    Good comparison. Everyone I know with Trues has the True squeak. I honestly don't even hear it anymore, but mine sound like a rocking chair when I walk. I've had TF's for a year now and no issues at all with rust. I don't remove the insoles but do air them out after every skate. I was going to get some Catalyst but after your review going to stick with my TF's. I don't have the space issues at all, I have really thick feet, so no negative space issues.

      On one hand, I am sure True sent me these in hopes of getting more sales of these skates. On the other hand I am happy you TF are still working for you.
      I am glad they came out with the Cat skate as I do feel there was too much volume, so bringing out the 2nd fit profile allows your foot shape and my foot shape to have an option with True!

    Great video with a lot of information.
    FYI - the TF9 tendon guard uses a bolt and not a rivet. Apparently the more flexible CAT tendon guards will fit on the TF9. True sells those separately for $30US/$35 CAD. Some people had issues with the bolt breaking off with the TF9 which is why they went back to rivets for the CAT skates. Perhaps the lack of flexibility in the tendon guard is also part of the reason that happened (the Easton Mako tendon guards are WAY more flexible than the TF9s - the TF9 guards hardly move at all like you illustrate in the video).

    Thanks for posting your review, very informative. I just got the Cat 9 a few weeks ago. The blades were both warped, they changed them right away and I also upgraded to the black steel blades, keeping the reg steel in my bag as spares. Although I have only played a few games on them, I can say they are the most secure fitting and comfortable skates I have ever had, so far so good. Also, I took a good slap shot right off the skate boot in my last game and it didn’t even faze me. I was going to get the full custom skates but I couldn’t wait the 8-12 weeks as my season has already started, my other skates were giving me issues with lace bite on my left foot and it was becoming to painful. I tried on a dozen different brand/models and decided to get the Cat9’s, thought they were pretty good right out of the box but after the heat molding they felt fantastic. Initial impressions are good, will see how they hold up and perform during the season.

    For anyone looking at TF9’s, my experience with them is exactly the same as this reviewer’s. I wear 9’s for Bauers, 8.5’s for TF9’s. I installed Powerfoot inserts into the toe box of the TF9’s, and also replaced the tongue with a thicker felt tongue. After those mods, the TF9’s fit perfectly. Sounds like True corrected the sizing on the Catalysts so that they now match other brands.

I did some research and my bauer T1 NXG skates from what I can find are lighter than any skate ever at 657 grams..... I’ve been running the TF9 in 9R for 3 or 4 years now. Loved the skates but had to put the tongue in as far as they would go and also a set of “power foot inserts” i believe they were called (foam to take up negative space). Wanna try out the Cat9 and did the true scan and I come out with 10R for sizing. What’s your thought on the sizing? difference one size difference between TF9 and Cat9 seams a lot to me.

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  Год назад

      True and retailers have said that the warped steel has all been swapped out now and they should be fine. Obviously I can't confirm that but I'd hope that isn't just smoke and mirrors.
      For sizing... I don't like giving out my sizing as everything will have a different preference for sizes and majority of people I have talked too are in skates too big for them. So... all I will say is I wear an 11 in most shoes.

    • @HockeyReviews

      It felt like I was on rails for a bit compared to my Tuuk on my custom skates, but after a profile and slight pitch adjustment I haven't had any issues. Steel is solid and I wouldn't swap the holders just to swap them.

      @@HockeyReviews would you recommend paying the additional $ for the pro vs the cat9? I'm on quad zero and ccm sb 4.0 holders. What pitch should I adjust the shift steel to on top of matching the quad 0 profile on it to make it similar

    • @HockeyReviews
      @HockeyReviews  Год назад

      I think it depends on how well you fit into retail skates. I've always been "don't buy customs unless you REALLY need it, or you just have the money to spend with no problem."
      I don't really fit into retail skates, so I basically have to go custom. These Cat Pro are actually more comfortable than my previous True Customs were so I am impressed in that regards.
      I don't think you would have to pitch anything with the CCM holders. Just get Quad 0 and you should be pretty fine.

      @@HockeyReviews thanks for the reply. I was curious the diff with the cat 9 and pro since the retail trues are pretty thernoformable. Only issue I have with retail ccm and Bauer is where the toecap meets the quarter. That area always rubs and or pinches my pinky.

      The saran wrap should pull your heel back into the skate as much as possible, so you really shouldn't have to do anything there unless you are getting heel lift.
