Right. However I could have had more playing at each step. Most of these reviews don't take enough time to show what an amp can do. This one at least covered the bases.
Great review and great playing. Long time Magnatone fan. Best friend had a 1 12 two knob (vol and tone) model that had the same look as this amp when i was a kid in the mid '60s. I never forgot it. I had an Estey Mag 1 12 amp in the mid '70s. Killer bedroom amp. Wish i still had it. Neighbor had a panOramic he used for accordian All i wanted to do was hit it with a Strat type but never got the chance (rip, dc). Played the new stuff locally (Gelbs/HAM) and was blown away by the sound and build quality. Not cheap but worth it, i think.
This is a great demo, but the only thing that may confuse viewers is that he says a couple of times that the treble and bass controls are “very interactive”, when I think he actually just means they each have a broad range. Interactive would mean that as you adjust one, the other one is affected as well, like the treble and bass controls on a Vox AC30.
This is NOT a stereo amp. The built-in effects ARE stereo. There is no effects loop and the input jack(s) is mono. So, you can not run a stereo delay pedal into this amp and have it be split into a stereo signal. OTOH, it does sound glorious.
@@mikeaustin4138 the manual states that the inputs are Hi and LOW. The built in EFX are in stereo but you CANNOT input a stereo delay into the amp so you were correct
@mikeaustin4138 Your original comment was correct (and the gentleman in the video is not correct). This amp has stereo output but NOT stereo input. It's one of the only legit complaints about this amp. The two mono inputs are simply different gain levels, same as most amps, even tweed Fenders from the 50s. It does have stereo line-out's though so you can record its warbl'y vibrato goodness in stereo direct from the preamp if you wanted.
a friend of mine had a Magnatone Stereo Amp & I got to play thru it a few times...super lush reverb.. that was around 1968-69 & it was quite beat up so it must have been around for a while before he got it.
BTW, anyone thinking about buying a head and running two cabs (which is what I'm planning on), I've read that the speaker Magnatone uses are WGS G12C/S. They are a different color, but otherwise they look the same.
I know I'm late to this discussion, but any thoughts on Magnatone Panoramic vs Orange Rockder 32 stereo? I briefly played the Orange in store and liked it. I played the [non-stereo] Magnatone too and was quite impressed--but is it worth the 2-3x money?
A truly amazing amp - and player. No less than majestic. Unfortunately slightly misleading in one respect- the inputs are not stereo but Hi and Lo sensitivity. Only the onboard vibrato is in true stereo.
I don't believe this amp is true stereo so the stereo effects into the input are being summed to mono and then back to stereo after the preamp. Right????
How is it "stereo"? Two amps playing the exact same thing is not stereo, it's two amps playing the same exact thing - both mono. Stereo is a system of recording different sounds (instruments) on different channels, so when you listen back they come out of different speakers. Two mono amps playing the exact same thing is just two mono amps playing the exact same thing. You could accomplish the same thing by running one mono amp into two cabs. Can someone knowledgeable please clarify this? Wonderful demo, BTW, with wonderful playing.
The vibrato feature is true stereo as it warbles from one speaker to the other and back. If you turn that off then you are correct, it's mono. This video was mixed down to mono evidently so it doesn't demo it well but other YT demos of this amp do the stereo vibrato justice. It's quite an effect to behold in person; it's mesmerizing. The gentleman in the video is misinformed though, the amp does NOT have stereo input.
Sounds fantastic! I played one and love it!!! Who cares about the CEO letting off some steam. I'm seriously considering buying one to both add to my arsenal AND support the First Amendment.
I just bought one of these. Watched every video and can find on it. This video should have been titled "how to use your wammy bar on the end of every lick" lol. Holy shit Tom lol.
That's the Body Wood, Maple Neck, Style Pickups, and Strings more than anything really. Some of the Tinny Sound could be contributed to the "Stereo" System too...That's something I tend to stay away from. If I were going to buy a Magnatone Amp I would want to see the Build Work inside...They're sorta Pricey. $$$
Great amp, problem is the price $2,800? 24 watts with 2 tens? Other great American manufactures 48 watts 2 twelves! = $2,700. Give me 2 twelves 36 watts then maybe. If I could not buy it for $2,400 max. then I'll pass. Just too much money not enough amp!
After going through 3 of them they can keep that crap broken junk. You know they have to pay for these reviews since the ones I got were of the worst build they care about the look polished turd
I've had mine for ~5 years now and it's still effectively mint condition. You can find pictures of the insides, it's hand-wired and built with top quality components. I'm thinking you're doing something abusive to your amp that you shouldn't be doing.
This is a new amp. The rights to production were bought by some smart people who saw an opportunity. This is the only company that has pitch-shifting vibrato, and it's patented. That is the one unique thing about Magnatones.
Just ordered this heavenly amp, happy Father’s Day to me!
Tom is a fantastic and humble musician. Playing is sublime, good review!
Man what a beautiful tone! That amp sounds amazing
Tom you really know how to review an amp, one of the best IMO
To me, the most important job of an amp is the clarity it can produce a guitar tone. The Magnatone checks that box!
Wow, every tone he dialed in sounded awesome, quite the amp!
Right. However I could have had more playing at each step. Most of these reviews don't take enough time to show what an amp can do. This one at least covered the bases.
@@Smitty65721 'Basics', bro. 😉
The AM and FM modes are Amplitude, and Frequency Modulations, for the trem or Vib
love your playing man, great review, want!
This amp is magical.
At 10:00, Tom talks about stereo inputs. But the manual says they're Hi and Lo sensitivity, not stereo. Which is it?
Its high and low sensitivity, he is misinformed
@@robertisrael338 Yes, this is not input left and input right like Tom is suggesting here but rather two mono inputs, different sensitivity
Great review and stunning amp!

It is stereo. It's 2 x 12 watt amps being 4 x EL84 tubes.
@@peterdadswell7998 I stand corrected (after 3 years...) I was basing my comment on a review by another YT channel. Thanks for the correction.

Tks and your playing is superb. Wonder when outputs in use if speakers still on duty ?

Is it the Twilighter? It does not have a stereo effects loop. I did not know you could use both the hi and low inputs as Stereo returns.
yeah whats up with that?
You cannot, the guy is wrong. The hi and low inputs are no different than the ones on a tweed Fender from the 50s.

i want one sooooo badly
How would you run this amp wet dry wet with ping pong effect? I did not really hear it panning right and left.
I owned an original 62 460 Custom Reverb years ago and loved it. Best amp reverb I ever owned and the vibrato, well, it's a Maggy after all. :)
Very cool!
I want one !!!
How loud is this amp? Is it louder than a deluxe reverb or ac15? I'm interested.
I own it and can say with certainty, yes it's VERY loud. No issues gigging unmic'd.
Re-iterating the question below... What is the OD pedal??? My guess - Zendrive

No one cares
Sounds fantastic. If I had that kind of money to spend, I'd also be looking at a Victoria 35115 or a Carr Rambler / Mercury
Is that the Dual Fusion in the front?
I was introduced to Magnatone through Phil X! Did anyone else have the same introduction?
I don't believe this amp is true stereo so the stereo effects into the input are being summed to mono and then back to stereo after the preamp. Right????
Correct, the guy is wrong. And although that's a bummer, this amp is still a slice of heaven to play in person.

Why do so many reviewers not use standard instruments people know the sound of. It's kind of pointless otherwise.

Whilst I do love Tom Quayle's playing and demos, someone needs to take that whammy bar away from him, LOL
A bit brittle for my ears, but pretty. Voxy, Knopflerish. It's a condiment, not an entree unless you're into rockbilly
Might’ve just been his guitar... what he was playing in neck position in the beginning was heavenly!

wonderful player but that guitar sounds like a freakin squier horribly bright and plasticky
Strings are rattling a lot on this guitar...
Appreciate the detailed demo-with real music, but I would rather not hear the whammy bar at the end of every phrase.
Make your own demo of a Magnatone without using the whammy bar then. Tom plays how the hell he wants to. Duckhead!
👍🔥🎸🦅
No master control. Bummer.
this baby is meant to plug in pedals
I'm not spending $5,000 and have to rely on pedals. I agree this thing needs an attenuator. But I do think this amp is made for the stage.
