As a photographer myself, your point about con creeps perfectly sums up why cosplay photographers get such a mixed reputation. I usually refuse to take pictures of just one cosplayer; makes me too uncomfortable, regardless of their express consent. I prefer asking groups of 3 or more people, as they're at the cons to have fun, same as anyone else. I also feel like you could've added a point about panels at anime cons. Not everyone will want to attend/host a panel discussing only anime. Maybe they're into cryptids, travel, food, etc. that don't necessarily fit in an anime con, but still wanna enjoy or learn about something.
Yeah I honestly find it safer to just be very cautious around other photographers and videographers. Most are good of course, but it can be really hard to tell who isn't at first. This is a great one! Okay I added it to the list! Thank you so much
I agreed with many of your points, though as a staffer at events, it's really discouraged not to seek out help from con team members. That can be some very dangerous advice. Most venues do have info desks available that can guide you to the right direction.
Something that very much should have been stated about buying anime figures online, there's lots of fakes out there. If you're new to buying figures or figure collecting, do research beforehand so you don't get poor quality fakes that don't help the Japanese industry.
We should actually see about getting some good run down videos of the differences in the 'nerd' con types. Ie literary, scifi, comic, gaming, anime, popup, etc
Were all 80 of these anime conventions? I know nowadays people call every nerd related convention an anime convention but there is a difference. I know something anime related can be found at any con, but there are differences between comic conventions, gaming conventions, science fiction/fantasy conventions and anime cons. The comic book conventions seem to most focus on celebrity autographs and photos while also being the only cons really where you can find comic book vendors and artists and writers. Gaming cons usually have the biggest arcade and gaming rooms out of any of the cons. Sci-fi and fantasy cons focus on shows, movies, and books of those genres. Anime cons usually just pretty much focus on anime and manga. They don't need to cross with the others as much since now anime is the main nerd hobby these days. I do appreciate Otakon being lowkey a Final Fantasy con this year though thinking back I think Otakon is actually a Japanese culture con. They just focus on Japanese culture in general which is why I see panels on origami, sushi and such which I don't see at other cons. Like if you're an anime fan going to Dragon Con I think there's not much personally for you as they don't have that many panels on it and I don't think they really have anime voice actors there. But Dragon Con is good for almost everything else especially the cosplay.
hey man just wanna say your videos are cool and i like seeing you go to different anime cons i love conventions and everything about it sure there are creeps and some conventions are better handled then others but overall great experience i wish to go to some more out of west virginia some day with or without friends.
my first con i cosplayed melisandre from game of thrones it wasn't entirely like her outfit but i did my best only thing i used was a red dress a black choker and red lipstick only epic fail i had was packing my stuff in one duffle bag and didn't bring medicine in case of fever of stomach pains
I mean I didn't credit them because their social media isnt really about their cosplay, they are more of a seller. Their IG is oceana.everything if you are still interested
Prize figures are oversized Happy Meal Toys. That’s why I focus more on scale figures. And maybe the occasional popup parade figure 4:06 - Spelling error 5:54 - OMG, you had to bring THAT fella up. He was an eff-nut.
@ nah there’s nothing elitist about it at all. That’s like saying people who invest more money on cosplay are more pretentious than people who don’t. I used to collect a ton of prize figures. They were fun but once I over collected them, I start to appreciate scale figures a lot more. Even at the $100-$200 range they sure are a massive jump in quality compared to figures in the $10-$30 range. I’d rather get 1 really good figure than 3 okay figures that I would probably sell later on.
@@JustinPinedaMedia I feel like cosplay isn't the best comparison for this. Cosplays is something thats meant for everyone to have fun and do. The only two instances I can think of for spending more money would be professionals and cosplayers who enter contests. I definitely see where you're coming from tho. I guess I'm lucky because I can win easily at my Round 1 so if I do sell my figures I make profit.
@@AnimeMintTea Just because one spends more doesn’t mean they are better than someone who spends less. *shrug* Let people spend whatever they want. No need to judge them.

I've been interested in conventions for over a decade, but there was still stuff here I didn't know. Thanks for making this video. :)
Hahaha I guess I talked about the right things in this video. Glad you enjoyed it

Thank you so much! Never been to a con in that area, but it's on the list. Let's see if I can make it happen
@ConventionReviews ok great! hopefully you can go to the Comic-Con in Huntington or Lexington

Wow sounds pretty cool, other than the whole epic fail part 💀
Fire vid!
Thank you very much
Clicked for the Mizu cosplayer but where did you credit them?

BRO! I watched through this freaking thing like 10 times and never noticed it! Oh well maybe it will get people to comment hahaha
How?? They're perfectly fine collectible figures and you sound pretentious saying you only buy expensive scale figures.

6-2-1. Six hours of sleep, two real meals, and one shower a day. The rules to live by to have an enjoyable con experience 🫡
