  • Items covered in this video are:
    1. Removal of the water pump pulleys (power steering and ac)
    2. Removal of the upper lower timing belt covers
    3. Harmonic Balancer and crankshaft bolt
    4.Detailed description of replacement of the Cam and Crank seals
    5.Engine valve cover removal
    6. PCV valve removable
    7. All torque settings for each bolt
    It is suggested you check out my spark plug videos to learn how to remove the wire harness, each of the engine coils and the wire harness bracket
    This video is broken up into 3 parts because the job takes over 3 hours to do. This is a high detailed step by step video which covers all the parts of the timing belt system including part numbers and costs for each of the replacement parts shown in these videos. The car being serviced is a 2009 Hyundai Accent 4 Door gls 1.6L DOHC
    It is suggested you replace your timing belt and tensioner and idler every 90-100,00 klm or 60,000 miles. Anything over this you risk the timing belt breaking. If the timing belt breaks the engine will go out of time and the valves will hit the pistons destroying your engine. Engines cost $5000,00 to replace so if your not handy with working on your car I suggest you pay Hyundai Dealership to do this job. If your up to the task then here is the how-to. Enjoy!
    Disclaimer: Top dead center must be set correctly when removing and installing the timing belt. All bolts must be torqued to Hyundai spec. Failure to do this will result in engine damage. If you use my video on how to service your timing belt and something goes wrong I will not held responsible for any damages that may occur on your vehicle. If for any reason you have any doubt that you have the skills to perform this task take your car to a certified Hyundai dealership to have this job done and they will be glad to take a big bite out of your wallet.
    I think that covers it. LOL

    Gracias , muchas gracias.

    The holes that you saw on the harmonic balancer pulley are not for special tools (you mentioned this at about 12:30 in this video) -- they are drill holes made when the manufacturer removed material from the heavy side of the harmonic balancer pulley to balance it.
    You will see similar drilled holes on flywheels too. Also on pressure-plates on manual transmission vehicles. Basically any heavy cast round spinning object on an engine needs to be balanced -- and the drilled holes are the way it is commonly done. The more holes and the deeper the drilling, the more metal had to be removed to put it into balance. It's basically the opposite of what is done for balancing tires -- where they add weight to the light side. Instead, for spinning metal parts with significant mass, material is removed from the heavy side to put it into balance. You will see similar drilling on the counterweights on crankshafts too to get the crankshaft into balance.
    I hope this is helpful....

    10:58 .why does it matter of TDC is not set when the crankshaft pully comes off? The CS pulley can only go on one way & TDC can be set before or after removing the Pulley/

    When removing the Crankshaft bolt will this not make the engine turn counter clockwise?

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades
      @gereral1_jackofalltrades  5 лет назад +1

      may move a bit but nothing to harm the engine. Use an electric impact or air impact gun. I used an electric one in this video to remove and put the bolt back on. If it moves off the mark simply rotate it to the mark then remove the balancer. Kinda cold now to be doing this job where I live. Good luck.

    All of your videos are super helpful and have saved me a lot of money! Thank you! Can I put a new timing belt on without removing the water pump pulleys/belt?

    My belt broke .how dow i get back to tdc? Should i line the marks up? Thank you.

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades
      @gereral1_jackofalltrades  7 месяцев назад

      Yes cam has red dot as per this timing belt series. Line up cam and notch on bottom called crank sprocket. When you release the automatic tensioner the belt will move sprockets a bit. Be aware marks lined up. manual rotate the crank bolt 1 full revolution or cam sprocket using crank bolt. Then start engine after you put harmonic balancer back on.

    I am a little confused. If you're not supposed to turn the engine counter clockwise, how are you supposed to loosen the harmonic balancer bolt? If I try, won't that cause the engine to turn counterclockwise?

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades

      an impact will not move engine....

    • @dark4137
      @dark4137 8 лет назад +1

      If the belt is on you can turn the motor counter clock its not going to do any damage. Also if the sprocket moved and you need to re-time the motor you can turn it a few teeth you can turn it. The motor is not moving fast enough to bend a valve or damage a piston.

    • @dark4137
      @dark4137 8 лет назад

      With that being said, you dont want to rotate the opposite direction unless necessary

    • @mrc8155

      I put a flathead screwdriver through the harmonic balancer pulley to block it on a small notch on the engine block, it worked fine!

      @@mrc8155 how did u place the screw driver in I'm having that spinning problem and don't have a impact

    • @mrc8155
      @mrc8155 5 лет назад

      @@DK-zs6hm I shoved it through one of the 3 large holes of the harmonic balancer (the inner part of the pulley joining the bolt and the rest of the pulley). The tip of the screwdriver can then rest on the block (i used some sort of massive groove that was there) and when you unscrew the bolt, the HB will be stopped since the screwdriver blocks it. Make sure the screwdriver rests on the right side of one of the holes so it wont turn when unscrewing. I used a long Breaker bar and it can help to be 2 persons, one holding the screwdriver and one to break it free. Hope this helps!

    Dangit. I'm as far as the crankshaft pulley and I'm worried about turning it the wrong direction while I'm trying to get it off (is it a problem at this point? I don't have the timing belt cover off yet). Also, no one anywhere says anything about the AC belt, I'm assuming this is a no-brainer?

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades

      Sarah Steever This engine you must rotate clockwise. If you are second guessing yourself better to get a professional mechanic to perform this service. Its all played out step by step in these videos

      Got it. Ended up borrowing an air wrench and a compressor to get the pulley bolt off, but she's running.

    Why give so many details on the camshaft seal if your not gonna show how to correctly remove it. Especially if your doing all the preventative maintenance and have the seals wouldn’t you want to replace them?

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades
      @gereral1_jackofalltrades  5 лет назад

      If its not leaking why would I? Same as water pump.

    • @danielhunt3392
      @danielhunt3392 5 лет назад

      gereral1 why give info on it at that point. It’s preventative maintenance while you have everything else apart.

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades

      In Richmond, va be home Friday. I'll check the repair manual. In the past intake and exhaust cams are connected by a timing chain. On the ends are marks. Tdc set cylinder 1 on tdc then line up the dots. I'll look it up so check back Friday.

      I want to keep this site separate from my you tube channel. I,ve seen some great sites go down here because of posting material and stuff. Example autotechviewpoint had millions of hits and great automotive videos. Recording the videos is one thing. Taking material off some one else can get you in trouble ;)

    Why are u so adamant about not using a seal puller? Ive used them in the past and theyve worked fine and didnt damage anything

    • @gereral1_jackofalltrades
      @gereral1_jackofalltrades  8 лет назад

      Have to be careful as not to damage the aluminum as long as you know how to use it correctly. They sell seal puller kits to evenly remove and install them without damaging the aluminum.
