Hi Payton, Just found you on RUclips the other day. I've been chasing Great Lakes Steelhead, Salmon and Lake Run Browns since my college days . Watching your videos has put a smile on my face and helps me unwind at the end of the day. Keep up the good work ! Vladimir
Hey Payton I would enjoy seeing a video of your nymphing setup from distance of flies, types of flies you use for your area, to where you place your indicator. That would be super helpful. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I got my first steelhead two days ago after watching another one of your videos. I bought and used a glass bead in front of a White Woolybugger and it worked like a charm! The power of these fish is incredible! Thanks for your great videos.👍🎣
Killer male steelhead!!! Dark color, nice red stripes. That one you lost was a pig. Just happens sometimes, he just jumped and shook the hook. That baby carp was weird too. Almost thought maybe it was a giant golden shiner at first but i think your right its a baby carp. Cool! Probably had a big steelhead whack at him. Cool spot, water was muddy and still did really good. Was that a thingamabobber indicator or wool? Fish on!!!
@@PaytonHanssen And I don't know what Great Lakes tributary you're fishing here. But if you ever get to SE Michigan give me a shout out and maybe we can meet up to fish some of the local hotspots I know of. There's great rivers to fish in the northern LP too. The Manistee and Tippy Dam, the Au Sable, the Pere Marquette...
What creeks did you Fish. I know some out in rockchester I Fish them. I do a lot of Centerpin fishing . I am going this December to SR I live in NJ. I going to check out Grind Stone Creek. Every time I go there o always pass over it and never check it out. I like your fly fishing video. Great to see woman fishing. I have 3 daughters that I take trout fishing myself. They love it. Tight lines keep the videos coming. 🎣👍
I fish a couple small creeks local to me in NY but I also fish Oak Orchard and around that area. Thats awesome though! I haven't made it to the SR for steelhead but hopefully soon. Trying new spots can definitely pay off, Good luck! that's awesome you take your daughters out, I used to fish with my dad all the time when I was kid :) Thank you for watching!
Those were some nice looking fish. Where do you fish? Lake Ontario or Erie? You should come fish some rivers in Michigan. We don't have big numbers but the size of the fish make up for the numbers. 10+lbs is pretty normal here. I have a couple friends that spay cast for steelhead with large minnow Patterns and egg flies but I do much better with a spinning rod and spawn bags under a bobber.... which is basically the same as nymphing with a fly rod.
I'm on Ontario :) I've done some spinner fishing like that and it definitely works good! I've never made the trip to Michigan tho but big fish sound like a riot to me!
Thank you! I was using a couple different flies -- small pink squirmy wormies, prince nymphs and a pheasant tails were the ones I used for this video :)
Ever fish north east Ohio? Let me know when you -if ever wanna fish, 15 mins from grand River-and chargin,, lake county, 30+ yrs on both Big Steelhead- smallmouth 👍🏻 best-regards
great fish! little friendly tip when i fight steelhead i keep my rod tip high and vertical. I find that the rod puts better tension on the fish. You do alot of 45 degree angled tension. which is fine when wanting the turn the fish but back and forth too often in a fight often results in a spit hook. It is known that angled tension does help pull against the fish harder but these arent giants with 20lb line we are using...straight up is best
@@clammerify Haha are you following me? I have taken classes from George Daniel, I can show you countless evidence of Jeff Blood explaining this as well. Two of the best trout fishing pros in the USA. Tell me where you get your info from child?
Hi Payton - didn't know you had a channel, but like the vids. Ran in to you below the dam (the professor) and chatted a while after you caught a steelie. Hit me up if you want to hit the lower Niagara this spring and try for trout and bass, and I hope you have continued success with the fishing and your channel.
Hello I just sent you message from instagram it's kimmy we talk from time to time soooo excited I told you to do this best of luck I will get the word out ❣️
I’d never heard of Great Lakes run browns in the U.S. Very cool. Here in Ireland we call them Dollaghan.

We’re you using a glass bead with that fly as well? Great videos.
Yes! I will pair the beads with flies sometimes, it works really well!
I am interested on the nymphs you use for steelhead

Looks like a gizzard shad?
I'd like to see your nymph setup. I fish the Lake Ontario tribs with streamers so I'd like to see how you do it.
I can definitely do a video on that! thank you :)
Neat vids, just found your channel! Are you filming with an Osmo pocket for the tracking?
I use a PIVO! Its like a tripod topper that tracks body movement!
