    The last time I priced palletizied lime it was about 3 time the cost of damp lime. What do other farmers in your area do for fertilizer and lime? You have mentioned before that they are hard to get in your area. We are pretty lucky here in Central MD. I have a fertilizer dealer 15 minutes from the farm and lime is a hour away. It definitely helps to unlock the fertilizer. It was hard for me to spend the money on lime. But now that I have I can see the difference in the hay. Probably going to lime again this year or next. Thanks for sharing Chris.

      I'd say 3x the cost is about right. Closest bulk fertilizer plant is 45 minutes away and ag lime comes from a few hours south of here. Not exactly sure what the issue is this year with getting some as I've never had a problem before. I saw the same thing you did, so I try to keep up with liming every few years. Thanks Monty 🙂

    Glad to see you’re able to make do with getting somewhere. I am at least sorry to hear it’s not readily available in your area. Curious if any of the drinking water municipality treatment facilities in your area, use line pellets dissolved in the water to bring out the scale and hardness of the water and then they settle that out in the pits and then they have to get rid of it that’s where I get my lime it’s more of a Miral or clay type line but I get it for free.

      Now that is very interesting! There are a few water facilities in the small towns south of me- I will have to check in to that. Thank you for the tip!!

    I like that dump truck. 👍 I have found for myself anymore that even though it costs more, I prefer bagged fertilizer, easy to store on pallets, and nice to have on hand to work with the weather. Have never tried bagged lime though, although after watching your video I would definitely consider it in the future. There is a guy over my way that hauls and dumps triaxle loads of bulk lime, seems to be able to get it anytime. 👍 take care.

      I like bagged fertilizer for the same reason. I think one of my issues is I need to buy lime through a retail outlet of some kind because I need to rent the spreader from them. Maybe if I had my own spreader it would be easier to get lime since I could buy it from anywhere. Thanks!

    I'm fortunate that our local water treatment plant uses lime for cleaning the water. They always have some lime. However, you are right in that it is what it is as far as what is in it. My coop uses a nother place that has a better and more consistent mix. Good luck with it. It is better than doing nothing.

      Normally I don't have any trouble getting any, but this year has been tough. Alll of our lime comes from hours away. That's what I figured- better than nothing 😅 Thanks Tim!

    I don’t think most Farmers know how important lime is. Yes it kinda seems expensive but it will pay for itself. I do variable rate so that helps offset the cost. Again another nice Maxxum.

      I don't think so either. I've seen hay fields do better with just lime and no fertilizer compared to putting down fertilizer and no lime. Definitely worth the investment if your ground needs it. Thank you- I have one other 5140 that hasn't been in any videos yet this year 😆

    I tend to use pelletized lime on the fruit trees, and garden. I think you need more than that to over do the lime.
    Thank you Chris.

    Dry powder and special applicators here.. but we can get the pellets.
    Nice thing about the old JD fertilizer boxes, they came with a cubic foot scale. Just like a bushel scale.. that's how you calibrate..

      There are places around here that will deliver and spread as well, but since they are 45+ minutes away it's not very cost effective. Thanks Ed!

    My fert distributor started offering pelletized lime in one ton bags this year which they will spread or load on their buggies for you which is the route I went. Supposed to be 300# equal one ton of ag lime. Early results are looking great.

    We have the opposite problem here, our soil is sand and limestone. Compost helps lower the pH from over 10 to 6-7.

    • @dehavenfamilyfarm
      @dehavenfamilyfarm  Год назад +1

      That would be a problem I wouldn't mind having because I haven't had any issues getting compost delivered 😅 Thanks!

    Is it okay to spread ag lime on established pasture in late summer?

  • @mfults6915
    @mfults6915 6 месяцев назад

    We use pelletized lime but only 200lb per acre is all you need per acre. Pelletized is a much better lime than agg lime

  • @mfults6915
    @mfults6915 6 месяцев назад

    40lb pelletized lime currently here is 3.47 a bag if you buy 70 plus bags
