a character has a canon and important sexuality/gender identity/ race, I personally wouldn't make hcs like that. Stereotypical hcs are so so annoying too fr, 'feminine' guy doesn't mean trans fem. 'masculine' gal doesn't mean trans male. Or the 'She doesn't like him back she must be lesbian.' (Ofc there's exceptions to this one but still :( :( )
Headcanons are pretty cool! Sure I don't agree with every single headcanon of a given character, but at the end of the day they're just interpretations from an individual and how they view said character. That said
I agree with some head canons I find on the internet. But I do remember being called a white washer only two times because of a character from a show called Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles So when I was 13 I had a TMNT phase and rise of the TMNT was my absolute favorite especially the villains, I drew them so much giving them backstories, sexualities, ect. My favorite one to draw was Hypno the magician mutant hippo, I loved drawing him in my human style and I loved it. Until one person said to me "literally Hypno is black why did you make him white" I see him mostly as Mexican, and I told the person about it and they said "well in the show he literally has black skin" not really but that's my opinion. I did another drawing of him and my Sona and yet again saying that I white washed him. I didn't know at the time so I was confused but now I know
I love headcannons for most of the reasons you said. Get the creativity juices going. It adds more to a story and gives more to enjoy. I'm personally indifferent to a lot of headcannons unless they're based on stereotypes, heavy on sexuality and neurodivergent headcannons. I'm a lesbian and autistic, I can speak on both. I personally headcannon Nancy wheeler from stranger things as autistic since she has similar symptoms to me, and I connect a lot with her character. So I don't mind when people headcannon characters for similar reasons like that :]
I love making headcanons however I hate when people inisit on a population fanon being canonical. Especially if they bully others for having different opinions. Like how people get upset when someone doesn't like the popular ship. Its just so stupid like why can't others have different opinions ?
One time on Tik Tok I showed my Redesigns of Marinette and Adrien from the multiverse special and I made a headcanon about Adrien being a Transfem Lesbian, it was kinda a joke in the beginning because a lot of people say the original desing looked like a lesbian, and my redesign kinda looked like one, but I keep the headcanon because I tought it was kinda cute But then I got attacked for that 💀 People told me I made them worst and asked why I changed them so much (bro, it’s a redesign, what do you expected?, I just give them another artstyle and clothes) Heck, someone say I just made that headcanon because I didn’t love myself I asked why they were so mad about that and I say it was just a headcanon, like, plz chill, and they say they “didn’t have anything against headcanons” (proceed to attack me again)
Agghhh I’m sorry I wrote you a whole essay but I’m shocked it showed up in here The art you made for this one is so cuuuttee, I especially loved the last pic 🖤
i have a story regarding headcanons/non-canon ship that makes me giggle every time i think about it: i’m an editor and i edit a *lot* of dincobb (din djarin + cobb vanth from the mandalorian) and i had one edit that did really well (that tiktok has MUTED because of the copyright thing) but in the popularity of the edit came a *lot* of star wars dudebros and there was this one comment that was something along the lines of “mando (din) isn’t gay he has a wife you weirdos” so i respond with “literally when what??” and this guy came back with “when he took his helmet off to kiss that woman” LIKE ??? that never happened LMAO so in being pissed about my headcanons dude is making up his own tbh this is probably only funny to me but whatever
My BFDI headcanons Ship segment :3 Astrobiology/treehole because I’ve seen some beautiful animations of it and I’m joining in 4x because it’s silly and canon Fireafy. Do I need to explain? Balloony X Cloudy because I headcanon them as Rocky’s dads which is adorable Pencil X Match because they act like girlfriends and I headcanon that everyone knows they’re girlfriends except them Alright enough ships now random stuff Leafy would be a buff girl as a humanwith very wavy hair (I have really wavy hair like 2 seconds after brushing it starts tangling again) not sure about race prob a darker skin tone X is a Therian not sure what Theriotypes but probably a small rodent or songbird (I could see him also doing quads and making masks) 4 is a Furry but the type to have too much power and know it (it’s hard to explain) Rocky has a very small amount of braincells (the most likely to be canon one)
Honestly, I don’t care much about mischaracterization Everyone is going to view something different from a character based on who they are and what their life story is. Sometimes people like a characters design but not the character themselves and make up their own version of said character, which I think is fine especially if it also helps them like that character more than they would Characters and stories are meant to be interpreted in ways that resonate best with who it reaches, and if that characterization is radically different than what the author was going for I don’t see the problem, I do that sometimes for characters I love the design of but hate the character of or have things I want to change and all it does is help me get more into the fandom then I would Now of the character has a certain message it’s meant to portray, then that’s where it gets tricky. If the character portrays that message badly or in a way that is hurtful, it makes sense why someone would try to change it in some way in their mind. However, if it’s more of a neutral and or actually good take on a topic, especially if the topic is serious, then that’s where things get bad since it could erase the representation that character gives through themselves or how they treat others (like for example, Valentino from Hazbin Hotel. He’s an actual sexual abuser, obviously I’m not gonna take that away from the character because it’d be erasing that these types of frankly awful people exist in real life)
I am a panty and stocking enjoyer and my pfp rn is stocking but my skin color I never claimed she was my skin tone or it was bad that she wasn’t she’s white(or Asian since this is a Japanese show) but I was on TikTok and someone said “Fixing stocking’s design” and made her my skin tone(like a light brownish) I don’t believe it needs to be “fixed” over anything they should be fixing garterbelt since they did make him kinda.. as a black stereotypical character which I don’t agree with how the creators of pantry&stocking with garterbelt made him look especially with his lips idk what it is abt ppl making their lips brighter than their skin I see it as a stylized choice but when they do it to be kinda racist it’s not…🤷🏽♀️ [some of my head Cannons] ★Rainbow dash★ She’s Bisexual and mixed(skin color mixed with black & white) ★PinkiePie★ She’s Also Bisexual And she’s black ★Twilight★ She’s greysexual(apart of the asexual community) And she’s also mixed(with black & white) ★Rarity★ She’s straight and she’s white ★AppleJack★ She’s Bisexual And she’s black Yes I used MLP I am way past the age range for it (early teens) but I still enjoy the show and the head cannons and redesigns people do for them!!
imo how i decide skin color for mlp characters i just eyedrop the color then use the color wheel set it to an im-between orange and yellow(or red) to get the skin tone lol
I totally agree! I love headcanons, but there are definitely lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Great video :)) Unrelated, but what markers were you using for your art at around 16:00 ? It looks really good :3 your art is really pretty.
In my opinion, headcanons can go either way as long as it's not toxic. In my case in real life I am a Pansexual Demigirl who is autistic, yet in real life I get people saying that I'm either a Trans woman because of my voice, a person who is Aroace because they're autistic and they want to be left alone or someone who is a Lesbian 😬, I really hate the fact that they see me that way and how they see me in general, that's why I'm scared of how I want to do my own characters in my drawings.
I actually stopped headcanoning things for shows and other things that are ongoing, because it ruined my love for one of them I love spooky month, but when I got into the fandom and started joining in the headcanoning, I started just hating it, nothing was fun, and every time I had something in my head “I think this character is aroace” Immediately I got got with “actually he’s pan” And there are other things… like forgetting two characters are siblings after not watching the show for a while… yep.. that was an embarrassing moment. So. Just, rarely do it anymore. (Mostly it’s shipping I don’t do much anymore) Sorry for my ramblings, I just have a scrambled eggs brain
My mlp headcanon is Flora Dew and she’s trans and she lives in the everfree forest and she’s an alicorn you can comment if you want the lore for that. I hate when people say “headcanons are weird and cringe” it’s weird. Edit: I have realized my mistake and mixed up oc and headcanon my headcanon is that Sombra isn’t evil just because he feeds off the entertainment of the crystal ponies because that’s the only way he can survive without losing control of his powers and stuff.
I don't think negatively about headcanons because they seem nice to me. What I do think negatively telling people what to do and spreading misinformation because of a headcannon.
I usually try and find a little bit of a reason to headcanon something, although sometimes my headcanons are spiteful (I’ll admit it, honestly). I usually have a ton of headcanons where the character is trans masc because I am myself, usually if I think it gives some kind of sense with their story (trans masc Miguel Ohara my beloved….)
And by spiteful I mean directly going against fanon. Like no actually I think the opposite because usually fanon either defaults to stereotypes (using Miguel as an example again but people headcanon him to have anger issues when he’s actually incredibly patient. But womp womp I guess I just have to expect people to be weird about Latinos.) or directly don’t know what the hell is going on with the character (eg: piss poor media comprehension).
Ok headcanons are dope but Why do they come up with such absurd terms for everything tho 😂🙄 I would be thrilled if someone did this with my own characters
I'm not a fan of that either to be honest :/ Maybe if it's kids making those hcs then sure I guess, but when it's adults doing that it gives me an icky feeling. Like, sure sexualities aren't inherently sexual, but do you really NEED to do that with a kid character as an adult :/
i absolutely LOVE headcanons. especially when someone headcanons a character i really relate to as non binary because, GOD I LOVE PROJECTING ONTO AUTISTIC PURPLE CHARACTERS (cough, rise of the tmnt Donatello, cough)
One day I was talking to someone and I told them that how I'm mixed (Nicaraguan and British) I love making mixed hc of my comfort characters because it makes me happy... And this person said "then you are racist? Because all anime character are Japanese, it you change their race you are racist" I'M NOT, I don't change their skin color or anything, if I'm hc Edward Elric as half Japanese and half Guatemalan is because it makes me happy OMG 😭 (Also I make neurodivergent hc but I only hc then with the things I have so I won't fall into stereotypes)
I feel like people get far too upset about this topic. Like, me thinking that everyone in Star Trek is bisexual except for 2 characters isn't going to hurt anyone, or me thinking that the main character from Mirror's Edge is trans isn't going to make anything happen...at all. Mostly, I think at least, the reason people headcanon is to see themselves more in a character, especially characters they don't like. Like, for example, if someone doesn't like Rainbow Dash, they might headcanon her as pansexual and that someone is like: wow, I'm also pansexual! I like this character a little more because I see something in them!
Headcannons are a real mixed bag for me. I like some but I dislike a LOT of them. For me, the intention really matters whether its design, race, or sexuality changes, etc. I usually don't like a lot of the headcannons I see due to people either being annoying about it, or claiming it as canon and the ONLY way to see it and if you interpret it as anything else, you're wrong and racist or something something phobic. But I immediately block or ignore those people because there's no point in having a discussion at that point. It's especially bad when some aspects of a character are purposely up for interpretation. Sometimes its fun to watch both sides go at it on any headcannons but it gets really messy real quick (looking at you Hoyoverse fandom). I have my own "headcannons" on certain media but I don't go too far at all. I also either keep them to myself or talk amongst my siblings and best friend. Going online about it is a death sentence in certain spaces. I do have my own personal opinions about headcannon but my general thought process is that there's a line between an interpretation and just rewriting the character. There are tons of people (mostly teenagers) online that just slap on whatever random traits to a character and then claim its "just headcannon" but usually by that point...that's just an OC with the skin of the character you like. Like do what you want, it doesn't matter at the end of the day, but you might as well just make a fanfic or an OC instead of using headcannon as a shield to avoid/dismiss differing opinions. But that's just what I think. But anyway, for the most part, if its just for fun and you're not being toxic, I don't care. I think obsessing over headcannons as well are just...yikes. I tend to avoid and block stupid people so I run into them less often luckily.

What annoys me is when people make stereotypical headcanons (like for example a headcanon of a tomboy girl being trans)
Or when people headcanon a guy who is feminine as trans
this, i see it a lot with flamboyant/feminine guys being headcannoned as gay, even if they have zero even remotely romantic interactions with another male character

This :'3 I hate when people push it off as fact
Exactly like??? 😕
yeah, it's some kind of "death of the author". if I spend so much time writing a character, or use my life for inspiration and some 16 year old comes along and put their "interpretation" on it, somehow their view trumps mine

I've noticed with Leon, the people headcanoning him as such are trans men themselves, so they're only trying to relate with him.
idk i just think racewashing characters in general is super weird and in my opinion it won't hurt u to leave a black character black like just leave their race alone 😭 but in the end i really don't care what u do in ur free time and at the end of the day as long as ur being respectful ab it i dont mind
but i probably won't fuck with u if u racewash tho 💀
YES. like a headcanon could be like, it would be cool if this characters was tan because they spend a lot of time in the sun, thats fine.
I headcanon Balloony and Cloudy as the parents of Rocky (in BFDI) and Rocky doesn’t even talk in the show (he’s not mute because he can make some sounds) and acts like a baby so I can still get mad at people for shipping him with anyone (or drawing nsfw of him like that one user wth)
i don’t get why people are so mad about headcanons. like, let me have my silly little guys 😭😭😭
EXACTLY, i genuinely don’t understand why people get so upset about them
just now I watched a video of someone rant on a tiktoker who made a video about Alastor from Hazbin Hotel being black coded or whatever and then I was like ok and then I saw a comment that says she reminds me of those sonic fans that attack artists for making knuckles white and saying that she's woke

when i draw humanized nonhuman characters, i usually do as much research as i can and if a race isnt implied or explicitly stated i take the characters canon “skin” tone and try to find out which skin color’s value matches up to it ^_^ 21:40
OUVH SERIOUSLY LIKE IF IT ISNT HARMFUL STFU
Self indulgence is confort food for many artists, sometimes they wanna see themselves as a character too so they change certain aspects of a character to fulfill their fantasies.
I personnally find headcanons cool but those who posts those headcanons on Pinterest saying that the character is zoophile or a p€do and add a lots of "pride" flag that don't even exist (I saw headcanons on a MINOR saying that they're plushies sexual like whattt) 😭

8:17 Chihiro Fujisaki from Danganronpa is a male and I’ve seen a lot of ppl hc him as a mtf or gender fluid or non binary and I find that rude to the character development bc the main thing was that he was a man who was bullied by the public for being a feminine looking boy so he put up and act and in the game he wore a skirt and acted like a female
Edit: I wasn’t expecting this to be popular
I Headcanon Him As Genderfluid-

It's like they ignored the entire context behind his character to project. Being trans would go against his story.

Rick Riordan for example has many LGBTQ+ characters, disabled characters, characters with different ethnicities, etc. he also co-wrote a book with a queer author (Mark Oshiro) to "get a better representation of the characters." I honestly love that Rick knows how much of an impact he has on his fans, especially his younger "audience," and that he genuinely tries his best to get the most representation he can, if he needs help with showing representation, he asks for help.
i’ve never seen this hc for nico but i love it so much!! :D
I've seen a lot of LGBTQ rep over disabled rep especially neurodivent
There's a lot of that on Pinterest
took the letters right out of my keybord, i feel like its a big problom
I either do things that I would've done if I made the show, or something that I just think would be an interesting spin on the character
genuinely no idea why people get so offended over headcanons, like if you don't like them just keep scrolling
unless it's like a ship between a minor and an adult or something similar like that, because that is 1. illegal and 2. could genuinely harm/trigger people
exactly like I don’t get it
I think a good example of this is Gwen Stacy from Atsv, I’m a trans man and when I watched the movie I realized how EXTREMELY Trans coded she was to the point that people argued ( and still argue) if she’s trans or not… I personally thought and still think of her as trans and I felt like it would fit her character if she was.
I agree lol, I myself don’t see her as trans BUT she is most definitely 100 percent an ally.
I love hcs for the same reason :DD
I think that race and sexuality headcanons should be done for fun or personal comfort of the person and not just to go against other headcanons or to “fix it” it implies one race is better then the other. Also it often takes away representation of other people. I’m indigenous and Mexican (mom indigenous and dad Mexican) and I headcanon pinkie pie as those things. Of course you can be black and those things but I am light skinned so I make pinkie pie light skinned and been attacked for it. I have hair much like pinkie pie. I love black pinkie pie but I think it shouldn’t be used against other peoples head canons thank you for reading
I guess HC’s ARENT that bad but some people just over-do it and they like try and insist that their HC’s are canon or smth and they’re just really annoying about it😭😭
Exactly
i love making silly headcannons to make people upset (mainly with the cod girlies community) and then have serious headcannons with close friends/mutuals
I'm fine with headcanons but I do have some types that I don't tolerate such as
1. Anything that's borderline racist or just really biased (like that miles is a shoplifter one or sexuaility hc based solely on stereotypes)
2. When it gets treated as Canon or what the writers "totally" intended
3. When it's a redesign/ rewrite that gets labeled as a headcanon
4. When it becomes ridiculously popular (widely accepted fanon)
Honestly, headcanons are just fine and are fun for the most part. There are a few, however, that are unnecessary and uncalled for.
8:15 when thinking of misguided gender headcanons, mizu definitely comes to mind. i remember having a conversation with someone online who headcanoned mizu as a trans man, and they’d be blocking anyone who tried to speak on how the headcanon was problematic. when asked to explain, they pointed out how mizu used he/him pronouns and never corrected anyone, completely disregarding that she was forced to live as a man purely for her own safety, that she’d more than likely be murdered purely based on her gender. at a first glance these headcanons could also be read through the lens of it being based on masculine woman = trans stereotyping, but that also ignores the fact that mizu was literally at her happiest when she was married and living as a woman. although i think it says something that although their stories share similar themes, mizu is frequently headcanoned as trans whereas you never see the same in her more traditionally feminine counterpart akemi. and again, even if i can see how some elements of her story could be relatable to the transgender experience (e.g binding, using different pronouns, etc) she did it because SHE’D LITERALLY BE KILLED IF SHE DIDN’T. overall, i feel like the whole headcanon just really misses a big point of the show, that being the injustices and lack of rights for women in the time the story is set. simply writing all that off by just saying ‘mizu is trans’ is both ignorant and outright disrespectful to the very real stories blue eye samurai was meant to portray.
exactly this but with susato
i make so many hcs abt my interests, most of them being self projection. but i love hcs so much and i already made my point but everyone else made amazing points too!! i agree with all of them one way or another. i still stand with my “as long as its not harmful or weird, idm” lol
This reminded me of something i see alot in the Omori community- alot of people make headcannons about sunny being autistic (i headcannon this myself, since i'm autistic and can see myself in him) but alot of people make it weirdly steryotypical. alot of peopl;e who HC this also HC sunny to be completley helpless and childlike for his age (This is a sterotype of autistic people, espeically autistic adults, that people with autism are ''basically just infant's/very young children emotionally'')
Another thing i see alot is with Basil (who is implied to have stuff like BPD, anxiety and possibly schizophrenia?) and this is sort of in the cannon but never specifed, but alot of fanfics sorta remove all his problems and make him into a perfect neurotypical guy ig, which i sort of find a bit iffy since it IS heavily implied in cannon (
Yes, I absolutely hate it when characters are hc’d as autistic just for being ‘silly’ or childlike, bc those are harmful stereotypes, and even if we seem ‘childlike’ it’s the way we express ourselves yk
You might as well ad helmets to them, I mean, I'm 36, neurodivent woman, and can act childish sometimes
Notice how most of the ppl who have “cringe” headcanons are either queer or neurodivergent. I think ppl who hate on headcanons are usually inherently queerphobic or ableist bc it’s literally just a silly headcanon 😭
Anyways I’ll continue to headcanon my silly South Park kiddos as queer bc it’s fun 🥰
Those terms get thrown around too much :/
I'm neurodivergent AND queer and yet I hate cringe headcanons? don't just assume things, dumbass AHHAAHHAHA
Which ones?@@NerdialYT
@@dont_know_my_name abliest, queerphobic, homophobic, trans phobic, trauma
I saw the head cannon on TikTok when I still had it was someone head cannon Luisa from Encanto trans just because she had muscles.
I find some head cannons interesting
And denying that is to deny art in of itself
Let loose and have fun yall!
Just don’t know why people can’t just let others be sometimes :(
Fr, some people are really stupid; and like... isn't he tan in the actual anime??? He and Zoro look tanner than Nami, Sanji, even Boa sometimes 😭
NO FR AS SOMEONE WHO DRAWS LUFFY OR OTHER CHARACTERS WITH A BIT MORE TANNED SKIN IT MAKES ME SAD SEEING SOME PPL SAY STUFF LIKE THAT 🥲
I’ve seen people say some HORRENDOUSLY racist stuff when it comes to stuff like that and I just sit there and think do y’all not realize how racist you sound are you not ashamed of the jokes your making like it makes no sense
That does make sense dudes in the sun all the time
man head canons- onistly i love and hate them. for me its just really how the person acts over it. some headcanons are always safe and chill (example being mugman being shy) yes its not true but its quite harmless. some are well ehh for me, more or less the ones covering heaveier topics. it also depends on how people act about it. of corse someones not going to like your head canon if your shoving it in their face or getting mad at people if they dont use it. plus some people go around trying to claim that their headcanon is "fact" which sometimes leads to creators of that media telling people its not. onistly feel bad for the creators of the media the fandom senters around as man that must be annoying.
but all and all to me headcanons are fine as long as the creators are not uncomfterble with it. for something i do with headcanons tho is that i make seprit aus to put them in. this really helps to me as it can let ya have a open mind when looking at other peoples things or the main midea. which also reminds me that sometimes i see people fight with others about things that achally have bine confermed by the main creators ;-; .... at the end of the day its not worth fighting over fictional charaters over the internet their pixils at the end of the day ;-;...
tip:
one tip tho is if you wanna get into making head canons i do recomend making a au as it can help keep a open mind of others headcanons. yes i know their not aus but to me thinking of them as such can really help people keep a open mind ;w;-
also darn- i almost wrote a hole assay with this comment xD (joke ;w;)
I don’t really care about headcanons I do it myself from time to time but if it’s my own personal Oc’s it bothers me on a personal level I don’t know how to explain it
“kenny has no hoodie, a red shirt and blue pants, and white hair.” thats not kenny thats waldo (omg we found him no way)
When I started the Magnus Archives I thought lonelyeyes and their six divorces were cannon, I was devastated when I realised it was fannon
i headcannon pinkie pie as a pink pony
i have a perfect example for a character whose gender is important to their character: hifumi izanami from hypnosis mic! he has a crippling phobia of women due to unspecified trauma (its heavily implied that he was s/ad, but nothing has been confirmed). he started working at a host club to try to get over this phobia, but ended up developing a second personality of sorts where hes super flirty and perfectly fine with women whenever he puts this specific jacket on. his gender clearly is very important to his story but ive seen people headcanon him as a trans woman for some reason?? which makes ZERO sense with his character. ive also seen people headcanon him as transmasc which isnt as bad, but it has some icky implications that im not a fan of... idk. people r really weird about him in general and it annoys the hell out of me
1:27 bro I can confirm this.
I love when you post, your art is beautiful!! :3
The drawings you made look so pretty !
I'm fine with headcannons as long as people don't shove it down my throat or claim it to be canon.
Personally ive always seen pinkie as white (probably bc I was a white kid with blue eyes and curly hair) so i think i kind of saw my own appearence in her but i do think pinkie being black is a really cool headcanon
Edit: to add i mean i also had blond hair (Its darker now)
I had to take a moment to focus in on the colors and cutie mark of the pony at 15:09 and watched the whole drawing of that pony up to that point like: “twilight doesn’t have brown hair..?” and then it clicked and I was like “OHHH THEYRE DRAWING THEMSELF AS A PONY!”
for me personally i love projecting on to any character i like. many times i just really see myself in them and relate with their experience. which has lead to me headcanoning soooo many charcaters as bi (not any characters that are canonically les or gay ect though)
and this is probably a hot take here but i really don't think there's a problem with lgbtq headcanoning canon straight characters. the difference between canon straight characters and canon gay characters is there's so little lgbtq characters while there's tons of canon straight characters. i don't think it's a problem if some people headcanon them as something else since there are already so many straight characters out there for straight people to feel seen by.
my only exception is if their sexuality plays a large role of the story and is integral to the plot. (not just like a running gag of them being a simp or smth like that ex. sanji)
++ also this is just a rule of thumb for anyone but NEVER force your headcanons on people, so much in fandom i see people saying "YoU CaN'T sHiP THAt thIs chArACTeR IS ________".
also pleaseplease respect authors, showrunners, mangka ect, and never harass a creator over a god damn headcanon you heathens
I honestly tend to instead of raceswap make the characters half something, one of my fave cs are Dazai (Bungo stray dogs) being half latino, since i am latino myself i like to hc him as half chilean, but i agree a lot with you! most of my hcs of him are just me seeing myself in him
The headcanon drama is massive in the Lego Monkie Kid community let me tell ya
A. Cupid! 21:38 Pretty much in a nutshell
27:42 A character or a series has an intention, CONSIDER IT!
i really dont get why people hate headcanons sm. like just let me make Kyle chubby and short, everyone keeps getting mad about it cz people say "kyle is the the tallest" THERES NO FUCKING CANON HEIGHTS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
my only issue is when u dont say hc on ur headcanons. like i fr saw someone saying "rodrick facts!!" and said "he is a homosexual and he is transgender and actually uses she/they/xe pronouns!!" and nowhere, not even the caption, did they put "hc" or "headcanon" and they got mad that they got hate for it. like pal, you said that as if jeff kinney decided that, not a 13 y.o. on tiktok. so yea, if u have headcanons that go against what the character was written as, (rodrick is OBSESSED with women) please put the fact that its a headcanon bro its quite confusing for new people in the fandom 🙏
btw i have nothing wrong w that headcanon, but i dont personally agree with it 😭😭
edit: the creator meant homosexual as liking men only, along w being a transfem im pretty sure. cuz they drew him a bf so idk 🤷♂️
I write fanfics just for the fun of it and i do use very popular headcanons just for the story, But I do think people do it way to much and it can get very weird very quickly
i love headcanons, it's fun to see people's interpretations of characters!
Dude I know who you're talking about. The lady who made black deku and Muslim froppy?
@@NerdialYT Yeah. Tho she was a troll probably, so I wouldn't say she did it bc she genuinely wanted more representation in anime. She did it to get a rise out of people. If ppl are drawing themselves as an anime character I don't rlly see an issue no matter which race, but redesigning an Asian character to be another POC bc "it's better" is weird.
oh my gosh! I love your design of C.A. cupid!
I do agree a lot with this, I’m happy you made this tho
Beautiful art as always
My favorite headcannon is that Edward Scissorhands is non-binary:) I’ve met a lot of fans who agree but some random i meet get mad, like, it’s a headcannon, I’m allowed to have it. Also, I have actual reasons too! Like let people have fun
about headcanons
homestuck is seriously one of the best pieces of media to headcanon
But I do remember being called a white washer only two times because of a character from a show called Rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles
So when I was 13 I had a TMNT phase and rise of the TMNT was my absolute favorite especially the villains, I drew them so much giving them backstories, sexualities, ect.
One time on Tik Tok I showed my Redesigns of Marinette and Adrien from the multiverse special and I made a headcanon about Adrien being a Transfem Lesbian, it was kinda a joke in the beginning because a lot of people say the original desing looked like a lesbian, and my redesign kinda looked like one, but I keep the headcanon because I tought it was kinda cute
But then I got attacked for that 💀
People told me I made them worst and asked why I changed them so much (bro, it’s a redesign, what do you expected?, I just give them another artstyle and clothes)
Heck, someone say I just made that headcanon because I didn’t love myself
I asked why they were so mad about that and I say it was just a headcanon, like, plz chill, and they say they “didn’t have anything against headcanons” (proceed to attack me again)
Agghhh I’m sorry I wrote you a whole essay but I’m shocked it showed up in here
The art you made for this one is so cuuuttee, I especially loved the last pic 🖤
i have a story regarding headcanons/non-canon ship that makes me giggle every time i think about it:
i’m an editor and i edit a *lot* of dincobb (din djarin + cobb vanth from the mandalorian) and i had one edit that did really well (that tiktok has MUTED because of the copyright thing) but in the popularity of the edit came a *lot* of star wars dudebros
and there was this one comment that was something along the lines of “mando (din) isn’t gay he has a wife you weirdos” so i respond with “literally when what??” and this guy came back with “when he took his helmet off to kiss that woman” LIKE ??? that never happened LMAO so in being pissed about my headcanons dude is making up his own
tbh this is probably only funny to me but whatever
I love headcannons tbh,it's so fun to see other people's headcannons (mainly on tumbl rbecause there''s a lot of lgbtq hcs there)
My BFDI headcanons
Ship segment :3
Astrobiology/treehole because I’ve seen some beautiful animations of it and I’m joining in
4x because it’s silly and canon
Fireafy. Do I need to explain?
Balloony X Cloudy because I headcanon them as Rocky’s dads which is adorable
Pencil X Match because they act like girlfriends and I headcanon that everyone knows they’re girlfriends except them
Alright enough ships now random stuff
Leafy would be a buff girl as a humanwith very wavy hair (I have really wavy hair like 2 seconds after brushing it starts tangling again) not sure about race prob a darker skin tone
X is a Therian not sure what Theriotypes but probably a small rodent or songbird (I could see him also doing quads and making masks)
4 is a Furry but the type to have too much power and know it (it’s hard to explain)
Rocky has a very small amount of braincells (the most likely to be canon one)
Honestly, I don’t care much about mischaracterization
Everyone is going to view something different from a character based on who they are and what their life story is. Sometimes people like a characters design but not the character themselves and make up their own version of said character, which I think is fine especially if it also helps them like that character more than they would
Characters and stories are meant to be interpreted in ways that resonate best with who it reaches, and if that characterization is radically different than what the author was going for I don’t see the problem, I do that sometimes for characters I love the design of but hate the character of or have things I want to change and all it does is help me get more into the fandom then I would
Now of the character has a certain message it’s meant to portray, then that’s where it gets tricky. He’s an actual sexual abuser, obviously I’m not gonna take that away from the character because it’d be erasing that these types of frankly awful people exist in real life)
I am a panty and stocking enjoyer and my pfp rn is stocking but my skin color I never claimed she was my skin tone or it was bad that she wasn’t she’s white(or Asian since this is a Japanese show) but I was on TikTok and someone said
“Fixing stocking’s design” and made her my skin tone(like a light brownish) I don’t believe it needs to be “fixed” over anything they should be fixing garterbelt since they did make him kinda.. as a black stereotypical character which I don’t agree with how the creators of pantry&stocking with garterbelt made him look especially with his lips idk what it is abt ppl making their lips brighter than their skin I see it as a stylized choice but when they do it to be kinda racist it’s not…🤷🏽♀️

Yes I used MLP I am way past the age range for it (early teens) but I still enjoy the show and the head cannons and redesigns people do for them!!
imo how i decide skin color for mlp characters i just eyedrop the color then use the color wheel set it to an im-between orange and yellow(or red) to get the skin tone lol
I totally agree! I love headcanons, but there are definitely lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Great video :))
Unrelated, but what markers were you using for your art at around 16:00 ? It looks really good :3 your art is really pretty.
Thank you!! They're from ARRTX :]
I actually stopped headcanoning things for shows and other things that are ongoing, because it ruined my love for one of them
I love spooky month, but when I got into the fandom and started joining in the headcanoning, I started just hating it, nothing was fun, and every time I had something in my head “I think this character is aroace” Immediately I got got with “actually he’s pan”
And there are other things… like forgetting two characters are siblings after not watching the show for a while… yep.. that was an embarrassing moment. So. Just, rarely do it anymore.
(Mostly it’s shipping I don’t do much anymore)
Sorry for my ramblings, I just have a scrambled eggs brain
ONE MUSICCC
I also make weird headcanons like on how anime characters would play in mud
Ok headcanons are dope but Why do they come up with such absurd terms for everything tho 😂🙄 I would be thrilled if someone did this with my own characters
I love headcanons but what I cannot stand
Is people headcanon s3xualities on characters that are like 6-8 years old. Because it’s way way to common
I'm not a fan of that either to be honest :/
Maybe if it's kids making those hcs then sure I guess, but when it's adults doing that it gives me an icky feeling. Like, sure sexualities aren't inherently sexual, but do you really NEED to do that with a kid character as an adult :/
@@baby_carrot_art9006 I see a lot of 18+ people putting sexualities in little kid characters and it really grosses me out
i absolutely LOVE headcanons. especially when someone headcanons a character i really relate to as non binary because, GOD I LOVE PROJECTING ONTO AUTISTIC PURPLE CHARACTERS (cough, rise of the tmnt Donatello, cough)
One day I was talking to someone and I told them that how I'm mixed (Nicaraguan and British) I love making mixed hc of my comfort characters because it makes me happy... And this person said "then you are racist? Because all anime character are Japanese, it you change their race you are racist" I'M NOT, I don't change their skin color or anything, if I'm hc Edward Elric as half Japanese and half Guatemalan is because it makes me happy OMG 😭
(Also I make neurodivergent hc but I only hc then with the things I have so I won't fall into stereotypes)
Since we're talking about headcannons I really want to hear everyone headcannons on there favorite characters for fun!
pinkie always came off to me like a redhead, but maybe thats partially just me projecting lol
