The Bachelor show is nothing but a joke. It’s all scripted.
Absolutely should end the series. Not because of this one couple, but because the entire premise is preposterous. This golden couple's biggest mistake was having a lavish t.v. wedding.

I don't feel scammed. I enjoyed watching their journey - actually finished watching it on DVR just before this news came out they were divorcing. I still haven't watched their wedding yet but I will when I have time. I love the Bachelor franchise shows - they're better than watching a movie or sitcom because we know these are real people going through real things.
I grew up on fairy tales but I'm not conditioned to expect a happy ending so I'm not disappointed when I don't get one. I do feel sad or sorry for the couple sometimes but if they realized it wasn't going to work, who am I to question it?
I love older, classic movies but the ones being made these days, including romances, are the worst! Some women are always complaining about being women, how hard it is, how they're forced to do this or that... They seem to feel miserable all their lives. I'm a woman but I don't feel that way. I LOVED being a girl & now love being a woman. I also love men. The modern movies trash men a lot too & make them seem toxic or wimpy.
My point is, I can't stand most modern movies. The 'romances' are usually horrible & contrived. The dramas I tend to figure out early on & to easily. Most are unrealistic, overly reliant on green screens & graphics, stunts... Some reality shows are just as bad. I avoid those but I like The Bachelor franchise shows. I'd rather watch them any day so I record & watch when I can.
Also, the fact we know there's no 'happily-ever-after' ending for this & other couples is because it is real life. A movie would just end, credits roll during the last scene when all is still well & we assume the rest because that's where the screenwriter, director... chose to stop. Since these shows feature real people & real couples, their lives continue beyond the parameters of the show. We got to see the start, the usually magical part of a relationship, some of it anyway, but we don't see the day-to-day which, in any relationship is the hardest but most meaningful part IMO.
Crazy they have made a mockery of marriage. At your big age you should be able to compromise and leave your grown children and grands.

Unlike some other 'choices' people make, with these two, no one had to die (abortion). No one is going to come sue you, try to destroy your business & life because you disagree with their choices & don't condone them... No one's genitals had to be mutilated, as far as we know. LOL They're not demanding anyone play along with them & pretend anything. They're not going to fight over custody of the kids & have them traveling back & forth from one home to another...
Save the outrage for things that matter. These are two older people who want love again in their lives after both having lost their high school sweetheart. They married for keeps the first time. Now maybe they realize it's been a long time since they've done this & much has happened & changed in their lives in between marriages. Maybe this time it wasn't the best thing for them to do.
I'm still happy for them, so glad they found love, & wish them both well.

The show usually picks up the tabe when a couple gets married & it's televised but my understanding is if they don't stay together for a predetermined amount of time, I think two years, married or not, they have to return the engagement ring.
I don't see a problem if either or both made money from having been on the show. They gave up a lot of their time to do the show with no guarantees. Their image & likeness is out there, especially with the show continuing to run on streaming services for, perhaps long beyond their lives... Filming a show is exhausting from what I hear. I'm sure they earned far more than whatever they actually made.
I believe they did find love in the process. Even if they didn't, they gave a lot of people hope & their families, who had encouraged them to do it, sure looked happy.

Why do a press interview if you’re not even going to be HONEST. Any one who is truly in love with their spouse is going to make it work even if it is long distance. I don’t think they’re telling the truth about the reason for the divorce. Three months? They couldn’t make long distance work for a year? Give me a break.

People go on bachelor shows for reasons other than love. (fame, excitement, travel, etc.) Producers manipulate contestants, their dates, etc. all for ratings.. Gerry & Theresa weren't together weeks ago..They should not have let producers rush them into marriage so quickly... Once reality set in, they realized they are better off as friends...

The show itself was a success - they found love & renewed hope for a brighter future. They apparently inspired a lot of people & now, by announcing their split, being honest about it, they're also going to help people that way too.
Though they obviously discussed what their lives might be like after the show, the reality of it was probably very different & much harder than they imagined or expected.
After filming, they had to keep their relationship secret so they returned to their previous lives: to their home state, their own homes, their families, their lifestyles... Nothing really changed except there was a bonus, they had each other & were engaged. How exciting!
Once the show's finale aired & they were able to go public & start melding their lives, that's when they probably started to notice all they'd have to give up to actually be together.
Finding love is great but, like most things in life, one may have to give up other things to have it. In their case, they'd probably have to give up everything else that they loved & were used to & start fresh: new home, new location, new friends, new habits, like more traveling...
That's not easy to do at any age but Gerry & Theresa realize they have limited time ahead. They seemed to have already been happy, they just wanted someone to share their lives, not to overturn it completely.
That's my guess & all the attention they were suddenly getting after the show must have taken its toll too. Having experienced all they have, I think now they'll look for love closer to home & probably not feel the need to get married.
Maybe they'll even see each other from time to time if no one else comes along. They say they're still close & have made a lot of new friends in the process.
I'm happy for them & wish them the best whatever happens.

This was nothing but a money grab. They made lots of $$$ from their televised wedding and sold exclusive rights pertaining to their wedding. Why are people so surprised?
They did not seel rights to their wedding -- all rights belonged and still belong to the show.
What surprises me is how irate some people seem to be at this news. Whether you expected it or not - I did not, why does it trigger so much hostility? They went on a show but this is still their lives to live.
I'm actually glad they didn't feel pressured or were able to overcome whatever pressure they may have felt to stay together after they realized & decided they had not made the best decision to get married. I'm also glad they're mature enough to handle it in a way that's respectful of each other.
When Gerry let Leslie go, she was livid. She showed up months later & was still annoyed with him. Clearly, she's not over her issues with rejection &/or abandonment. I was happy he picked Theresa but now I'm relieved for him because I can imagine how miserable Leslie might have made his life whether he stayed or ended it with her. Sorry but that's what comes to mind.
THREE MONTHS!?! They didn’t even try…their marriage vows and promises to each other meant NOTHING. Marriage isn’t a joke and it’s more than just a beautiful, exciting wedding…it’s a lifelong commitment!!! There should be only TWO justifiable reasons for a divorce and that is abuse or infidelity! That is it!!! Otherwise you figure out a way to make it work!!!

Relationships are very difficult and their are very many reasons why people can’t make it work. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean it’s wrong. We only get one life and life is very hard. You do the best you can.

The way he said “oh yeah” sounded so gross, like he can’t wait to find someone else. That is not the response of a person who just got married 3 months earlier and is now about to file for divorce. There should be some sense of sadness when asked that question. He sounded so excited about it. Even if it didn’t work out, most people would still be broken hearted if they truly loved that person.
They make it sound like it’s partly because of their families. But HELLO! They are both on borrowed time…if their adult children can’t function without them now, what are they going to do in few years from now when they are sadly gone?
This was all about money, and they got free trips, their honor,all kind of stuff! If anyone thinks these shows they are not very mature!!

No surprises here. The show needs to be canceled, not because of this golden couple but because the whole premise is preposterous. Why would either one of these two people, at this stage of their lives, abandon their children and grandchildren to move in with virtually a stranger. I hate myself for wasting time watching this only bachelor show I've watched from start to finish. But I'm done with it now, for good. Such a waste. The producers should be embarrassed. I bet the next golden show won't get much viewership.
I think Theresa fell in love with the character "Gerry" on TV; and then the reality of the real Gerry Turner sunk in. Hope she's okay.

I remember watching them on the Dear Shandy podcast, thinking that he wasn't attracted to her whatsoever. When asked about the qualities that impress him, he talked about her organizational skills. Not that organizational skills aren't lovely, but that's a comment you'd expect from your boss, not your husband. Even she took notice, sarcastically remarking "how romantic" or something to the effect. Aside from physical qualities he could have easily talked about her "love for family" which he expresses here, but it seems that both of them had ulterior motives. I don't believe for a second that they're still "in love" with one another -- yet willing to dissolve the marriage. They might have "love" for each other, and may even remain friends, but it's clearly not as deep as they continue to portray.
I am going to be 70 and never go through this. Never. I will stay single unless God opens the door. I'm happy. I believe differently in their ways. So blessed I don't have cable to watch the series. Sorry ha ha.

One of the hallmarks of a marriage that lasts is compromise. It's hard to believe they could not have reached a compromise before the wedding about their living arrangements. This is a stab to the Bachelor franchise. This is crazy.
Some couples make it work living in other countries on opposite sides of the world. They really can’t figure out their living situation when they both live in the US a few states away? NJ to Indiana isn’t THAT far. It’s like a 2 hour flight.
Gerry says it’s about family, that’s ridiculous. His 2 daughters are grown women with husbands. His 2 granddaughters are like 20 yrs old with their own lives. Why would he need to be with them 24/7? Couldn’t he move to NJ with Theresa and then fly back to Indiana every so often to visit his family? Spend holidays with them, and call/FaceTime them in between? Gerry and Theresa are not being honest.
3 months of a marriage getting divorced is nothing compared to 25 years.
This totally breaks my heart I've been rooting for them I'm so sorry that it came down to where y'all could live I know you have family in different parts of the United States and I know that it's got to be hard deciding where to put down roots I pray for you all and hope that everything will work out okay

I’m not shocked at all! Didn’t like them together at all. The best outcome out of the show was all the girls that became good friends. Cathy and Susan have made their own way and fan club! I never was a fan of Theresa and hope she doesn’t start joining the other girls in anything they do.
