    it's actually so nice to see someone being honest and real about their uni experience, when I moved to uni all I saw was people saying how amazing it was but that wasn't how I felt at all and i was SO lonely, just remember you're not alone, I still get wobbles now and I'm in my second year x

    Molly, I appreciate your honesty SO much! I hope your homesickness gets better (which I'm sure it will as you get even more settled!). Lots of love! x

      YES! I've never related to a video more, and its so reassuring to see im not the only one finding it so difficult! I was so tempted to go home this weekend but decided i'm gonna try and last one more week! I hope things are getting easier for you and you settle in soon! If you ever need someone to vent to off the record you can always DM because I honestly know exactly how you are feeling! xx

      it's difficult at first, very difficult, but I guarantee you in 3 months from now you will feel completely different. It's a big adjustment and takes at least 3 months to get used to, but stick with it and don't go home just accept that you will feel like this for the first 3 months, it's inevitable, but 3 months from now you will be loving it.

    I think the whole ‘don’t ring home, don’t talk to your family’ thing is so dumb... for me it helped so much as it made the whole uni thing feel not so permanent and life altering ... if you cut yourself off I think it makes it harder!!

    I visited home loads, cried for weeks and found it really difficult to settle when I started uni but now I'd do anything to start first year again, you'll find your place and your vibe and tribe, it does get better and worst case, its only like 9 months! x

    Hope your home sickness gets better, I graduated last year and for my last two years of uni I commuted everyday to Nottingham which was over an hours drive! Yeah it cost me a lot more but I was happier! Living away from home isn't for everyone! Please don't feel guilty for coming home etc, you need to feel comfortable xx

      everyone has to move out at some point ! and homesickness is normal, it takes about 2 months to get over you just have to push through it!

    • @lyd271
      @lyd271 6 лет назад +1

      I think although everyone has to move out at some point, some people find it difficult to move out at the age of 18 or whatever to university as realistically people don't tend to move out into their own house at that point so it is going to be a shock to the system. Also, when people do eventually move out, quite a few people tend to stay local, whereas with university, people struggle as they go hours away sometimes which is hard

    • @maneskinnnnn7190
      @maneskinnnnn7190 6 лет назад

      when you are 18 you are an adult so you are going to have to get used to moving out at some point in your adult life, it's never easy, it takes months to get used to, but you have to stick with it and persevere as you are going to have to do it at some point.

    It's so nice to see someone be so honest about their experience of moving to uni, yes its exciting but it's also so scary and unsettling. When I moved to uni I cried so much and went home after like 2 weeks haha. I promise you though it get's better and after christmas you'll just feel perfectly fine at uni and you'll still miss home sometimes but you'll love uni! Lotta love molly, hope you're okay xxxx

    I went to uni last year and I understand how you feel. The homesickness suddenly hit me in October so I went home and then I was fine after having a little taste of home. Best thing you can do is don’t go home as much, get a routine. Also FaceTime is the best.

  • @TheCiaramcguiness
    @TheCiaramcguiness 6 лет назад +1

    Hearing this experience totally mirrored mine. I went home after my first week and I begged my Mum not to send me back (even though uni was my choice, ha!). It sucked and even though there was nothing particularly horrible about uni it was just such a massive change and I couldn’t stop thinking about how I’d never have the same routine again. By December I had a great set of friends and the homesickness had died down. From someone now going into second year, it does get better. Don’t do what I did and totally avoid every chance to socialise when all you want to do is go back to your flat and FaceTime your family and boyfriend. Jump into it with two feet. I ended up loving first year so much but like anything it took time. You’ve got this!

  • @abirobrob
    @abirobrob 6 лет назад +13

    Honestly don't worry about not feeling settled and still feeling homesick in your first few weeks or even the first month. Your first month at uni will probably be one of the strangest experiences you've ever had. You are so surrounded by people but you feel so alone. As long as you are going out, socialising and having fun then you will make connections with people and that will help you to feel so much better! It's just the lack of familiarity in the first few weeks that is so overwhelming. As for living with all boys, once the other unis have started and it's freshers try and have the confidence to knock on the doors of other people on your floor so you can find some girls that are really close by that you can chill with! You'll be fine and I'm sure you will love it once the first few weeks have passed! x

    I did a 2 year Foundation in Fine Art and honestly I am so glad that I didn't do the full degree. It made me realise that it wasn't what I wanted to do- but it did mean that I had a lot more experience when doing my next course. I have now gone on to do a Honours in Graphics which has made me much happier!

    Molly your honesty is so so valuable. I am in my second year of university now and even now it’s been difficult to come back and find the balance of being happy to be here but homesick at the same time. Hearing your honest opinions has made me feel so much less alone- thank you so much❤️❤️❤️

    It’s hard moving away from home for university. But one thing I’ve learnt from my experience is that if you don’t get along with your flat mates, it’s not really a big deal. Just try and be positive and focus on your university friends if that makes you more comfortable x

    I really struggled in my first year of uni. I cried every single time I got dropped back off and went home most weekends. However it really does get better. I loved having my car at uni the following two years because it gave me the freedom and security knowing I could drive home whenever I wanted to. I would say wait it out and if you absolutely hate it, it’s not the worst thing in the world dropping out! X

    i did an art foundation course last year! i kind of wish i could go back and redo it cos i feel like i didnt get as involved in the work as i could have, but my course made me realise that as much as i love art i couldnt do it as a career, now im off to nottingham to study something completely different! but thats the beauty of foundation courses, its like a trial year to see if u can do it as an undergraduate. just explore everythings thats offered to you and hopefully you'll find that light blub moment of what you feel super passionate about! but if not, please dont stress

    Molly I know exactly how you feel. I moved to university last year and the homesickness was so bad I spent so much of my time either crying or wishing I was at home. For me it never really eased up so I transferred to my local university and I’m feeling much more positive. It’s 100% down to the person, the fact that everyone enjoys university is not true! More people find it more difficult than you’d think. Don’t force yourself to do something you don’t want to do, happiness is a far far more worthy than a degree💕

    Molly ❤️ I started uni 10 years ago (showing my age!) And I'm still friends with the girls on my course - we celebrated our anniversary during the summer! 🎉 Uni has its highs and lows but was an amazing experience. I actually went to Leeds too and I'm from London so feeling homesick was big for me. I also struggle with knowing what I want to do and I'm 29! I think your anxiety and worries are natural. The what ifs are tough. It's okay to feel that way. You go girl, you're doing your best! X

    I started uni this week too and I hate it. It’s 6 hours from home and I know no one. I cried myself to sleep every night because everyone goes clubbing but I have no one to go with. I just want to drop out already 😞 my housemates don’t really mix and because I’m naturally shy I haven’t made any friends yet because there are so many people on the course. I really want to do the course as it’s something I love but it’s 4 years long and I don’t know how long I’ll last as I’m just so lonely 😓

      Seriously you have to tell yourself "everyone is in the same boat as me" because it is beyond true. If you're shy now is your time to fake being confident. I know its so much harder than it sounds but you have to do it. Just literally talk to ANYONE ask where their from etc. then ask them if theyre going out for freshers and arrange to meet up. There no better way to make friends then when you're drunk. The more people you small talk with, the more friendly faces you have around college in which a simple hello when passing by them can turn into a friendship!! Good luck x

    • @Iona_moss
      @Iona_moss 6 лет назад +1

      Are you part of any group chats for your course? If you aren’t- join them! Try and find a fb page that is like course finder and there should be a group chat for your course? This really helped me, as I am so shy too! It’s taken me until now (I’m just starting third year lol) to finally feel comfortable with my coursemates, but it would have taken longer, if at all, if it wasn’t for getting to know people beforehand on the group chat! I feel it’s easier to talk behind a screen and you can put a face to a name once you get in there and know you have technically already spoken to these people. Also, societies are amazing for finding like minded people! I didn’t have the best experience with the actual societies themselves but I made loads of friends from them and we still talk now even though I haven’t been involved with the society for a year now. Things will get better x

    hiii! it’s really cool of you to not pretend that you are enjoying every single thing of uni and it’s quite refreshing to see all of your honesty with how you’re feeling and your situation. I started uni this time last year and struggled so much that I had dropped out within a month! I just wanted to let you know that it does get better and you’ll eventually know what is right for you! I really hope that you manage to get over the homesickness soon, it’s the worst feeling EVER, and that you start to feel better about it! 💖

    Honestly don’t worry about what you’re ‘not supposed to do’ when you start uni, just do whatever makes you happy! If FaceTiming your family every day or going home when you need to is what helps you then do it, it’s exactly what I did and I’m about to go into my second year and i think if I hadn’t done that then I wouldn’t be at uni still. Don’t beat yourself up over it, give it time and do whatever you feel is right xx

    It's refreshing to see you being so honest about how you're feeling at Uni. I can relate so much - I felt exactly the same 3 years ago when I started at Uni! What you said about watching Zoella's vlog to feel calmer really resonated with me as I actually found Alice Thorpe to watch as she was a fresher at the same time as me, and she made me feel so much better because starting Uni is scary and when you feel alone youtube can really help!! I also came home every weekend in my first year for an entire year, and totally understand that sometimes that's what you need to do to feel better!! I hope your homesickness passes, I promise you it will do, even if it takes longer than you'd previously anticipated! Xxx

    I was older before I moved away for uni and I moved in with a boyfriend and I still really struggled. I couldn’t imagine doing it alone! I phone my parents nearly everyday just to chat about their day as I would have spoke to them like that when I lived at home. Everyone has doubts, it took me months to settle. Do not feel bad about phoning home everyone is different with how much they want/need to talk to family. What helps me is knowing when I’m next going home, I always get more homesick when I don’t have a trip home planned!

My whole outlook changed and this year I’m so excited to move back to university, and actually have a house that will feel more like home! The first few weeks/month is hard and it feels so lonely, but from experience and someone who thought that I would never feel at home or part of it, it does get easier and better! I'm third year of uni now and I nearly transferred/dropped out after my first year because nobody socialised in my flat apart from one girl who was home 4 out of 7 days a week, I was literally all on my own on a course full of people who commuted in! I'm so glad I stuck with it now though because it's a great experience and after a few weeks it'll be so much more fun! Good luck xx

    I loved this Molly! It made me so happy to see you have a lovely time in London with Eve 🖤 I really hope that next week is a better week for you. It breaks my heart to hear you feel lonely and upset. You deserve all the happiness in the world and I really hope that you find that 🖤 I can’t wait for tomorrow’s vlog, I hope you’re enjoying home. I love you xxx

    I never usually comment I always feel too old to be watching (23 lol) but I had to on this I’m so glad you’re talking and being real about this side of uni! I was in a similar boat when I first started I was unsettled and homesick and I didn’t get on with my housemates at all I spent every night in my room FaceTiming my boyfriend, (I ended up moving to a different uni) but things do get better and what’s meant to be will be, don’t feel bad for missing home it’s natural, good luck and I can’t wait to watch your journey through uni! X

    I literally loved this video so much!! I subscribed right away! This was so me last year and I felt very weird for feeling so lonely and out of place in what is meant to be 'the best time of your life'. Your honesty is everything, and its so important to let others know how you are feeling is normal because I feel not many people realise that and beat themselves up about it. I actually decided to start a youtube channel myself to primarily vlog uni life because I want to give a realistic view of what it can be like for a lot of people. However, I also want to say, stick to it because you will find true friendships and it will become so worthwhile! Hope you feel better soon and always stay true to yourself, loved this video so much xx

    I move to uni on Friday in Leicester and its 4 hours away from where I live, im super nervous and was worried that I would be the only one feeling like this but after stumbling across ur vlogs and ur channel it has made me feel more settled and made me look forward to moving..... Im so happy I came across your channel becuase I know that when I move and feel low about being away from my family I can just log into youtube and watch your channel..... GOOD LUCK FOR UNI and i cannot wait to watch more of your videos xx

    Don’t put pressure on yourself to be more upbeat for the viewers, if anything it’ll tire you out more and that won’t help anyone. If you need to take a break, take a break. Focus on yourself. Honestly. You’ll feel good. Do you something that you enjoy, so if you enjoy vlogging keep going. But don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

    I moved to uni last year and found out I was in a flat with 3 other boys and just me so I know exactly how you feel but I can assure you once you make friends on your course you’ll hardly spend much time in your flat anyway due to being out with friends and at their flats, as long you get a long with your boy flat mates you’ll be ok!! Stick it out❤️❤️❤️

    I love how honest you are in this, but your homesickness will get better! I was exactly the same last year when I started university, but after the first couple of weeks it started to get better - I'm sure freshers will help with that too! Also, love the earrings you wore to the event on Thursday, where are the from?! xx

    I feel the exact same! I'm moving out next Saturday to go to uni and am terrified of feeling alone as well as being so far from home as I'm moving 3 hours away. It's so normal, I just hope that once I get there I feel ok and I hope you start to feel better about everything soon x

    the worst thing you can do is second doubt yourself. what ifs are gonna hold you back from enjoying things. Homesickness is a bish but trust me it's going to get better. Having girls in your flat could be nice but honestly it gets better. As long as you get along them it's fine. Uni isn't all about getting settled at once you'll get settled trust me on that!! Just hang in there

    I just got back to uni for my second year, and I found leaving home after this summer so much harder than last year. I think part of it is last year my dad came and helped me move in and get settled, whereas this year I did it all alone. I found it hard at first last year because I moved to a new country for uni and knew absolutely no one, but my flatmates were super welcoming, and by the end of October I felt like I had found a good group of friends. Up until that point, I was alone a lot and just kind of stayed in my room, but once societies got up and running and doing events, I found ones that interested me and that helped me make friends with similar interests.

    First year is definitely difficult. I’ll admit that I didn’t like my first year and I think many people will agree that they didn’t either. It’s not always as great as it’s made out to be. But there are definitely really good times that you’ll remember forever xx

    everyone feels homesick in the first few weeks or months of starting uni. I was homesick for the first 2 months and cried for 3 weeks straight, wanted to leave and just hated it. After that 3 months in I loved in, I soon got used to everything and my homesickness disappeared! it takes a while to get used to but stick with it, it'll be worth it I swear!

    With the toilet situ, try pressing the button many times as it may have got stuck. Or if you can, get into the cistern bit and press the flush for the inside, that usually will stop it as it’s just the toilet filling up 🙂

    Hope this week goes better for you! I know its really hard to feel yourself in a different environment but you just have to give it time. I can assure you that most people are feeling the same. I would honestly just say get yourself out there as much as you can, try and make a close friend that way you won't feel as lonely.
    I start Uni on Monday doing a Fine Art course and I feel as though it can be daunting, however everyone has different styles and not one persons idea is more important that the others. Sharing creativity together betters you and I really hope that it makes you feel the same.
