In this video i show you the most important parts, how to replace the timing belt and the tensioner pulley on a 2006 Hyundai Accent with a 1,3l engine.

Great video. This does not appear to be a 4 hour job or more. I am at the Hyundai dealership right now and I was told it would be 4 hours or more.
Thanks for your nice words. If you don´t play around, you can do it in about 4 hours especially when you have practice in doing this. If you want to do it by yourself and mybe the first time, do it slower but be sure that everything is correct.

when you tighten the crankshaft toward the end ...... it takes more torque than the engine can freely handle without starting to turn under the pressure. .... On my ford, I just hit the ratchet end with a hammer to get that last Tightness. Also- Surprised you didnt replace the water pump & other belts.
For tightening the crankshaft there is a torque, but you need a tool you see in my video to hold the crankshaft pulley. This torque is for my Hyundai 180-200Nm. On your Ford i don´t know, sorry. It´s an important part, i hope your method will work. How did you open that bolt?
I replaced the v-belts with new ones, unfortunately you can´t see in the video. But the waterpump is the old one, you are right. I did so, because it was not really old and i hate cooling fluid on my hands. So i do this job on my car only, when it´s really necessary.

Hi, thank you so much for your nice words. That´s the reason why i do this: I want to share my knowledge and help people.
Greetings to your car! This is my second one and i like it, because it doesn´t make really big problems and it´s easy to repair.
To answer your questions:
1. The manufacturer recommends to replace the Timing Belt every 55.000 miles or 5-6 years, so you should do that soon. You need a Timing Belt Kit included the Timing Belt and the Tensioner Pulley. If you removed them, you should also replace the V-Belts, you have 3 of them. The waterpump is also a good idea to replace, it costs about 50$. You can save that money, but if it´s worn out later, you must repeat 3-4 hours of work. The Waterpump can leak or stick. These are the risks.
2. The Gas Filter should be replaced every 38.000 miles. The AC filter/Cabin Filter is not very important, it´s only for the air in the passenger cabin. You can replace it every year or every two years, or about 9300/18000 miles.

No, it´s a 1.3. If you need torques for a 1.6 engine, you could watch my videos which i made of a Kia Pride/Rio. That´s a 1.4 engine, but very similar to a 1.6.

Until camshaft sprocket makes 1 full revolution? And they should both land on the same timing spot?
Torque spec for crankshaft pulley bolt?
Hi! Rotate 2 times on the crankshaft, that´s 1 time on the camshaft. Please turn only at the crankshaft.
The timing marks should line up well on both pulleys.
Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt with 140-150Nm.

How many miles you got clocked? Been thinking of grabbing an accent lately seen very reliable and easy to fix.
Now i have about 167.000km (about 103.000mls) on the car.
I have the same thoughts. I think it´s an underrated car and i´m very satisfied with it.
This is my second Accent, the first i bought as new and had unfortunately an accident with total damage after 19 years and with 377.000km (234.000mls) on it.

great videos, thanks for your time!!! if improper alingment happen from the mechanic..can this cause long term rattling noise or poor high speed performance? cause after my mechanic changed the timing belt , the car is going at its worst. "Mechanic" said everything is ok, but now i will check it by my own. After timing belt change i have engine rattling noises, engine dont start always with the first time, speedometer needle when accelerating it looks like its vibrating. Its the same accent like yours
Thank you so much for your nice words. The correct alignement of the timing marks is very important and there is absolutely 0 tolerance. One or a half tooth of deviation can cause your problems.
So if you have problems since the timing belt was replaced, please check that again/by yourself. The rattling noise doesn´t sound good, i hope that no damage happened on your engine.

@M B You are right, in that case it´s the only way to fix that problem, you must do all the work again. Please don´t use the car until you couldn´t check the alignement of the timing.

I will 100% assume you used a torque wrench to properly finish putting all those bolts in.
Actually not. In the workshop where i learnt my profession, we didn´t have a small torque wrench. So i learnt to tighten screws by hand. Really important screws like on the Camshaft Pulley surely i do with the torque wrench. But for example the cover of Timing Belt is not so tragical and they are M6 screws. The other thing is, i think many of my watchers also doesn´t have a torque wrench, so i want to show that it´s possible without.
anybody know if the 1.3 procedure is the same as a 1.6 procedure??
The procedere is for me very similar on a 1.6 engine too. I did that job on a Kia Pride/Rio and made a video about it. That should be more helpful for you, when you have the 1.6 engine.

hi if the timing belt snapped and the timing marks are not aligned, whats the procedure to correct the timing marks? should I put a belt on, then rotate so the bottom gear is on the mark, take off the belt then move the top gear by wrench? Im about to start this job but yea the belt snapped(maybe the engine is still alive maybe not). the camshaft sensor was throwing a code so it must be off i guess. My timing belt broke on the highway. but I have to try before I junk the car, because I cant afford another used car right now.
Hi! That´s the worst case, that your timing belt snapped on the highway an the biggest damage already happened. Remove all the necessary parts and also the timing belt, if it´s still on it´s place. The safest method would be, if you move the crankshaft first to about 9 o´clock, or to 3/4 of the rotation, i hope you know what i mean. So the pistons should be all in in the same height. Then turn the camshaft until the timing marks line up on it. Now you can finish on the crankshaft until the timing marks line up too. Install a timing belt, adjust the tension and check the timing marks after 1-2 rotations. When you are finished, try to start the engine as soon as you can. I hope you are successful and your engine has no damage.

Which pulley do you mean? It´s necessary to remove them, otherwise you can´t remove the covers and can´t replace the timing belt.
Timing belt Hyundai eon
Sorry, but i´m not familiar with the Hyundai Eon. I´m sure there are similarities, but i don´t know the details.
somebody in another video said: You have to retard the timing marks ever so slightly because the tensioner will move the belt slightly when you release tension onto the belt. - Does this make sense? Should I go with my marks or does it need to be slightly off the marks???
I recommend to line up the timing marks correctly. Once i did this job on another car and the timing was wrong by a half tooth. The engine didn´t start.
Normally in most cases , the car will start if 1 tooth off,but will not run as good. May misfire, may be weak etc. .....but ok , gonna just keep it on the marks, that is if I can ever get the CS pulley bolt out. @@pannonicmechanic
If that happens, the timing is not correct and the engine doesn´t work correct. Once that mistake happened to me and the customer was not satisfied. The car needed much more fuel and had no acceleration, so i had to do the whole job again and my boss wasn´t happy.
In the case of the timing belt it´s better to be very very conscientious, a little mistake can be very expensive.
camshaft pulley have two mark right, 12 & 3 clocks right?
Yes, correct. To be more exactly, there are three marks. 12 and 3 o´clock and at 12o´clock on the spoke of the camshaft pulley. There is a hole on the pulley and an arrow/triangle on the cylinder-head.

but i need check crankshaft mark first right?
The safest method on the camshaft is, when the hole on the spoke is at 12 o´clock. Then the white marks on the top (12 o´clock) should line up and the second white should be at 3 o´clock.
You should bring the camshaft first in line up position, because the crankshaft makes two rotations, while the camshaft does only one. So if you line up the crankshaft first, maybe you must continue to turn the engine until the camshaft line up too.
That happened to me and you can see this in my video "Timing Belt long version" starting at 1:28.
The most important thing is, not to remove the Timing Belt until all Marks line up.
