      I tried to replicate glitch out of boredom - I was able to do it thorugh running around while shooting and rotating the camera. I was also able to turn into some green and yellow colors, a deeper purple, cyan and orange. I have screenshots and a save state for Dolphin. ^^

      I think when you change the tiles so fast the game gets confused and uses 2 colors at the same time, purple being red and blue, deep yellow being yellow and green, cyan being green and blue, etc. Hence you can only swap between 2 colors cuz the game thinks the red tile is active but actually the blue as well. You jump on it and now its the green tile but actually the yellow as well. Maybe if you mess around with it enough, you could make it have all 4 colors at the same time, perhaps white? And then you jump on it and nothing happens.

    One of my favorite details from ShTH are the route names.
    For example, if you start off only doing dark missions, but then start doing hero missions at the last possible opportunity so that you still reach the pure hero ending. That route is titled "Miracle of Love". And it's just such a fitting name. There are many more route names that make sense like this. And it just shows how dedicated to details old Sonic Team was.

      The funny thing about that route in particular, it specifically means you start doing Hero missions at Cryptic Castle, helping Amy find Cream and Cheese. As was established in the final story of SA2, the way Amy acts reminds Shadow of Maria, and this route implies she's once again made him remember what his promise was: to protect humanity.

      And if you do Westopolis Dark, and then all Hero (so starting Hero missions from when you meet Rouge), the Route is called 'For Love's Sake'. Ships ahoy, fellas!

      Yeah, but there're a crazy number of different possible story paths, and the 100% speedrun (which involves getting every single story path) is 50 hours long.

    Here's a detail I found on the ps2 version. If you heal a gun soldier that was wielding a bowie knife, he will use the arm holding the knife to do his chest salute. What this ends up looking like is the gun soldier stabs himself through the chest with a big ass knife while saying "thank you". If you go behind him while he is still doing this animation, you can see the tip of the blade piercing through his back.

    5:28 Yeah, that's a cool intentional mechanic. There are even unused voice lines talking about it. If I remember correctly, Sonic's line goes: "If you don't want to fight someone that's bugging you, just trow this at them" Additionally, Black Doom explains that the Heal Units have a chemical component the suppress the urge to fight.

    Regarding heal units, the GUN soldiers are the only enemies in the game that will "remember" if you healed them. All other enemies will attack you again either if you wait and watch them for a while, or if you leave their render range and return.

    I tried doing the weaponless challenge a few months back and I can confirm that Lethal Highway's hero mission is possible with the glitch. I used one of the checkpoints before a long strech of road with the ship over it and killed myself when that section ended. It is really tedious and I don't remember how many lifes it took though.

      I was thinking, when you have Chaos Boost, you're invincible until it runs out. How much damage can you do by just standing in the tank and repeatedly jumping? It won't knock you out or anything and each jump should do SOME damage to the shield.
      You could also theoretically grab an Invincibility power-up near the start, from a roulette item capsule. If you can time it right ofc.

    I guess it's worth mentioning, that companions can do melee attack. While Sonic, Knuckles and Amy does exactly same 3 punches as Shadow - others have different animations. - Rouge uses her legs to kick enemies (with slightly better range?), Tails turns around and spin his tails in front, Espio (If i recall correctly) does karate chops. Vector and Omega have different melee attacks too. As for Maria, she does single slap, which deals no damage to enemies but still can break crates.
    And quite obvious, out of all allies only Sonic have homming attack, while others preform simple dash.

      Different ally characters also do different amounts of damage. I believe Knuckles's melee attacks do twice as much as Shadow's and Sonic's do half as much? This is memory from years ago though so I can't exactly remember if Sonic's numbers in particular are accurate.

      Maria's slap can also kick Shadow out of the Gun lift, if performed by a second character.

    The Heal Cannon also has the amazing property of bringing certain dead enemies back to life. Which you can abuse to constantly kill the same enemy over and over again to get an infinite amount of points for either dark or hero, cheesing A ranks.

      You only have so much Heal Cannon ammo, so you couldn't do this infinitely, but what can it bring back to life that isn't a GUN soldier?

    Another fun, weird thing: on missions where you can only do hero or dark objectives, you can press down on the D-pad (in the GC version, I assume it's the same for the PS2) to get rid of the obligatory companion and have Shadow say all the hints/comments during the level. I think that's neat :)

    Lots of interesting stuff I did not know about before.
    As for the final haunt dark gauge filling up, I think the reason it fills dark has to do with the destruction of order. The logic applies similarly with taking out flames with a melee weapon; your hero gauge fills up.
    I was going to ask if the Egg Breaker in Iron Jungle was more of a pain in the ass than the Mad Matrix Hero, but this video answered that, too.
    Here's a bonus one you might not know: if you are on a Black Arms Disk and grab the instant-Chaos Blast orb in Prison Island, it will not activate until you get off the Disk.

      For that last one, that applies to filling up the gauge in any way while on a vehicle. You can actually use this to skip that entire toxic waste river that the orb is on - get your Hero gauge up to near full, get on a disk and then kill the Black Arms there to fill it up. Ride onto the river, jump off and immediately activate Chaos Control. Shadow will just Chaos Control across the entire river. If you activate it before the river he'll stop at the platform that takes you to the third disk, so you need to be just at the very start, and you need to have the full gauge when you activate it.

    Thank you for being like the only RUclipsr to do literally anything in this game. Idk about you, but in my opinion, Shadow the Hedgehog is an underrated and especially overhated video game that more people should give a chance every once in a while. I get the criticisms, but it isn't exactly an awful game imo. Quality video, you deserve more subs. Keep up the good work and you'll have more followers in no time

      Yeah it feels awesome shooting enemies while going at breakneck speed, it has something other shooting games don't, I would actually like an FPS with Sonic/Shadow's speed.

      I agree, I wouldn’t call it a very good game, it’s tone and story can be laughable at times, some missions are bad, and the game’s multiplayer being awful are all valid criticisms. But the game has a lot of fun mechanics and level designs, there are more good missions than bad ones, the branching pathways are also cool (and allow you to skip a lot of the bad stuff) I just don’t understand why some people think the game is worse than 06 or Boom. I feel like it’s just an okay game with some funny moments.

    In levels that have a ring trail leading to a partner introduction, doing the light speed dash into the cutscene will continue the high pitched whirring noise that plays when you do the light speed dash until the cutscene ends

    A few things I know that may or may not be obscure(No idea):
    -If Shadow is currently in Chaos Control during a partner-cutscene, the voiceline will not be played(or at least it's not hearable), but the cutscene will remain active for as long as it was supposed to be(And the screen looks trippy because of the special effects and filter during CC). I have no idea how to even get into that state tho, because it only happened once to me on emulator and then never again. Normally, it seems to skip the cutscene when one is in CC.
    -If one has the barriers for the Final Haunt-dark mission active, the game claims that it is impossible to get to Black Doom and that one should backtrack to disable them. However, there is nothing stopping the player from just doing a spindash jump around them, so the game technically lies here. Oops.
    -It's actually possible to take damage during the boss defeat-cutscene/animation in the cryptic castle-bossfight through getting hit by the ghosts rising from the floor. I couldn't determine if this is able to kill Shadow, but it is interessting this is even possible.

    Another interesting thing you may not know is the Easter Egg is that the bosses Blue Falcon and Black Bull are the names of vehicles in F-Zero; used by Captain Falcon and Black Shadow respectively. Then again, maybe that's why they "misspelled" Blue Falcon; to avoid Nintendo's copyright lawyers.

    also I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed/cared that Spotify is missing so many good shadow tracks! Spotify also used to have the entire Sonic Rush soundtrack, but it was inexplicably removed one day and I still mourn over its loss :(

    A glitch I found playing with game shark cheats is that if you have infinite rings when you go the the level with the 400 ring mission, the starting cutscene doesn't play, it cuts straight to the results screen, but then displays no data and just loops the victory animation and music forever...

    One thing i discovered and cracks me up all the time is that when in Sky Troops, if you destroy an Eggman's Battle Ship while having Eggman on your side, Eggman will complain about it. I dont know, people probably know about this but its goddamn funny xD

      I love that they actually sometimes programmed in lines for the mission that doesn't belong to the current partner. Rouge essencially has a "What the hell is this?"-moment when one takes her to the dark mission-path in digital circuit.

    Here's one for ya: If playing Cosmic Fall on Expert Mode, when you reach the Computer Room, hit the checkpoint and then fall to your death, you'll respawn and Vector will do his introductory scene and join you. He won't be there when you hit the Goal Ring though. Don't know if this happens for any other Expert Mode levels at any point.

    Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but from what I understand, the Shadow Soundtrack on Spotify is the *2012 Anniversary* Release, which, alongside SA1, SA2 and Heroes, were Abridged "Best-Of" CDs to celebrate the occassion. It's the version that was on Itunes for the longest time, and I don't think they've ever bothered to update it.

    In regards to the soundtrack, they did this for several Sonic osts. SA1, SA2, Heroes, and Shadow each only had 30 songs and were missing a bunch of tracks. It wasn’t until 06 when they started releasing the full soundtrack for each game

    The environment destruction only filling the dark gauge is slightly frustrating for me because I've tried to work out a Shadow pacifist route and it isn't possible because of two roadblocks on Glyphic Canyon and Final Haunt, both levels that are on Black Arms property, that could be bypassed with Chaos Control if it was available.

      Chaos Control probably wouldn't help anyway, because Shadow can still kill enemies while he's using it. I'm assuming your roadblock in Glyphic Canyon is the cage with a spring inside that requires killing a Black Warrior, but if you Chaos Controlled past that you'd kill the Black Wings just past it. Even if you were able to cancel just before hitting them, I'm sure you'd kill the Black Warrior itself.

I'm currently going over the whole run in more detail because I might make a video about it, and remembered I could just get chaos control with the heal gun, and even without that, I found out just now that red fruit respawns and you can farm it for hero gauge. Chaos Control can be cancelled, somehow, I don't fully understand what the imput is, but it seems like you can only stop at certain waypoints. So yeah, no way to getting past that spring murder-free.

    Because of this video and the challenge video, I decided to see if the second player feature works on the GameCube version of the game. It does, but trying it made me discover something myself. When playing the story mode with a second player, Player 1 can change Player 2's character with the D-pad (along with the story alignment). Pressing right changes the character to a hero, pressing left is for dark. Pressing down set the path to neutral, and gets rid of Player 2. Funnily enough, Player 2 cannot change the story or path, but pressing down on the D-pad on their controller will remove them. They cannot be added back unless they are added back by Player 1 using the D-pad or pausing the game and choosing a path.
    An example of this is easy to do in Westopolis after you encounter both Sonic and Doom's Eye. Pressing right changes Player 2 to Sonic, left is Doom's Eye, and down is to deactivate Player 2. Although I was not able to replicate this, I believe I was able to change Player 2 from neutral to Doom's Eye using Player 2's controller. Also, when the D-pad is used to spawn in Player 2, the character appears at the top of the screen squished before stretching out and falling to the ground. Spamming the D-pad left then down, right then down, or left and right, causes the characters to spawn in squished before being replaced by the other character. If done fast enough, the second player's model will appear to float and change between two characters. Using Sonic and Doom's Eye as examples again, if you button presses as D-pad right, D-pad left repeatedly, the order of squished characters is Sonic, Doom's Eye repeatedly.
    Just thought I'd share this since it would be nice to add.

      Besides that Player 2 can disable themself(Which seems like a weird leftover from copying over the controller-programming of player 1), most of this is not exactly obscure info. It is simply how the CPU-partners work already.

    I'm pretty sure I remember that "health remains the same" thing also happening with the president's escape pod. I think I took advantage of that to beat the mission the first time.
    I also knew about the soundtrack thing because I bought the soundtrack on iTunes and was disappointed to find some of the songs missing. Particularly Lava Shelter and Final Haunt, those two are bangers.

    this is an example but in Gun fortress when you find rouge, collect a checkpoint, die and then teleport back to the beginning of the level with rouge and you will hear dialogue from her, I guess the devs didn't know where to place her after putting in the dialogue checks

    I knew five things at least, so I shared it with a friend.
    I did not know about the tank in Lethal Highway, crazy to think they'd have such an oversight.
    Makes you wonder if of other mission based targets have the same issue, like Eggman's blimp or the President's escape pod.

    theres a neat thing that I remember. there are some levels that requires you to kill Gun robots. I believe Westpolis AFTER the goal ring you have an extra GUN sentry that is green coloured. pay attention if its during the buildings skydiving (he will fly upwards) or on the last platform before the teleport to reset the level. If you don't managed to detect that one i remember another in prison island level, flying in the direction of your camera when you are riding the platform in the green water (one that goes forward and descending a bit if i remember). that one flies fast so pay attention (also colored green with gold top). you might have to pause the game when you start seeing them in order to check better the colors, because they pass by you flying a bit fast

      also another important note, they do not have a route cycle, so you basically see them one time and then they are gone until you restart the level. they count as an extra kill since it's 1 extra robot in the map and they seem to trigge rwhen you reach a specific point in the map, so when trying to hunt them try to play normally (no need to rush) without many stops. If i remember correctly those sentrys were green with a golden top and their model slighlt smaller than the original sentry

      I think they might give extra points? I'm not sure? There was gold robots in SA2 that gave you extra points, and the golden versions of the beam robots with the shields that you find in Final Fortress in heroes give you 10000 points. I figure these guys have a similar role, probably.

      Edit: yes the ones in Shadow give 1,000 points as well, but they're always optional. I don't know why they're called Golden Beetles though when they clearly aren't golden.

    I actually liked Shadow the Hedgehog (on GameCube) during my childhood, so much so I think I've gotten more than half of the Storylines. I guess it has something to do with how fun it can be to shoot almost effortlessly while going at high speed, just feels alright albeit different. Maybe if I would be able to aim while going fast, like say in an FPS/TPS sort of game, that'd be a treat for me, most FPSs always feel at the same, sluggish speed, I just need some "edge" to it, like say an uncapped acceleration. I should think of trying this game again.

    im no expert so im not big on the technical stuff. both cyberspace levels have quite a bit of unused content compared to the other levels which includes certain render flags for specific textures unique to those levels. i could be wrong, but if i were to guess, the weird tile colors are probably some of that leftover code you managed to trigger

    I've something to add, In Lost Impact if you plug in a 2nd controller you can control Maria and her jump surprisingly has a hitbox & she can use that hitbox on Shadow whilst he is in a turret to knock him out off it.

    I wonder how many of these weird issues only exist in the PS2 version. The GameCube & Xbox were much more powerful consoles, which Shadow was better optimized for. It certainly looked better too

      Pretty much. There is only one known unique upside to the PS2 version(Which already got ported over by the community) and only a few unique downsides to GC and Xbox.

    My cousin and I always assumed that the reason Eggman’s voice clips didn’t have the walkie talkie filter in Lava Shelter was because since Eggman was inside the base and thus not far away from Shadow, the sound quality was better. It’s a stretch I know lol.
    Also, the lack of the walkie-talkie filter only applies to lines specific to Lava Shelter. Lines that can also be heard in other levels (“Don’t go smashing up my robots!”, “Shadow, cut that out!”, etc) still have the filter

      tbh Lava Shelter kinda feels a little tacked-on compared to the other final levels. It's only really connected to Iron Jungle in terms of story progression - if Shadow enters it from either other point (Air Fleet or Space Gadget), he just randomly comes to the conclusion that he must be an android, and thus Eggman must die. You don't even SEE any Shadow Androids outside of Iron Jungle and Lava Shelter, so it really comes out of nowhere XD Still, it is a really cool level with a very fun gimmick, and they make a great use of the saucer (hidden behind the secret door) in it, too.
      I dunno if the devs were running out of time or what. It almost feels like they wanted to abort the Shadow Android plotline, but they'd already introduced it in Heroes so it just had to go somewhere.

Shadow can come to the conclusion that he’s an Android without ever talking to Eggman at all, and thus also determine that this guy he’s never spoken to must also pay with his life

    I just subbed after seeing your challenge video recommended. I grew up with this game on classic xbox, and I'm really really glad to find someone who enjoys the game as much as I do. I could be wrong, but the xbox versions of heroes and shadow look like they perform the best, at least when it comes to loading everything in time and in terms of draw distance.
    By the way, in final haunt, you can get to the upper levels of the hallways by spindash jumping against the destructable rocks. Another cool thing I found was in air fleet, where you're supposed to open the 5-key door to get the hover platform to grind on the electric rail. You can just barely spin dash jump, getting boosted from the guard rail, wall cling, wall run, jump off the wall, and hover in midair by pushing against the guard rail on the other side of the gap until it ends and you can land on the other side. Been holding in these discoveries for who knows how many years cuz this game doesn't have much of a fanbase. Even the speed run scene for this game is extremely disappointing, with the chaos control checkpoint glitch making runs really uninteresting.

      I have the Xbox version, but sadly only a 360. The backwards compatibility for Shadow is fine for the most part, but there are some issues, including crashes during certain cutscenes. Perhaps the worst is that if you try to skip the Last Story cutscenes the game will crash, so to replay that level you have to sit through the cutscenes in their entirety.
      I think other than that though, the only thing the Gamecube version seems to have over it is the elevators in The Doom and Lost Impact being faster. But again, that might just be a BC issue.

    5:51 another thing I thought was interesting was using the heal canon on GUN soldiers armed with combat knives. They strike the pose with their fist against their chest, which looks fine if they’re holding a firearm, but with the knife it looks like they’re oofing themselves.

    Which honestly makes it all the more strange when this mechanic should have been tied to the mission select/swap and not just tied to this one gun. Just have it coded to be that any level obstacles that involve taking out any specific enemies to continue just automatically triggers without having to kill said NPCs when you choose a mission from the menu. Or at least have it be a "Yes/No" option when the character that provides the mission shows up, then you can just have 2 "Team Ups" per level and saying "No" to both Hero and Dark options just has you stick to the neutral path.
    Also extra thing for this, maybe tie the Chaos Power bars for the gameplay style you do depending on what path you take, like "Do you use more Weaponry? Or do you go more with your natural abilities?" Or like maybe if you attack more, it fills your Chaos Blast, but if you're skilled and dodge more or pull off cool maneuvers, it fills your Chaos Control?

    On PS2 and Gamecube a second player can control non-Dark support characters (Eggman in Sky Troops still doesn't count). If performed in Lost Impact, he can use Maria to slap people. Now comes the fun part - if player 2 hits the Gun Lift, while Shadow sits inside, the thing will explode, knocking him out (like with the asteroids outside). I refuse to believe, that N.I.D.S. was the only reason why she was kept aboard the Ark XD

    It’s not exactly a fun fact, but I appreciate one nice detail in one of the game’s final stages.
    Lava Shelter is the only final stage where your mission choice does not effect your moral alignment or the actions of Shadow. If you take the hero mission with Omega, it’s just a mad dash to finally end Eggman for good. In the dark mission, you actually help Eggman activate his defense system so invading enemies can’t get to him. But it’s heavily implied that Shadow only does this so he can guarantee he’s the only one to kill Eggman off, nobody else. Ignoring the fact that that’s raw as hell, I find it interesting that no matter your choice you end up with practically the same result. There’s no possible scenario where Shadow does not plan to kill the doctor, it’s just inevitable.

    I _thiunk_ the idea of "Breaking objects in a level provides Dark score/meter" comes from the general idea of "Even if you're in someone else's home, it's kind of a asshole move to purposefully break stuff." Obviously the comparison doesn't quite work when the places you are in are clearly owned by defined antagonists... but it's a reason to give at least. tl;dr being a jerk is being a jerk, no matter how you slice it.
