Thanks everyone for watching this! I apologize it is a little long, next time I'll need to plan more. I uploaded the sound examples as a separate unlisted video you can find at the end screen or here: ruclips.net/video/3aVQDkO5Lp4/видео.html I also cut a section that talked through the order of the chain because it got to be too long. Here's the final order Polytune -> Trigonaut -> Ugly Twin -> DRV -> Buzzz -> Tensor -> In Limbo III -> Slowly Melting -> Art Van Delay -> Fathom -> Longsword V3
What a great vid! There is a lot about putting the physical pedalboard together, but hardly any about how to choose the pedals that go on your board. You should do more of that. Cool music too! Cheers
this is seriously my favorite video you’ve posted and i watch all your stuff probably watched it like 10 times. would love to see more of this currently :)
This is great dude. As for other board idea videos, could do the obvious shoegaze board, midwest emo board, weird board, noise board, optimal tiny midi board with ur favorite presets, boards to get you close to a specific other band/player's sound. Feel like there is a ton of opportunity for a series of those kinds of vids, and you're the dude I think we'd all like to see do it.
It is wild to me that some people play without a compressor. Honestly mad props to you for that. I've come to crutch them more than I should lol. Loved this walkthrough of your thought process!
@@collectoremitter you could start with shoegaze, then go with noise/punk rock, maybe then to something for synths (the basics one, then to something like Animal Collective for example)
Would totally watch videos like this. You've got an awesome, super soothing voice btw. I'd like to see something like a budget-friendly mini board. Maybe something with pedals that can't be more than 100-150 bucks.
Yep, more of this please. Really interesting to see how others put their boards together, how they stack things, running order, different combos, power supplies, etc. Love all your videos man. Thank you for sharing.
This was a really great video, man! I don't think it's too long, quite the opposite! I appreciate the fact, that you took your time explaining every step!
Yo. I freakin' loved this! Please, please do more. I loved listening to you explain each and every step. Beginner to more advanced, it doesn't matter, you had something for everyone in the video.
Thank you so much! 😄 I really want to do more videos like this but I got swamped with awesome pedals to demo. Hopefully I’ll have something similar ready soon
Shoegaze is a great idea! And good tip about the music. I didn’t really think about that part until I was editing and probably could’ve put more thought into it or made a new track for it
Would love to see miniboard builds. Don’t know about genre, because it could be hard to not make it cliché. Maybe show off interesting combinations to achieve specific sounds? Sth like lofi Ambient (modulated delay, grainy reverb, etc), stacking overdrives, ampless setup, stereo wet/dry ... just some ideas.
Old video, but great! Suggestion (if this is still optional): what about a mini pedalboard where you can add some synth-like Nick Cave vibes, combined with the cold reverb Sigur Ros style, and a little hardcore fuzz kinda like the band Low?
I’d like to see you make a mini board with. 4-5 pedals, that will work well on its own for the basics, but will also plug into a larger board with 10 or so more pedals on it. Little board for grab and go, then the big two part mothership for sonic exploration / wackiness
Thanks for doing this. Was fun to watch. I was curious though about some of the placement choices, in particular the Tensor. Any chance of an addendum video with some additional insights? I never like to copy what others are doing, but I’m always interested in different angles of thinking. Thanks again.
Thank you dude! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I ended up cutting the part where I explained the placement because it dragged on for a while and ultimately the board is simple (dirt -> delay -> reverb -> Longsword) when you take out the Tensor and Slowly Melting. The Slowly Melting I put wherever made the cabling easiest because it’s mostly for noise, and kinda the same with the Tensor. I like a delay before the Tensor but also like delay and reverb after it. Ideally I’d have it between the two delays, but for this band I’m mostly doing stutter sounds with the momentary loop (rec mode), so placement wasn’t a huge deal. Maybe I’ll make a video with the Tensor in different spots in a chain - before dirt, after reverb, after modulation, etc to compare how it could be used
collector//emitter that would be awesome if you did a video on the Tensor and it’s placement. I have mine running before delay, reverb, and tremolo now, but up to a few days ago it was dead last. I was even talking to someone at Red Panda who wasn’t sure whether he liked it before or after reverb. It’s an interesting pedal with so many possibilities that it makes it hard to nail down the “right” spot for it. Pedal placement can be so much fun (at times. Haha).
I agree. I would like to see some Tensor exploration. Mine is first in the chain at the moment. I didn’t think dirt going into the Tensor was working well.
Liked, subbed, want to see more. My suggestion: True Bypass Loop Switchers, SIS cables, power supplies and (this is perhaps relevant for a small board) - a couple of pedals with MIDI capabilities, with a small controller unlocking many different sounds (eg: Line 6 M5, Source Audio One Series pedals+Neuro Hub, etc). Thanks. I'm a 'two fuzz, two delay" kinda guy myself. Like you, I also love all my children and find it hard to choose. For lush modded reverb, I either use my Pedal Projects Marbleverb with a NU>X Mod Core in the pedal's FX loop, or my mighty Specular Tempus 3. If I wanna get crazy, I add a Boss Tera Echo to either of those setups.
Ooh, an all MIDI board is something I’ve been wanting to do! I’ll save that for another video like this. And I’ve heard great things about the Marbleverb, but I never realized it had an fx loop. I’ll probably have to get one now!
Haha, I know it would take a long time, but I'm so curious to know what you're saying about each one and it's placement each time you point to them during the sped up part.
Haha, I thought someone might notice that! I sped it up because I really wasn’t saying much that was helpful, but if I do this again with a smaller board I can get more into that
Start with a compressor end with a pre amp or amp sim, Octaver or filter before everything then EQ then fuz or distortion before modulation, modulation before delay, add boosts wherever you want and then reverb but you can change most the rules.
It's almost left to right on the bottom row then left to right on the top, with the exception of the tuner and Triognaut being at the very beginning. Here's the whole chain: Polytune -> Trigonaut -> Ugly Twin -> DRV -> Buzzz -> Tensor -> In Limbo III -> Slowly Melting -> Art Van Delay -> Fathom -> Longsword V3
It is after all the dirt and before the delay/reverb/slowly melting/longsword. I actually recorded the process of figuring out the order and it would’ve pushed this video to almost 30 minutes so I decided to cut it.
This is something I’d love to do! I need to ask around and see if any of my friends have amps they can lend me. It could be cool to do a video comparing pedals into a Fender, Marshall, Orange, and maybe something else

DUDE, REALLY, AFTER ALL THAT TIME PUTTING IT TOGETHER YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PLAY IT FOR US! :/
The longer the better!

This is like an ASMR pedalboard video. So relaxing.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it!
My exact thoughts.
this video brings me an indescribable comfort and i return to it often

That "genre miniboard" could be so useful, Ian, please!!!!
What genre do you think? so far people have suggested ambient and shoegaze
collector//emitter honestly any genre would be cool. I’m more interested in the process than the end result personally.
@@collectoremitter you could start with shoegaze, then go with noise/punk rock, maybe then to something for synths (the basics one, then to something like Animal Collective for example)
Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed, I just come back to this video and unrustle my jimmies.
Can we get another video like this soon please?
Everyone always asks for me to do another of these, I'll try to soon!

Thank you! A budget board is a great idea! I’m already thinking of what the best setup could be.
lol. "budget"
Merry Christmas forever

I want to see more videos like this can you do a basic/beginners ambient board what essential fx you will have
This is an awesome idea! Thanks 😄
Thanks for sharing this with us! Nice to see your process. I have an 11-pedal board at moment.
We need more of similar content! Maybe small board for experimental creative process

Nice video and lesson.
Could you update It ?
Thx.
Definitely share more of those thought process videos! Great!
Thanks! I’m really glad you liked it :)
Any suggestions for a theme or genre for a mini board for the next video like this?
I‘m into shoegaze stuff... so what about that?
You have a great voice! Maybe consider to use a little less relaxing background music next time?! 😉
