for an extra textured look, wad up an old terry cloth towel and just tap it on the stone when it's pretty dry...It'll lift some of the paint off and leave a cool texture...also, with your green, use a natural sponge and just tap it with a very small amount of the green paint and it works great to simulate a mossy look!! can't wait to see all this finished! Good Job Nikki!
I'll give you a tip. If you use acetone in a spray bottle instead of spray paint, you can stop it eating the foam by spraying some water on it. The other way to give the same effect, spray some water on the foam and hit it with a heat gun ... no need for spray paint or acetone. Lots of ways to give you that same look. Keep up the great work.
1:52 I see you're using two different Foams... White and Pink... Which one is BEST and why is there two different Foams... or does it make a difference? Thank YOU for sharing this video.
You can accomplish the same thing using an industrial heat gun. I have to say, you have just about mastered the art of stone masonry. I could only find a few coursing mistakes. Well done for sure!
Which tool(s) do you ude for grinding and shaping the foam surface? I have been using a regular Electric drill to shape and sort of grind the surface of the raw white styrofoam (the kind that consist of small “balls”) but it takes a really long time. Would love a good tip for other tools! 🔫
I wish I had the space to do this. But I do small models for my other hobbies. Can I give you a technique I use. A bag of rocks, mashed into the foam gives you great texture without spending money on spray paint AND you have almost complete control over how much or little texture is pressed into the facade.
im here for that same exact reason...trying to do cool terrain for a board game , but the paints i got ate away 12 hours of work...i should had researched this ....
For future viewers use any latex on bare foam. Don't use oil or epoxy or enamel, they contain solvents (usually like acetone) that will break the foam down almost immediately. You can however paint a primer coat thoroughly then use those paints but be careful not to miss any spots.
WOW!!!
EXCELLENT Job...

Very nice work! Lots of fun and satisfaction doing things like this. Wondering if you've ever thought of using a textured roller?
Awesome paint job!
+Dan ABA Indeed!

What tool did you use to make the stone look.

That's an awesome idea.
How many spray paints bottle did you use?
Do you use flat or eggshell latex paint to paint the foam?
What type of paint won't eat away the foam?
