thanks for this .... i got over 30 years experience in 3D VFX since the late 80's .... worked my whole life in london soho ... am kinda second generation 3D vfx just slightly behind our industry greats and fore fathers .... started out with softimage 3d back in 1989 ... then ported to XSI ... last few years switched to houdini and loving it .... theres heaps of youtube channels out there offering free learning tutorials for houdini for learning experiences ... Ive run departments .. set up departments ... hardware software ... pipeline ... hiring freelancers where needed with the right skillsets. Got tired of running things and returned to the pure art form of creation ... the hands on ... the vision Skill set ..... previs ... pre comp ... layout ... look dev using Nuke, i know Nuke well ... asset build, materials texturing ... animation .. lighting rendering ... mantra redshift arnold ... fringe stuff ... speed tree ... boujou ... pftrack ... photoshop illustrator ... on set supervisor ... client liason ... let alone all the production tools like shotgun etc etc ... Learning software is easy ... gimme a couple of days ... my whole life has been learning growing .. its all the same conceptually its just different buttons in different places. In this covid climate i cant get work ... nothing for months ... i need a group of recruiters that hire ... a list of emails with the right people to reach out to in the right places at the right houdini focus ... this more important than any showreel imho .... contacts ... Gimme a list of recruiters .. a discord group ... a houdini hub ... As a houdini artist im struggling for work ... id work for free, just so i can express my art My reel is curtailed by my opportunities ... it is not a reflection of my potential
Interesting hearing the perspective of reel music and intros for these types of FX reels. To contrast with motion design reels which are typically edited to music and nicely animated intros are common.
interesting, i must say but atm i see only one problem and thats not a killer reel, its more a problem with studios that they dont wanna waste their time into people's working permit! How about you make an video on this subject with these studios? Its not like everyone can work everywhere on the planet... just my 2 cents, so think about it
hey peoples thanks for u all share ur thoughts . I from India if I don't have any learning or college degree certificate. But I know about Houdini and interested about Houdini , u peoples did u hire me ?
This came right in time as i working on my reel right now..
