Im a fan of any tool that gets me out of a jam in a pinch. No need for a 100 dollar 10mm socket when your stuck on the side of the road. Anything works when you need it the most.
The only place I can risk a cheap wrench or socket that might fail, is at home where I have more of the same size. If the tool might save me a 20 mile walk home, it can’t be a soft cheapo that may fail. A 60 year old Craftsman or Snap-on, a 40 year old PowrKraft, anything of decent quality will do.
@@lanedexter6303 hi lane, I agree, get the best tool you can afford,so it doesn't break, or bust your knuckles!! On this channel I try to do all price points, but mostly middle road tools, thanks for your input!!
Harbor Freight is delivering decent products with the Icon line. It’s a big change from what they were doing 20 years ago. The other off shore tool brands should take note and improve quality. I am wondering how much Icon is eating into the tool truck profits?
Those Icons punch way above their price range. They're great! They copied Snap-On and most importantly, they deliver the goods. It's not a fake rolex type copy, its a copy copy.
Great comparison between Icon and Tekton. I've noticed that the Icon grips look "fat" compared to other pliers. I wonder how long it will take for the Icon grips to start sliding off. They don't appear to be tight fitting. I've had the grips slide off on some of my pliers. Sometimes I think no grips work better.
I like to use gun oil on my tools to help prevent rust especially on my truck tool bag it gets hot and humid in that thing here in Florida and for me the Lucas extreme duty gun oil really last the longest for me. It’s kind of a pain in the ass to have to oil a tool but it bothers me when they get rusty. Funny you made this video because I oiled my tekton needle nose and standard pliers like what you have yesterday after I noticed a couple dots popping up! Tekton used to be my first choice but now I consider my options instead of going straight to tekton. The serrations in the mini tekton needle nose pliers don’t hold up they flattened out pretty quick.
Hi nick yea i dont like when tools rust as well, you use gun oil, never thought of that! tekton is good, but thier prices creep up so they have alot of competition!! thanks for your input!!
Neither Icon nor Tekton make their own tools, unless you are talking about the Tekton USA tools? I'd go with the Tekton, since they know how to at least install handle grips, and design them so they are not obstructing the use of the tool? Tekton has been around longer, and knows what works and what doesn't? I have at least 10 pliers, that have no grips on them from falling off, or just too bulky and they work better off? We know Icon was trying to copy Snappy to a tee, but you just can't use any old material for grips?
All good points Dave, alot of people love tekton, I'm one of them, I love their sockets! Those grips could definitely be a issue, time will tell!! As you know Dave I'm not loyal to anyone brand, and I do buy a lot of USA tools, when possible!! Stay tuned, my friend!
The texkton pliers are USA made and are far superior to the icon/snapon knock offs. The long nose tekton pliers and probably the cutters are Taiwan. Icon tools are made in taiwon as well so the metal is probably of similar grade. With that said, i think icon is beter if not equal to tekton in that regard. I personally do not like the fat icon grips. I prefer the thin, easy to clean rubber. When it comes down to it, i prefer to buy fujiya tools which are made in Japan. However, Klein tools and channel lock are just as affordable, so i buy them as well.
You got valed points, comes down to perefence! japan tools are really nice!! it comes down to what you like and willing to pay, thank you for your input!! stay tuned!!
great review... im definitely going to get the icon neddle nose and slip joints....i just got a pair of knipex cutters for 20 bucks new so im good on the cutters....

Good video comparison Jeff. But I refuse to buy any import pliers as long as Channellock is still making it. They still have a big selection.
Marv, channellock a great name!! its what you like and what works for you, in the end thats what matters! thanks for your input!!
the new tekton pliers are made in the usa with material sourced from the usa.
Thanks my friend for the info!! stay tuned!!
Wilde makes some of the tekton pliers, made in USA.
