  • In three days we travel 700 miles hitting everything from Reward Mine to Alabama Hills. Eventually we make the climb to visit Cerro Gordo Ghost Town before taking a trail to the historic Saline Valley Salt Tram.
Using 1.3 million feet of wood, 650 tons of hardware, and over 50 miles of cable this structure built in 1911 was the biggest and most complex tramway ever built in the world at that time. We check out the history of the area before descending back down to a secluded spot near Lone Pine for our last night before heading back.

I've actually ridden a bicycle up to Cerro Gordo, over to the Salt Tram and then down the road that ends up in Swansea (really steep and rough). Tried to make that cabin to sleep over night but that climb up that hill where your friend overheated his brakes was a killer getting a bike up. After riding in the dark for several hours I finally had to stop and camp in the open. That too was a chore to find a spot where the sage brush wasn't so thick. Sparser spots were usually where a canyon came up from the Saline Valley side that were windy and really cold. All my water froze solid during the night except for a bottle I kept inside my sleeping bag. The sun was sure welcome the next day.

There was a vintage Land Rover or Jeep on top of the mountain, was hoping you might have gotten a shot of it or a story from the driver?

Yeah, it was a pretty awesome setup! It was just a local older couple out for a midday drive.

That's the Swansea Salt Tram. You should have taken the Swansea Cerro Gordo trail direct to the salt tram and cabin. ruclips.net/video/o-fhwxmjD3s/видео.html

How wood supported 13 Mike's of steel cable plus a load I'll never know.

Really hard to imagine! Hundreds of carts that averaged 1 ton per load.

What the hell is wrong with people who feel the to spray paint and tear up anything. That is the reason so many please end up being restricted or completely closed up.

Half of my day job involves me cleaning graffiti from my local city and it almost always coincides with drunk teens..... Actions of a few ruining the experience for the many
