Of course you’d use harpies with modded flight speed. Their use is far worse without mods, so maybe let people know you have that pretty big difference
Yea that shit's pretty annoying
Yeah and the reaper bolt throwers are bad against armored small units
wait did he really make this guide with his knowledge based on playing with mods? :/
@@ojay8699 yep. he mentioned it at the start of the video.
Touch grass
Great tutorial, as I play currently as lokhir fellheart on legendary, I can put here a few tips also. Shades meta is superior to everything else. It 's especially good against lizardmen dino doomstacks at a beginning, which are very nasty because you don't have good starting anti large capability.
High elves are for DE very problematic as they have superior range and will very ofter spam archers like there is no tomorrow. So having stalk on those shades to close the distance is really helpful. And their power in autoresolver is insane. Despite their high upkeep, definitely worth it.
Completely agree, i would also add that shades with greatswords spam beats almost anything, monster spam like stegadons, even royal hippogryph knights, possibly because of the stalk ability, ergo if you are spread out, they have lots of space on every map because of vanguard deployment. But that is only the beginining.
Of all the Dark Elves Legendary Lords Morathi is probably the best, as she has a skill that buffs their melee defence +10 or +12.
However no Legendary Lord is the best for shades doomstack, cause range is the only thing shades lack compared to sisters of averlorn or waywatchers doomstack.
Regular Lords at level 10(Research technologies as soon as you can and build tier 5 buildings and landmarks that increase lords recruit level, for farming the neccesary trait. because the lord either has the name of power dillema or not) have the ability to choose the revered(the one that imporves the lords army) name of power "Shadowdart" in a dillema, if the lord doesnt have it simply disband him/her and farm until you get it. Shadowdart is the single best trait in the game for the unit that can be improved the most in the game, the shades.
Shades start at 130 range, get + range from a tier 2 technology along with darkshards, however unlike darkshard this is just the first step, with 9 points in the red skill line the lord can pick up the skill "Ravager Rewards" which gives them extra 15% range, anc combined with Shadowdart increases their maximum range to 214, which is 34 more than sisters of averlorn. Waystalkers are arguably better as with talent of kurnous you can have 300+ range with them, but sacrifice a unit of archers for the neccesary hero to increase the range, while the Dark Elves can have Only a lord of whatever kind and 19 shades with greatswords with 50 armor, 55 melee AP attack, 49 melee defence, 214 range and 52 AP missile damage, combined with stalk and vanguard deployment. Although waystalker doomstack beats shades with doomstack in marksmanship, it does not even come close in melee, so simply toggle fire at will off and charge to the waystalkers with lets say 312 range. By the time the shades are discovered you will either be in melee with them and chop them up quickly, or they will use their fire while moving shooting, trying to glide and keep out of combat, however with 214 range, better melee stats, more units of shades compared to their less because of heroes needed for greater range, and most importantly 80 man in a unit compared to 60 in waywatchers, will ultimately make quick work of them.
So to sum it all up, Shadowdart Lord with ravager rewards skill and 19 shades with greatswords is arguable the strongest campaign made doomstack, as monsters will receive ton of damage, and shades are pretty quick at 50+ speed depending on lord traits and items, and can simply stalk again and run away when monsters get near, even cornered are no pushover in melee, and i already explained how they beat all others archer based doomstacks.
Take a fire or dark sorceress for magic and 2-3 bolt throwers for sieges, you can have death hag for replenishment if you want and you're set.
@@viktorjordanoski9950 IIRC if you're not on Legendary you don't have to disband if you don't get Shadowdart. Just reload and wait another turn before retrying.
i hate to have those desert area between the order of loremaster and our corner.
i just leave an army yhere to farm rebel and hold off high elf.
while my main army focus on the jungle
btw, im getting my line shredded by high elf phinex tho
ouch that luminark melted a bunch of the black guard at 23:26

My biggest pro tip with dark elves is to play whatever you find yourself most attracted to and to discover your repressed preferences using the impressive roster. You like mommies? Dragons? Slaves? You will almost certainly find something new and exciting here.
I know this comment is old but it so true. Although its mostly the first two.
maaaaan I love your guides, i got the game and didnt enjoy it too much but watching your vids helped me figure out wtf i should be doing. now i have hundreds of hours in it
yeah man, once you start understanding the battles more, the game really becomes so much more fun. the campaign map is cool too, but the battles really shine, especially with cool ass warhammer units that feel unique.
Dark Riders are fantastic for defensive field battles where you are outnumbered. I had one battle where I was outnumbered and sieged by an Empire army with a hellblaster rocket artillery and other siege weapons. The dark riders went through the second gate, hid in the woods, and took out the enemy artillery while the enemy's forces moved towards the city centre. Then I was able to have them charging back into the settlement to win the battle.
I recommend hiding your dark riders in a vanguard deployment, using them to distract the enemy and divide their forces, before you use them to swoop in on a unit that is ranged or routing.
Witch Elves are a fantastic campaign unit when used in combination with Black Guards. Stick the BG on the flank to take enemy cavalry charge, then use WE to force cavalry to rampage onto the halberds.
Bloodwrack Medusae are best thought of as an anti-infantry ranged chariot. They aren't really suited for sustained melee combat but their mass and charge animation lets them smash straight through unbraced infantry formations so they can shoot them from behind or go after the archers.
i love this, i know its not the best of the best comp for dark elves but still very servicable. i love my total war and with that i also love my army to have a certain look or theme. i like shades but following the meta would be mainly shade spam for the most part and that to me just isn't my cup of tea. even if im slightly handicapping myself to get a more in theme army i have in my mind is well worth it. great video man.
I just got my PC rebuilt and running, haven't played this game since mortal empire dropped and I am so excited to get back into it. Thank you for the refresher on one of my top factions
Man.. you are a natural for video editing and making ads. That is one tasty ad. Good guide as always, keep it up
I never knew much about TW and since finding this channel and these guide I'm fascinated and I hope eventually in the future that every Hero/Lord gets included in a guide like the latest from the Warden and Paunch DLC as Colonel Damneders already made a vid guides on the Greenskins and High Elves so a guide on the new units/roster and Heroes would be enjoyable to see
5:40 Charge Defence only works when standing still, which is why these guys were sent flying, he had them charging.
hey Colonel, Next time you do one of these, would you mind mentioning the DLC units come from?
Hmm, I use a similar army composition in endgame.
1x Melee Lord/Hero, 1x Caster Lord/Hero, 2x Witch Elves, 4x holding units (Blackguard, Sisters of Slaughter), 6x Shades GW, 2x Reaper Bolt Throwers, 2x monsters (Hydra, Kharibdys), 2x fast units (Scourgerunner, Black Dragon, Medusae).
Last time I was this early Malekitch was loyal.
But then he picked up the circlet of iron and died
Malekith was always loyal, loyal to Aenarion. The Druchii are more loyal to Aenarion's beliefs and philosophy than the asur
I personally view Soul Flayers as better than cold one knights, as the bound spells can more than makeup for it, and the knights have the rampage demerit, which, while not as bad as it once was, is still pretty bad.
Late game army: Shade + Lord with shadow dart ability + flame sorceress. That is all you need.
Great video like the rest of them, really support your work, i would also like to explain to you the DE doomstack if you one day want to torture yourself on Legendary difficulty and will certainly need it.

Keep up with the good work and let me know if you disagree with this.
Thing you didn't mention about the Sisters of Slaughter is that they are very fast for an infantry unit, making them the end game strike infantry of the DE - especially for crone hellebron.
God, my original end game army comp was nothing like this. Back when I first beat eye of the vortex with the dark elves I had malekieth on calamity, a fire sorceress, 4 black guard, 4 dark shards with shields, 4 cold one dread knights, 2 reaper booth throwers, 2 war hydras and two black dragons, ( this was a late game comp)
Hey Colonel, I don't think light cavalry is supposed to win 1v1 matches against melee troops. They are made for disruption and hitting the back of the enemy front line and retreating. For this particular role, dark riders can be good.
They can rush unprotected artillery (and probably rout soon after, but if you can trade them for artillery, it is a good trade IMO), running over missile units or providing support to your frontline. If you let them stay in combat they will die, but if you always pull them back, dark riders can have good value.
Recently I won a battle against Norsca having only low tier infantry, some darkshards and two dark rider units. Norsca had armor piercing infantry, berserkers and more units overall. The balance of power was against me, but this changed due to my light cavalry constantly disrupting their missiles and hitting the back of the enemy frontline.
For malekitch ME, i found that dark shards, bleakswords and shades will get you through the early and mid game. This is for normal difficulty. The darkshards rip through chaos and elf armor like knife through butter.
So thats why my one ikot claw army was able to hun down 3 army's they had no shields!(also maby one big clump and a tactical nuke.)
good guide and i agree, dark riders are just a waste of money but what i missed was the rage mode the army gets and you didnt mentions that dark elf armies are really expensive
I would replace 2 of the ranged options with Scourge Runner Chariots. If you can micro them well enough they can absolutely tear shit up.
I decided to start a campaing as Lokhir Fellheart and I have no idea what to do. This vid helped a bit
Hello mate, I'm playing as Lokhir on legendary and feel you, it's really challenging. I'm in my turn 150 so I can give you a few tips. Begining is crucial, kick the lord Skrolk out of his house. Secure first province asap. Around my 100th turn, this province was providing me with 20 k of gold per turn. Travel with your ark to Naggaroth to secure trade agreements. After having 2 lords go for teclis, he can be nasty but you have to deal with him before he got the hoemasters and other elite units. Also, have 1/2 provinces with good public order and with all slave + buildings and pump the slaves only into those two.
For Lokhir, I combine corsairs with shades. At least 10 of them in every army. Shades are superior to everything else. They are very good counter against dino doomstack and can easily close distance to archers of teclis. Wish you luck, have a fun :)
Hey now, that ad was solid gold my dude. I'd pay you a bonus for effort if I were the CEO of audible.
Great video! You've improved so much! Now I don't have to get anxiety attack whenever I watch your videos due to the speed of your speech. Great work!
The thing with dark riders of melee versions is just something that you use to lure enemy units into your hidden force's then you have them die
I'm sad that everyone always underestimates the Darkshard doomstack
and darkshard upgrade shades with great wepons
Man these videos are so helpful! Thanks man
Im not sure I agree about having Executioners as a front line holding unit. I always found black guard much better. Sure they do less damage but since your ranged characters spells and monsters are your main damage dealers it doesnt matter much all these are doing are holding the line. But if it works for you :)
same. har ganeth executioners look so sick too, but they're just not worth even getting. black guard are cool too for holding the line, but im all about them sisters of slaughter. they will the hold the line better than black guard especially with a death hag on a cauldron of blood to support them.
@@iamdopeasfcuk I did try sisters of slaughter but magic totally destroys them. Also large targets. Where as black guard doesnt do a lot of damage but takes way less damage with the perks. But hey its whatever you prefer :)
I'm with you on executioners though they look amazing but they aren't usuable. Which is a shame.
@@MorganThorgan yeah, they're weak to magic and large, but they're only a t3 infantry. still that 50+ melee defense is amazing that only gets better when they get some chevrons and a lord that buffs them like hellebron. and they have poison. they're a great wombo combo with witch elves since you can rampage a unit to fight the sisters. and when you fight the sisters, you lose lol. ca did a great job making units the focus of this game and while there are optimal army comps, you can still just pick the units you like and go to war!
I personally used executioners as support infantry, much like depth guard for the VC.
Love the content
When you fight the empire, i hate the the rocket battery specialy if the have several units of it.
Excellent video, well explained, recent and much needed explanation, thank you sir.
Also the mods and how you explained them its awesome, subscribed (Y)
Nice Ad
Shades and hydras boys shades and hydras
So finaly sadist pointy ears...
Cheers
Theres no link to the mods you use?
they're in his campaign guide/part 1 to Dark Elves
Need the regiment black guard
Great video!
Out of all the races in warhammer I admire the dark elves for their... depravity.
With the shadowdart name of power shades get 195 range
So you should use dual sword units as support?
make a roster video for chaos please!
Hey , do you have a wood elve guide?
Is that Mordheim music in the first part of the video?
Is there any reason why people are using shades over blackshards in multiplayer?
Melee when out of ammo, or 1 to hold while the others fire it down
Are you alright? You sound a bit somber in this particular video.
indeed i'm worried its not the first time few videos back the somber voice was there :O
Just spam shades with 2 bolt throwers.
Ooo, will the beastmen be soon? I've been looking at them.
Dark elves are the best faction of the game
18:15 How the *_Fuck_* did that guy get up
How do you get blood rack shrines?
shadow and the blade (malus) dlc
Dark elves are an edge Lord faction to be sure, but their names for things are hard body as fuck
Where is the link to the mods? i dont't see it in the description
I keep forgetting. It’s there now lol
@@ColonelDamneders Thanks, man! :D
You sound like Torvesta
May-lay
I just doomstack, balanced armies are a thing of the past. Shade doomstack for the win. Also did that black dragon have 340 speed?
Wow am I lucky, 1 minute ago
Here is a comment, may it appease the algorithm
Is it just me that thinks if you’re doing a guide you shouldn’t be using mods that affect army gameplay? A pure vanilla experience should be presented
Sry dude, but no. Too much desinformation.
1.Even if you throw cheese away, bleakswords are utter trash. There dmg is bad even on vh/normal and they need a specialised building to recruit. Absolute trash. Your starting infantry is meant only for holding, not damage dealing, this is not norsca.
2.Agree with dreadspears, decent tanks, great holders and has a good dmg vs non-armoured large even on legendary/vh.
3.Darkshards, your meat and bones as dark elves and the main reason of dark elves supremacy vs almost everyone. Trash range but great damage. This dudes melt anyone and anything. Minimum 8 per every army is must have. Also if you use checkerboard+corner camp cheese, you can take a whole doomstack of these dudes(shield ones) and decimate everyone that doesn't have heavy artillery/fast cav components in their army.
4.Corsairs, my favorite tier 1 unit in the game. The meat grinders and the main reason why Lokhir and Malus are stronger starts than Hellebron and Morathi. This dudes are unstoppable killing machines and i am sure that even Legendoftotalwar acknowleges their power. Great armour, high damage even on legendary/vh and 1 major moment-high speed. I don't know why you said that corsair "are sacrificing their speed for armour" and than point unit card where they are faster than anyone except shades. Musthave unit that can decimate even AP missile units like another darkshards or Sniktch night runners. I don't even know how strong they are on normal battle difficulty. Upgrade your black arcs as soon as you can and this dudes together with darkshards will carry your whole early game for any lord(and for morathi even the midgame until every elf starts to spam swordmasters).
5.Witch Elves-trash, don't bother. Too high tier, too niche use. They are used in multiplayer to pin down cav and lords. But the thing is, you don't need it in the campaign because AI is stupid and will give you targets for shooting himself.
6.Sisters of slaughter-decent midgame unit to swap corsair front line versus high elves when they get swordmasters. High holding power and poison will help them to shine as your shield for your shades(at best).
7.Executioners- vh/n flavour unit. Useless both in single and multiplayer. Too tough to get, to weak to bother. No missile resistance and no Anti large capabilities. Shades do dmg, not them. On legendary/vh they are weak even in hellebron starting army vs starting infantry.
8.Black guard, fully agree, but one disclaimer. Hydras are better holders and shades do dmg vs large creatures, not guard. I like to use them vs lizards and Brettonia.
9.Handbows, useless on everyone except maybe lokhir under rite effect that give them AP.
10.Shades-best unit in the roster. If autoresolve wasn't so bitch, i would make doomstacks with them forever.
Great swords are optional for vh battle difficulty but will definietly help when time will come. Use dual swords as quick replenishment option when some of your units got killed. I use LL+mage(fire is ideal)+Death hag for replenishment+2 Reapers for sieges and aggro option, 2 black dragons as cavalry option(if lord is not a flier, if it is than i take 1), 3 hydras for autoresolve beef and formation stablity(don't forget to use their breath attack) 4 if you have flying lord. Rest is filled with shades with greatswords. This setup can kill 2 armies at the same time if you know what you are doing.
11.Dark riders-flee unit chasers and artillery killers, nothing more. Even shielded variant lose vs archers in melee on vh battle difficulty.
12.Dark riders with crossbows- like witch elves, multiplayer unit. Requires heavy micro to use and have 2x lesser damage than darkshards.
13.Cold ones both variants-rampage makes them useless.
14.Doomfire warlocks-insanely strong on small and medium unit scale and weak on bigger ones. If you like cav, you can get them on mid game with LLs without starting black arcs.
15.Scourgerunner chariot-MVP multiplayer unit that is musthave in every DElves match. Unfortunately, exclusive for it because of sieges that are not meant for cav and chariots.
16.Normal chariots - rampage trash.
17. Hydra-best holding power that Delves have with great regen and decent speed. To get more value than black guard from them as shield of your army you need to use breath attacks as often as possible.
18. Kharibdyss-super niche unit that i was dissapointed with. Useless even vs large units because of it's fragility. Also dinos and cav tends to ignore it. Guard is much better vs large unit spam.
19. Harpies-useless at their tier. You get them too late to be effective.
20. Black dragon- "cav" of the dark elves. Good killer of artillery and ranged units. Musthave to spam instead of hydras vs late high elves if they spam their dragons to protect shades from air strikes.
21.Medusa and shrine medusa-like doomfire warlocks, insanely strong range unit on small unit scale. Trash on ultra.
22.Reapers-nuff said.
My army of 15 shades Took out 10 dwarven armies super easily over 4 turns.
Nice comment, but do you recommend having shade heavy armies against high elves spamming ranged units? Alith Anar is dicking my malekith army ATM.
@@Akuryoutaisan21 shade heavy armies are really good if you have them fully upgraded and kitted.
On my last malus campaign i used hydras frontline+shades backline.
For mage fire is preferable for the sword buff and storm vs armour/head vs flesh aoe, but dark can work too(vs unarmoured it is even better than fire, bladestorm wrecks kills on par with wind of death).
Setup:
Lord
Mage
Witch for replenishment
2 Reapers for sieges and aggro
2-3 black dragons for cavalry role depending on your micro lvl
6 hydras
6-7 shades
It is autoresolve centered army cause it has enough melee "mass" to not kill your monster frontline(i use "better autoresolve" mode from workshop).
If you want more powerful army than cut all hydras and swap them with shades. With checkerboard formation cheese you will decimate much better in manual battles but any mediocre clash in autoresolve will kill your dragons like they are made from paper.
Also vs chaos, lizards and late game brettonia swap hydras with black guard.
@@Akuryoutaisan21 maybe get 2 chariots?
Very cheese heavy strats you've got, in difficulties below very hard,,most people don't bother with since random enemy unit buffs are stupid and cheese comps like 15 shades and 5 SE are just not fun. Also rampage only triggers below 20 percent health, in single player that should happen extremely rarely.
I really like your approach to explaining this stuff but I find it hard to understand what you're saying too often. It's like a slurring of words, I don't know. Automatic captions have troubles capturing what you're saying too. It's too bad because I liked the style of your presentation.
You OK big guy? Something keepin' ya down, buddy?
Yeah, no, Dark Riders are the worst cab, I swear
May-lay! Say it with me now... MAY-LAY!
I can't stress this enough... i LOVE these videos but the way you say Melee is infuriating 😅
For me a missile troop with less than 140 range is worthless to me. And artillery with less than 400 range is also worthless to me.
malekith with only 44 kills?? any other lord yes but malekith is easy 500-1k lord in each battle
Great video but its mel-lay not mee-lee. I normally wouldn't mind but you say it about 100 times.
mods for me is like cheating
I don't think it's a good idea to use mods in a guide. Otherwise, good video
