    Ian, I just asked about this a few days ago on the KS... If you don't have the pack fully filled, is the length of the rigid portion short enough that the pack will fit the airline 9x14x22 bag dimension sizing box? By that I mean, it will easily fit the 14" dimension and the 9" dimension should be no problem because of the compression straps. However, if the bag length (stated on the KS as 23.2" if I recall correctly) is measured as the minimum dimension of the rigid part of the bag frame, then if you get asked to prove fit, you won't be able to do it.
    However, if that 23.2" dimension includes some of the compressible part of the bag beyond the frame (and the rigid frame part is actually shorter than 22"), then it will fit as long as the bag is not filled fully.
    I've been asked to "prove" my bag was carry-on sized before (and it was an f-Stop Ajna, so it met without difficulty), so I'm thinking about these things a bit and would like to have that precise length for the rigid frame portion to be sure. Thanks.

      The frame height with consideration to the material that goes around it is about 23 and half inches. If your Carry-On test box is smaller.... it will likely not fit. As I say in the video, do not rely on the pack for Carry On. - Ian

      @@ShimodaDesigns Hey Ian, i'd like to add to this question. I carry on an xl icu with 600mm f/4. I use it with both my explore 60 and fstop suhka. The Suhka was over the limit but the frame is removable which made airline travel a breeze with it. I simply took it out and put it in one of my many other bags. Is this an option with the x70?
      If not then what is your word of advice for a bag that can carry on an xl icu or preferably the new xl core unit (which i'm sure holds super telephotos better). Im trying to lighten my load and not travel with so many backpacks just because i'm doing different styles of shooting. I also really dont even need all the space of the x70, just need to get the supertele around and have it match up with all the other core units in my kit. Is it out of question to pair the x50 with the new xl core unit?
      thanks,
      Blake

    There's so much I like about this pack, but it is missing one big feature... grab handles all the way around. Any chance you'll be updating it with these? I see the Explorer V2 got them, so just hoping.

    Hi Ian, really like what I see in this new line of bags. I need something better suited for 1-3 night hiking trips and this looks like it would be perfect. My current backpack is the Lowe Pro ProTactic 450 AW. It's simply not got sufficient space to bring along a tent, sleeping pad, quilt, plus all my camera gear. I have a trip coming up to Glacier National Park, leaving July 17. I'm strongly leaning toward purchase of the X70 and with a Large DSLR X Core. I see that I missed the Kickstarter project and that Action X items will start shipping in May. If I place an order in the next 1-2 weeks is it a fairly safe bet that I'll have the items before mid-July? I'm located in TN.

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  4 года назад

      I would like to say it is a safe-bet but due to current precautions with Coronavirus and the unpredictable nature of it I can not offer more than saying a portion of our factory has returned to work begun and is currently working on Shimoda production. From the initial work stoppage and CNY holiday, we lost about 30 days and are hoping that delays reflect the time away. - Ian

    nice review Ian, thanks. I'm looking for a larger bag to accommodate my GFX100 system. Does the X50 or X70 support a GFX body with lens on it? Usually the interior height is a problem.

    This will vary by individual and type of trip, but from your experience, how many days could you go on a backpacking trip with the X70, e.g., in the Pacific Northwest?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  8 месяцев назад

      I think it better to look at in the perspective of it being a 70L bag. Different camera needs reduce the space and inevitably limit what you can bring. I could go for a week with some camera set ups, and a night with others. It's all up to you and what your gear (both camera and out) needs are.

    Hey, Ian, I noted during your X30 video that you said you set the straps for the X30 in the L position and that you are 5' 8". What do you use for the X70?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  5 лет назад +2

      It varies depending on the day/activity, but usually Medium or Small. Generally more aggressive and less gear inside, I like it snug (S/M). Uphill I like the weight lower with a bit sag rather than top heavy. But then on a downhill bike descent, I might go Large to keep it sitting low. Where as a steep scrambly down climb I might keep the bag higher to lessen the chance of the base catching on a ledge. It depends on the adventure, but in general a Medium.

  • @JohnLamjohnlsl

    I kind of interested on the bag, but I can still unable find any information on what it the max load it design handle
    as I am looking for a backpack that can handle 20kg-30kg gear load on a daily basis
    with the ability to handle a least medium size (something like at Gitzo systematic )and one travel size tripod at the same time
    (Currently, I have a Gitzo Adventure 45L backpack that both side of shoulder straps have a critical structural failure in less than half a year and want to avoid this for my next bag)
    Alos and another thing I need to know and cannot find is how compact this back can be when it is fully compacted
    as I am looking for a backpack that can be compacted as lease flight compliance at flight and can expend to 60-70 L when needed
    (this is a big headache for me as for me leaving in a small city, nearly all my outbound travel include a flight)

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  5 лет назад +2

      Hi, Maximum load capacity for one shoulder straps breaking point is upward of 100kg's. Of course we do not recommend this much of a load, but the pack has a sturdy harness with well padded straps and belt that uses an aluminum frame to help distribute weight. The shape of our shoulder straps also contributes to greater weight distribution as does the fact our Core Unit's have frames. Max recommended load IMO is more dependent on the user and what they are physically capable. You will be able to carry 30kg in our pack - I can - but it's not something I personally would exercise on daily basis like you are doing. But the pack can handle it. The minimum frame height of the x70 is 60cm. That is the only point that does not compress to a the size of the chosen internal Core Unit (plus a small amount of the materials, straps etc.).

    I'm shooting with fuji X-t2 ,4 lenses and accessories, so i was wondering which core unit to buy. I want to buy the X70 because i backpacking a lot and need space for my hiking gear but i was wondering if the mirrorless core unit is not too small for that bag, meaning , will it "float" in such a big bag? what are your suggestions?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  4 года назад +1

      Hi It would be OK IMO, it will float as you say but when packed properly it should stay in place pretty good. Also, it depends on your lenses but you might entertain trying a Small CU. If I recall correctly those lens are pretty small?

      @@ShimodaDesigns Thanks a lot for the answer. Because i need a mirrorless CU, which is pretty small, i wonder if a action X 50l will be big enough for a multi days trip with my camping gear. Let's say that i have the same camping gear as Ian in the video, but with a mirrorless CU, do you think it will all fit in the action X50? thanks. I tried to find info on the web, but with no success

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  4 года назад +1

      @@stephanep2288 I'm sure you could do it but the extra space would be a welcome luxury for me. It also depends on your food and water supply... That can take up a lot of space. I guess are you willing to deal with packing stress dancing around available space? or do you want the extra relief of not worrying about it.
